Hi all
fluffy Nathaniel is a slow weight gainer too at birth was 8lbs10 and is now at 12 weeks 11 lbs 1 took him forever to finally get over 11 lbs.
Dont worry youre doing fine.I was worried too but saw a bf consultant today and she reassured me he was latching on great but will only drink for short period 3-5 mins but means he will drink little and often. But seems to go 6 hours at night still. She said no baby would starve itself and always drink as much as they need. You could express milk and try in a bottle just so you can get a break yourself.BF consultant suggested that too but didnt mention formular once. Completely different to HV who said I should top him up with formular and try with a spoon or cup as hes refusing from bottle.

Nathaniel seems to need to burp just after short amount of drinking and wont go back on after burping him.Really need to try some grioe water again. He also has big chubby cheeks which stick out further than his mouth(hope that makes sense). This makes it harder for him to reach nipple and he gets quickly frustrated if he doesnt get it in his mouth quick enough.Never noticed that before she pointed it out.
Last two night hes been screaming from 11pm for two hours not sure whats wrong with him only thing that helps is walking round with him.Luckily Dp is on hand to do that bit.
Can`t believe another year is nearly finished lets see what the new year has in store for us.
xx

ruby & Igly-I'll join you in the sleepy corner. J feeding every 2 hours day and night, apart from the odd 3hr stint. I feel like all I do is sit in the airmchair and feed.

fidelma cottages are gorgeous. DH feels I need to live somewhere warm-he hasn't quite grasped that I like cold weather. I would much rather be cold than hot and love rain-I am Welsh so kind of have to love it. I just want to have decent heating if I'm in a cold area!

Re the weaning-a few people have told me to start weaning at 16 weeks. Will it give me a bit more freedom? I am so tired all the time and can't get anything done.

fluffy I have had some big issues re weight-see a post I did in breastfeeding titled breastfeeding and slow weight gain. Joseph was 8lb at birth and was 9lb 14 at 9 weeks. He's very long and I'm trying to ignore the centiles chart at the back of the red book as he seems happy and healthy enough.I almost gave into the hv rec to top up with formula but decided not to in the end, just didn't feel it was right for us.

I got hold of some teething powder today and it seems to be helping a little. Odd little packaging. Joe is still chomping on his fist a lot though. Sometimes I think he is really frustrated at being a baby-he seems to want to do more than his little body will allow, especially with regard to holding himself and his head up. When you think about it, teething must be hell for a little baby and they can't really tell us just how rotton it makes them feel

All that brings me neatly onto a question-does anyone else's baby dislike the pram and keep trying to pull themselves up in a sitting position in it? If so, how do you combat it? Its almost like he's bored but I know he's too young to go in a pushchair yet.

fidelma · 30/12/2009 22:30

Just posted on the old site I didn,t think my cottage link worked so if you are interested try this www.my-holidayscotland.com

Connor went to bed at 6pm and had a feed at 9.30pm thats good going for us

I am off to bed ever hopeful of a good nights sleep.

more snow here tonight.

Igglybuff · 30/12/2009 22:54

Welcome to the sleepy corner HT! ruby how long did your DS suffer for? We're hoping William will grow out of it

fidelma will check out the link as would love a Scottish holiday!

pushchairs - I've noticed William doesn't like the pram so we've been using the carseat on the travel system. I was looking up on when he can use the pushchair as can't be in the carseat too long and dome say 4/5 months. It depends on size of baby and if your puschair can recline I think.

weaning - there was a heated debate on this not long ago here I'll admit I think weaning is best left til later even with william having reflux (as some think it might help). Interesting debate though!

CalypsoFramboise · 31/12/2009 10:47

Hi everyone!

ruby, igglybuff and fidelma GAH you sound like you're all having a horrednous time with the lack of sleeping, I can't imagine how exhausted you must all be

fluffycats Annalise is also tiny and excl BF, but my HV has never suggested formula top-ups, mainly as her nappy output is normal and is clearly alert and happy, but has suggested that I feed from both breasts at each feed, thereby increasing the fatty content of the milk and Annalise has moved from the 2nd to 7th centile - small improvements . Personally, unless you want to top up, I don't think it essential.

HT sorry to hear things are still so tough with Joseph, and I hope it eases up. Does Joseph give every sign that he's ready for weaning? I was told 17weeks was the earliest and only if they're clearly ready.
You like the cold?! I do love Scotland too, very good memories of camping in Wester Ross, stunning landscape, but happy to get back to smelly London too
I've never used a pram, but I have noticed that Annalise is considerably more alert and interested in her environment when I'm out with her in the sling so perhpas Joseph would like that to? Its better on the spine and pelvis that being too early in a pushchair.

Annalise went for a weigh-in yesterday, and as I mentioned above moved from 2nd to 7th centile, despite vommiting being really quite bad over the xmas week. She was measured for length for the 1st time and is over the 80th centile! No wonder she looks so skinny. No sign of the '12 week spurt' here though, but if she continues to put on 5oz a week, I'll be pleased. No sign of teeth although lots of drooling amougst the cascades of vomit!

And if one more person says 'enjoy it whilst they're so young, it'll go so fast' Heh, I can't WAIT until they're bigger and this passes, I'm not having so much fun! Actually DH bought me the Mumsnet guide to toddlers for Chrimbo, and I've had a quick glance through and scared myself silly - yikes; what have I let myself in for!!

Xmas story - it was like groundhog day with MiL, she has total present amnesia; I got the same things for the 3rd year running: a tea, coffee and sugar caddy set, a batch of horrible teatowels, 2 horrible mugs, some plastic crap item for piling teabags onto (a pet hate of mine) and a dustpan and brush (although I got a dish-drainer instead last year). Deary me, I feel a mamouth post on the local freecycle board coming on.... :D

Hosting a NY eve party tonight but only with other BF tired mummies so we'll see if we make it to midnight.

Wishing you all lots of fun and happiness (and more sleep!) for 2010, X

fidelma · 31/12/2009 14:58

fidelma - your post made me cry but how true

enjoy your party

iggly - DS was on meds for his reflux. Before that he was really poorly with it ... it did improve as he got older and by 7 months he was off the meds and a lot, lot better

calypso - poor present buying from your MIL ... have a great party

love to you all and here's to a great year ahead

xxxx

devilsadvocaat · 31/12/2009 15:23

happy nye everyone!

ime, weaning = a real faff. longer you can leave it the better. more washing, cooking, sterilising etc. also, milk is more calorific than food so won't necessarily make them sleep longer.

hooray for tonight, can't wait for my steak and champers!

littlepea72 · 31/12/2009 15:28

Ive had to give Faith Paracetamol at night, the pain was getting to be to much for her, i think the teeth will be cutting through soon. It did help & we got back to the 7.30pm-4am-7.30am feeds. Saying that, it could change at anytime, so i will take it 1 day at a time.

I will start giving Faith fruit puree'd in about 5 weeks time. She is now almost 16lb's at only 11 weeks! She is long & tubby....oh the shame! We cant fill her! My DS was long & thin, he never put on much weight, so dont worry about it fluffy. They are all made up differently.

Right better go....we are almost snowed in here, with more snow storms to come. Im making a big pot of Irish Stew with crusty bread for dinner, just what is needed in this weather! Not going out tonight, wouldnt find our way back in it! Have a great night everyone & wishing you all the best for 2010! Talk to you all next year xxxx

fidelma · 31/12/2009 15:44

just read my post and am laughing at the spelling mistakes. Here's to steak and champers

Igglybuff · 31/12/2009 16:29

Happy New Year! What a year. at having a toddler this time next year can't wait!

William met his great great uncle today - almost a 90 year age gap! Incredible. But sad too as he's so old and rapidly declining

Anyway not to dwell on gloom - come midnight I'll probably be feeding William and in bed. Roll on 2010!

kowaikiwi · 31/12/2009 16:44

Hi everyone, it's been a while but I have been reading.
Happy New Year. We are just staying in but it's lovely spend some time with DP after a very busy December (he's a butcher!). I might cook a curry to keep us warm, and I do have a bottle of bubbly in the fridge, but the last time I had 2 glasses of that Sadie's nappies the next day were unbelievable!!
fidelma love your post, how scary lovely does all that sound!
All the best for 2010 everyone - thanks again for being there through this whole magical process.

HappyTangerine · 31/12/2009 17:26

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
I have loved getting to know you all in 2009 and am so excited about 2010 and all the adventures it will bring.

I'm sitting here with my feet up, snuggling DH and a sleeping baby in my arms, just relaxing. We're having a quiet night at home.

fidelma what a lovely post! Enjoy your night

Calypso-LOL at your presents, good luck with freecycle!
Don't get me wrong, Joseph is an absolute joy-grumpy oddball at times but is a lot of fun and I'm totally in love with him. My difficulties all stem from sleep deprivation and the fact that he wants to be on me and only me all the time-he cries with DH if I go off for a nap or shower even. (DH getting increasingly upset by this and its one of the reasons we want to move and start over in a job with normal hours). Its been isolating as SIL and MIL decided he was like this because I didn't want to put him down because SILs 2 girls weren't like this so it must all be down to me and the way I am mothering-nothing could be further from the truth. MIL now can see this for herself after Christmas dinner . The loss of personal freedom has knocked me for six. I've been on the Dr Sears site today and Joe is definitely in the fussy baby category. Am thinking of abandoning pram altogether and just having sling. Which one have you got?

Iggly wow, 90 year age gap!

BTW, I finally, finally got the hang of facebook! Must remember to post on it now!

Igglybuff · 31/12/2009 19:07

HT, yes the loss of personal freedom is overwhelming at times but when you look at your baby it all melts away. Glad your MIL has now been put right! Boo to your SILs. My neighbour has a DS of a similar age and he is the same - only wants his mummy.

I've got two slings - a baby bjorn for outdoors and a close baby carrier for indoors. The close baby carrier is more of a fabric sling and much easier, especially when you need to feed at home. Bjorn feels more solid for outdoor pursuits and comes with a fleece cover - great for the cold weather (as you can layer baby and not worry about overheating when going into shops etc).

Roll on 2010

HumphreysSnowCorner · 31/12/2009 20:17

Happy New Year ladies!

peachespaige · 01/01/2010 16:43

Hi everyone.

What a few weeks Ive had.

I really dont want to bring a downer on to the thread as you all seem so up-beat...even without sleep lol.

Dp found his best friend, my very old and good friend dead a few weeks ago. He hadnt heard from him for a couple of days and got concerned so he went to his house and ended up smashing the window to get in and found him fully dressed laying on his bed with a little blood coming out of his mouth.

He phoned me straight away and we then had to break the news to his 70 something year old mum and dad, just hideous, she was screaming on the phone.
He was an only child.
Anyway we helped the organise the funeral and sorted out all the things you do when someone dies. It was a strong strain of Pneaumonia that he didnt even know he had, he just laid down and never woke up.

Dh ended up in hospital this morning, turns out he has a severe chest infection and can barely move, Im on anti-bs for a throat infection and Fred has a rotten cold, da daaa!! Thats us at the mo.

Once again Im so sorry for the negative post, I just wanted to let you all know Im still here and have been reading your posts.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL.
