Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

meglet digi said on faceboko that it wasn't her in the video.
I thought they were good again and John and Edward were awful again.

splish good to see you back, I guess you've had a tough time recently, hope things are getting better now. There's a few of us who live in North Hants and have met up a few times (me, meglet and lollyheart) so if you're near us and want to meet up let us know.
Do you know how long you'll be staying there for? Must be difficult.

Meglet · 17/10/2009 22:26

splish Yes, I might be near you. Do you have any family / friends locally now? Are you on fb? Enjoy your MN fix .

Hopefully · 17/10/2009 22:31

Splish I'm not a million miles away either (W. Sussex). Speaking of meet ups, I went to soft play today for the first time since we met up Meglet Debi and lolly. It's bloody scary!

Meglet · 17/10/2009 22:36

hopefully I don't go to soft play so much these days, it's impossible to supervise both the dc's now dd is on the go. I used to like going as I always ended up playing with ds on the slides and (scarily high up ) rope bridges.

splishsplosh · 17/10/2009 23:01

I'm in the south, though not far from w sussex. I've got 1 friend not far away - didn't even realise how close til i was on my way here, and a sister in e sussex. But it's hard being away from usual friends / play groups etc.

No, not on facebook at the moment, but 1 of the girls here is a facebook addict, so maybe I'll try it some time!

splishsplosh · 17/10/2009 23:03

Meglet know what you mean about soft play - dd1 won't go off on her own, so only option is to tuck dd2 under my arm and clamber about like that..

splishsplosh · 17/10/2009 23:03

Nice to see you back Splish, sounds like you're having a tough time . It's great big step forward that you're away from the domestic situation but also hard not being in your home. Is there anything we can do to help? Please let us know if there is.

hopefully - you're a knitter aren't you? I was thinking of buying MIL a needle wrap and knitting bag, but are they just gimics? She currently just bungs her stuff in a re-used gift bag and I feel she needs order and somewhere nice to put her knitting paraphernalia (SP!)

Yes , ds has at last grasped going down backwards off sofas and stairs. I thought he was going to throw himself off head first forever.

I think he's got mild croup though. He's happy in the daytime (albeit a bit tired sometimes) but last night was horrendous. I can't believe it coincides with dh working away for a couple of weeks. ggaahhhhh.

foxytocin · 18/10/2009 12:05

Congratulations Ponymum. How very brave exciting. I know that I couldn't have 2 under 2s but then that must be something to do with my age.

I am back to foxy as I have put my pump and 2 slings up for sale. Sigh.

I am just tired and stressed these days. DH works away 'down south' so I am like a single mum with a FT job during the weak.

I am sorry to be missing the X-Factor and seeing digi's sis (?) I go to bed so early, promising to get up when dds go to sleep but end up falling asleep myself. a couple times a week I am awake during the night for going to sleep too early.

Hopefully · 18/10/2009 17:26

ILTQS I don't think they're gimicky. I certainly have a knitting bag, and am contemplating sewing myself a holder for all my needles - would be much better than current throw-them-all-in-the-knitting-bag-and-occasionally-snap-them solution.

Ponymum · 18/10/2009 17:51

Yikes, foxy, you're frightening me! The only reason I am going for the second so quickly is precisely because I'm so old - it's kind of a now or never situation. We'll muddle through somehow... I hope.

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 18/10/2009 18:25

Of course you'll cope Ponymum. I think whatever life throws at you you cope, sometimes better than others, but you get through it. Yeah there'll be tough times (lack of sleep etc), but they're always forgotten when your lo's are there smiling at you

Thanks Hopefully. That's convinced me, I'll be off to the knitting shop soon.

I have the fear tonight. DH is working away for the next three weeks (but back at the weekends) and ds is ill. Oh crap.

We were fine last week, but poor old ds is very clingy and wingey when he's ill. I know it's not his fault as he's ill, but whinging really REALLY tests my patience and makes me snappy, snd then I feel awful as it's ds's way of telling me/showing he's ill.

I tell you, I have nothing but admiration for you ladies who do this all of the time - and there's me bitching about 3 weeks.

I try and analyse why I've got the fear. I think it's because I feel like I'm totally having to shoulder responsibility for ds. Which is stupid really because when dh is here he only really see's ds for 1/2 hour before ds goes to bed so it's not as if I'm doing loads more childcare.

I think, no infact I know, I need to pull myself together and get over myself

CarrieBo · 18/10/2009 19:21

ITQITI I think any change in routine is scary for us - I'm getting my knickers in a total twist about dh going away for business next year, and as you rightly say its nothing compared to what some of our friends on here are coping with but its different from what we and the dcs are used to and you have to find a new routine for that time.

Welcome back splish!

I've got hand, foot and mouth on friday I had a headache that got steadily worse all day, and had swollen glands and sore throat by evening. Yesterday I just felt rough all day, dizzy, off my food, headachey, fluey but with normal temperature, then today I put my hands in the washing up bowl and nearly screamed! Then the penny dropped as to what I've got. I've got blisters on my hands, and round the back of my throat and round my mouth. I think my feet have escaped so far. Its nice to have an actual reason for feeling this ill. And a reason to eat chocolate ice-cream for medicinal purposes I haven't had that privilege since I had my wisdom teeth taken out!
Really hope I feel much better tomorrow coz dh really can't take time off work at the mo and we have no family for hundreds of miles to help with the dcs.

I thought ds had been saying 'mama' but actually it turns out he was asking for his muslin which is his security blanket. He saw where dh put it at dinner time and was pointing straight past me to the spot and saying 'mama!' and signing please. Kinda cute and disappointing all at once!

ponymum I still maintain having two dcs in under 18m is one of the best things I ever did, its been absolutely brilliant. How's the SPD? Have you seen the physio yet?

Debs75 · 18/10/2009 19:50

I think we have finally decided on a 2nd stage car seat. We had a look at the Kiddy seat and the Brio Zento and I think the Brio will be the one. It is still rear facing, it fits fine in the car, robyn was comfy in it and it will last longer thrn 4 year00.s

Debs75 · 18/10/2009 20:41

Can write now Robyn is in bed and not stealing the mouse.

Robyn has started sleeping on her front, she is sleeping longer in one go but I still have to check she is still breathing when I see her in her cot.

Digi have asked some friends in the know and they all say that your sis and her group are great and they should get to the finals. Will definitely have to watch an episode soon.

*Splish8 nice to see you back and hope you are all well. Your dd's crawling sounds like Robyn's, she can get some speed up whjen she spies an open door tho. She is still waking a couple of times in the night as well and only has a usual nap of about 45 mins.

Ponymum · 19/10/2009 14:01

carriebo I'm hoping it's a good move in the long run. They will be 21 mths apart. Yes, I have been to the physio - GP decided to bypass everyone and refer me directly to the physio, and she called the next day for an appt the following day! No sign of the SPD pain yet but she said I have to "act as if I've already got it". Hating this - acting lke an invalid already. But she said it could be just one awkward lift that triggers it, so don't tempt it. I see where she's coming from, but I don't even feel pg yet, and I'm having to move the washing basket in three goes, ask DH to pick up DD for me, avoid going up and down the stairs, etc. Very frustrating!
How's the house move going?

CarrieBo · 19/10/2009 14:27

house moving is great thanks ponymum

Still waiting for the solicitor to phone dh back with today's update - i.e. whether or not we would actually get permission from the holders of the restrictive covenant to extend the new house and are therefore going to proceed and move in two weeks! Somehow I doubt that a) she will phone b) she will have the answer yet. sigh.

Lots more blisters on my hands, feet and mouth today

Having quite a nice day at home with the dcs though!

DebiTheScot · 19/10/2009 14:29

Poor you Carrie hope you feel better soon, it sounds horrid.

ILTQITI I can sympathise with you losing patience when the whining starts, that's what I find the hardest to deal with.

DS2 doesn't seem very well today but can't figure out exactly what's wrong and am struggling with him. He's also not been eating well recently and as he's not well is even worse today. He has gone off bread and as he already doesn't seem to like potatoes, most fruit, most veg, rice, cheese and some other things I'm struggling to think of things for him to eat.
Also today he has drunk no water at all. Had half a tommee tippee cup of milk this morn and has refused to put the cup near his mouth since. Also tried him with a carton of juice but wouldn't take that either.

The house is a tip, I've got a million things to do and I'm sitting here whining. I'll go now and do something more constructive.

CarrieBo · 19/10/2009 14:59

Maybe he's got hand foot and mouth...?! Seriously though I really feel for you, its horrible having a poorly child and you can't explain to them what's going on, and they can't tell you whats up and where it really hurts. Big sympathy.

ILikeToQuickstepItTangoIt · 19/10/2009 15:34

What is hand, foot and mouth? I hope your feel better soon, it sounds horrid.

DS has got croup, his breathing sounded worse this morning so I took him to the GP. Luckily it's only mild but it will get worse before it gets better - gulp.

Apart from the whining he is being a trooper really. I also get lots of cuddles

debi - have you tried warm honey and water? I've made some for ds and he's glugging it down. I think he likes the novelty of a sweet drink (he only ever has water) and a straw. Maybe your ds2 has a sore throat, if so juice will hurt it??

Pacita · 19/10/2009 20:52

Sorry about all the poorly children, ladies. Could it be the after effects of their vaccinations?

Regarding food, I can recommend quinoa. I know it sounds terribly lentil weaverish, but it is soft and grainy and very good for them, and seems to have the right amount of texture and flavour to please the smallies. I give Diego quinoa with stewed vegetables and a drizzle of olive oil. Touch wood, he's an excellent eater and has become very good at feeding himself (making a right old mess in the process, it's got to be said).

Nice to see you Splish. It does sound tough right now, I hope us mumsnet friends can give you some comfort and help where possible.

Ponymum, however frustrating, I think it's great that the GP is supporting you from the beginning of your pregnancy (mine wouldn't give a rat's arse, for a start). You may find that if you are careful it doesn't even make an appearance this time. Every pregnancy is different, so fingers crossed. I'm keeping my eyes on you, as another, ahem, vintage mother who'd like another one but is too exhausted does not feel quite brave enough just yet.

CarrieBo · 19/10/2009 20:54

Hand foot and mouth is a virus that makes you feel cruddy, I had a headache and sore throat, dizziness and feverish (but with no temp) then after 36 hours I came out in blisters on my hands, feet and in my mouth. Kids tend to dribble a lot with it, and you lose your appetite too. The skin on my hands is very hyper-sensitive although I only have about 8 visible blisters. I've only come across it since having children, as several of my friends kids have had it. Ice pops are a great medicine for kids when they've got it

So sorry for those of you with poorly children

DebiTheScot · 19/10/2009 21:47

I think he does have a sore throat, has had a cold with a bit of a cough. But what was weird today was that hiscold symptoms seemed better than yest but he was more miserable.
Then after tea he did a VERY stinky poo (ds1 had to leave the room) and then cheered up so I guess he had a sore tummyas well as the cold symptoms. Poor thing.

Your virus sounds much worse though Carrie apart from the excuse to eat ice cream all day

foxytocin · 19/10/2009 22:02

Sorry I didn't mean to worry you PM. I just know my limitations and 2 under 2s would have me sectioned. I am sure of it.

For the moment no one is poorly in my house but come the weekend, I can bet you someone will be ill. Why you say? Simple. It will be the half term. Never the less, roll on Friday. 4 more sleeps.

Pacita · 20/10/2009 20:08

This thread is eerily quiet... Where is everyone gone?
