Welcome to our new thread .

Poppy - just got a text from Sponge to say that she has flu... unbelievable. I imagine she will pop along here shortly to tell everyone about the lurgy herself. Agree that 4251 is the best, but it looks quite posed, looking over one shoulder (it's the tickling that did it)

poppy34 · 12/11/2009 19:50

Poorold sponge. I thought it looked lovely as great smile

poppy34 · 12/11/2009 20:02

Today is offcially rubbish as just slipped over on hard stone floor banging my elbow and back hard- felt like crying .. Red wine and olives out now and going to watch true blood- tomorrow is
another day to quote scarlet o hara.

Essie3 · 12/11/2009 20:34

Poppy I think you need lots of cotton wool and special treatment - but hey, the day is nearly over so nothing worse can happen. Lots of love, thinking of you.

Spider I actually really like 4249 but you wouldn't want it as your main photo in your living room. I like it because it shows P all curious and his hair is beautiful. But, er, I know he's not looking at the camera! Also I thought the colour ones were lovely.

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2009 20:44

Ouch poppy!

Have new iPhone to play with so am very distracted by my new toy, will catch up with y'all later!

abdnhiker · 12/11/2009 21:16

spider not sure if I'd go for 4251 - I agree with Essie that 4249 is the best shot but probably not enough of P's face... but I'm not a fan of posed photos. I feel like they don't really look like my boys compared to our home shots.

poppy you definitely need wine and olives. Fingers crossed for a much better day tomorrow. It sounds like your nanny is a bit naive, sorry you're having to deal with it at the moment since it's both a major hassle and bad timing emotionally.

SpiderWilliam · 12/11/2009 22:18

Good feedback guys, thanks. I like the one in profile too. I now have an idea...

Snap Poppy, I tripped on the stairs today and banged my knee. I was nearly crying and then P came and hugged my legs. He cheered me up even though he was probably doing it for attention. Still got a bump on my knee though. It really hurts.

ktpie · 13/11/2009 10:35

Just a quick hello as I can hear J stirring and we are going out in a bit for lunch.

Poppy - hope you have a better day today and aren't too bruised.

Spider - I agree that 4251 and 4249 are the best. We've never had any "proper" photos taken of J but we did splash out on rather a fancy camera just after he was born!

How's the iphone going BDQ? DH's friend came over with his new one the other day, he wasn't an apple fan before but was raving about it.

Better go and get ready!

Essie3 · 13/11/2009 10:46

Hi all, horrible day here (weather wise - everything else fine! ) and my trip to Cambridge has been postponed. But it would have been pretty awful as Iestyn would have been all steamed up in his buggy with the rain cover on it!

Not much to report really but had a lovely day yesterday meeting some mumsnet folks and heading back to Anglesey tomorrow.

Gosh, what a boring post. Poppy hope today is better, and I hope that both you and Spider recover from your bruising. Hello to everyone else as well - it's ever so quiet here!

whinegums · 13/11/2009 11:19

Oh Poppy, have an unmumsnetty hug for having such a crappy week. And Spider. And Sponge. And everyone else in fact.

BDQ - I WANT AN IPHONE! I was waiting to see if Orange or Vodafone come up with better deals, but it doesn't look like it. I shall sort it after Christmas...

DP has just called to say our lawyer has been in touch - all money transferred and WE HAVE A HOUSE!!!! What a sop, I'm almost crying as I type! I'm just about to do a supermarket sweep around Tesco of essentials for the place and then go and pick the keys up. Woooohoooooo. We're getting sky etc fitted on Tues so will be relying on my dongle til then, but it's been radio silence from me for so long, you won't miss me anyway!

PiggyPenguin · 13/11/2009 12:42

Poppy, what a crappy week. Hope it picks up for you soon.

Whinegums congratulations! how exciting.

J is having a non-eating phase again. Its so frustrating as he was starting to get a lot better, then we went on holiday and now its all tits-up again. He is basically refusing to eat pretty much everything except for his standard cheese on tomato puree on toast for lunch, and today he has turned his nose up at even that. I know he is playing me, as he wouldn't eat any breakfast but when we went to school this morning I gave him a chocolate brioche to hold so he wouldn't try to drag the rain cover off and he ate it all. It must be because I just gave it to him and then ignored him, but he won't do that if we are in the house together. I have thrown so much stuff away this week it is really galling.

AND breathe... sorry, sorry, such a rant. You would have thought I'd have learnt by now to just let it blow over me.

Essie3 · 13/11/2009 13:05

Sybil much sympathy. No advice - Iestyn would only eat bread (no crusts) and baby bel for lunch. (He used to be a great eater, everything and anything, but now he's more independent - won't eat jarred food, and also doesn't eat as much as he used to, but he still seems to like most food - there's no pattern in his spitting out/rejecting, one day he will eat rice and chicken, the next he won't. Obviously he doesn't get the same food every day, it was just a turn of phrase! ) I find that the eating is the one that really stresses me out - no idea why but it makes me feel like such a failure. But it's not us, it's them, IYKWIM. The throwing food away is also galling, I agree.

I was a child who wouldn't eat. Nothing at all. Mealtimes were such a battle. But oddly, I don't ever remember being hungry at any point as a child - I just hated eating. Weird. I've also been pretty healthy and suffered no ill effects!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 13/11/2009 13:24

Essie My dd2 is still like your ds. One day a meal can be the best dinner ever, the exact same meal a few days later will be called disgusting! I have stopped trying to please her! DS will eat and enjoy anything, DD1 will eat anything but complain the whole time if she doesn't like it whereas DD2 will just not eat if she doesn't like what she's given.

Whinegums Fab news re the house!

BDQ Very of your iphone. I really wanted one but couldn't justify the cost so have just got a blackberry which is proving to be quite complicated!

spider I like 4251 as you can see him clearly and he looks so happy but the other one where he is looking to the side looks lovely and natural. The prints seem to be a good price.

Poppy really rubbish about the nanny and you fall over too. Hope today is better.

DS is doing the Boden shoot with DD1 tommorow so it will be interesting to see how he performs. I think they will also trim his hair a bit because if I brush it the right way he has a bob with a fringe - I always like getting things for free but will be hovering and repeating 'not to short' over and over!

neenz · 13/11/2009 13:59

Going, have fun at the shoot - it is very exciting.

Poppy, I can imagine your feelings re the nanny, and agree she sounds very naive, what did she mean by will you stay at home, that she thinks you should or that you won't be able to find anyone as good as her to look after E? ttc is crap isn't it (((((hug))))
(That's the first time I have ever done that )

I have been asked to go and see the GP after my blood tests so it must have shown something abnormal. Don't want to get PG this month anyway because just want to enjoy Christmas now, so it's bound to happen . My luteal phase was 12 days last month so it is up from 10 days but still not sure whether that is long enough. People do get PG with an LP of 12 days but perhaps it takes a bit longer cos not only do you have to have conception but it has to get the womb quick enough to stop the lining breaking down .

Whinegums, so exciting about the new house! Hope the move goes well.

Spider, I think those pics of P are lovely. I'd go for 4251 too.

Sybil, sympathies with the food thing, I used to get so wound up about food because I thought if they didn't eat they wouldn't sleep, but now they seem to sleep well no matter what so I don't really mind what/how much they eat. It's easy to say just don;t make a big deal of it but at least if you don;t react you can rule that out as a reason for him not eating iyswim. I just give the DTs a full bowl, if they eat it, great, if they don't, that's fine too. It's not much to throw away even if they don't eat it. He will eat when he is hungry. Is there anything he will always eat, like yogurt or toast?

Essie, I never ate much as a kid either, only vegemite sandwiches . I was so skinny I actually collapsed when I was 7 because I was malnourished. My mum thought I was messing around because I wouldn't get up off the floor. I did manage to stand up eventually and she even made me go swimming but soon believed me when I had to rescued from the pool . That's the life of a No.3 child!

PiggyPenguin · 13/11/2009 14:26

Neenz your no.3 child story made me laugh! My life was a bit like that too, as a no.6 child my mum and dad were very stretched and very matter-of-fact. If I was feeling unwell I had to be actually sick or have over 101 on the thermometer to get a day off school! My brothers were monkeys at trying to get sickies though so I think they had just got very matter-of-fact about it!

Thanks for the support over J though, I know I have to just chill out and let it go but he drives me nuts with it!

SpiderWilliam · 13/11/2009 17:15

Grim day here. DH and I were both feeling a bit sick yesterday evening. He ended up being ill all night, I just carried on feeling queasy and achy. Hopefully it is just a 24 hour sickness bug and tomorrow he will be on the mend. I am better than I was, but has the healthiest adult in the house I am in charge of P (who is full of beans and very lovely).

Is it ever going to stop raining?

Sybil that sounds so frustrating about the food. P's Achilles heel is sleeping, it is just so difficult when you can't influence what they want to do.

Neenz LOL at the third child story.

Whinegums enjoy your first night in your new home. You must be so happy.

BDQ I have been pestering for an iphone too. I have an ipod touch which is good, but doesn't have a camera on it (or the phone bit obviously). Last week my old mobile died and I still have 6 months left on the contract. So, I had to buy an unlocked handset. DH "decided" that I should have a Nokia which does all the stuff that an iphone does. It is alright, but sadly not as good in terms of user experience as an iphone. The bonus is that it is pink, just like my laptop.

abdnhiker · 13/11/2009 18:20

quick note to say congratulations to whinegums

bitofadramaqueen · 13/11/2009 19:19

Evening all. Sorry you've been poorly spider. The rule in this house if we're both ill is that whoever gets ill first gets dibs on being poorly!

My iPhone is luvvverly thank you all. Have been waiting for months for my contract to end so I could upgrade. Have only really sorted out the basics (the stuff my iPod touch already does) so hours of entertainment yet to come! I'm a bit sad and love the fact I can have all my contact details in one place etc so will no doubt spend hours doing that. It's a step on from stationery porn I think!

whinegums I heard from a reliable source that Orange and O2 have a contract with apple which means no price war for the time being. I pre-registered with orange and the phone costs/tariff's were pretty similar so I just went with the easy option and stuck with O2. Cheap broadband with them too.

Whinegums fab news on the house, can't wait till you're all settled and I can come for a nosy .

Right must go eat. S in bed but DH is away so have to fend for myself tonight.

Hello to everyone else!

SpiderWilliam · 13/11/2009 20:40

I got a text from Sponge earlier to say that she has been in bed all day and had the GP out to see her. It is definitely flu apparently. So not what she needs at the moment.

neenz · 14/11/2009 10:11

Poor Sponge - hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Hope you haven't come down with that bug as well Spider, being ill is no fun when you have kids to look after . When I was tired and hungover after Beyonce I was so glad I was going to work not looking after DTs!

I felt pretty rough yesterday too, still tired from Beyonce I think... I am getting too old for mid-week drinking! I just had that watery taste in my mouth you get when you're about to vomit, and felt very tired. It's funny though as soon as it got to 7pm and I'd bathed the kids I felt loads better - cos I knew my work for the day was done. The thought of having to do tea/bath etc (on my own too) was making me feel worse. PILs were babysitting last night, we went out for a friend's birthday, and they offered to have them at their house . So we got a nice lie-in and still haven't been to pick them up . Going getting them at 11pm . I feel much better today which is as I drank loads last night - at one point I felt really drunk/whoozy so had to stop drinking . How bad is that . But we ate late after 10pm. At least these days I can see when I need to stop, when I was younger I would have just moved on to vodka!

spongebrainbigpants · 14/11/2009 20:14

Hi guys, quick post cos still feeling pretty crap although looks like it's not flu after all but a viral infection - still have nasty chest pains which are unpleasant.

Thanks for all your kind words of support about A - will try and speak to the nursery next week but am trying not to worry about it .

Hope you're all well x

OP posts:
ktpie · 14/11/2009 21:04

Where is everyone today?

Neenz - sounds like you have been having fun!

Sponge - get well soon, how rubbish getting the flu, hope it's not swine flu.

Spider - how have you been? Hope the sickness managed to miss you.

Goingto - how did the shoot go?

Whinegums - congratulations on the house! Great news.

Sybil - sympathies on the eating problems.

Hello to everyone else.

We have had a boring day here, DH went out cycling and I sat around feeling sorry for myself, have a massive list of jobs that need doing but a big problem with finding any energy or enthusiasm. DH came home frozen from spending all day out in the middle of stormy weather in his lycra, serves him right for leaving us all day

ktpie · 14/11/2009 21:06

No posts for ages then I manage to cross post!

Sounds rough Sponge, chest pains sound awful, hope you get better soon.

SpiderWilliam · 14/11/2009 23:23

The Spider household much better today thank-you Ktpie. I avoided the sickness, and today DH woke up looking smiley and back to normal. Phew, I am a rubbish nurse. Hope your DH is around tomorrow to help with some of those jobs.

Sponge how horrible that you have chest pains. Hope you get well soon.

Did anyone watch Strictly tonight? Such a crazy episode without Bruce and poor Leila and Jade. Felt sorry for the person who went out (trying not to write a spoiler in case anyone will watch it later).

PiggyPenguin · 15/11/2009 15:09

Spider glad to hear you are feeling better, hope Sponge will be soon too.

Neenz, you also get sympathy even if your feeling rough was self-inflicted

I have spent most of today trying (with increasing levels of desperation) to buy go-go hamsters for dd for xmas. She announced today that she really wanted them so I popped online, only to find they are this years 'must have' toy and are sold out everywhere. Well, you can buy them for amazon for 45 quid, but given they should be around 10-15 I don't think we will be doing that. Following some mn advice i have resorted to ringing round all the sainsbury/tesco stores in a 15 mile radius. DH has just been sent off to find a store which is hopefully holding their last couple for us. Talk about trauma. She was practically crying when she thought Santa wasn't going to be able to get one for her.
