Evening all! Veggie how lovely the school sounds! What a great find.

Effie Great that your friend is all good.

My sister just rang with news that one of her friends - from NCT class so with a DD the same age as hers, and both PG with second - has lost her baby: at 39 weeks. How utterly awful. Apparently she just felt something was wrong, went for an emergency scan and there was, well, no heartbeat. My sister (she's about 35 weeks PG) obviously very very upset too. Made me feel very lucky to have happy healthy baby.

On a lighter note, DD on good form at the moment, no sign of walking any time soon but very sociable. Today she attempted to feed the baby in the next high chair her lunch. Last night it was a complete stranger on the crowded train she wanted to feed croissant too. Poor chap didn't know what to do

Kayzr · 19/11/2009 20:43

Hello,

Kiwi That is so so sad. I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to go through pregnancy and then lose the baby right at the end.

Veggie The school sounds brilliant. So glad you like it.

Daisy I find that orange juice always gets the boys moving again if they get constipation.

I had 2 fillings today and need to go to the hospital to have my wisdom teeth out. It will probably be a general which I am not too keen on.

Hope you are all well!

zoejeanne · 19/11/2009 23:02

Hello everyone, great news from me ? I got the job I interviewed for last week . And they seem so nice, they agreed to me doing 3 days a week until Christmas and then 4 days a week from then on (and DH is able to look after DD on the 4th day, which is great as my concern was for her having so many long days at nursery). And they are happy for me to work 9.15 til 4.45 so I can take E to nursery and pick her up. Oh and they?ve suggested getting a student in on the 5th day, so I don?t have to squash all the work into 4 days. I?m sure I wouldn?t be that nice to someone just starting, they are so accommodating, it has all come together very nicely. The only possible downer is they want me to start next Wednesday ? eek, so soon. But I suppose that means I won?t spend ages dwelling on the fact I?ll be leaving DD, but this week I?ve been madly taking her to every baby group going as it?ll be our last chance.

But blah blah blah, enough about me, there?s been lots going on with everyone else too, where to start ...

Firstly a great big pat on the back to LadyT for finishing your book. Tell the publishers to get it printed extra quick as I want a copy in my Christmas stocking! I can imagine your plumber going back home and saying to his family over tea ?you?ll never guess what I saw today...??

Thank you for digging out the list PD, really lovely to read. I really can?t believe our LO?s are about to turn one (in fact three on that list are one now ) ? this year has flown by and it still feels like we?ve only just become parents, but then I also can?t remember what it was like to not be a Mum either. Needless to say, I bet it wasn?t as lovely.

Veggie it drives me mad when DH says he?ll do something and then gets distracted by a phone call or something for about 6 1/2 hours, DH?s favourite is ?I?m too hungry DD is too tired for a bath tonight, she?ll enjoy it much more in the morning?, and then having to dash off to work after all and not getting any bathtime fun at all. Grrr. Great news about the school though, is your DS1 excited about going there? And doesn?t he speak a bit of Chinese? If I?ve got that right he?ll well away and have tons of friends, speaking two languages

What a lovely boss you have JJ

Great to hear your update Kiwi, and very good news on the 4 days at work. So sad to hear about your sister?s friend, I just can?t even start to imagine how that would feel

Trace I?ve been thinking about you lots, so was pleased to hear your latest. I thought the same as JJ, that the class might be supportive and MN-like, at the very least you?ll know you?re not alone and hopefully pick up some good tips from the other Mums and Dads. As of next week I?ll be passing your village everyday, so if you ever need someone to pop in, make you a cuppa and leave again, just let me know

I hope your DS gets better quickly Summer, and that you and your DH can get something sorted on the sleep thing (although it sounds like your DS may well sort it himself once he?s well again)

Sybil I hope you had a nice afternoon and shook off that sad feeling, days like that are just not nice

Kayz I insisted on a general to have my wisdom teeth out because a) I?m a big wimp and b) I?d heard a rumour that they have to sit on your chest to get the teeth out so decided that ignorance would be bliss. Oh, and after a general they recommend you take a week of work

I am amazed, and very impressed at all the walking babies. DD loves standing up, but is yet to take her hands off whatever it is she?s clinging to and take even one step. We?ve bought her a little brick trolley for her birthday, so I?m hoping she won?t try out any walking til then or it won?t be that great a pressie!

Oh, and before I go, I?ve been meaning to ask for ages ? is anyone letting their LO?s feed themselves, from a spoon that is, not just finger food? DD is getting really keen on grabbing the spoon from me and is being quite stubborn and clamping her lips shut when I do it, but I?m not convinced she?ll get anywhere if I leave her to it. Has anyone had any success? Is it worth a try yet?

Night night x

Veggiemummy · 20/11/2009 07:22

Morning all. ZJ congratulations that is fantastic. I think your new employees are being amazing but don't forget it's because you are as amazing so they need to offer you a good package!

Kiwi that poor lady that is so painful to even thin about she and her family are going through. Imagine how hard it will be to try again and go through the whole thing again.

Sorry about your teeth Kayz but the week off afterwards sounds good.

Oh and ZJ I usually give DS2 his own spoon and put a bit of porrige etc on it between my spoonfuls. You'd be surprised how much will actually go in.

Aubergines · 20/11/2009 10:33

Hi Everyone

Just a quickie as I have promised DD1 I will bake fairy cakes and she is raring to go. I just wanted to let you know that DH is back and we are all healthy again (touchwood). It is so lovely having him home. I had a long chat with him last night and he has agreed to drop a couple of his upcoming trips. There will still be a few but maybe now I have coped with us all being ill while he is gone I will actually be able to cope with any absence.

I also have a question. How many of your DCs still have a morning lap as well as their long lunchtime nap? DD2 has been in the same routine for months: an hour from 9-10 and then two hours from 1-3. However, she is starting to complain when I put her down at 9am so I wonder whether she is not tired enough for it. The thing is she is not ready to get to 1pm with no nap because she is grumpy by 9am, just not tired enough to actually sleep. Anyone else experiencing this? I have no experience to draw on from DD1 as she never had a recognisable nap routine.

xx

MomOrMum · 20/11/2009 14:43

Hi Aub. I am a master in the science of napping as my DS is a total nap lunatic. I tend to keep him up 3.5-4 hrs, then put him down for no more than 35 minutes (yes, seriously). If he sleeps longer than 35 mins, he won't sleep in the aft without a fight.

You could try pushing her to 9:30 and then only letting her sleep until 10:00 or 10:15?

Congrats on the job ZJ!

TheInvisibleHand · 20/11/2009 15:12

veggie - your post about DS's school made me well up in sympathy! So pleased you have found the right place for him.

Kiwi - so, very very sorry for your friend - that is awful. I know a couple of people who lost babies at around 7 months and it was really terrible. If its any comfort though, both those people did have healthy babies after. Doesn't replace the poor baby that's lost though.

ZJ - congratulations!!

Aub - enjoy having your DH back. Glad you managed to agree a cut back on some of the travel. Can totally understand the pressures in both directions.

No nap wisdom here I'm afraid. DS tends to still have two naps (as long as he doesn't decide there is something more exciting going on) of varying length. I think its always a bit tricky when they are in between needing a nap and not. Had a really hard time with DD when she gave up afternoon naps. She generally conked out for a nap eventually, but late, and then wouldn't settle to sleep at night till almost 10, so had to just decide to get her to do without - in the first week or so, it was a question of distracting her through naptime. I think you probably just have to experiment until you figure out what will work maybe a shorter, later morning nap like MoM suggests, or maybe even a slightly earlier afternoon nap (if that's at all feasible with lunchtimes etc).

Rubena · 20/11/2009 15:37

Hi Zoe, Congrats on the job [spotofcheerfulness!]
I sometimes give ds a spoon as well, but I always have control of the master one or it ends up in him just flicking his cereal across the room, but strangely when he has a clean spoon he puts it in his mouth like he's eating properley

Aub ds has 2 naps still. One around 10am ish and the other around 2 or 3pm. They are totally random lengths and I leave him until he wakes up anywhere from 40-90 mins these days. Though if one is 90 the other is never more than 40-60. Funnily enough I was just wondering today if he really needed both as recently they have been quite short. he slept until 8am today, so I let him stay up to see if he needed the morning nap, and it all went tits up at about 12 noon and he had to have a nap, so he went down for an hour, woke up with raging rosy cheeks not wanting any lunch except milk, and he has just gone back down now which I'd say will last until about 430 so about an hour.

Rubena · 20/11/2009 15:37

Oh and ds is the same Invis - if he decides it's more exciting not to - it's impossible but usually because we are out.

TheInvisibleHand · 20/11/2009 15:53

Rubena - yes, def if we're out. DD used to be willing to sleep in her buggy, but for DS being out and about is far too interesting, so will only sleep if truly exhausted. Also happens if there is a bit too much excitement at home - visitors or whatever - DS then decides he is missing all the fun and will often protest and refuse to sleep if left in his room.

jumpjockey · 20/11/2009 16:41

sigh, dd has been deciding not to nap for any decent length of time while at nursery - had half an hour in the morning (10.30 til 11), they called at 2 saying she's really tired and a bit fractious, could I come and fetch her so she doens't associate nursery with being upset. Brought her straight home and she hasn't slept since despite my best efforts with the boobs, pushchair, sleepy music etc etc.

Generally she looks really tired about 3 hours after she last woke up and 'usually' goes to sleep 30 mins after that - so awake at 6.30 means nap at 10, for an hour or so if she's in her cot. Then again at about 2.30. No such thing here as the long after lunch nap She's also taken again to the waking up and going "burble burble" enough to wake me up from about 3am, but going back to sleep herself. Yawn...

kiwi am so sorry for your friends, how utterly dreadful.

Rubena · 20/11/2009 17:14

how awful for your friend kiwi

daisydora · 20/11/2009 17:32

kiwi that is just horrid to hear about your friend. I can't even begin to think how you deal with something like that.

veggie Fab news on the school, in fact I now want to move where you are so DD can go. It sounds fantastic, your DS will love it!

ZJ woohoo for the new job!!! They would have been daft in the head not to have wanted you

aub glad you are better and that DH has agreed to drop some of the trips away. That must be such a relief to you. No advice on the napp I'm afraid. DS is rubbish at it, but generally has 1 nap a day. The past few days it tends to be between 11 and 1pm. Can't get him to sleep for more than an hour either. But on the whole he does seem okay with this.

Give DS a spoon!!!! Only if its clean, really to give him one loaded with food is just silly. He will has pebble-dashed the walls and its not a good look.

kayz ouch for the teeth! I'm a wuss as far as dental procedures are concerned. Even a week off work couldn't make it alright for me. I hope it goes okay.

On other news....we have soft poo from DS!!! Hooray for lactulose (well that and me shoving ridiculous amounts of water at him 24/7).

Veggiemummy · 20/11/2009 19:13

Hi lovelies. Hooray for soft stools Daisy. Hope they are nicer for your poor boys bott bott. Well done on getting more water into him.

I had a nice day met up with my one buddy over here the one I met on MN she is so friendly and just so lovely. I think once DS1 starts school I'm gonna join the Australian & new zealand womens club as apparently it's quite good fun. Ill also go to a couple of the groups this lady goes to as she has sussed out the good ones. Will be good for DS2 as well.

I really need some boots. I have seen some casual/hard wearing/waterproof/but still a bit feminine, ones in a shop near here but they are quite expensive so I'm hoping I can find some a bit cheaper when I come over. Shoes are surprisingly expensive here.

We are trying out one of the local pizza places today yum.

I'm off now to start a NL meet up thread. The other MNer and I thought we should scout out some of the ladies that answered my moving question thread, and see if we can do an NL meet up.

Veggiemummy · 20/11/2009 19:15

Oh Daisy, if you came over we could drop the LOs at school and then meet in an...erm...coffeeshop.

Olipop · 20/11/2009 20:25

Hello! Do you remember me? I fell off the keyboard about 8 months ago!
I think of all you lovely ladies very very often and wonder what you and your (very nearly one) little ones are up to.
I am going to have a quick scan of the thread to see if I recognise any of the names or whether you have all name changed so much I will have no idea.

Just to remind you, I had Heidi on the 2nd of Jan so I think she is one of our youngest bubs.

Back in a bit when I have seen whats going on x

Veggiemummy · 20/11/2009 20:34

Hey Oli, I think I was your SS, was the bath stuff nice? How's things I can't believe it's been a year.

Olipop · 20/11/2009 20:42

Hello! Bath stuff was lovely although I think the little ones ended up enjoying more luxurious baths than I did! Quick shower with them plugged into 'WonderPets' is more my style these days. I can't believe that it was about a year ago that we had the London meet up and that we were all anticipating our arrivals. I feel like it was only yesterday and yet also a whole lifetime away. I can't imagine how I didn't know my cheeky little girl this time last year. She is such a character. She started walking this week. From cruising around the furniture with a couple of very timid, stumbly steps she suddenly got up and walked to her brothers bedroom (about 20 steps) and that has been it ever since. I'll have to try and upload a photo (she has a blonde fuzzy dandilion clock for a hair style). Still catching up on your posts!

SummerLightning · 20/11/2009 22:30

Hello!

kiwi sorry to hear about your sisters friend. That is just awful.

ZJ what great news about the job. Employers sound great! What is it you do (I think it is something geeky so I am being nosy!?)

Hello olipop!!! Yes please to some pictures of the walking dandelion!

Oh sleeping and naps - DS's morning nap has always been late (never one for the 9am nap), but it moved later and later from 10 to 11, til he was having an early lunch and one nap at about 12-12:30. He only sleeps about 1.5-2hrs in total in the day though.
Aub could you just try his first nap a bit later, and then let him have his second at about 2 instead of just after lunch? (this is what DS used to do, disadvantage being he seemed out of sync with almost every other baby we met up with!)

Anyway, when DS went to nursery his naps went haywire and he hardly slept at all. He seems to do okish on little sleep though. jj he was so excited by nursery to begin with on his first full day I picked him up and he had had one half hour nap. His eyes looked exhuasted but he was still hyper. He went to sleep at 7 just like a light but woke up at 11 and had BIG tempers. But anyway just to reassure you he did start sleeping longer there (though he still doesn't sleep as much as when he's not there). SO I hope it gets better.

Oh and hoooray (fingers crossed) he was sick again last night but seems better today and had a solid poo. And my parents came to look after him so I could go to work. Also he slept through the night! SO I have my fingers crossed things are getting better.

zoejeanne · 21/11/2009 22:19

DD has never been one for a lunchtime nap Aubi, she tends to have a late morning nap and a late afternoon nap (both 45 minutes ish). However, recently her morning nap has been getting earlier and instead of being about 11.30 is now sometimes around 9.30. And I?ve also noticed this week that she needs waking about 4.30pm or tea and bedtime go a bit haywire, previously she could have a power nap as late as 6pm and still go to bed without a hitch at 7pm. But she?s nowhere near dropping to one nap a day yet, still very much needing two (cue her deciding tomorrow that she?s going to be a one nap girl!). I just hope when she does move to one nap it?s a decent length, as just 45 minutes is not long enough for me to do anything in at the moment. And I?m pleased that you and your DH have found a good compromise on the trips away ? even though my DH is away every week for a couple of nights, whenever its any longer I fall apart without him. And taking of which, Veggie, does the move mean your DH is no longer going away with work?

Hurrah for the soft poo Daisy, is your DS so much happier? DD?s mood always improves tenfold after a big poo, even if she?s not been blocked up

Great to hear from you Olipop, but very of the hair. My greatest wish is for DD to get some, any hair!

Trace I hope you?re enjoying the weekend with your girls? Have you managed to get hold of your CPN yet?

So I offered DD a spoon yesterday, after all your advice, and she looked aghast and handed it straight back to me! I have started giving her finger food in a bowl and she loves to root around to see what?s in there. When she?s done the chewed up pieces of food go back into the bowl and when she?s finished it all she tips the whole bowl upside down across the kitchen floor ? I bet she thinks she?s being helpful

Summer I work in market research ? I design those really irritating questionnaires that people ring up to ask you about just as you?ve sat down for tea. My new, and last job, are/were in tourism, but before that I specialised in alcohol and chocolate products (and loved the freebies from the marketing teams ). I get my geek fix from the data analysis ? lots of lovely spreadsheets, tables and graphs, love excel . So this weekend?s worry, is what to wear in my first day? And Daisy, when do you start your new job?

Curly30 · 22/11/2009 16:57

Hi ladies, not sure if any of you will remember me... the last time i was on it was roughly a year ago when i started ML i went under the name Purple79.

Had my DD Madison lil' beauty on 20th Dec - homebirth hadn't planned it that way but all went surprisingly well with no drugs!

Gonna try and catch up on previous posts.... hope everyones well - good to have found u all again

jumpjockey · 22/11/2009 17:43

will catch up in a minute, but just wanted to say if anyone fancies doing a secret Santa again, DH has said he'll draw the names out of a hat and email everyone the results! If you want to take part, send me a message at [email protected] with your logon, real name and address and if you want a pressie for you or your baby!

Last time we did £10, would that be ok again or shall we make it £5 this time? I reckon if everyone who wants in lets me know by the 4th December, that gives most people a couple of weeks to see the message and then enough time to get pressies in the post.

Hurrah [smilie with santa hat on]

oh and hello curly30! welcome back!

KiwiPanda · 22/11/2009 18:04

Evening all. DD has a cold aka "baby flu" as I now think of it - she's in a right grump. Thank god it's nearly bedtime..

I have nap envy now reading this. DD has two naps, usually around 10ish and 2ish, but they are very very rarely longer than 30 minutes each. Just time for me to sit down, make a cup of tea and then get up again. Bah. I'd LOVE it if she only had one nap if it was a nice long one! I'm a bit nervous about her napping at nursery too becasuse she is a shocker for sleeping in teh day = takes either a walk in the pushchair or DH's patented rocking/Metallica technique

Oh JJ I'm game for some secret santa-ing, will email you shortly

LadyThompson · 22/11/2009 19:02

Hello kids,

Back from a few days in London but I am now back - to pack for Egypt! I hardly have a moment but I just wanted to say cheerio and see you in a week and a bit. Before I go - well done on the job ZJ - two naps here Aubi - smashing about the school Veggie and a big hello again to Oli and Curly.

Wrap up warm you all....

Aubergines · 22/11/2009 19:41

Have a fab time LadyT.
Hi Curly (I used to be another vegtable with the same initial).
Wld love to do a secret Santa JJ.

Ugent question for Veggie. Are you about Veg??? I wondered whether you might know whether DD2 is likely to get any milk from me this evening given I have done only one feed a day, first thing in the morning, for two months? I ask as we are on our way to A&E :-( DD2 vomming all day and has not had a wet nappy since 8am. Out of hours doc said A&E as she can't keep water down and isn't peeing. Hwvr she has been at the breast for an hour with no vom. She is sucking away but I can't tell whether she is getting anything. Do you think some milk will have got into her?
