ruby that sounds awful - screaming baby!

William is still not properly feeding but I'm glad he's getting food in. I don't think it's related to any pain as he's just turning his nose up or sucks for a second then pulls off to coo at me and ignores the boob... I've been checking his temperature religiously to make sure he's not ill. I was going to pop to docs today but we've got a load of snow so don't fancy the walk (our council don't grit the pavements and it can be quite dangerous!) William seems generally well though.

fidelma hope the move goes well.

Hi to everyone else!

fluffycats · 06/01/2010 15:10

Had weigh in yesterday and Ella has put on weight, she's still off the chart but is following the curve, just under it! It was quite good as the clinic was pretty busy so HV wasn't that interested. Although she did say "you'll start weaning in a few weeks so that'll change things anyway". I must admit I hadn't even thought about weaning yet, is anyone else going to start at 4 months?? I remember seeing someone mention it on here a few pages back, and followed a link to a debate about weaning at 10 weeks!

Hope no one is too snowed in, we have a little bit here but never seem to get that much, its a bit of a pain though as its stopping me visiting friends and family and vice a versa.

rubyslippers · 06/01/2010 15:58

great news that Ella has gained weight!

WRT weaning advice is to wait until they are 6 months. Milk is more calorfic and filling than baby rice and purees anyway, so am not sure how it can help with weight gain

i will wait until the last minute to wean Ruby (mainly because i am very lazy) but also to avoid allergies etc. DS has exzema and some allergies (which he did grow out of), and i also have bowel problems

iggly - ruby does the pulling off the boob and cooing
devils - do you think Charlie is teething as well?

i have given up trying to get Ruby to bed at 7 ish ... she still cluster feeds so bedtime is still 9/9.30 pm

loads of snow here - DH set out for work and then was back an hour later after getting nowhere

Igglybuff · 06/01/2010 17:21

ruby - DS seems to be getting worse! Before he'd pull off, coo then come back. Now it's one suck, coo and bash me with his arm and refuse to go back on again!

devilsadvocaat · 06/01/2010 18:44

yes iggly charlie does the puling off ting. try winding when this happens.

ruby - he is so drbbly and it did cross my mind but i keep dismissing it as ds1 didn't get teeth til nearly 11 months. ruby, have seen ur thread re feeding. it is sooo hard. ds1 was exactly like ruby. in the end i caved and started giving a bot of ff before bedtime to stop the cluster feeding. tbh it did work and made me a lot happier. i bfed him til 8mo with just the one bot each night. i'm not saying this is what you should do but just that it's ok if you are thinking about it. i really want to make it 6mo exbf this time, but honestly feeding ds2 is easier than ds1. also please know that the daytime napping and other behaviours you describe in your thread sounds fairly typical. i think ruby is a few weeks younger than c and i have noticed a big difference in him from before xmas to now. maybe just try another few weeks and see how you're getting on then

HumphreysCorner · 06/01/2010 20:23

Hello all, total failure at keeping up

fidelma-I too loved your festive story, how old is DD1 as dreading my DD1 not believing any more.

ruby-hope you get some sleep again.

Matthew had his 8 week jabs and now at nearly 15 weeks he hasn't been called for any more.

Snow not too bad here. New Year diet going badly. Big wave to everyone else.

I spent the afternoon at the cottage with the children as it is very close to both schools.DH picked us up at 6.30pm and brought us back up the hill as he can do the school runs tomorrow. My car will go in the snow ice but DH is truly stuck until it is all over.

I cooked a full roast dinner at the cottage I must be mad. (I am mad)I wanted it to feel homely.Actually it was a good excuse to see if everything was working down there. The children loved it and wanted to stay the night.I did not want to have to wash all the linen that we would of used for one night,we have enough washing as it is.

I managed to buy ski mittens for the children today.Mittens are so much warmer than gloves.(as my mother reminded me)We are now all kitted out.It is like a milatry opperation getting everyone dressed, and a full time job looking after/drying it all.

HC DD1 will be 10 in March. She believed by the skin of her teeth last year. She asked alot if he was real and I said that he was.I wouldn't buy them all those presentsHowever there was no way that I was going to get away with it this year.It was a complete joy having her on our side though. She played along and wound the others up about it,fun, fun ,fun.

Connor had me awake 18 times last nightI think I will try and sleep in a separate room tonight.(wish I had ear plugs!!!!as if)

Water running and oil tank filled up.So I can stay at home.DS1 may miss some nursery if I don't have a car.Thats not the end of the world although I would like -need-- a few quiet hours in the afternoon.

HappyTangerine · 07/01/2010 06:06

Morning. Am in teething/growth spurt/cluster feeding hell. Joseph slpt a lot yesterday, only awake for 1.5hrs at a time to feed and have a little play. Then evening was awful. He was inconsolable last night, partly trapped wind but the only thing that really helped was a teething dummy I'd put in the fridge. Aston & Parsons/Anebesol no help. Its the 2nd lot of jabs today so hope he's sleepy afterwards. I've had 2 hrs sleep. Its going to be a loooong day.Toe is now fine though.

fluffy-congrats on the weight gain

fidelma-glad you are safe. Re the writing-yes,absolutely start with stories family, those natural everyay observations

devils-hope snow not affecting you badly. its all sheet ice here now.Have been going slightly potty not able to go outside.

rubu and iggly-hope the dcs settle soon, these growth spurts are a killer aren't they? I thought we had ours last week . How wrong was I!

devilsadvocaat · 07/01/2010 07:21

morning all!

ht - we've had a lot of snow here, a foot yesterday, expected more today. we're in berkshire which has been one of the worse places in the south.

ds1 got up at 6.15 this morning, dh couldn't be bothered to get up which was a bit annoying as 1) he doesn't even have work today and 2) charlie was up twice last night for a feed. nevermind, i'm up now and am having strong coffee.

went out in the snow yesterday afternoon for ages with ds1. i we built a snow duck which was great fun.

we have had two massive tax rebates over the christmas period, totaling a whole month's salary we have bought flights to the pil house in france in august and have put some aside for fixing our garden fence which blew down in the wind and spending money for the holiday. we put some in the boys savings account too. the money left over is to be split between myself and dh for new clothes when we get to our target weights! mine is my pre preg weight and after xmas stuffing 1 and a half stones the other good thing is that we should be geting a little more each month now as we were in the wrong tax bracket but how much more, i'm not sure.

enjoy your day, whatever you're doing

twinklegreen · 07/01/2010 08:45

Morning all, still pretty snowy here dh has been off work the last two days which has been lovely. He's gone this morning and hasn't come back yet so hopefully he's made it!

Amelie is starting to wake up a bit more than she used to (she was doing 11 hrs stretches every night) but it's not too bad. She's still a very contented and chilled out little thing I have always fed mine to sleep (until they are 13mths) and I've never had a problem with them sleeping through so I'll probably just carry on the same. I have also started to think about weaning, I did both the other children at 16wks, Amelie is over 14wks now but I'm going to try and keep her going on exclusive bf as long as possible. I won't make it to 6mths but I like to put it off until 20wks at least.

devils I had a massive and unexpected tax rebate whilst I was on materninty leave with dd1, it was the best thing ever!! right before xmas too Mine was a few thousand and I bought a car If anyone else wants to claim tax back there's a special form you fill in, you can get it from the post office.

fluffy glad to hear about the weight gain

ht iggly ruby hope things improve today

to fidelma and hc

Igglybuff · 07/01/2010 10:04

devils great news on the rebate! Did you apply or did they do it for you? I have to apply for one as being on maternity leave means I'll be overtaxed for the part of the year I was working full time.

HC we had to book the 12 week jabs ourselves - only 8 week ones were automatic. So worth giving doc a ring?

fidelma 18 times!! Gosh, poor you

William is showing no sign of feeding properly yet but I think his cold might have something to do with it as he struggles with a blocked nose. Hoping to try and brave the ice to get to docs...

smallone · 07/01/2010 10:57

Hi all, my computer seems to be briefly allowing me on here, so haven't caught up yet, but have read this page.

Iggly, sorry if this has already been suggested - have you tried giving him expressed milk? That might give a clue as to whether its the milk or the boob he's struggling with. Saline drops and feeding in a steamy bathroom can help a blocked nose. Infacol is fantastic for wind. Maybe try ringing someone for advice rather than having to go out?

HT, convinced george is teething too, had a day of screaming and dribbling yesterday. Powders only really work if the teeth are close to cutting through, otherwise the only thing I've found to help is calpol, I give it in desperation if I know he's in need of a sleep.

I started weaning dd at 24wks and will aim to do the same this time. She was a skinny little thing too and is also Ella, must be the name! She jumped at solids tho and is now a little chunk!

HC - nurse also told us just to book in for jabs as the reminders can be unreliable.

Hope everyone had a happy christmas and new year, who knows when I'll be allowed on again!

BellaCullen · 07/01/2010 11:23

Hi everyone got growth spurt here too last two days Nathaniels been feeding constanly and slept badly at night. Its such hard work at least its a few of us and we know its normal. He also finally had his first set of jabs yesterday and is suffering from that.Gave him calpol during the night as he just wouldnt sleep kept crying and nothing would settle him.he did go to sleep at 7.30pm on his own yesterday so good result with that but then woke up from 11pm.

Hes also put on 6ozs in the last week which is great. Fluffy great on the weight gain its such a relief when they finally gain good amount isnt it?

Wow managed to put him down awake in his basket twice today and he`s gone to sleep alone.

We`ve got some snow here too but not as bad as some of you still school closed today so DP can take them to the park later.
xx

HappyTangerine · 07/01/2010 12:56

After all the stress of weight gain, Joseph was weighed on the old fruit & veg style scales again and he's now 11lb 14-he's put on almost 2lbs in 3 and a half weeks! He was very funny-lay down in the scales and posed with one hand behind his head.Hv got him to stay still for a minute to take the weight and he suddenly did a huge fountainy wee-hv just jumped of the way in time! So I'm really pleased, its made it all worthwhile when I've been so close to giving up.He screamed blue murder at the jabs. Daddy was evil one this time, I got to give the comforting cwtches.

Bella-congrats on the weight gain and the sleeping!

smallone-ah, thanks for that. Ineffetive powder makes a lot of sense now!

Iggly-I had a similar problem lat week when Joseph had a cold. I ended up putting shower on for ages and feeding in the bathroom

fidelma-here's hoping you have a better night

twinklegreen - 11 hour stretches! (weeps)

devils -many congrats on the tax rebate

HC-my hv makes the appointments for next set of jabs when we're there having jabs

love to everyone, stay safe on the skating rink streets x

CalypsoFramboise · 07/01/2010 14:26

Hello all!

It certainly is like an ice-rink here too in central London, so much so that I though that I was finally going to have to use the pram to get to baby massage! As it is the midwife's car didn't start so it was cancelled, so the pram remains unused

HT horray for Joseph's huge weight gain(!), well done both of you, you're finally getting there! Also bravo to fluffycats and bella on the same front, all those mincepies have fattened our babies up nicely Although no sign at all of any growth spurting here, and we're still crawling our way up the 7th centile.

fidelma roast at your cottage sounds wonderful!

DA you lucky lady - all that money back must be great

twinklegreen 11
HOURS!! wow! I hope that she settles back into that, I would love more than 2.5hrs stretches, but I have to wake her as she's still so small...

smallone poor George's teething, fingers crossed it doesn't continue to cause too much distress.

I'm at all of you planning to wean soon! Annalise is 14weeks and still shows no interest in food whatsoever. But I was planning to excl BF until 6months anyway, especially as she's so vommity - mopping up breastmilk is one thing, but partially digested potato, urgh!

My brother's girlfriend's was telling me that her nephew has developed this strange quirk of being obsessed with appliances. He's only 4 but apparently the first thing he asks when he meets people is 'what brand is your washing maching? What brand is your kettle?' haha cute but odd

How much daytime napping are your LO doing? I'm getting Annalise down about 30mins mid morning, 2 hours after lunch (broken though have to keep popping upstairs) and maybe 30mins again c5pm (she goes down about 8pm). What are you doing?

rubyslippers · 07/01/2010 16:08

will catch up with thread later ... but how on earth do you get your LOs to sleep without feeding?

Ruby feeds before all her naps and either feeds to sleep or if i can i unlatch her and she drifts off in my arms

her naps have got to just 30 mins - so when she wakes she can't get back to sleep ... today she woke after her nap and i fed her again and then she slept for another 40 mins on my knee

yet on Xmas day she slept for 3 hours in the day!

at night she sleeps for anywhere from 3 hours to 8 hours so what's up with the daytime sleep?????

devilsadvocaat · 07/01/2010 18:32

yeah we always feed to sleep. spent ages worrying about it with ds1, then we did sleep training at 6 months ish and he's always slept 7-7 since. we'll do the same with charlie.

some days charlie naps a lot in the day, sometimes not much at all. he went to bed again at 7.30 yesterday and slept til 10 for a feed. it was nice having the evening to myself. can't imagine he'll do it again today as he's been asleep most of the afternoon.

got my second weigh in tomorrow, i seriously hope i've lost as i've been hungry this week. missing my jogging too.

peachespaige · 08/01/2010 08:18

Morning all.

Wow what a great tax rebate.

Fred will be 12 weeks tomorrow and we are in growth spurt hell too. He had started going from 10pm until 3am and then until 6. Thats out of the window now. Plus his daytime sleeps are 10 minute cat naps too.

He cluster feeds all evening too Ruby, so no bedtime for us yet either.

Well to update you all. Dh went to see a specialist on Monday and he actually has pneumonia....after losing our friend to this in December, we were really shocked. They think he had swine flu which caused pneumonia. My friend recently lost his friend this way too so thank goodness we caught it in time.
The bathroom upstairs has a major leak which the previous owner has tiled over so the kitchen ceiling came down on Tuesday!!!
Both of my other ds are off of school and nursery but I cant take them too far in the snow because Fred has a bad cough and has to stay in.
Anyway we are in Northwest London so its more like frozen ice now anyway.

Great story Fidelma

Hc my diet is a forgotten thing of the past!

ht 18 times

fluffy great news on the weight gain.

kowaikiwi youre doing great, small steps and be kind to yourself.

peachespaige · 08/01/2010 08:20

Meant to say devils and iggly, Fred like to crunch his gums shut on my nipple!

Sorry if Ive missed anyone else.

rubyslippers · 08/01/2010 10:37

PP - your poor DH. Wishing him a speedy recovery

big hugs to everyone - Ruby was in bed with me last night as she was feeding so often and just not settling

i want to cry and i have got a houseful today

is everyone still stuck at home? Our road is like an ice rink ... DH ventured out last night in my car to pick some supplies up but i have not left the house since Tuesday

HappyTangerine · 08/01/2010 11:16

ruby-yes, I'm still stuck at home and going slightly potty from cabin fever. I dare not venture out on the ice though-I am accident prone at the best of times

PP-your poor dh, how scary. Sending him get well vibes

twinklegreen · 08/01/2010 15:57

peaches sorry to hear about your husband, hope he's on the mend now... and the roof coming in

ruby We were stuck at home for a few days, the children were going a bit stir crazy. Have been out and about in the car yesterday and today though, it's ok as long as I take it VERY slow.

Amelie had her jabs yesterday, she was ok but they did knock her out a bit, she slept for most of the day afterwards... she was back to her old self by the evening though. Also had her weighed and she's now 13lb3oz so she's puting on 1 or 2 ounces a week, which is exactly what my dd1 did, not surprising really as all she seems to do is sleep and suck her thumb .

Hope you all have a good snow weekend x

HumphreysCorner · 08/01/2010 16:05

peaches-hope DH feels better soon.

School is closed today but we really don't have much snow. Icy though so don't think I'll risk rushing the girls to dancing at 9am in the morning. I think it may be too early/cold to follow my diet properly. May wait a month or so.

M is dribbling and pooing lots, don't know why. Will have to go and see the vicar soon to arrange a baptism in May.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Waves!

PP - I hope your dh gets better soon. William has clamped on my nipple a couple of times when asleep (still not feeding when awake - have spoken to NCT who've given me tips). OUCH!
ruby I've been for a walk in the local park which was nice! But felt a bit risky as had William in the sling. We made it ok though.

All this talk of diets... madness surely! I'm using breastfeeding as an excuse to eat eat eat...

fidelma · 08/01/2010 22:18

PPhope that you are all ok.Sening healing/mending vibes to you and yours.

Just had Fiday night heaven.Homemade curry, hot bath with a white company candle, chocolate and Country Living magazine bliss no wine as I am not bothered with it, DH drinks my share OH AND ALL OUR DC IN BED !!!!!

As you can see no diets here.Still hopping that Connor will suck it all off me in the next 3 months.

I broke a tooth yesterday. I managed to get an appointment today. DH has taken the big car, our lane is unpassable unless you have a 4 x 4 which our other his impractical car isn't.

SO I had to get Connor, DS1 and myself dressed up for the Arctic.Walk with the 3 wheeler to the end of the lane where my mum was waiting with her car to drive us all to the dentist Oh well our dentist is a love, I gave him a bottle of wine as he is always fitting one of us in at short notice.(I want to encourage his good will) Tooth fixed

At 4pm i rememberd that I hadn't given the hens their evening water. So I went into the field to do so, leaving all the children in the house as DH was home with an IT guy trying to sort out all our IT needs (total nightmare for all concerned. IT makes me go insane)Hens fed and watered when I spy our bright red sledge lying abandoned in the snow.We tried to sledge in this field a week ago and it was not very successful.I decided that I would give it a little go,hopping to report back that the field was now open for sledging.Well on I got and I used my hands to give myself a start WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I did not stop for at least 1/4 of a mile WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE S * * *Then I realised that I would have to walk back up

The field is open for sledging tomorrow

Connor is still feeding every 2 hours day and night.I dream of sleep.
