As I accidentally filled up the old thread I thought I'd better start a new one

Sh*t...MIL is in for Christmas DH is going to be so upset. Apparently they need to get her bloods ready for Chemo, even though until now they hadn't even been told for certain she was going to have it Its all a bloody mess....sorry to vent!

JollyBear · 24/12/2009 13:07

Seasons Greetings everyone!

Congratulations rub! . That is fantastic news. Hope the nausea stays mild.

trace It sounds like thrush to me. I think symptoms vary a lot and itching, prickly and sore is exactly how I felt. The pessary/cream combi sorted it out quickly.

aub Sorry to hear DD is suffering so much teethwise. DD has been the same the last few days, her bum is red raw again too. It makes them so miserable.

Hello to momormum in Canada!

My mum fell on the ice and broke her wrist on Sunday so my dad is at the helm for christmas dinner. We were meant to be going over today but we can't get the car out of the street. So much more snow fell overnight, it is very deep. Looks like we'll have to change our plans.

Anyway, merry christmas everyone, hope you all have lots of food and fun. I can't wait to find out how the mock lobster tasted!!

JollyBear · 24/12/2009 13:11

Sorry cross posted daisy. That's sad news. Someone needs to let you all know what is going on with her treatment, it is unfair for you to find out something important like chemo like that. Will be thinking of you all over Christmas.

EffiePerine · 24/12/2009 13:34

Sorry it's bad news Daisy . Are you going to be able to visit her on Xmas Day?

I'm at work till 2, so far have sorted out a zillion emails and eaten much food. We have a staff restaurant and the chef cooked for 40, not knowing how many would be in. There are about 10 of us, so a lot will be wasted. So silly, esp at this time of year when many are struggling.

Anyway, am sure I will be on over Xmas but just in case HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! You've been a brilliant support and source od laughs over the past year and are an all-round top bunch of people . Wishing you all much love and festivity (and WTF is a veggie lobster?)

effie Yes we can visit on Christmas day, the hospital is only about a 20 minute drive away, so weather permitting we will be okay to go. It's just sad to think that if this is her last Christmas then she has to spend it in hospital. Its also worse as she is generally the original Mrs Christmas - crap and tat galore for all the GC's, first to a party and last to leave etc. Now it looks like she will miss much of it.

However... we still have so much to be thankful for. She is still here, and there are many a family out there who struggle with love ones they have already lost.

notjustanumber · 24/12/2009 13:57

Beans - FWIW I also agree that your DH IBU. I was worried how I would cope with two, and although you will cope, its an adjustment emotionally as well as physically (well was for me, anyway). Towards the very end of the pregnancy and just after DS2 was born I felt very sad for DS1, as we were so good as a three, and I felt I understood him very well, as Aub said above, kind of a proper connection. I loved DS2 very much immediately but wasnt quite sure how he would "fit in", and felt bad for neglecting DS1. So I needed emotional as well as physical support the first few weeks.

All immaterial now, as although I can remember how I felt, I can see that it was a far greater gift to give DS1 a brother than the extra attention DH and I could give him, they are so close. And DS2 is a gorgeous cheeky boy who is a delight Especially when he is laughing at me because I am saying "No" to him

Aub sorry to hear you still have a grumpy baby. Sorry I dont have anything to suggest, except that she sounds like she has a wonderful character, and once that she is able to properly voice her concerns, it will be much easier and she will be so much fun to be around

Well we have had a crafty few days here. Gingerbread house (FAIL - but gingerbread very nice). Salt dough decorations (PASS in a rustic way). Chocolate log - ditto. I have loved having the time off with the boys (despite illness) and now I feel so much less stressed I wish I could write a resignation as an Xmas present to myself....!

Anyway, Happy Christmas to everyone. I hope you all have the best time wherever you are. And of course, thanks for your support this year, it has helped so so much.

And now, to open the wine and chocs....

daisydora · 24/12/2009 13:58

jolly your poor mum! Is your Dad a good cook then?? I do hope you manage to make it there.

notjustanumber · 24/12/2009 14:00

Sorry Daisy, X posted.
Is he going to get out for a bit afterwards, can you save a bit and have a "mini-xmas" for her afterwards ? I hope you are all OK.

Sorry to hear about your mum Jolly

notjustanumber · 24/12/2009 14:01

Sorry, is she going to be out of hospital for a bit afterwards.

notjustanumber · 24/12/2009 14:07

I have made a complete hash of that, I meant can you do another mini-xmas when she gets out.

I will go away now....

daisydora · 24/12/2009 14:22

ha ha njan I know what you mean Funnily enough I said the same thing. I have already bought some food in as we were going round to her house on Boxing Day, and I wanted to take the pressure off FIL to buy things. So for now I have just shoved it in the freezer and hopefully we can sort something out when she gets home.

PureAdam · 24/12/2009 14:35

Christmas is a time to celebrate families... The entire festive holiday celebrates the birth of a child - Jesus Christ. Which is why, for those who are experiencing the holiday with a new baby, this Christmas will be all the more poignant.

What a blessing the birth of a child can make to people's life's. Particularly at this time of year - when we contemplate the meaning of life and the importance of having our loved ones around us.

Having a baby will completely change the way you look at the holidays. While babies are hard work at any time of year, there are a lot of things that will be much more fun this Christmas than they were pre-baby.

For new parents experiencing the Santa ritual for the first time this year, to family gathering to adore your new addition, a longed for baby is surely the icing on top of any Christmas cake.

And many years of celebrating Christmas with your growing baby are set to come. The toys and outfits will change over the years... the age of your child will change each year as you wonder how they have grown up so fast.

But two things will stay the same. The all consuming love you have for them will stay with you from now until your very last Christmas, by which time your bundle of joy may well have their own bundles of joy.

That, and the date, 25th December, will never change. And for that let us be thankful.

Merry Christmas everyone.

waitinggirl · 24/12/2009 16:43

NO NO NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! i thought the festive holiday celebrates the births of MADAM, LITTLE BISOU AND LITTLE SL.

was i wrong? bugger.

a very happy christmas to you all. and thoughts to those of you having to spend it, for whatever reason, away from those you love.

Kayzr · 24/12/2009 18:21

Just had a thought. Mr Baby Bisou is 1 already as it is about 5am over there. Happy Birthday Joshua.

sybilfaulty · 24/12/2009 19:09

Daisy, so sorry to hear MIL is in hospital. Thinking of you all. Your poor mum too, Summer, hope she i OK and your pa can manage some cooking.

Beans, my DH did a cycle ride in October which involved lots of training (at least one day over the weekend over the summer and a couple of evenings) and I was raging. Since DS has been born I must have had, oh let me see, about 3 days in total with no children (exc work) and that is adding up the hours here and there. I told him on several occasions that I thought he was a selfish twat and still stand by that. You will of course cope brilliantly, love it and be ffine but the point is that you should not have to. I am expecting DH's parents to side with him over it (even after the event) so if you can get your outlaws on side, so much the better.

Right, I must go and wrap a thousant presents. Happy birthdays to all our Christmas babies, merry christma to all our Christmas mummies and I'll raise a glass to you all shortly (again, no huge surprises there).

Veggiemincepie · 24/12/2009 20:24

Effie thish shmulled wine isch juscht lovely bunged it all in and warmed it for ages and it's just lovely.

LadyThompson · 24/12/2009 21:28

Hello girls

Well, I am well enough to be enjoying a sparkly spot by the newly decorated and frankly obese Christmas tree, the cards are written and the presents are NEARLY all wrapped, and I will just have to get up early tomorrow for the tidying...My late DH's dad is coming round for the day, 'twill be lovely if rather chaotic.

We didn't have any Christmas Eve babies I don't believe (where's young ZJ with her list?) but happy birthday to Joshua, Eddie and Rosie for the morrow.

WG, does it seem like a year? And to you, Summer? Were you both in hospital already on Christmas Eve?

Happy Christmas to all you wonderful girls who have provided immense cheer all year long, both regulars and not so regulars! I wonder what I did without you all before!

I wanted to look all glam on Christmas Eve but have been forced to abandon this on account of being too busy and too knackered. I might do my nails later. I have slinked into a couple of pairs of new jeans (well, not slinked exactly, more huffed and squeezed...but hey) so that could well end up being my favourite present. My other one is little O, who says "Hello" in a reeeeeeally cute way, saying it to the Christmas tree when I brought her down to see it. Awwwww.

SO:

Beans - Ironman: he is being selfish, end of. But he is clearly set on doing it and you will drive yourself potty ruminating, so make sure he realises that he owes you a biiiiig one. On the other hand, if his parents can make him see sense, so much the better...Don't run yourself ragged over the festive period!

NJAN - how is the pox now? Hope things are clearing up. Be kind to yourself over Christmas, please!

And you Trace! Thought P might get a tooth before Christmas but is O moving? Not on your life

Dear Urbaneski, it made me laugh that you opened your Secret Santa. Tsk tsk!

Sybs - thanks for your lovely message. We aren't in the new house yet. I haven't been there for a couple of weeks as it's so far gone and makes me go all wobbly...

Pingu - I guess I will get DD done for SF...haven't had a letter about it yet though.

Invis - hooray for your sis! That's lovely. We had a card from an old friend of DP's - we went to their wedding last January - and it contained a photo of them holding a very new baby! It was such a fab surprise.

Veggie - I am jealous of your mock lobster and prawns and madly curious. Let me know what they're like!

Spot - so sorry about the nursery. I know what writing a book with a nipper is like so sympathetic noises from me...

Kiwi - we are having a few separation anxiety issues here but it seems to be more of a power thing than an anxiety thing. But I don't want to moan about her, the dear little popppet.

Rubes - ferries - I used them when I was about seven months but check as you need to carry a note from your consultant by then but obviously you will be fine. I cannot tell you how excited I am for you but it does put the kibosh on our Reading drinks which we have to reorganise Oh, and mulled wine isn't very alcoholic as the alcohol burns off. So that can be your Christmas drink

JollyB - oh, your poor Mum. Ouch!

Mom - have a super time in Canada, my SIL is just back from skiing there...

Kayz - hope you aren't snowed in!

Summer - thanks for the pep talk the other night! I needed it Sounds like Cambridge is as snowy as Oxford.

JJ - watched the carols at Kings earlier, I thought of you...

Aubi, I haven't got two kids but I would think it's only natural to relate to them in different ways. You will still love them the same. And marzipan modelling, I am so impressed! I still laugh about the Russian Doll cake. Just brilliant.

Effie, I am horrified you had to work today! I hope you are now ensconced with cheerfulness and bad telly, as I am.

Daisy - I am really sorry about your MIL and I do so hope your DH is coping ok. Thinking of you all loads and I hope you still manage to have a nice day.

Where's ZJ? Hope she isn't snowed in.

Well, hope you all have a tremendous Christmas Eve. Hoping to go to Midnight Mass in the village later. MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LadyThompson · 24/12/2009 22:36

Ooops, I stand corrected! Thanks Kayz.

A very happy birthday indeed.

Kayzr · 24/12/2009 23:04

LadyT I love O's full name. I have recently fallen in love with Poppy and I adore Octavia as I love all Greek and Roman names. I really would love a girl so I could use one of the vast list I have in my diary.

LadyThompson · 24/12/2009 23:58

Oh, thank you very much. I know it's not to everyone's taste. If she'd been a boy she'd have had a Roman name as well as it happens. But DP has vetoed this particular now, should we have another child I do see his point. It was very hard to stop at just three names as I could easily have given her eight or ten.

Well, it's nearly Christmas so we'd better hurry to bed or Father Christmas won't come....

Veggiemincepie · 25/12/2009 06:02

Well now I'm in feeding DS2 some lovely mulled wine. He woke just as I was nearing the end of my 2nd glass.

Beans I've just had a thought your DH is going to be training in the all important couple of weeks after your new LO's birth apart from recovery that's when you need some exclusive time with him/her so he needs to be there foe DD! DH & I have like SL cut back our racing, DH actually took up fell racing as it took up less time training. But all that was never around any births. He is really being very selfish.

Daisy sorry about your mil your being very stoic but I think you need to...well have some mulled wine.

Who was that pure Adam women?

Sorry about your mums wrist JB ouch. And bad form by your local council kayz I think a stern letter is needed.

Well as before all bank holidays DH and I have done the usual last minute panic shop(s) and bought enough food to get us through several world wars. But I think we'll be ok, for chocolate anyway.

Merry Christmas and happy birthday to madam, baby bisou and Eddie!

Veggiemincepie · 25/12/2009 09:03

Ps the above should have been sentchristmas eve but didn't so sent it early this morning.

Hope your having a lovely christmas. I'm just putting DS2 down for a nap and watching the rain outside. We had fresh snow overnight but it's warmed a bit now and the rain is making it a but sludgy now.

Lady the alcohol only burns off if you boil it...believe me, two glasses and I was trollied lastnight.

urbanewarrior · 25/12/2009 09:24

Merry Christmas one and all. And especially happy Christmas birthdays to madam Edmund and Joshua. Hope you all have lovely days. Daisy am thinking of your family. Hope you get to visit and your MIL is bearing up.
Can I also second the sentiment about just how smashing we all are and how glad I am that I have you all to witter on to.
and now back to the inlaws... Am taking a leaf from daisy though and counting blessings rather than grinding teeth. In the main.

sybilfaulty · 25/12/2009 09:32

Veggie, I was impressed that you had not only started adhering to Christmas day rules so early, but also that you had got up and actually mulled some wine by 6.30am! Respect!

Merry Christmas dear girls and happy ones to our Christmas day babies R, J and E. Thinking of Daisy and everyone else who is having a difficult time. Love also to those who are missing their mums, dads, grandparents or other loved one.

Am so glad we are still going strong after nearly 2 years together. Testament to how wonderful we are . Have a lovely day and lots of love to you all.
