Hmm might be a bit early for a festive thread title but thought we could get in the mood.

None of that tasteful two colour decoration scheme in my tent - oh no. The gawdier the better.

morn sazz.. yawn..

your night sounded lovely and am so glad dd1 enjoyed her birthday.. hope dd2 is on the mend too.. ps.. not the right thread but read hot mamas.. woo hoo.. ..

miamla.. massive hugs.. hate we dh's get all self righteous.. hope it sorts itself out today and your weekend gets happier..

steaky... unfotuntaely no advice here either.. i have friends in similar situations where their careers have taken off after dcs.. some have just gone for it as they know that at the end of the day the family will benefit more in the long run and others who decided to wait as didn't want to leave their dcs.. everyone is different and you have to find the right choice for you and dd and what will make you both happy...

shocking night here.. dd2 slept thru .. dd1 kept having funny dreams and coiming into me where i duly got out of bed took her back to her room and stayed till she calmed down.. not a problem once but 3 times arghhh.. dh at poker last night so was good for nothing ..

enjoy your pilates ts.. it will fill you with energy ...

pertelote · 21/11/2009 07:50

Good morning [bleary]. Coffee's on.

for Oops and Miamla. Hope you are both ok this morning and that Miamla's DP has apologised (don't hold out much hope for Oop's MW unless Dizzy and Cyteen have actually paid her a visit...)

Steaky congrats on the offer. Very nice to hear even if you decide you don't want it. I like Sazzles' idea of asking if there's anything else they could consider you for.

steaknife · 21/11/2009 07:57

Morning Sazz, Loti

DD decorating herself and the floor with porridge. Tis a wonderful hair preparation doncha know.

I didn't get anything very prodcutive done last night as I was worrying about this job thing.
I've decided I'll go up and talk to them and see if they can be flexible about work location. They have an office in Bristol so might be able to negotiate on location as Bristol is much more attractive to me.

If I could wave a wand and have my perfect life it would be working PT in my old career and working a couple of days on crafty business and then spending the rest of the week with Izzy.
Location wise, I might be okay staying where we are - it is wonderful to be able to go to the beach on a whim.
Or perhaps Bristol for a bit of city but not too city vibe.

I am not sure I really WANT to live in London - it makes me tired just thinking about it. [sigh]

Right one day ladies I will have a smooth, stress free life and will have nothing but wonderful comments to make on your posts. But until then please bear with the me me meness of my life.

DD now knocking herself out with her bowl, tis my cue ....

x post Loti Sorry you had a bad night.

Passed a parenting milestone last night that probably won't make much sense to anyone else... ever since DD was born I've been reading through my bookcase of children's books during bedtime/night-time feeds... just finished the last one (yes I still own all my old books and buy new (to me, but secondhand) ones too). So do I start again at 'A', wean DD or hit Amazon?!! Disclaimer: I do actually read grown-up books the rest of the time (on the tube etc) but in the middle of the night I need maximum comfort and minimum brain-stretching...

pertelote · 21/11/2009 08:04

x post Steaky (must type faster!) Sounds like a good plan. Please don't worry about meness of posts, just hope our collective sympathy is sometimes of help...

Morning all

Two whingy kids on offer here any takers?

Pert buy more! I'm sure you have but just in case you haven't, read The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge, it's still one of my fave reads

dizzydixies · 21/11/2009 09:04

Pert thats lovely - I read the chronicles of Narnia over again going in and out of work in Glasgow on the train, I still remember everyone looking at me going and yet they're probably still my favourites

sazz good luck with the party today, hope DD2 enjoys it and you're not too stressed

steaky can't speak on behalf of ataraxis etc but I know Poppy only works (or is supposed to work) 3 days a week. I don't know how long a day that is for the girls in the nursery though but I do know she's much happier for working part time - you could maybe speak to her re the pros and cons of going from full to part time etc etc - sorry its such a difficult decision for you

lwfh I'm the same as you, as much as I love my kids I need to work for th sake of my sanity although part time suits me fine AND I could do with it not being the sodding job I have!! how is the cockroach situation btw?

Queenie hope DP wasn't too late home

miamla wishing you a harmonised weekend (crossed fingers)

TS how is the hand?

morning all else - sorry if I've missed anyone

steaknife · 21/11/2009 09:36

oh pants pants pants.

Just got a letter from the phone co. saying the direct debit had bounced. Even though I checked my acc. on Monday and it said it was paid. So checked bank acc. they had sent a message to say it had bounced but on Monday evening. And of course they will charge me £30 to go out on 21st December. Grrrrrrrrrrrreat.

And I just had DD asleep on me and was trying to get her onto the sofa - I know she should nap in her cot - and she woke up, has forgotten she is tired and is playing with the dratted French singing book. [sigh]

hotterpotter · 21/11/2009 09:44

OK I've changed my mind, DS has just learnt to say Makka Pakka (although it sounds more like back packer) and he is too cute to give away . DD on the other hand... I think she has a touch of the Bridezillas

Steaky . I hope you can sort out something. Good luck talking to the job peeps

Dizzy I never read those, I guess you would recommend!

dizzydixies · 21/11/2009 11:12

ROFL - hots you need to sit her down and tell her that the big day is over and you know its an anti climax after all the preparation and excitement but now its time to concentrate on the marriage not the ceremony itself - harsh but fair and may save her from the heartache of divorce in the future

love love loved the cartoon lion, witch and wardrobe as a child, so much so I wore out the recorded from tv tape we had of it - I still love the books

steaky I fecking hate bank charges - bastards sorry I can't muster anything more symphatic, they just rile me - feckers - hoping that my contributing anger/insults towards the establishment help in some way

pf if you're lurking was lovely to see your photos on FB and you'll be pleased to hear we still hand out the infamous pf stares

girls - when do we have to post the secret santa or have I missed that? sorry if I have

cyteen · 21/11/2009 11:21

hotter The Little White Horse is fantastic, isn't it? A whole other old-fashioned world opened up to me through that book, I was fascinated by the idea of keeping butter and cream cool in the wall of a well and spent much time wondering about words like heliotrope, junket and backboard.

pertelote what a brilliant habit to be in. There is no shame in reading kids' books, it's a rare skill to be able to condense story and meaning into such a small clear space so when you get a good one you're reading a real example of literary art. My favourite childhood book was (and remains) The Farthest Away Mountain, by Lynne Reid Banks. Read for its feisty heroine, sad gargoyles, surreal adventures and sly humour

Have nothing other than for Mr Qod and for Mr Miamla. Some ideas need bucking up, methinks!

steak there's not much I can add to what the others have said re. job...fantastic for you to be headhunted and certainly a great opportunity, but so much to consider. Obviously I can only tell you my gut feeling were I to be placed in such a situation (unlikely), but I don't think I'd be able to take it. London is exhausting - if you remember, we considered moving back down to be near friends and family when J was tiny and what convinced us otherwise was the thought of all that grimy, weary travelling to get anywhere, DP slogging home knowing that J was already in bed, having to drop J in childcare before breakfast so I could get to work on time...I couldn't face the downgrade in our quality of life.

J is in childcare three 8.5hr days a week and that is as much as he or I can handle. I think (and do bear in mind this is JMO) you would be ground down as a single mum working FT in London, especially since they want you to start straight away so you'd have to make a rushed move with all the stress that entails.

Having said that, I do know FT WOHMs in London for whom it works. There's no one size to fit all.

Grey rainy morning here [sigh] DP has spent 2 hours on the phone to BT getting his internet access sorted out. When DS wakes up, there's cleaning and a big food shop on the horizon. The glamour never starts stops!

TwilightSurfer · 21/11/2009 11:54

My children slept through the night but woke at 6am. It's SATURDAY! DH is still sleeping.

Dizzy the hand is ...it has good days and bad days. I've not been to the hand specialist yet but my chiropractor checked out the joints and such. Until I get to the specialist I'm going to use some crazy wives-tale ways to draw "the impurity" out. I'd really love for this to work because having my hand cut open to remove the blasted bit doesn't really sit well with me nerves.

As for the Secret Santa, I found my little gift last Thursday at my favorite little boutique. This morning I was just pondering how to pretty it up for maximum present pleasure. I even had a funny little poem going in my head to put on the card. (Note: poem may not arrive with present as it's a bit corny.) I will be going to the post office today to get packaging for it and another gift and stamps stamps stamps for my massive Christmas card mailing. 144 cards to address this weekend and next week. I do love all my friends and family!!!!!!

Miamla I was very shocked last night to hear your DP acting like a toddler. Surely he's realized his mistake and has offered amends.

everyone else. I have to move on in order to be ready to leave in a little while. I do so love my ME TIME!

miamla · 21/11/2009 12:56

oooh who else is hoping that TS is their secret santa... a little gift from a favourite boutique sounds amazing!

disclaimer: i'm absolutely confident that whoever I've got will send something equally amazing and it really doesn't matter if its not from a little american boutique!

hmm, think i should have probably stopped digging my hole now!

thanks all for your kind comments and . Due to caffeine drunk on the way home to try and stay focused, i couldn't switch off last night so figured i may as well start sorting out the things i didn't sort during the day. DP came in and told me to stop and to go to bed. I then collapsed in a crumpled heap of tears and exhaustion. He hasn't apologised but he was v sweet to me last night

alittlebitshy · 21/11/2009 14:29

miamla [anhry] at dp. this is happening with him too often for my liking. grrrrrrrr.

pert fab fab fab!! i say buy more. Also, come round to mine and see if i have any you want to read (i too have all my childrens books - plus you may like some of dd's)!!!

qod any new on sobbing neighbour? is she alone or does she have dh/children? V sweet of you to consider going round

ts la la la i can't hear yopu. i was thinking about xmas cards last night. not sure how many on our list (hang one, will check spread sheet) but eek.

alittlebitshy · 21/11/2009 14:31

wish i hadn't looked. there seem to be 245 on list so far [meep].

PoinsettiaBouquets · 21/11/2009 14:34

Sazz Well done for fitting into the 12! Now, I wonder when mine turn up on Monday whether I will be honest if the 12 is too small.

Steaky Ooh tough one about the job. Read this article last month and thought of you. Maybe a new job in a city would be a great opportunity to find yourself a similar situation. Maybe they know another lady who could jobshare it with you. Could you bunk up in someone's spare room to begin with? There is a lot to be said for the quiet life in Exmouth but working in a city could really help you move on and really shine in your own estimation. Don't forget things will all be different one day anyway, you might get to do it all over again with some new siblings for Izzy. I know that would seem inequitous that she missed out but she will get other benefits that they might not - it all evens out in the end.

QoD I do feel sorry for your DP, sounds like he's stuck in that 'indispensable' thing where you think the whole company will crash if you don't finish everything. Fear of letting people down can be quite paralysing. Sadly (or not) nobody is that important to a company, the work would get done, maybe not as well but the world would still keep turning.

alittlebitshy · 21/11/2009 14:35

oh yes i meant to say ;) at sazzles for the size 12!!!! well done you. greeat work!!!

steaknife · 21/11/2009 14:36

My christmas card in on my profile, I embroidered a little tree and now need to sort out getting it printed.

That or rummage around finding all the unused ones from previous years.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 21/11/2009 14:46

Well I just hosted the first bi-annual NCT Branch Brunch and it was pretty successful. We more than covered our costs, hooked up some guys who want to start a Dads' Group, got 2 ladies who want to join the committee and had much bacon and coffee without being rushed off our feet. Mission accomplished. I need to write up a Branch Brunch instruction manual now so that I don't become Mrs Indispensable (see post below).

We are moving home tomorrow yay! Kitchen is nowhere near ready but we have running water, worktops, base units and might have a hob and fridge by then. DH is making subsersive grumblings about there being too much kitchen and not enough empty space. This is an optical illusion and he is just pining for the brief moment when the laminate went down and it was totally empty (this happens every time we refloor a room.) He looked v stubborn when I told him about the 6' high bookcase that needs transporting from my folks' to the kitchen. Honestly he has no imagination and should just shut up and trust me, I am ALWAYS RIGHT about interior design!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 21/11/2009 15:47

OMG Kurt just took his first unassisted steps! About bl**dy time, and his 6th tooth is visible too. He was so fascinated at the sight of his auntie playing with a laminator he actually walked a few inches to reach her.

And Charlie Brooker's doing a MN webchat soon! My DH hearts him.

hotterpotter · 21/11/2009 16:11

Yay for Kurt, that's great . Is he the last one or are there still one or two non-walking babes left?

As for Charlie Brooker, DH and I both heart him, and honestly I would do more than heart him given the opportunity . Sadly I will be having a driving lesson so will not be able to offer myself to him live online . Judging by the thread there won't be a shortage of offers for him though...
