I mean spartacus obv. Aren't even going to bother correcting the (no doubt) many other errors. Wish there was a spell check on here to keep a handle on my fast, sloppy typing

muddledpumpkin · 30/10/2009 08:25

Ok Dandy I've submitted!!

Fi hope you feel better this morning. Jenn hope your dc are feeling better.

I started weaning ds2 yesterday - he seems to quite enjoy it. I don't know if it's given him super strength or what but he managed to throw himself out of his bumbo this morning

I'm agree with those saying the dh/dp's who don't think. I'm cross with Dh as he never puts the rubbish out. He spent the time he could have done it this am trying to teach ds1 to use the computer. Ds1 has managed to change every setting and requires help all the time

Sorry about the me me me post!

GHOSTLYPRessenceofSES · 30/10/2009 09:50

muddledpumpkin - love the name

Quiet on here this morning. Is the layout putting us all off?!

Toffeeapplemmum · 30/10/2009 10:21

Morning all. Just had a moment. I was on the computer (on Farmville ) with DS crawling around the lounge, and DDs just gone to the park with a friend, when I thought "it's a bit quiet" so went to investigate to find DS1 on the door step about to fall down the step onto the drive. DDs had obviously not closed the door properly ! Will have to baby proof the house some more this weekend, but thank goodness the stair gates are on. Whoops !

Jenn hope your DC are feeling better

Muddled love the name

Dandy at magical sleeping babies at night. But I can't complain because G does go to bed at 6.30pm, and manages some sleeps in the day, so it's all swings and roundabouts I suppose.

I'm not going to even go there on crap DHs as mine is a particularly poor example when it comes to actually noticing what needs doing with regard to the DC and the house, and it makes me cross even thinking about it !

EtherealFiByTheSea · 30/10/2009 10:55

morning.. spent all night waking up coughing & trying not to wake G while I did so feeling bit washed out today. on the plus side my throat isn't as sore so the ice cream treatment seems to have helped

love the name change muddled

momi you won't like this.. but if i see something i really want on ebay i boot up the laptop, enter my absolute top max bid in the box then I wait until there's 25seconds to go before pressing bid and confirm.. this way i come in at the last few seconds. benefits are you don't give anyone any chance to bid again but drawback is if my max isn't high enough I don't have time to bid again myself.. takes nerves of steel to wait until the last gasp to hit bid. Remember when you enter a max bid it doesn't mean you'll be paying that amount.. very often it's less depending on the amount of other bidders.

OP posts:
EtherealFiByTheSea · 30/10/2009 11:12

I've not bid on any clothes for G or ds for a while though so it wasn't me the other day

*tummum at your escapologist! unfortunately fv doesn't work on my phone.. i've been tempted to boot up the laptop though.

Quiet day for us here today, I'm saving all the Pumpkins until DP gets in later so we can all do them together. Will walk up to the library with the DC later, but for now were just going to have a lazy day, so I can catch up with my washing and cleaning, cooking J's next batch of food to blitz up into puree's for him and watch a couple of programmes I've sky+'d lol and rearrange the playroom with DD, so we can get the messy play out
My sister just popped in on her way to meet a friend, so that was nice, anyways, back to my day...have a good day everyone

Jael X

pulapumpkin · 30/10/2009 12:54

Jael- your quiet/lazy day sounds very busy and productive to me . My quiet day so far has been stay in bed til 9am (I was shattered so DH let me lie in), put DS2 down for a nap at 9.30 (he slept til 11.30), let DD and DS1 play in their PJs (only just got them dressed ). It will get busier later though as DD has a friend to stay over tonight. So far i am yet to make any purees and am just using jars and yogurts. Just haven't had the time (too much mumsnetting to do ).

HeebieJeebieReeBee · 30/10/2009 13:01

hello ladies

Just a quick break from packing... I've done everything out of the sideboard, hurrah hurrah hurrah. And have made a good start on F's room.

Great name change, muddled crap DHs - I think it's pretty much endemic. Maybe we should create some kind of life coaching course for them so they are able to, for example, dress the baby as well as 'looking after them', put things in the dishwasher while cooking dinner (actually, come to think of it, there might need to be a prep course called 'Cooking dinner'), removing empty loo roll holders and putting them in the bin... I could go on (and, DH assures me, I frequently do!)

Tummum at your adventurous baby - F struggles to do more than roll over still!

Jael sounds like a lovely day.

Fi poor you, DH has had something similar and he's still wiped out. You must be exhausted.

Grumpy you ok?

HeebieJeebieReeBee · 30/10/2009 13:03

Pula - x posts - have no idea how you cope with three, I've spent much of my morning trying to get F to sleep and struggling with just that.

flippineckitsabitspooky · 30/10/2009 13:51

Hello all!

Sorry, no name checking, am typing one handed!

Quick boast - I think A is going to crawl soon! I keep finding her on her hands and knees rocking forwards, iyswim! Sorry to sound so excited about this, DD1 never crawled so this bit is all new to me.

Back later, too slow too type any more. Hope all ok!

Monstermomi · 30/10/2009 13:53

Hi all. just MNetting before I tidy up in the hour or so I have to myself. DD1 is watching dvd having quiet time reading, dd2 is napping (though she's giving warning signs of dropping the daytime nap ), Harper is also asleep.

i took all three out with the dog this morning to the park. it is really hard work and my back is aching from picking up toddlers from swings, etc whilst having baby slung on the front of me. it had to be done though, poor pup didn't get a walk this morning as DH got up 'late' (6am).

i don't mind too much as we all feel better when we've been out. also, I've pushed H's milk feed to 1130ish and she seems ok so I'm not so tied up in the morning.

still haven't sent my reply to the Boss. my employment law friend thought I should reply professionally but let her know that I disagree/am disappointed by her reply, etc. and defn to keep all correspondence. ie, everything you've all advised as well, my intelligent mn mates .

I've written an email but just need to tweak it and send away.

I've also thought: if she were insinuating that I can't handle the hours with a young family, then she would embrace my request to job share or even reduce hours....surely the family-friendly parent-coddling charity that employs me would be happy to support my request?

we'll see.

how is everyone today? Fi, I must admit I do put last-second bids on things I really want or am free when the bidding ends. I figure if people do it to me, I shouldn't be condemned for doing the same. right? dandy, would have loved to send such an email but i'm usually all talk and hot air, then I let out steam: sssssssss and back to the calm, cool, collected momi that I am .

ree, like the life-coaching course for dH's - please sign mine up . when is the actual move?

jael, like the sound of your 'lazy' day .

pula, what a treat to lie in till 9! your lovely DH... you don't need to sign him up to many life-coaching classes.

tumm, time to baby proof! what a lot of fun! I still have to find a safer place for our soaps, detergents, dishwash tabs, etc.

hope all others are having a good day.

GHOSTLYPRessenceofSES · 30/10/2009 14:27

T'mum - what a shock!

Flippin - another crawler (well it sounds like she practically is!)

momi - I can imagine that the reply is quite difficult. Good luck.
I've got a form to fill in to request flexible working as I'm asking to go back 3 days a week to the same job. Must fill it in.

ReeBee - I definitely need a place on that course for my DH!!

Pula - maybe your DH could teach some of the classes??!

I've just arranged to go and visit a nursery on Monday morning. If work agree to my suggestions, O will be going 2 full days a week. Does anyone with experience of these things have any tips for what I should look for or questions to ask?

I'm also planning on taking O swimming for the first time tomorrow afternoon. You may remember I have absolutely no confidence in the water and in fact as a child, I used to have recurring nightmares about swimming/drowning. I do not want O to feel the same so feel I have to go. Fortunately my cousin is coming with us.

VampyJenn · 30/10/2009 14:56

ses tips about nursery or work? Nursery I would say, look for happy smiling children. Find out about communication between them and you regarding baby. If you are doing baby led weaning ask if they've heard of it and perhaps take a print out describing it, would it be a problem etc. Are you using real nappies? Would that be a problem for them? I would suggest if it is then find out why? Ermmmmmm. I'm sure more organised less chaotic mothers will have a better list for you. Good luck with your 2 day request.

FrightNightFebes · 30/10/2009 15:24

Afternoon all,

R just down for his afternoon nap and DD is playing really nicely with her toys so I thought I'd pop on to check what you guys are up to.

Pula It sounds like S is really coming along with his sleeping. It gives me hope!!

Ses O sounds similar to R with his sleeping at the moment. Down at 7 then feed at 10, 1,3,5,7. I guess they will get there in the end- It makes me realise how lucky I was with DD. RE Nursery. Look for cleanliness, if the babies are happy, what their daily plan is, how friendly the staff are, see if you can speak to another parent. I was happy with the nursery I sent DD to while I was waiting for a spot with the CM I wanted. They gave a daily report card with food eaten, poos and wees and anything that happened in the day. It was good to have it written down to take with me. I found DD was SHATTERED at the end of the day at nursery so she normally had to go straight to bed when we got home.

Momi People still call DD a 'he' even when she is pinked out and now has a pretty bob hair do .

Better go DD is getting bored now. I'm going to build some towers with her.

Hi to everyone else.

Monstermomi · 30/10/2009 15:26

goodness! my last post was quite lengthy.

ses, nursery: what vampy said and also ask about what is provided (eg some nurseries actually provide nappies), where do they nap, do they fill out a book of what they did to review with you at the end of the day, do you get holiday discounts, and that's all I can think of now.

am ignoring children for the moment. Quiet time lasted about 30 minutes as dd1 decided she'd rather climb on me than watch telly. I'm craving Me time now. can't wait for the magical bedtime hour. anyone else?

VampyJenn · 30/10/2009 15:35

Children are ok today. DS not been sick since wednesday night, but then it had been 60 hours since last time so that means nothing. Have taken my samples of dd2 and ds to Drs... Made 2 cakes this morning.

VampyJenn · 30/10/2009 15:44

ses and it doesn't matter how good they are at sleeping at home, they might not sleep at all at first, and then not nearly as long or as frequently as you would like.

Toffeeapplemmum · 30/10/2009 15:52

Jenn glad DC are better and keeping fingers crossed that it lasts.

Ses my advice is to ask about staff turnover. IME the DC bond with the staff, and if they are always changing it is difficult for the DC and also shows there might be something wrong with the nursery itself.

Momi normally I crave that me time from about 8.30am onwards, and get really grumpy if the DC play up at bedtime because I just want some peace and quiet !

ILs are on their way. They are 4 hours late and didn't bother to ring and tell us, so DDs are bouncing off the walls, asking every 10 minutes where they are. Sigh. Roll on Monday morning !

Febes at sleeping times. You must be shattered. I loved SIL painting, BTW. Bought it for my DBs birthday, but haven't seen him yet to be able to give it to him

Flippin impressive crawling skills. It is very cute to see them moving where they want to. G has just been in the fridge as I (stupidly) left the door open whilst I was making a sandwich. So far my experiences of boys is very different to looking after girls. He's grisling now, so going to put him to sleep for a before all hell lets -loose-- the ILs arrives.

Hope Sausage is having a lovely time and not getting too stressed

Also hope grumps is doing OK, bit worried about her FB update

GHOSTLYPRessenceofSES · 30/10/2009 15:53

Thanks all, that's useful. ( Jenn it was re nursery I was asking!)
If I'm still BFing then, would I need to leave just 1 bottle of EBM? May need to be 2 as frozen quantities I have are roughly 3 to 3.5oz. Should I ask them about that?

I'm still trying to get O asleep for his afternoon nap. Have been trying without feeding to sleep for half an hour but given up now and feeding.

VampyJenn · 30/10/2009 16:06

ses it depends on how long o will be at nursery for, and how old he will be. The smaller the portions, the more flexibility, but you need to guide them. I was very much a 'wait and see use your judgement' type of person, but that isn't very helpful to them, especially as they haven't had 6-9 months to bond and respond to lo's every need. I think ds had 2 ebm drinks a day at 9 months. He had it in a sippy cup.

Jael · 30/10/2009 16:08

Pula I'm still having to use some jars when I'm out, as some places that we go to eat that aren't baby friendly won't reheat homemade puree's, the only restaurants that I know we are safe in are the ones that have a microwave that parents can use. I love doing all the pureeing, to be honest DP does 90% of it, as he does it while he's cooking the evening meal

I must have a very good DP, I very rarely have to tell him what to do. He does all the cooking in our household and all of the ironing and that's the way it is hehe I am very lucky, and I love him to pieces. He's very very good with the DC and we alternate who puts which child to bed at night, for example DD is easy and takes very little time to get sorted and ready for bed, whilst baby J takes longer and needs his milk feed etc.
DP and I also alterate who gets up to feed baby J his 5ish am feed and have done right from day one. If I'm not feeling very well, DP will do stretches of 2/3/4 days of doing it, and visa versa.

DD and I have decorated our basket ready for the Trick or Treaters tonight and filled it with yummy treats.
Puree's are done. House is clean and sparkling Washing is all done and sorted into everyones rooms. Were just waiting for DP to get it so we can get off to the library.
