Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SilveryMoon · 31/01/2010 10:22

Oh no!!!! But whatever helps the poor little man.
Let us know what happens.

dinkystinky · 31/01/2010 14:20

Oh no MoS - poor H - that sounds really quite scary. Is it the same condition as DD2 had - is he on meds now? Thinking of you DH and H and sending him get better really soon vibes.

TulipsInTheRain · 31/01/2010 14:45

oh mos how horrid! poor H

SilveryMoon · 31/01/2010 16:33

I need some help with Luke and his sleeping.
The past couple of weeks, he has gotten into the habit of waking in the night at anytime really, really screaming! It can take hours to calm him, even if I give him a bottle (which I hate doing now during the night) he still won't settle.
He'll fall asleep in my arms, but when I go to put him down, he goes rigid and screams his head off.
he's now started doing it at nap times too so is only napping for about an hour or so in the pushchair
wtf can I do?
The past few nights I've been putting him in bed with me and I don't want to carry that on.
Any ideas?
I might also post on main board too

dinkystinky · 31/01/2010 18:05

SM - sounds like separation anxiety to me. Not much you can do to get him through it - but if he has a favourite toy/snuggly you could try putting that in the cot with him so he has a feeling of security via that when he wakes up. He's really screaming because he's tired and also missing you/DP. Other things you can do - sleep in with him (in same room but not in bed with him) so you can gradually withdraw from having to hold him to sleep - have a hot water bottle you can pop in the cot while he's out so he's not being put down from warm arms into a cold cot. Otherwise am afraid its just a case of riding it out. Remember this too will pass....

LittleMissNorty · 31/01/2010 18:11

Oh poor H MOS - thinking of you all x

I have a similar problem SM - E thrashes around the cot - its really horrible. I have no answers I'm araid.

I am really quite that he will be 1 on Tuesday.....I got out the babygro earlier that he came home from hospital in. I have bought a cake to take into nursery on Tuesday and one for us and another for Saturday when we are having a small family party

swampster · 31/01/2010 19:43

Mine almost never naps in the day. If he does he is in the buggy and it has to be moving - it stops, he wakes up. Or else he is in my arms, usually feeding as he naps. If I try putting him down so I can have a pee, he wakes up.

At night, he falls asleep feeding, on my lap or with me lying down next to him. If I'm lying down with him I invariably fall asleep too and have NO child free time at all all day which I find really tough. If he is on my lap and I try to put him down he usually wakes up.

He sleeps all night snuggled up to me. I love it BUT if I get out of bed for a pee or a drink of water or whatever, he wakes up and starts yelling...

Is it a phase? It has been a year now!

Popped onto the Feb 2010 thread to say hi today. Made me a bit teary.

swampster · 31/01/2010 19:44

Hope H is better soon MOS. It's horrid when they aren't well.

mumoverseas · 01/02/2010 06:17

morning all, sorry to read some of you having problems with LOs sleeping.
Swampy H is exactly the same (as was DD) I have to feed him to sleep and if I move the little monkey wakes. Sometimes I'm lying in a really uncomfortable position but dare not move or he will wake.

H was a bit better at the med centre yesterday pm but it seems he is better straight after the nebuliser but it wears off after an hour or so.
Thankfully a friend of mine (some of you may remember last year she was really 'funny' after her DH got promoted and got quite snotty until I had 'words' with her) offered to lend me a nebuliser that she'd bought when her DD was ill. The med centre tested it and (eventually) agreed to give me enough for three doses last night which meant I didn't have to keep dragging H and DD down the the med centre (15 mins walk each way so I got my exercise yesterday) He had doses at 8pm, 1am and 4am and I'm taking him back in a minute to be assessed. Hopefully they will give me some more solution to use at home as its wearing me out keep going down there.

I believe it is the atmosphere here. Talking to various friends LOADS of children (and adults) have been ill. We never had this where we used to live nearer town. We moved out here 3 years ago and are in the middle of the desert, near a sand refinery and a camel souk. Two of the nurses have implied this could be the problem.

Right, DH home to drive me to doctors. Catch up later

dinkystinky · 01/02/2010 09:18

MOS - hurrah for your friend lending you the nebuliser. Really hope H is on the mend today and you get some doses for him to use at home but you dont need to use them as he's all better.

Swampster - DS1 was like that until he was 5 months old. Some babies are more sensitive/high-need than others - sounds like little J is one of the high need ones who needs to have his mummy close to feel safe enough to drop off. It is just a phase - though a rather prolonged one in your case - and will pass though if you can bear it you could try doing some form of sleep training to get him to drop off without having to hae you there (what we ended up doing, very gently with DS1, involving swaddle and then shush patting - though he was alot younger than our boys are now).

dinkystinky · 01/02/2010 09:59

ugh, think am going to vom. The drains in the staff kitchen - next door to my room - have a SERIOUS issue today and so my office - and most of the floor - now smells of rotting food and garbage. Surely making us work in these conditions is against our basic human rights???

TulipsInTheRain · 01/02/2010 10:18

A is another night time nuisance. he genrrally wakes up 2/3 times before i go to bed at 12, and then whenever he wakes after that i drag him into my bed where he either sleeps peacefully or spends all night climbing around. if he's sick he has to be in my arms constantly, cannot be put down.

last night was bizarre though, he went down at 8, up again at 10, then again at 11.... and then slept til 6.20 unheard off and just proves my theory that he's not waking up just coz he hits light sleep but is in fact thirsty every time he wakes as he's clearly able to do long stretches.... he still can't drink from a cup so i'm his only source of liquids which makes me too guilty to try and get tough about the sleep as i can't do what i did with the other two and give him a sip of water when he wakes instead of a feed.

ds1 is down with the vomiting bug that was going around playschool, he's being a little trooper though and has two big tom cats snuggled up on him on the couch to cheer him up

SweetTalkinWoman · 01/02/2010 14:54

Aah TITR - hope DS is recovering with the help of the cats... and doesn't pass it on to anyone else!

MOS - sorry to hear about H, poor little chap. It does sound like it could be the atmosphere - not sure if it's applicable, but I think you can buy air purifiers that might help. Also for the coughing, we have a humidifier which seems to do wonders for Sam's cough, which seems to have lingered since he had bronchiolitis just before xmas.

Dinky - I got into the Wiggles when I used to visit my sister in the US years ago. Those guys are multi millionaires and have really hit the spot with the kiddies.

I've been trying to type a post all day and it's not working - too many interruptions at work. Keeping my head down and working my notice.... better go but will try harder to catch up tonight! Hope all well.

katieblirdsnest · 01/02/2010 17:13

ciao tutti, we had a flipping fantastic time in rome. a perfect mix of sightseeing, relaxing, eating, lying in and even managed to meet up with some old friends for lunch.

will try and catch up later but mos that sounds awful, i hope it goes ok later.

dinkystinky · 01/02/2010 17:17

Glad you had a great break KBN - very

Tulips - poor DS2. Hope he's feeling better now. Danny similarly rubbish at fluids during the day - even though I know the little monkey can drink from a sippy cup - so we have a similar issue...

littlesez · 02/02/2010 07:42

morning ladies! sounds like the babies are not sleeping well all round

SM all i can say it will pass hopefully izzy does the same thign i have put it down to separation anxiety and just try to make her feel secure. i sit with my hand through the cot although that doesnt always work sometimes she just gets in with us.

Izzy sleeps much better in our bed but we dont! kind of like it though all snuggled up but i like to sprawl out too so we do a bit of both. oooh i'm so glad im not the only one feeding to sleep

swampy she doesnt sleep much in the day I hate iwhen people say "REST WHEN THEY ARE SLEEPING" well I don't think it would be very smart to sleep and drive at the same time

MOS hows the wee one today poor chicken really hope he is better today xxxxxx

we had an A&E visit on Sunday here. I was forcing anti b's down all weekend and kept thinking how much she hated it and maybe it was disagreeing with her and she was trying to let e know I should have trusted my instincts because crazy rash, A&E, measles misdiagnosed, stopped anti b's, rash goes! back to docs, allergic to penicillin, I WAS BLOODY RIGHT! Poor thing they wanted to take blood yesterday to make sure so i refused had been there for 2 hours needed to go home.

we both needed a nap "im so tired i will lie in the middle of the floor at docs" and that was just me! so we crawled into bed and snoozed which was lovely

so hope everyone is well and not too sleep deprived! xxxx

SilveryMoon · 02/02/2010 08:19

littlesez Hope Izzy's ok now. There's definitely something in mothers instinct isn't there?

I had to feed Luke again last night. After trying to get him settled for 2 hours! He still woke after though.

dinkystinky · 02/02/2010 08:47

Danny was a nocturnal monkey too - awake - for no particular reason - having a party in his cot for 2 and a half hours last night then awake every other hour for half an hour. Sounds like most of our little ones are playing silly bubbas at night times - maybe they're all gearing up for their first birthday celebrations

Well done Littlesez for following your instincts and good you now know Izzy's allergy. Hope she's recovering well now and that you both get some sleep in soon.

MarkStretch · 02/02/2010 10:25

Hello Everyone!

Had a really quick skim through and LBB's words made me cry (that and the lack of sleep).

I honestly don't know how I would have got through pregnancy and delivery without you lot. You were my pillar of strength too.

Can't believe the babies are one! Happy Birthday to all those who's birthday's have happened so far. Frank's tomorrow and we have my mum, step-dad and Grandmother arriving today and staying with us for a few days.

We're not doing much for his birthday, mainly because DD will be at school all day and was distraught at the thought of missing anything so making him a big chocolate cake and just having people over for cups of tea. We've got him a ball to roll around the floor and some books we can read to him.

No announcement from me yet, but not from lack of trying

dinkystinky · 02/02/2010 10:29

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MINI-SWAMPSTER, LMN's LITTLE MAN AND MSLUCY'S STAN - hope all the little birthday fellas have a fab birthday today. Sending virtual champers to the mums and lots of virtual balloons and fairy cakes to the birthday bubbas.

Lovely to see you on Markstretch - hope you're keeping well. How is the lovely Frank doing?

TulipsInTheRain · 02/02/2010 11:27

Happy birthday to all the suddenly one year olds

gosh, this time last year i was sitting here being driven completyely bonkers by the never ending twinges and misery and feeling very everytime one of ye announced a new arrival

i think i'm in denial about him turning one though, he still looks like my tiny baby so i'm unwilling to aknowledge the fact that he's really a toddler now

on top of that afaic valentines day is the important anniversary as that was the day he left SCBU and i finally got to bring him home and introduce him to dd and ds1... everything before that was just awful

dinkystinky · 02/02/2010 12:09

Definitely celebrate on the 14th Tulips - I have to admit that we didnt celebrate on DS1's first birthday itself (as traumatic birth etc etc) but did a few days later - which coincided with the time DS1 and I finally made our escape from hospital...

Had DS1's first parent - teacher conference last night at his preschool. The teachers were very nice about him and it made me very happy to hear they think he's very bright and a lovely happy child - but they're also abit concerned about his speaking (speaks really fast, gets some sounds mixed up) so are going to speak to the SALT to see what we can do to help him sort it out. Its odd but it seems to be exactly the same issue DH had as a small child...

katieblirdsnest · 02/02/2010 13:10

happy birthday one year'ers. we've still got 3 weeks to go so seems some way off but all this talk of the birthdays is making me want to dash out and buy a cake immediately.

dinky the main thing is he's happy and doing well, if there is a problem at least they're noticing it early so hopefully he'll get lots of support.

I is so much better now, he was still suffering a bit from his d&v with my parents at the weekend but is back to being smily and mad again. also having a bit of problem with remembering to keep sleeping through the night but it seems to be hunger...making up for lost time or is there another growth spurt due around now?

sm i've just seen your message a few pages up. are you trying to reduce us all to tears?

LittleMissNorty · 02/02/2010 13:56

Hello everyone .....It may be Ewan's first birthday but the little bugger also had me up half the night for no apparent reason. Screaming in his cot and smiling when cuddled . Why does he do this on my work days!?

He's gone off to nursery with his "birthday boy" badge

This time last year I was holding a 6lb 13oz little bundle that was 4 hours old

Good to see you markstretch and happy birthday to Frank for tomorrow.....and for today to MsLucy and Swampster's LOs

Littlesez - I also believe in mothers instinct and hope Izzy is ok now.

Hope DS1 is sorted ok Dinky.....it reminds me that DSs hands and feet blistered a bit over the weekend in response to hand and foot prints being done at nursery so I've had to stop it - and I was exactly the same as a child.....funny little things they inherit isn't it?

right, back to work!!

SilveryMoon · 02/02/2010 14:45

tulips I remember everytime someone ha a baby I was yelling at my laptop "IT'S MY TURN!!!!"

Sorry to make you all cry Glad we all feel the same though
dinky Glad ds1 is doing well at pre-school.

I've just bought the party bag stuff for Luke's party on thursday. Tomorrow I'm buying the last of the food and sorting out everything.
Even Jacob knows it's Luke's birthday in a couple of days, he keeps giving him things and saying "hap birdday Lukey" is quite funny.
