KBN The boys were as good as gold. No whinging or crying or anything like that. Dp is amazed at the difference in behaviour of them for the both of us.
This morning, Jacob whinged for 3 hours solid. He stopped the minute dp cane out of the bedroom and told him to stop it and started the minute I walked back into living room.......

littlesez · 09/01/2010 22:39

SM my god a kidney infection, are you ok now?

thanks girls for sore cheeks suggestions, i went with nappy balm with chamomille and that did the trick

i neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed sleeeeeeeeep izzy has had a rough week and still not settling too well at night. She ending up in our bed last night and slept well from 3am til 8am which was what she needed but no good for my sleep!

xxx

SilveryMoon · 09/01/2010 22:46

littlesez I'm getting there.
Poor you and Izzy. Hope she has a better night tonight. How about trying to make a little 'nest' in the cot for her like some of us did when the babies were new? So she can be in the cot but still feel like she's being held?

mumoverseas · 10/01/2010 08:17

hello all, finally back in KSA after a very eventful journey. I was not on THAT Emirates flight but was on one at exactly the same time from Gatwick. Thanks for your kind thoughts and concerns, I feel so special
We had a nightmare at security. Flying via Dubai meant we were due to have 12 hours in Dubai so obviously took lots of milk and baby food for H. Security were even more anal than normal and opened a lot of it, including cartons of SMA which they don't normally open. Then one loon in security ran the changing bag through a special scanner as they were 'concerned at the amount of liquids we had' and then claimed our bag had traces of TNT! FFS, it was a changing bag, the most explosive thing that has ever been in it was one of H's dirty nappies! Bloody loons! Anyway, around an hour of fun and games with security and apparently we are on some sort of 'watchlist' for the next 3 months. Twunts. We had been planning a long trip to the states next year but no way I can tolerate all the stupid security. A friend has just come back from America and you are not allowed to go to the toilet the last 1 1/2 hours of the flight or have a blanket or cushion on your lap. Bloody ludicrous.

Anyway, back late last night and thank god DD at nursery this morning so I'm trying to get on with the packing.

Hope you are all and not snowed in as DS said that lots more snow due last night.

SM I hope you are feeling better now and am so sorry you were in hospital for your birthday, how crappy. I know what you mean about loons in the ward disturbing you. When I had my spinal surgery there was an old lady in the ward who was like that. The staff got so fed up with her constantly ringing her bell for them that they unplugged it so she was always shouting. Very unkind to treat her like that and very unfair on everyone else.

oooggs it obviously has been a very difficult decision for you and I totally understand how you feel torn. DC1 and 2 went to a lovely prep school and DC1 is now going to a very expensive 6th form and I feel that we should be saving so that DC2 and 4 can have the same opportunities. I was working almost full time when DC1 and 2 were young but now (as DH says) I sit on my arse all day (he has no idea how busy I am on MN) I feel guilty I didn't get too spend too much time with 1 and 2 but they did benefit from a lovely school, nice hols etc.
You've had some very good advice/support on here, particularly from SM who is wise beyond her young years

littlesez hope Izzy is a bit better now.

H shocked us last night by sleeping through til 5.45am mind you, he didn't go down until around 10pm by the time we got home.

Hope everyone else is ok x

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 08:43

mos Glad you got back ok, I mean apart from the security ordeal. FFS. What a joke.
(you called me wise it's only because when I felt guilty about having a second child, I had to talk some sense into myself, and where Jacob benefited from having 1 on 1 with me and lots of attention, Luke benefits from having an older sibling and play-mate sometimes)

We have a birthday party to go to today. I haven't been able to get a present yet because of the hospital stay so I'll have to try get down to tesco this morning and hope I find something there. I know my friend will understand if I can't get anything and she def won't be expecting anything, but even if I can only get a crappy colouring book and some crayons, it'll be better than nothing.
Still a bit of discomfort, but due more drugs in a couple of hours so fingers crossed it gets alot better today and the oral AB's start to work.

dinkystinky · 10/01/2010 09:53

SM - have you been on the oral ABs for over 24 hours now? They should be starting to have effect soon then - if they dont kick in today please get an emergency GP appointment tomorrow to see if you need different treatment. I remember all the problems you had when pregnant/just after birth with meds not working. Hope today is a better day with the boys.

MOS - ouch re your security shenanigans. I have to admit I always buy formula cartons/baby food airside at airports (and call ahead to the Boots there to check what they've got and reserve it) as, being brown, I've been stopped at security and searched more times than I care to count. My sister actually got strip searched when on internal flights in USA last year for no better reason than that she was a single asian female who flew in from the UK and had done two internal US flights to visit friends in the US. If you can avoid going to the US for a while I definitely would as the security there is going to be even more of a nightmare than usual - and this a country where for international flights it used to take well over an hour to clear passport control to get into the bloody country in the pre extra-security measure days....

LittleSez - I feel your pain. Danny had another rubbish night (but relatively speaking better than the night before) so was in bed with him from 2.30 to 5.30 wide awake but holding him so he could sleep. Thankfully DH took the boys this morning so I could get a couple of hours sleep in...

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 10:18

dinky No, It'll be 24 hours at 2pm, so hopefully today will be alot better.
Glad you got a couple of hours while dh had the boys.
I should really get on now and get everyone dressed!

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 10:24

What am I talking about......? Today 2pm will be 48 hours I've been on oral. It's ok at the mo, I just need to remember to take it easy for the next few days.
The doc said I have a condition that some think will leave me more likely to suffer Kidney infections. I have a duplex kidney (1 definite, the other possible) where there is an extra bit on the kidney. Apparently 1 in 500 people have it.
I also found out from a scan that my spleen is slightly enlarged and I've been told to follow that up with my gp.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 10:37

I'm also on Tramadol which I think is what's causing me to feel a bit out of it and feel like I've been drugged iykwim.

mumoverseas · 10/01/2010 12:57

SM I was on tramadol after my spinal surgery and seem to remember they were pretty strong and the 'bottle of red wine' effect. Like dinky says, if you are not feeling better you need to see your doctor asap.

dinky at being searched because of the colour of your skin. That is outrageous. Mind you, the americans are nuts when it comes to security. I remember when I went to New York around 6 years ago, I was getting the ferry across to Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty and the security was worse than at the airport. They had metal detectors etc and I set it off, no doubt due to the metal pins in my spine following my surgery. I explained that I had metal pins in my spine and the brain dead security guard's reply was 'can you take them out'?
My sarcastic reply was 'yes, if you have an orthopaedic surgeon on hand and 8 hours to spare as that is how long it took to put them in'. Funny thing, she wasn't amused

we sometimes get cross-examined due to the saudi visas in our passports and think it might be sensible to give it a miss this year

SnowTulips · 10/01/2010 13:08

dinky... american security are fools... i look quite mediterean when tanned and pre 9/11 they already treated me like an armed terrorist! my bags have been drugs tested, completely emptied and items individually scanned, i've been pulled aside for interrogation and been frisked... all while a teenager travelling with my parents!

although english security are quite funny too.... they see piercings and assume 'nutjob'... they tried to destroy my bag in heathrow as i accidentally walked off without it and by the time i wandered back to get it it was being shipped to the security centre for destruction. I also get unprecedented levals of frisking and scanning.

irish security are brilliant though, thy just take one look at the piercings and turn off the scanner so i don't set it off pmsl. although the sniffer dogs in dublin after my flight back from amsterdam were a bit worrying... i think they must have had colds though

Silvery... so sorry you're feeling rubbish... kidney infections are so horrible you have my utmost sympathy. ignore dp's huffing and try and rest as much as possible. i found the ABs took a few days to kick in when i had a bad kidney infection

mumoverseas · 10/01/2010 15:07

can't remember who it was who was 'talking' on here last week about nutjob posters but think Xenia came up. There is a classic Xenia comment on a thread in returning to work (really must learn to link but its about a city lawyer returning to work)
In one of her posts, Xenia basically refers to SAHMs as 'quasi prostitues' Well worth a read

SnowTulips · 10/01/2010 16:02

fuck.

my paypal account was hacked [shcok]

someone took a payment from someone thorough my account and then transferred it to an account... not mine sadly. paypal since refunded the person who payed as they were suspicious of the transaction and claim my account is a grand in the red.

fucking idiots! trying to get it sorted but lord knows whan it will be

swampster · 10/01/2010 16:16

How did they get in to your account?

Really hope you get it sorted.

SnowTulips · 10/01/2010 16:21

no idea... it was only by chance i went into my paypal account at all... normally i don't check it unless i'm selling stuff on ebay which i haven't for months but i was buying a tripp trapp for A and wanted to add my visa debit card.

Thank god i checked but it's all very weird so if i don't hear from paypal tomorrow i'm going to the cops about it.

oooggs · 10/01/2010 19:58

mos I am glad you are home and safe. Yes I have had some good sound advice. Luke is very different to the others - think staying home with him is going to be a doddle lots of fun

snowtulips - crap about paypal - I am just about to list one of my tripp trapp on ebay - gutted about it going but L has moved into one and dts are fighting about who sits or doesn't sit on the other one so I have made them foam booster cushions and the chair is going

swampster - hows things?

SM - glad you share your guilty advise with me

dinky & littlesez - hope Danny & Izzy both sleep better tonight

We had our 'Christmas' today with MIL - it was fab

Supposed to have an enslaught of snow tonight, dcs all asleep and dh just left for a 12 hr night shift - joy

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 20:10

OMG SnowT Hope you get it all sorted. I thought Paypal was supposed to be the safest way to buy/sell on-line. Dp has a paypal account which we haven't looked at in well over a year.
oooggs Good luck tonight. My dp is due to leave for work in about 20 mins.

oooggs · 10/01/2010 20:16

thanks silverymoon - when will your dh get home? Mine with be home at 7.50am just in time for a quick cuppa then the school run!

dinkystinky · 10/01/2010 20:18

Bloody hell Pink/Snowtulips - that is rubbish re Paypal. Really hope they get it sorted really quickly!
Also rubbish that you have trouble with security at airports too - honestly most security guards appear to be supreme numpties...

Oooggs - hope you get a good price for your tripp trapp. Glad you had a lovely second xmas- I want one. All the snow outside (most of which is disappearing around us) is making me feel very christmassy... Hope your DH gets back ok from his shift.

Silverymoon - hope you're feeling better soon.
MoS - will check out that thread. You guys mentioned here at the meal we had so cant wait to see her in action

Swampster - lovely to see you on.

katieblirdsnest · 10/01/2010 20:18

snowt that's awful, especially as it is touted as the secure way of making online payments. just keep on at them constantly.

mos i cannot believe your baby milk now means you're terrorists in the making. or perhaps it's h we need to be worried about. sorry it was shitty but really glad you weren't on that other flight and very happy you're home safe and sound. hope you and dh have a bit of normality and find some time to talk things through calmly.

sm hope you feel ok soon and remember the taking it easy advice! hopefully you won't worry about your housework for a little while?

dinky and littlesez hope you both get a bit of respite tonight.

one of ds' playmates has got chicken pox so i'm of course pouncing on every tiny mark to see if it looks like the onset.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 20:19

Oh dear. Mine will be back probably about 6ish, just as we're getting up, and then it'll be the mad dash to try to get out as early as possible.
His 12 hour night shift is a saturday night, but they finished early last night

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 20:23

KBN Come on, we've all 'known' each other now for well over a year, do you honestly think I won't do my housework?
I'm alot better today actually but am aware I need to take it slow the next few days

oooggs · 10/01/2010 20:24

SM - he has just (tonight) started a week of 12 hr nights. I don't mind this shift in preference to 12hr days (7.30am - 7.30pm) as doesn't see children at all unless they are up before 7am and 12 hr backs (midday - midnight).

At least on this shift he helps with school run and bedtime . 12 hr shifts is only for a couple more weeks then the submarine will be ready for sea and he can go back to normal shifts.

SilveryMoon · 10/01/2010 20:35

Ok. It's all good if that's how you prefer it. Personally, I hate the nightshifts and the effect it has on everything else. Plus if I was at school-run stage, I'd still have to do it all anyway

swampster · 10/01/2010 20:48

I'm here, just sitting quietly in the corner of the thread.
