Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

I think you are right 20 steps is walking, she has done itt a few times since but reverts to crawling when she gets excited.

Lokking forwaRD TO 2010 as well. hoping that dp can get back into work and we can finally get the ball moving regards moving to a bigger house. Robyn really needs to get into her own room. we have got tyhe night wakings down to once a night but she still shares with me.

Finally sorted out claiming for DD1's phone so she can have her a late christmas present. Just got to sort out the computer. Can I claim for it when it is an insurance replacement?

How was Vancouver Starlight did you get the dc's skiing? My cousin went to Romania and said some of the local toddlers were better then she was.

Glad to hear there is lots of shagging going on

Here are some titles. Vote for what you like and post any different suggestions.

Sept 08: Which is yours? A tantruming babyzilla? Or a climbing gorilla? Or both?!

Sept 08: They were cute little bundles that smelt of milk and vanilla, but someone's come along and swapped them for a babyzilla.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/12/2009 20:10

Digi - I meant to mention about your ds headbanging yesterday and forgot. I really don't know much about it but I do know that it isn't uncommon. Maybe do some Googleing and research it yourself, and/or start a thread on here as I bet you will get some great advice?

If you have good HV's that you trust and have given you sensible advice in the past then I would probably speak to them about it.

Or maybe just -
Sept 08: The rise of the babyzilla

digitalgirl · 29/12/2009 20:41

I like 'The Rise of the Babyzilla' sounds like a kitsch B-Movie.

iltmimi keep meaning to start a thread/search for old threads about the head-banging...

To be honest, he's not done much of it today I think it's because we haven't been out of the house at all and he's had my undivided attention. So it's definitely an attention-seeking thing, which is definitely made worse when he's teething. I might give it a month before going to the HV as he'll most likely grow out of it like he did with the biting.

hopefully am completely that you have made a sensible spreadsheet to ensure you are totally debt free in the next few months. Apart from that being an impossibility for us over the next 15 years (mortgage) we have actually just taken on loads more debt (from bank and family) to invest in DH's business.

And we're hoping to get pregnant in the next 12 months. And we have no plan of how to handle the over-crowding in our house should we get pregnant and the baby hits 12 months and we want it to sleep in the same room as it's DB and DGM.

I have fantasies of building on top of our extension and creating another 2 bedrooms. But that would require yet more borrowing (although would be cheaper than moving)....sigh.

Hopefully · 29/12/2009 22:21

DG we have no mortgage (we rent), so that makes a huge difference! I would love to buy, but I'm just not prepared to stretch ourselves to those kind of limits. In the area we are in we can rent a far nicer place than we could afford to buy. Also not sure how we're going to afford baby numero 2 (more specifically childcare for said baby when it hits a reasonable age), but I guess it'll be 3 years max (depending on how long it takes to get pregnant) of difficulty then T will be at school and costs will fall...

I like the rise of the babyzilla and the 'milk and vanilla' one.

becaroo · 30/12/2009 12:01

Hey hey everyone

Hope you all had a good xmas?

Just popping in to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2010....

Oh god - what does one do with a tantrumming toddler? Because I've had one for a couple days now. He's waking up ravenous in the night and then with a soggy nappy which doesn't help me deal. I think he's just hacked off he can't walk better or communicate orreach all the things he wants to. CBeebies and milk seem to be the onlycure butI don't want him turninginto a total Tellytubby - he doesn't move that much and is very stocky so all his trousers are 2-6 inchestoo long if they fit over him.

Starting 'sing and sign' next week which I hope will help some form of communication a bit as well as getting us out of the house on Fridays. How hard can it be to go 'muh' at the right moment or make the 'milk' sign, for gods' sake???!! (yes I know. Just ranting!) He's having endearing moments too. Honest.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 30/12/2009 18:20

When M tantrums I have to ignore. I make sure he's safe and not about to throw himself of the sofa or anything, then I just ignore him and sometimes leave the room. The tantruming goes up a notch for a short while, but then he gets over it quite quickly.

If I can see a tantrum looming I try distraction. If I take away something from him (usually because it isn't safe to play with) I always try and swap it for something, that often reduces the number of meltdowns.

NC - can you change his nappy when you give him a feed? Will that help the soggy nappy situation?

I have thought about signing too. Up until recently I thought we wouldn't need it as our communication seemed to be ok, however over the past few days I'm coming round to thinking it would be a good idea.

CarrieBo · 30/12/2009 20:11

We have broadband!!

Two bits of good news: my pg friend kept her legs crossed until yesterday (she's the one who got snowed in with a breach, overdue baby) and safely had a little boy called Henry

And my friend with cancer is still (just) with us but thankfully she didn't leave us on Christmas Day, which would have been too awful for her kids.

DS also headbutts the floor, its usually just one rather than repeated, and its generally when hungry and/or overtired.

He's got really quick at standing up in the middle of a room, and can do the actions to lots of songs and things while standing, but absolutely determindly will not take any steps!

I was drinking like a fish two christmasses ago, had my LMP on 22nd Dec so threw caution to the wind and conceived in Jan!

This year was my first christmas since 2004 that I wasn't TTC, pg or bf. I've eaten a lot of stilton and brie!

I'm soooo mama. We would be SWI if we weren't building an extension next year. And if we didn't have three big family birthdays (including mine ;) ) my brother's wedding, and dh being away for several weeks with work. I just couldn't cope with the risk of a baby coming before extension was done, or collapsing with ms while dh was away.

I think I'm coming down with a lurgy so I'm gonna get off the computer and lie on the sofa. Happy new everyone, and happy new decade, kisses to all your beautiful babies xxx

mamamuffin · 30/12/2009 20:19

Hi guys
Hope you all have a great new year. The tantruming situation is all too familiar here too. I think it does not help that three molars are peeping thru together. Distraction is my method too.
NC PAMPERS ACTIVE SIZE 5 DO THE TRICK HERE.
On the positive side my foot is almost back to normal. It only hurts a tiny bit when Ive been on it all day. Back to work new years day for me. Happy new year!

Ponymum · 30/12/2009 21:56

Welcome back cariebo! I'm jealous of baby named Henry. We would use that name if we had a boy, except DH's cousin (who shares our surname) has already used it. Hmmph. But I'm glad someone can make use of it.

Meglet · 30/12/2009 22:22

Glad your foot is better now mamamuffin. Boo to going back to work in cold January though.

DD doesn't do headbanging tantrums, but she does stick out her bottom lip, collapse to the floor and sob dramatically . It is known as 'The Lip' now .

I am toying with the idea of having another go at potty training with 3.2yo DS this New year, apart from a quick dash to town tomorrow first thing we're free all weekend. I might aim for half a day with pants and see how bad / good it is then go from there. Last time we did it I used all the pants (14 pairs) in about 5 hours (must buy another pack in case!). He has done all his poo's on the toilet now for about 3 weeks so it might work this time, he just pee's a lot, easily every 15 mins if pant free during bath time. I think I give him too much water, anyone would think he was an Olympic athlete in training .

Hopefully · 31/12/2009 11:47

Meglet T does exactly that. The weeping and wailing, sadly, elicits nothing but laughs from DP and I, although we are trying to keep a straight face and ignore, so he doesn't think it gets attention. The bottom lip is bloody hilarious though - just when you think it can't go any further out, it does!

Urk, does anyone want to come over and make a lemon ice cream pie for me? Have promised it to everyone for dinner (curse you, nigel slater, for writing such nice recipes), and now have to actually make it...

Have lost the kitchen beneath two loaves of bread and associated fallout, and the leftovers from dinner last night.

foxytocin · 31/12/2009 12:08

i have knitted dd2 a hat and now dd1 wants a hat too. but she wants a monkey hat. hence i came on the pc thinking i'll get a hat pattern in no time. think again. aaaarrrggghhh!

and dd2 is bossing the keyboard.

what an exciting new years eve i am building up to have.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 31/12/2009 13:02

Lemon ice-cream pie. yum yum. That sounds lush Hopefully.

MIL is looking after M this avo so dh and I are going to the cinema. I'm so excited! We don't go out together just us two very often. Although that's as exciting as our NYE gets

Actually I don't care, I hate NYE. What a load of guff (baa humbug!)

I would love to knit and be crafty, but I have no practical or artistic ability AT ALL.

Welcome back Carriebo. Good news about baby Henry and glad to hear your friend is still with you - how tragic for everyone, it's so unfair.

I tried some leggings on yesterday just to see what they looked like. I was right, they really did look shit. I knew they would, but for some reason I decided I would just check

Oh well, better go. I've got a date with my dh, Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law. Move over dh

digitalgirl · 31/12/2009 14:09

Am feeling very proud of myself for making the bed and putting sheets in the machine while DS has been napping. After various other laundry associated tasks I am awarding myself MN time till DS wakes up.

We have very low key new years eve plans tonight. Off to my dads this eve, then back home to put ds to bed and share a bottle of bubbly with DH in front of the telly. Would actually quite like to have friends over. But everyone has other plans. My own fault for not coming up with the idea earlier than today I suppose.

What's everyone else up to?

Hopefully · 31/12/2009 16:19

We have got a particularly awful night with DP's dad here ahead. His dad is a bit mad, and also just not my kind of person - we clash about almost everything! I am pasting on a grin and thinking of my ice cream pie (which was pretty good when I had a sneaky taste earlier ).

ninja · 31/12/2009 21:33

Just bookmarking - arrived back from Ireland with the inlaws - we survived.

Our boiler broke on Christmas day though, and we left early on boxing day so it's a VERY COLD house we've got back to.

I sincerely wish you all a great New Year and I hope that 2010 brings you all what you desire

New Year's Resolutions anyone??

OP posts:
splishsplosh · 01/01/2010 00:18

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone xxxx

digitalgirl · 01/01/2010 09:43

Happy 2010!

Can you believe our babies will turn 2 this year?

New Years Resolutions:

Face up to having to cut down on the biccies as I am no longer breastfeeding

Try and see old friends more

Get pregnant but don't obsess about it

I'd say 'spend less' but that's not gonna happen. Should just be 'earn more'

foxytocin · 01/01/2010 14:20

Happy new years everyone. (Keyboard acting up.)

Haven't thought of a NY resolution yet. Maybe somethign about getting my classes' books marked more often or something else dreary like that.

Never heard of Lemon icecream pie but the thought of it sounds lush.

currently roasting a leg of lamb. it has been snowing so after lunch will be taking the dds out for a New Year's Day walk.

Oh a resolution! to do some short country walks with the dds in the N Yorkshire moors which are a stone's throw from here..

becaroo · 01/01/2010 14:25

Happy new year everyone!

DG My dnephew was a handbanger - was definately an attention seeking thing with him. My dsis was very worried about it though and took him to the HV who basically told her to put a cushion on the floor and leave him to it!!!!

I dont really do new year (having worked behind a bar as a student on too many NYE I think!!) so dont do resolutions either.

Might need to get a pt job this year as the credit card debt is going up, not down

Got a child free pm so am batch cooking some cottage pie for Toby and cleaning....sigh....

Meglet · 01/01/2010 14:36

Happy new year

May I blow my own trumpet by saying I have already been for a run (thank you to hungover DSIS for flopping on the sofa with cbeebies on babysitting), made lentil lasagne, filled the dishwasher up with salt and rinse aid and DS's potty training is going brilliantly, 24 hours of pants and no accidents .

foxy I wish I could knit, my mum does though . I have a panda hat from River Island, sadly not home made though.

My new years resolutions are to exercise at least twice a week, potty train DS and improve my veg patch, got to move raspberries and compost bin to make more room. And by the end of the year to no longer have a high chair, one less double buggy (will keep the P&T) and an emptier loft. And the shed needs sorting out. My piggy needs a new friend too, poor thing has been on her own since July.

Hopefully · 01/01/2010 16:32

Happy new year everyone!

DP's dad is here still. I am actually going to murder him soon. Last night's gems included, 'I hate gays. It's just unnatural, isn't it?' If I'd been less semi-unconscious with exhaustion I would have actually had a screaming row with him, am cross with myself that I didn't. He followed it up this morning by informing me that my son would be staying out all night and on drugs at 15 due to our parenting, and has just eaten 3/4 of a REALLY nice expensive box of chocolates that I was given for christmas. DP asked him to eat the nutty chocs as I don't like them (after he'd already eaten a few), and he carried on stuffing them randomly in saying, 'nope, this one's not chocolate, better have another,' with a big smug grin on his face.
