omg that looks quite complicated actually.

MamaG · 09/11/2009 14:08

Star when I make Yorkshire puds I make as follows:-

Put a muffin tray in the oven (12 hole job) with a dash of veg oil in teh bottom of each hole. The oil MUST get smoking hot. Really, smoking hot. Your oven should be on full whack.

Put 6oz of plain flour ina bowl

In a jug, put 10oz of milk and 5oz of cold water and whisk in two eggs.

That recipe makes it sound more complicated than it needs to be star. Just bung the batter ingredients (from that link) into a bowl and whisk. Cook some sausages in a baking dish, and once cooked, and ensuring that there's a good amount of fat in the dish, pour over the batter mix, and put back in the oven. You can ignore all the faff with the onions.

All this talk of food is making me nauseous .

Cross post. It's Delia's recipe that makes it sound more complicated, not MamaG's.

So how do you make gravy?

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2009 14:17

Like this!

star6 · 09/11/2009 14:21

I love the gravy recipe

aubergenie · 09/11/2009 14:33

CSWS is right, that delia recipe does make it sound like a real faff. It's actually really easy. As long as you cook the sausages beforehand and follow Mamag's advice about having the oven really hot and not peeping, it should be lovely. Let us know how it turns out.

star6 · 09/11/2009 14:39

maybe I should buy a frozen one first to see if I like it?

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2009 14:40

And oat milk works quite well in it too .

I doubt you'll get a frozen toad in the whole with veggie sausages, but you can get frozen yorkies that are ok. But you'll feel so much better for making them yourself!

OP posts:
star6 · 09/11/2009 14:46

I just looked it up on tesco and you can get a veggie one frozen [
Yes, I'll feel better making it myself.

MamaG · 09/11/2009 15:22

STEP AWAY FROM THE FROZEN YORKSHIRES!

They SUCK

REally, they do. they are SO EASY to make star, I promise

aubergenie · 09/11/2009 16:13

Ladies - I've just realised that S is due to have his 1st MMR and PCV jabs on WEdnesday. He's been really poorly. I should postpone them till he's 100% shouldn't I??

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2009 16:31

Iirc they are ok to have them with a cold, but nothing more.
I really must book some jabs for ds. What are the ones they were supposed to have at 12 months?

OP posts:
50ftQueenie · 09/11/2009 16:37

I haven't had any reminders about immunisations which is very strange as they sent me two for each jab she needed with the first lot! I really should investigate......

aubergenie · 09/11/2009 17:18

According to S's red book at 12 months it's Hib/men C. Then at 13 months it's the MMR and PCV.

I think he just has a nasty cold. I know it's probably nsilly but think I might feel better if I postpone them. If his immune system is already working hard I don't want to make it harder for him to recover properly. There's so much stuff going round at the moment.

star6 · 09/11/2009 18:00

I wouldn't give Q any immunizations if he was feeling even slightly under the weather. Individual choice I guess (and I'm paranoid)

pepperrabbit · 09/11/2009 18:52

I tend to err on the side of caution and only take healthy children for jabs. Anything to reduce the risk of a sleepless night for me tbh.

aubergenie · 09/11/2009 19:14

Good point about the sleep Pepper. I really can't cope with too many more sleepless nights.

star6 · 09/11/2009 19:56

toad in the hole turned out well I made a gravy with veg stock, water, wholemeal flour and apples. Yummy. I used veggie sausages. I would have preferred just the Yorkshire pudding tbh

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2009 20:24

Hurrah! Hope you felt thoroughly British eating it!

aubergenie · 09/11/2009 21:10

I'm going to have to make Yorkshire puddings this week as well now. I shall blame this thread when I start busting out of all my clothes.

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/11/2009 21:13

Me too aubergenie. Have ordered sausages.

Luckily I am immune to the temptations of Yorkshires. Not my bag baby! DH made a delicious chicken pot roast tonight though. Yum yum yum!

So you enjoyed it Star? Good old British grub. Do you cook a big roast at Christmas? You could add Yorkshire pudding to your meal now! Do Americans eat dumplings? That might be your next venture.

Went to BW with my little bro today and bought him some Timberland boots for his trip. They're bloody expensive things. However, after I paid for them I realised that the Boden boots I was wearing actually cost about £50 more! How ridiculous! At least DB's boots are waterproof and practical.

Where is Myjob? She has very quiet over the last couple of days!
