Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

OP posts:

Just make sure the meal is 1 portion of protein, 1 portion of carbs and 2 portions of fruit or veg.

They are too little to have any cultural expectations of what goes together.

My kids had pancakes, smoked salmon peas and rasberies for lunch. No leftovers.

Hopefully · 04/01/2010 18:59

That's a sensible thing to remember, Starlight. I sometimes realise that while T has eaten a relatively varied diet, he's had a complete overdose of, say, carbs.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 04/01/2010 19:12

My mum thinks a varied diet is takeaway pizza, one night, KFC the next, and a chinese the next.

mamamuffin · 04/01/2010 19:41

Hi guys
Thanks for your very kind messages. I am plodding on with the rib situation. They do do not warrent an xray as my breathing is ok but painful. I went back to work today and did the miminim possible. The good news is that I did not realise that I had so much annual leave oustanding apparently five weeks worth to take asap. I am going to work tomorrow then friday and then take the whole lot of leave to sort my life out and fix my bones good and proper.
Erm what are felafels? I am into eggs here for lunch, omlette, scrambeled, eggy bread, dippy egg, poached. Always with a bit of wholemeal bread/toast and some yougurt bluberries or grapes for dessert.
Think I need to diet a bit now Ive ate so much over the festivities. xxx

Ponymum · 04/01/2010 20:47

mama They are little patties made of ground up chick peas and herbs. See link here. No need to make them yourself though - you can buy them from the chiller in the supermarket, usually found near the hummus.

Oh yes, omelettes are another favourite here too. She's gone off scrambled egg for some reason.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/01/2010 21:46

DS isn't sure about scrambled egg, I think it's the texture - it can be quite rubbery, well mine is anyway

Melon is something else he has problems with, I can see he quite likes it but it seems to slip out of his mouth - it can be quite entertaining to watch

Hurrah at the 5 weeks annual leave Mamma! Like you said, it will give you time to get better.

Oh, and you must try falafels, they are lovely.

Meglet · 04/01/2010 22:43

ILTMIMI We like grated cheese & carrot sandwiches (I make up a batch that is fine in a tub in the fridge for about 3 days, mini pizzas (actually just split bread muffins and toasted with cheese & tomato on, I add basil leave to make them more pretty ), chopped celery & grated carrot mixed into philadelphia....um.. I can't think of anything else, my mind has gone blank. When I remember I will let you know!

digitalgirl · 04/01/2010 22:52

DS won't eat sandwiches. He'll have a bite of mine but spits out bread if served on his own plate. He only eats bread if he's really hungry. Then once the initial hunger has worn off he spits it out and looks for other food.

Quick, simple meal he loves. Chop two fresh tomatoes, crush clove of garlic, throw in frying pan with lots of olive oil. Put macaroni/small pasta onto boil (cooks quicker), drain and mix with tomatoes so it absorbs the garlciky tomatoey juices. Remove garlic, grate cheese (optional) and serve. Sometimes I don't bother with the cheese if he's had shepherds pie the same day.

Disappointingly he doesn't care for Yorkshire Pudding.

Hopefully · 05/01/2010 13:33

T is doing longer at the childminder from today (a whopping 8:30-3:30 twice a week!), and am feeling all lost - I have so much time! Obviously I actually need to work during all this time in order to earn enough to pay for the childminder, but it's still weird.

ILTMIMI sorry, forgot to email you, will do so asap.

Loving all the food ideas. t is a bread addict, but I worry about him having too much wheat (he would have cheese on toast three times a day given half a chance). I usually give him leftovers, a sandwich with whatever's lying around as a side, eggy bread. He used to like omelette and scrambled eggs but has recently deemed them unworthy of his palette

Hopefully · 05/01/2010 13:34

obviously not all those meals at once! Although I suspect he'd give it a good go...

becaroo · 05/01/2010 15:32

Hi all....I am onto my second day as a home educator!!!!

As some of you may remember from last year, ds1 has had lots of problems at school (partially due to me sending him before he was ready and partially due to a dire year 1 teacher who after telling us ds1 was struggling with literacy only heard him read 3 times in a whole academic year!!!) and his confidence has taken a real battering...so much so that we have decided that for now this is the best option for us.

May not be able to MN as much though!!!!

Hope that not too many of you are snowed in!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/01/2010 15:53

No problem Hopefully, answer when you've got time.

Good for you Becaroo, I hope you've got lots of support around you. It's a wonderful thing you're doing for your ds.

meglet - thanks for the cream cheese idea. It jogged my memory about a sandwich shop that used I used to go to and they made a filling that was Philadelphia, grated carrot, sweetcorn, cress and cucumber - it was lush.

No snow here yet, just a dusting left. Looking at the weather maps I think we might not get any.

mamamuffin · 05/01/2010 17:27

Yummy, all this talk of food is making me hungry. I will certainly be on the look out for falfels and try the suggested other receipes.
I went into work today and was slipping everywhere in my car the roads are so bad. We have at least a foot of snow here.
I ahave finished now so am resting the old ribs.
carrie sinus problems can be so painful. Be careful not to use to much decogestion sprays etc as they can easily burn and irritate the area. However a good saline nose thing is called "happy nose" I have known lots of people with a happy nose after using it.
xx

Hopefully · 05/01/2010 18:22

lol at 'happy nose'. Sounds like a euphemism for cocaine.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 05/01/2010 19:04

A plumber is here to fix our boiler. Has been sitting in our kitchen for over an hour talking to DH about how to keep nuclear misiles cool in the sea during transport, how cyclones are caused and that apparently so-called environmental 'green' strategies would actually speed up global warming. i.e. flood defences are dangerous because they prevent the earth from cooling itself.

They've also been talking about teenagers forced through an education system that allows them to leave school bored, uninspired with no education when they could have had work discipline beaten into them, idependence and responsibility rather than being made to live off their parents and allowed to get lazy.

He's got to come back in a couple of days to do more work, as he wasn't able to finish the job - wonder why

Seems to be a nice man really though. Hope his work is up to scratch. Wonder what nuggest he'll bring next time?

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 05/01/2010 19:59

DG it is NOT disappointing that your lo doesn't like yorkshire. DH and I used to eat at a carvery where we would both take an extra yorkshire (for the baby - who didn't like them - he he)

DebiTheScot · 05/01/2010 20:46

Made it back down South just in time today. No probs getting home and got back a few hours before the snow started. Hoping for a snow day for me tomorrow. I haven't planned with my lessons but don't know if it's worth it now!

about your friend Carrie but it must be a bit of a comfort knowing where she's gone.

Hope your plumber stops talking and works hard tomorrow Starlight!

Can't remember who was asking about lunch but we also end up having cream cheese sandwiches most days. DS1 has had them most days for about 3 years now! DS2 does go off bread every now and again though so we have to think of other things. We also need to have either packed lunches or quick lunches. Apart from sandwiches we have toasted muffins, crumpets, eggy bread, beans on toast and nibbly (but not very healthy) things like mini scotch eggs, mini sausages etc.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yorkies...

Meglet · 05/01/2010 21:31

debi at least you're home. Its snowing properly now over here. I'm working locally tomorrow, although if nursery is shut then I will have to wait for mum to get here before I can go to work.

Debs75 · 05/01/2010 21:45

Robyn has turned into a total babyzilla.

Every night when i take her to bed we have a feed then fotr no reason she flings her head back tries to flip off my knee into her cot, i lay her in it and then she rolls around, gets annoyed and asks to come out.
We do this up to 10 times a night before she either falls asleep on the breast or finally rolls over to sleep.
i think she wants to go to sleep on her own but just can't sdo it, ATM she is crying in her cot as if i stayed with her i think i would of thrown her across the room.

OK not really but she is getting harder and harder to settle everynight and taking longer each night.
Will have to go and attempt to settle her down as DS is having his own tantrum due to her crying

Meglet · 05/01/2010 21:52

debs My 2 set each other off as well ( thin walls and laminate floors = no sound-proofing). It drives me up the wall, especially at 3am . It's definately one of those 'step away from the child and calm down' moments.

Debs75 · 05/01/2010 22:18

stress over now, went up and she was hugging her cotside. picked her up and she gave me a huge hug, had a feed and then went in her cot rolled over and went to sleep.
The whole 'routine' takes about an hour, how do i shorten it please?????????

on the happier side, guess who thought it would be a good idea to drive to Leeds from Hull today?
Yes me! i TOOK MY FRIEND TO PICK sorry up her bro and sil and their tiny 3 week old DD so they could visit some friends and family.
even worse the sat nav tried to take us the York way and we nearly got stuck in a huge snow drift. Got there in the end and there was so much snow, we;ve only had about 4 inches and most of the roads are clear but Leeds was nearly gridlocked. Think we left just in time as sil's mum was snowed in an hour after we had set off.

The baby is gorgeous tho, well worth the long drive. she weighs 7.2 so has put on a poundand a half since birth. I held her and Robyn was so confused, her face was a picture. Is really hard to remember ROBYN WAS THAT BIG sorry stupid laptop once, makes me all broody

Hopefully · 06/01/2010 06:49

We have snow! It's DP's birthday and there's no way I'm letting him drive to work - it's only abut four inches, but he works four miles down a small lane, and it's meant to sleet and drop below freezing later on, which means it will be lethal. I know I'm in for a row as he always wants to try to get in, and I am soooooo not letting him.

mamamuffin · 06/01/2010 08:30

Hi guys
I am not a good person to ask for advice deb I am still doing the whole feeding to sleep thing too.
The roads are so bad hopefully stick to your guns.
The school is closed again. Another looooooongggg day, I am sure i will be back on here soon. x

Hopefully · 06/01/2010 09:26

Starlight!!!!! Where the hell are you? I have a BFP and need you to repeat all those wise things you said about surviving the early days with 2 children!

And for everyone else, I have a BFP! Woooop! Still major early days (am only four or five weeks), so could all go horribly wrong yet, but it's probably allowed to tell you lot. My mother was totally underwhelmed when I told her, saying, "is that a good thing?"

Hopefully · 06/01/2010 09:27

Oh, and DP stayed at home. Almost no argument. Especially when I gave him a +tve test.
