Here we go again!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
swampster · 21/12/2009 13:08

LBB, I imagine you are too late for a pre-Christmas turkey delivery but if you get to the shops just before closing on Christmas Eve you'll probably be able to pick up a bargain turkey. Or else they might be sold out. Bit of a gamble.

I'm not keen on turkey so we always have something else. Goose, duck, chicken, one year it was a ginormous fish!

swampster · 21/12/2009 13:10

Won't be able to make a 4 Jan meet-up, it is DH's birthday. I imagine he'd be a bit put out.

littleboyblue · 21/12/2009 13:58

drinky hope your day is improving
swampy I don't like turkey. I'm not ordering in a shop, we're going to my mum's for a free feed

drinkystinkyuletidegubbins · 21/12/2009 14:25

Fair enough Swampster

MOS - happy to do meet up where most convenient for people.

mumoverseas · 21/12/2009 14:51

LBB thanks for the prod, have just ordered a HUGE tescos shop to be delivered a few hours after we get back. Fingers crossed planes will be landing at Gatwick that morning.

dinky would another evening suit more people so swampy might be able to get a late night pass? Think its LBBs birthday on the 7th? We go back pm on the 8th now we've changed our flights

WewishyouaNORTYxmas · 21/12/2009 16:20

Hi Guys

haven't been on in ages but have sort-of caught up.

You poor thing MOS with all the flight problems....I'd have been doing my nut. Glad you got them sorted - even if it did cost

Lovely about the secret Santa LBB

We've had lots of snow as well.....and I was one of those travelling to hospital on 2nd Feb for an elective CS hoping the staff would be able to get in.....and E was born at 9.34am.....where has the time gone? Spent 5 hours in the car on Friday trying to get to and from work. When I finally got there, I had a wee and turned around again. Woke up to yet more snow this morning.

Have been baking mince pies with DD this afternoon which was a fucking
nightmare fun. Nearly organised now and then I have MIL's arrival to look forward to on Thursday

Waiting from a phone call from DH summoning collection from the pub......he's been there since lunchtime and promised he wouldn't get pissed as he is working in the morning

littleboyblue · 21/12/2009 20:37

mos How the hell did you remember my birthday? You are right, I will be 28 on Jan 7th.
Re night out, I can't say yes or no until I know what dp's working.

mumoverseas · 22/12/2009 05:04

LBB 28! You are just a baby

katieblirdsnest · 22/12/2009 07:51

i'm up for the 4th or any other night that week.

the snow in feb i just remember tottering round like the oldest woman in town trailing about half a mile behind a very over excited dd. i wasn't due till the end of feb so didn't have any of the going into labour dramas.

yesterday my sister (who is over from thailand) kindly offered to get my dd from the house of sick and take her back to my parents in bucks so off they set at 5.30pm. and back they came again at about 10.15pm having got halfway into bucks, found the trains unable to go any further and my dad stuck in the snow so unable to get them from where they'd got to. luckily there was a train back to marylebone and then they got a taxi back to ours. apparently dd was brilliant the whole time but what an unbelievable waste of time for them!

has anyone been to see Where The Wild Things Are? dd loves the book (as do I) but i want to know whether the film might be a bit disturbing for a 4 year old.

2 more days at work...i can't wait to start christmas properly.

littleboyblue · 22/12/2009 08:44

mos lol, speaking of being a baby......the check-out woman in tesco yesterday (remember I'm there everyday so most of the staff recognise me) asked if Jacob was getting excited about xmas, me being me and over-verbalising everything, said no, he's still quite young and we haven't made a huge deal of it etc. She said, it is hard for you youngsters with babies isn't it? haha

Adding the finishing touches to our clay shapes today. I'll need a stiff drink tonight

TulipsAndTinsel · 22/12/2009 12:03

poor dd, he concert last night was cancelled. she was so excited and had learned all her ines and cried when she found out she's also missed the last two days of school as it was closed.

i'm doing my nut in, dp's gone to drop our friend to the bus now so fingers crossed they're actually running and he heads home, don't much fancy having him for christmas!

it's the first time in my life i've been wishing for snow to go away, i need to pick up a couple of bits of last minute stuff from the shops and don't fancy driving on this mess.

KBN... what a pain for your sister, bet your dd thought it was a great adventure though and at least you got a few hours of peace I've heard that where the wild things are is supposed to be pretty rubbish so you might be best waiting for the dvd.

re the snow, i didn't have snow but freakish ice the day i wne tinto labour... and hour and a half for my mother to get here while i sat very still and did the opposite of everything you're supposed to to progress labour and then an hours drive on sheet ice to get to hospital. the next morning when i was up in scbu with A it was even worse and the nurses were all coming in talking about car accidents and the car park being an ice rink

katieblirdsnest · 22/12/2009 16:17

your poor dd TandT...i'd be so gutted for her. she's had a hard time of it these last few months.

littleboyblue · 22/12/2009 18:07

Tulips for your dd. As kbn said, she hasn't had it easy has she? Poor thing.

Why is it, that when dp's in bed I at least try to control the children and successfully keep them out of is way, but when I have things to do, he does FA to keep them out of my hair. Twunt.

TulipsAndTinsel · 22/12/2009 18:36

lbb, sounds just like dp, he can't understand why i get so pissy about it

yeah, dd's had a shitty few months, we're planning on spoiling her rotten for christmas and her birthday, she's getting alot of things that i know will make her really happy for christmas and then for her birthday we're taking her to dublin to the zoo the weekend before and then a party with all of junior and senior infants on her birthday [eek!] i know 'things' can't make up for the leg and all the other stuff but at least it might cheer her up a little and she'll start he new year on a positive note.

mumoverseas · 23/12/2009 05:15

morning all
PT/TAT what a shame about the concert. Maybe the school will put it on in the new year as seems silly to not let them perform it now. Might be worth asking.
When is your DD's birthday? Close to Christmas by the sounds of it?

LBB do you REALLY need to ask? Very simple, he is MAN!

Hope everyone is ok and not too cold (20 degrees here)
Just off to make some (beef) sausage rolls. DH's last day at work here as our weekend luckily falls on Christmas eve and Christmas day when he would normally have to work. Only bugger is he has to work on my birthday so no breakfast in bed (not that he has ever done that anyway)

littleboyblue · 23/12/2009 10:50

Hello.
Got loads to do today.
Going to docs to see about a different form of birth control as I keep getting break-through bleeding on the pill.
Also need to speak to them about my ad's, they want to start weaning me off in feb but I'm on my last sleeve of tabs now, so need to get some more.

The mortgage will get paid this month, I just raided the boy's money boxes, took £70 and left an IOU
Plus I'm going to borrow some money d's uncle sent them, so that'll get us through until I can put it all back at end of Jan. Then that £70 is getting split and put in their CTF accounts.

TulipsAndTinsel · 23/12/2009 11:02

still snowed in here, going to attempt a drive to do some shopping today, apparently the road clears half way to ballyhaunis so if we can make it that far we'll be fine

mos, apparently they won't bother which is sad and ridiculous considering how excited the kids were. dd's birthday is the end of january but close enough to christmas that we've never really gotten over the financial strain of christmas by the time it arrives meaning the poor child has never had a party yet!

lbb, sound like you have it sorted, don't feel guilty about the kids money, they're too little to know and keeping yourselves afloat is more important than them having money saved

mumoverseas · 23/12/2009 11:27

PT that is bloody stupid the schools attitude to the concert. What was the point of the kids preparing for it then if they won't let them do it. Arses.

poor DD not having a party I have a December birthday and never had parties and its definitely damaged me (according to DH) He says I go too over the top now with our DC's parties.
I know how difficult it is though not long after Christmas, particularly when its cold. Can she not have just a few friends over for a party tea?

LBB like PT says, your DC are too young to know and you've left an IOU. CTF sounds like a good idea. We have just opened one for H, took forever to get the voucher through.

littleboyblue · 23/12/2009 11:29

Thabks TandT That's what I figured. No use having money saved or anything if you haven't got food on the table to keep you alive!
I'm making it all sound very dramatic hey?
Good luck with the shopping. We're venturing into town too, on the bus. Oh the joys

TulipsAndTinsel · 23/12/2009 11:31

when i ask her who she wants she lists 3/4 of both the junior and senior infants classes so i'll have to invite them all (18 kids) othewise it's not fair. i'm terrified at the mere thought of it!

mumoverseas · 23/12/2009 11:47

TAT oh yes, that causes problems. I was 'lucky' for DD's birthday in Oct as she hadn't moved to 'big' school like a lot of her friends so didn't have to invite the whole class but still ended up with about 20 from her nursery. Bloody difficult.
I was lucky with DC1 and 2 as their birthdays are June and July, much harder when they have winter birthdays.
Remind me, how old is she?

TulipsAndTinsel · 23/12/2009 12:00

she'll be 5 my baby is gone

SweetTalkinSanta · 23/12/2009 12:16

Hi Ladies - will try to catch up with you later today. Had a crappy couple of weeks - Sam has has bronchiolitis poor chap but I am totally out of control with missing work andChristmas shopping - aaarrrggghhh! Catch you later !

drinkystinkyuletidegubbins · 23/12/2009 12:20

Hi all. TAT- sorry to hear about DD's school and concert being cancelled (DS1 was in the same boat with his xmas party so know how desperately sad it makes them) - so rubbish that all her hard work has been for nothing- maybe you could get her to perform her piece for a special christmas day thing (make a big deal of it) and record it on your phone for her? Sounds like she's going to have a fab xmas and birthday hoopla

KBN - at your sister and DD's trip though thank god they didnt get stranded in the snow somewhere. Hope you're coping ok with poorly little I and he's responding to his meds and will be all better for xmas - and that work isnt too hectic in the run up to xmas. Soooooooo glad am on holiday - a colleague had to cover me on a deal I was on yesterday and went up to Birmingham for a signing meeting which still hasnt finished some 30 hours later...

MoS - hope your sausage rolls turn out ok.

LBB - its not like the boys are going to need the money right now (in fact, they'd probably eat or destroy it if you offered it to them...) so i think its fine to borrow from them for now - particularly if it avoids financial difficulties for you guys over a notoriously lean time of the year.

Am at my parents for xmas - Danny's sleep now non-existent (got 2 hours sleep the night before last and all of 1 1/2 hours sleep last night - and that was with DH and me tag teaming it so we both at least got some sleep) and he's truly miserable and very unDannylike at the moment (food is ignored, milk taken at a push, no crawling or standing or investigating - just wants to be held 24/7, no protesting at nose cleaning etc) so keeping everything crossed he feels better by xmas. I can feel one tooth has cut through so only another 5 or so of the buggers to go and hopefully he'll be happier for a bit... The internet connection is abit rubbish here so may not get on much before the big day so wishing all of you and your loved ones a happy - and healthy - xmas in case I dont get on again before then...

katieblirdsnest · 23/12/2009 15:24

I'm just about to leave the office...hurrah! I've actually got butterflies of excitement. Am I really 40?

drinky so sorry about danny. hope he feels better and you get some sleep. that really is torture.

good luck with all other sickly babies and last minute christmas shopping etc.

happy, happy christmas everyone.
