I've just had an insight inside ds's head....

DS thinks: hmm, now if i crawl under the table, I wonder if I can still stand up

DS thinks: ow! nope, that didn't work..maybe it will if i try again...

DS thinks: damn, still too tall. Maybe just one more go....

DS thinks: perhaps if i stand up reeeeally slowly....

DS sobs: mamamaaaaaaaa

poppysocks · 12/11/2009 09:10

So pleased to hear Seb settled himself and had a good night last night queen and that DP is on side. Onwards and upwards!

Pretty crappy night here with lots of low-level half asleep moaning from DD2. And I mean loads. I don't think she was ever actually awake and certainly not upset, but enough to keep me awake/dozing at most and wondering when she would wake up and demand attention. This morning she's almost entirely made of snot, poor lamb.

Was supposed to be having my hair done for the first time in months this afternoon, while the girls are at nursery, but reckoning that's now off....

poppysocks · 12/11/2009 09:13

Ah bless minimiamla! Here it's more of a 'but I could fit under here last week' with the dining room table. Nothing if not persistent.

oopsandbabycoconut · 12/11/2009 09:17

Well done Seb and yay for sleep Queenie. Pleased you got DP onside too I am sure he is feeling better at work today for a bit of adult time and sleep. Tonight may well be slightly worse as Seb will now realise what you are doing but stay strong and soon you will have only memories of what he was like.

We are off to see some photos of DD taken at the Children's Centre then to NCT tea this afternoon. DD is a little snotty but not too bad. DH has 'man flu' and had gone to work all pale and dosed up on nurofen. He grumbled as he left about not being very hungry but could I bring him a particular sarnie for lunch from the un-namable shop not allowed by MN.

oopsandbabycoconut · 12/11/2009 09:19

Poor t - DD not comes out from under any table saying 'head, head, head' then bumps her head

QueenofDreams · 12/11/2009 09:21

red I am quite happy about it. I just feel very tired for some reason Strange considering that I wasn't kept awake by baby, then have a few hours bad sleep being pushed out of bed. I think it's because we ended up having dinner after 11 last night so were quite late to bed. Had a very nervous moment when we went up to bed, as I popped into Seb's room to put his covers on again. He didn't wake though (phew)
Really REALLY need to get some metanium today. Nappy rash is hideous this morning. Had his nappy off for a little while, but I think he was cold as he's much happier dressed now.

red hope your little one is feeling ok now.
hots I too am intrigued by the travelling underwear.

QueenofDreams · 12/11/2009 09:28

I didn't notice there were posts on page 17 d'oh
Bless miamla couldn't help laughing a bit though We don't have that issue here - we just have the trapped fingers in cupboard door situation described by VG(?) a while back.
And he's just taken an unsupported step again. I think he's having trouble figuring out what he's supposed to do next as he stands there for a while then laughs and throws himself at me.

cyteen · 12/11/2009 09:38

poppy DS has been just the same the last two or three nights, moaning and muttering and full of snot. He's got a barking cough as well, but otherwise seems full of mischief okay. He's started doing that throwing-himself-to-the-floor tantrumming when stopped from doing something dangerous or eating something poisonous, it is quite funny

Queenie I am so proud of you, well done for staying strong. Firm, kind, consistent was what got us all into a sane routine. DS loves his sleep now and I am a more confident parent now that I know not every whimper needs attending to. Wishing you many stress-free evenings and deep, long sleeps

snotexpectingsnow · 12/11/2009 09:56

Yay Queenie and Seb. I normally find that if we've had bad nights from DS and then he sleeps through I'm more tired.

Hope everyone feeling a little better today as there seems to be so much sickness going around.

AF arrived today probably explaining yesterday's weepiness.

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY No.1 (hope I have that right)

dizzydixies · 12/11/2009 10:18

I thought it was No1's birthday tomorrow

snot unexplained weepiness is ok when related to Christmas and thoughts of home - getting your period is just a convenient excuse to throw into the pot as well am MORE than happy to pop over with piles of British chocs/sweeties etc On the hair front I have finally given up the fight against the frizz and embraced the 'curl' with some miracle stuff by Aussie hair co which I shove in when its wet and leave it the hell alone - I think I've dried/straightened my hair once in the past 3yrs

Queenie well done, absolutely well done to both you and Kingie keep to it, this is just the start and for crying out loud get yourself a couple of early nights too - you're probably shattered because of the change in your sleep pattern too

poppy sorry you had a crappy night, hope you manage to get your hair done

miamla wee pudding, is it worrying that my DD2 still does that now - back to my blind problem, am needing the material and blinds done before MIL arrives back over in Dec

DD1 at school, then swimming then for a sleep over which was cancelled from last week due to her being ill. DD2 at playgroup and then CM with DD3 - have a whole day till 4pm which I could fill with housework/prep for tonight's meeting/food shopping or college work - however I am going to put on the heating, take some tablets and either cosey up on the couch or go back to bed [shameful lazy emoticon]

dizzydixies · 12/11/2009 10:25

red you are correct, am currently on the vaio right now! the other (original one) was an HP which is brilliant, this one is good too but according to my dbrother (who is an expert in all things computer - tis his job) when buying a laptop you should go for one made by manufacturers whose main focus is computer design - he was very when I told him we'd bought a vaio. We would have loved a macbook but budget would not stretch so far

any of those would meet with the Dixie brother approval here but I have to say I like both the HP and the vaio - the HP just slightly more though

TwilightSurfer · 12/11/2009 11:12

morning.

awesome news queenie.

snot we have matching cycles and matching hangovers....yet mine was sugar induced.

snoozed an extra hour so no shower before pilates. oh well the show must go on.

QueenofDreams · 12/11/2009 11:53

Oh and another bit of exciting news for me. Agency is putting my cv forward for a job starting in January. Trying not to get up too much hope, as experience so far tells me they will say I am 'overqualified' for the job in question. Trying not to get too excited so if I do get an interview I'll be happy, and if I don't I won't plummet to the depths of despair (if that makes sense?)

lwfhthevampireslayer · 12/11/2009 12:58

hello everyone,

sorry not to catch up properly but:

cyteen - I think that you really need to be pregnant in order to get your 200 pounds worth of dental treatment free

and

redlentil - my favourite of DH's million cousins claims that he knew che guevera as a young boy as they lived near each other. DH is a bit about this, but it could be true ...

PoinsettiaBouquets · 12/11/2009 13:30

Ooh Queenie good work all round then . Tonight you could do the hoovering when you put him down - he gets soothing white noise, you can't hear the wailing, you get clean floors.

Red Did you get a guitar in the end?

Enjoying some free time at my mum's while Kurt sleeps. Have done loads this morning, have busy logistics from 3.10 onwards. Go collect kids from my town, have tea in my mum's town, drive DD to Rainbows in my town (in rush hour), drive her back to my mum's town, drive to NCT meeting other side of my town, drive back to my mum's to sleep. This lack of kitchen isn't funny anymore.

poppysocks · 12/11/2009 16:59

Managed to get my hair done after a pretty good perk-up from DD2 - sounds rather like J at the mo, cyteen. In my soothed knackedness though I somehow consented to a fringe, which I now think was rather ill-advised. Haven't had one since 1995 and I think I now understand why. Oh well, it will grow out soon.

Productive morning on the quest for alternative childcare. Met the childminder who I already had lined up for DD1 for next academic year when we'd planned for her to go the the nursery at the primary school. She was lovely and it turns out a gorgeous little girl who used to go to nursery with DD1 also goes to her. I asked about other childminders and she said that, as far as she knows, with lots of recent retirements, there are only 3 childminders in the whole town! And she's the only one to cover DD1's school. Soooo pleased DD1 has her only place, albeit in 9 months.

She did tip me off to a new nursery though which is opening on Monday. I knocked on the door and met the manager who seemed lovely, it's really small (in terms of number of children they can take) so should be really personal and it's just over the road from their current nursery so a good location still. All good. Only hitch is that it would work out at about £80 per month more than where they are at the mo. On the one hand £80 isn't that much in such an already massive nursery bill and if it's better for the girls then... However, £80 is an awful lot on top of an already huge bill and would it be any better for the girls?? Decisions, decisions.

poppysocks · 12/11/2009 17:01

Sorry, that was very boring and me, me, me.

Hope you're not too frazzled by the end of today pb and you had a good rest dizzy.

Had a Starbucks gingerbread latte earlier. Don't, just don't. Yuk.

cyteen · 12/11/2009 17:13

poppy I misread that as 'the quest for alternative children' CM sounds good though, and I think considering the strength of your feelings towards the current nursery £80 doesn't sound too much...obviously JMO though. Having trust in your childcare is so important - I think I'd probably pay what it took to make sure we were all happy, albeit through slightly gritted teeth/tightened belt...

Off to collect my gorgeous boy in a minute, then home where I am going to do NOTHING! No worrying over work/uni/everything, no stressing about what I should be doing, just dinner and a movie and maybe even an early night.

QueenofDreams · 12/11/2009 17:18

Ah poppy hope things work out then. Can't advise though, as I have zero experience in these matters

bouquets don't have a hoover - wooden floors. Could maybe put the washing machine on though?

Hoping to still stand firm tonight. He has had two naps today for the first time in ages. now bouncing happily on me, and I'm about to go make his dinner. Really hoping I haven't let him sleep too much. Or maybe I'm just bloody overthinking all of this?
Poor boy was sitting on my lap earlier, and suddenly started wailing. couldn't figure out what the problem was, until I realised he was sitting on a nappy nippa (no idea how or why that was on my lap ) and as he had no nappy on at the time, it's no wonder he howled

dizzydixies · 12/11/2009 17:18

poppy glad you got your haircut and had some good results with the CM/nursery

am sitting here with pounding head and have been miserable all day when DH asked what was for the girls tea [brave or idiot emoticon] he has since made them scrambled eggs

now, onto serious issues - we have, ladies, a biter a terrible biter who has no problem in biting both her big sisters for no fecking good reason - what to do what to do what to do? haven't had a biter before so am clueless

QueenofDreams · 12/11/2009 17:21

dizzy can't advise, but I have a headbutter Dp's and my noses bear painful testiment to this.

dizzydixies · 12/11/2009 17:26

she does that too but its a throw back effort rather than headbutting iyswim? (may I remind you of the benefits of arnica?!)

how have the naps gone today, are you geared up for tonight? I have a meeting here at 7.30 but I'll check back on later to help you fight the good fight

miamla · 12/11/2009 17:32

dizz... ds started biting me and the only thing that stopped him was when i started to cry (i hadn't realised i was such a good actress!), this made ds cry and he hasn't bitten me since

dizzydixies · 12/11/2009 17:36

both dd1 and dd2 have cried in bucketloads to no avail, shall try it myself if she tries it on me though

miamla · 12/11/2009 17:40

actually, it didn't work when he bit my mum. she tried crying and he giggled at her whilst going in for a second taste of her arm!
