Hmm might be a bit early for a festive thread title but thought we could get in the mood.

None of that tasteful two colour decoration scheme in my tent - oh no. The gawdier the better.

Congratulations hp!!! That's fantastic news!

Sorry to hear your DSis can't support you and be happy that you're happy QOD. My DSis's DH is the loveliest guy in the world and is very happy to do everything he's told to and does more than the lion's share of everything. My Mum thinks he is the bee's knees and often says that he is exactly what a mother wants her Son IL to be as he makes life so easy for her daughter. My DH does a fair bit but we are more equal and sometimes I do go with his view, sometimes he goes with mine. Thankfully though my Mum thinks DH is the bee's knees too as a person and understands how happy he makes me and how right he is for me.. It's all horses for courses. Different relationships work for different people and you're lucky to have found one that works for you. . (Hope he comes home with a bottle of bubbly, tons of flowers and smile on his face tonight though ).

QueenofDreams · 04/12/2009 15:04

hehe poppy that's exactly what I'm hoping too.
I'm just glad we don't live near my family. DP is very logic/science/numbers. Very rigid in his thinking. Very anti-religion. My family are on the 'crazy' side of the religious spectrum unfortunately, so DP doesn't really understand that or click with them at all. Unfortunately, this means my family are down on him for 'dismissing' their religious views. They're totally incompatible. BUT as you say, our relationship works for us, we're having a rough time at the moment, but we'll get through it. And really, DP isn't far wrong when he says my family are nutters. They really are.

poppysocks · 04/12/2009 15:27

LOL at the family nutters qod. As much as it's upsetting for your family not to see the things you love in your DP, the fact that you can rationalise their differences speaks volumes.

Just popped back to add a sympathetic [meep] to your electrics bill dizzy. Grrr.

Paddy walks into a bar in Dublin, orders three pints of Guinness and sits in the corner of the room, drinking a sip out of each pint in turn. When he had finished all three, he went back to the bar and ordered three more.
?
The barman says, "You know a pint goes flat soon after I pull it ... your pint would taste better if you bought one at a time."
?
Paddy replies, "Well now, I have two brodders, one is in America and de odder in Australia and here I am in Dublin . When we all left home, we promised dat we'd drink dis way to remember de days we all drank togedder."
?
The barman admits that this is a nice custom and says no more.
?
Paddy becomes a regular customer and always drinks the same way ... ordering three pints and drinking a sip out of each in turn until they are finished. One day, he comes in and orders just two pints. All the other regulars in the bar notice and fall silent.
?
When he goes back to the bar for the second round, the barman says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief but I wanted to offer my condolences on your sad loss."
?
Paddy looks confused for a moment, then the penny drops and he starts to laugh, "Oh no," he says, "Bejesus, everyone is fine! Tis me ... I've quit drinki

QueenofDreams · 04/12/2009 16:22

Sorry I thought it would be fun to share that one

We're going to go up to MIL's in a bit. Sorry for bringing the thread down ladies. And thanks for listening

alittlebitshy · 04/12/2009 17:01

qod i like that joke. tee hee. also have a good night in with dp tomorrow

yay hots did you drive to collect dd? or not seeing as driving in the dark the first time after a passed test is a sure fire way to put you off? (or would that be me- luckily i passed in an august so it was light v late )

QueenofDreams · 04/12/2009 17:35

Thanks ALBS. DP's boss is Irish, and his brother sends round joke emails to all the staff every day. So DP forwarded that one to me
I am very sure that DP and I will have a lovely evening in tomorrow.

LentilsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 04/12/2009 17:38

to the joke.

A very happy birthday QOD - if my il's got to decide dh's view of me, I'd have been shown the door long ago.

And hots, you star -

LentilsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 04/12/2009 19:33

DD1 is being nice to me.
I'm quite scared tbh ...

SazzlesOnASled · 04/12/2009 19:33

Just running through on my way out to the pub....hurrah!

Many, many congrats Hots, well done you

Hope you have a lovely evening QoD

You too Dizz

pertelote · 04/12/2009 20:13

Have fun Sazz!

Woohoo Hots! Clever clever you. (= DD's comment on every car we see... i.e. constant refrain whenever outside)

Happy Birthday QoD! Have a lovely evening.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 04/12/2009 20:59

Nice one Hots, freeedoooom ahoy!

QoD Shall we chalk him up as an honorary Asparagus Syndromer then? You'd probably find it a lot easier to cope if you think of him that way. I always thought my mum was bit crazy and over-emotional but now realise that if my dad is, as we suspect, borderline Aspergers, then actually yes, she must find it very hard herself sometimes. Because I grew up with him and am not married to him, I didn't notice this LOL. It's second nature to me not to look for love in traditional ways, it's there in the unthinking loyalty and practical stuff. But my folks have been happily married for 41 years so take heart, you've just got to think laterally.

hotterpotter · 04/12/2009 21:00

Evening all

Just getting drunk on champagne and looking at cars on the internet, but unfortunately my paltry 2 grand budget will not go far. So far no sign of parents/grandma coughing up for one

PoinsettiaBouquets · 04/12/2009 21:00

Happy birthday too btw. Big pewter tankard full of quaffing ale for you coming up.

miamla · 04/12/2009 21:00

yay!!!!!!! well done hots!!!!!!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 04/12/2009 21:03

Hots I am deffo going for an old Toyota Previa/Estima/Lucida when my car conks out. They go for £1500-1800 round here on Ebay.

QueenofDreams · 04/12/2009 21:14

pb I don't know if he is. Just some of his behaviour/mindsets do make me wonder sometimes. maybe he's a borderline case. But I'm not exactly an expert on these things by any stretch of the imagination
I don't really have a problem with the way his mind works. I love him for who he is. I just wish he could moderate his mannerisms a bit when with my family. I'm not sure if he is actually capable of this though.
I guess maybe I wonder because it would help things with my family if I could say for definite 'he can't help it, cut him some slack!'
Hope everyone has a good weekend. DP has apparently bought some nosh for our night in tomorrow and MIL is babysitting FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT. Mini-SIL will be going nuts with excitement no doubt. She made me a birthday card and wrote my name in it. Was most impressed

hotterpotter · 04/12/2009 21:22

ooh Queenie a whole night DC-free we have not had one of those since before DD was born and she is 4 Hope you have fun

Buckets I am not sure I would be brave enough to buy a car off ebay, I know nothing and would prob end up with a pile of shite. Although the dealer prices are scary... I need a car that is going to be strong enough to come and visit you all

QueenofDreams · 04/12/2009 21:29

hots my dad is as ignorant as anyone, and he regularly buys cars off ebay. The only thing is he buys ones that cost £300 and then wonders why they cost a fortune in repairs. Although the latest one he bought my mum seems to be working well actually.
Really looking forward to tomorrow night now. Don't know what we're eating although I do know we have cheese and port for afters. YUM
S is in bed. DP has got home a few minutes ago. So now I am actually going.
See ya later.

hotterpotter · 04/12/2009 22:51

Well Queenie the word that worries me there is regularly because I really want to buy only one and keep it for a while

So, you car-driving girls, am I being too picky holding out for a 4/5-door, or is a 2/3-door perfectly manageable?

Am pissed btw, DH only managed half a glass of champers leaving me to drink the rest , plus I have had a bit of red too so it is very nearly bed time...

TwilightSurfer · 04/12/2009 23:16

Hi. I've let two full days disappear without being involved here. I'm sorry. Pardon my absence and except my comments on FB in return.

Sadly I only popped on to see if all were well, VG's mother had gotten a room, and find out if my Secret Santa recipient had received my gift. I shall not admit if the last item happened but glad to hear my other two points are both positive!!

Night

SazzlesOnASled · 04/12/2009 23:27

Back now

QoD - with a DH with Asparagus syndrome i can confirm they are lovely

hotterpotter · 05/12/2009 07:40

morning all

Hope you had a good birthday evening in the end queenie

oopsandbabyJesusinacoconut · 05/12/2009 08:06

Morning Hots

DD woke at 5 but she yelled for 10 minswe came to an agreement and she went back to sleep until 6.15 when DH moved to the spare room and DD fed and tore around the bed like a loon until 15 mins ago when I let her loose on the world. Now she is demanding 'cake' in a very loud voice. I never should have let her help bake, it's her favorite word!

LentilsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 05/12/2009 10:05

Morning all.

Queenie there is an aspergers dp thread. I saw it in active convos a while back. It might be helpful.

Apparently I am a meanie peanie.
