Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

Our thread comes up on the home page you know!

foxytocin · 03/01/2010 06:57

Sorry to hear about your friend Carrie. It brings so much turmoil into the family when someone so young dies.

Mamamuffin, please go get an x-ray. I agree that it sounds like you have cracked a rib and this way you will get an immediate sick note for work.

It snowed a lot here yesterday and the day before. STill more snow forecast for today. They built a snowman yesterday night and went sledging. Yesterday it was too much wet snow and windy to have them out but hopefully today they can get out and avoid cabin fever in the late afternoon.

CarrieBo · 03/01/2010 11:06

Oh mama that sounds awful! DH has had a cracked rib twice (both from football, precious little sympathy was recevied!) but last time someone told us that even though breathing in hurts, that's the thing to do - breathe in a really deep breath to stretch the rib out. If you just do short little breaths to stop it hurting too much then it might not heal properly. Or so I was told, you're medical so you'll actually know what you're talking about!

I'm debating going to the walk in centre...although they've temporarily moved it to A&E which is a bit scary...I've had a cold/mild flu this week, but the pressure of snot in my sinuses is excruciating, and when I do get to blow my nose there's always blood in it, and my throat is so swollen its like razor blades. Can't be bothered to go out in the snow though and wait for hours to be told 'its a virus'. Hmm.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/01/2010 11:24

Oh dear mamma, what are you like?? Agree with Foxy, get a sick note fro the doc so your work can't bitch (well, not to your face at least!) about having time off.

hopefully - are you interested in buying some Kenwood Chef accessories off me? They are BNIB.

More dusting of snow here, but the sky is blue and the sun is out.

becaroo · 03/01/2010 11:38

mama Get a sick note...broken ribs need time to heal properly.

cariie Very sorry hear about your friend...puts my woes such as they are into perspective!

Ds1 back to school tomorrow...lets hope or a better year for him this year

Redbug · 03/01/2010 11:42

Definitely ILTMIMI! What have you got?

No snow here at all (south coast). Was relatively chilly yesterday and day before though.

Mama I agree with the others - don't try and soldier on, get a sick note.

I am really stiff after playing on the (borrowed) Wii too much yesterday. It's lots of fun, but I don't think we'd get the use out of it if we actually bought one. Also T is intent on its destruction.

T's sleeping is finally beginning to get a bit better after the christmas mayhem - we were up repeatedly with him every night, and he regularly started the day at 5:30, but last night it was only one resettling and he slept in till 7:30!

Hopefully · 03/01/2010 11:45

Oh, that's me by the way. Am trying to avoid publicising TTC (got a few RL friends on MN), so posting on those threads under name change. Hopefully they won't bother to read all my postnatal thread posts and work it all out...

foxytocin · 03/01/2010 12:49

monkeyhat finished. now dd1 refuses to put it on for a photo.

foxytocin · 03/01/2010 13:36

monkey hat here if you want to nosy at my christmas album, go ahead. will make it private tomorrow.

Meglet · 03/01/2010 13:58

foxy the monkey hat is great! Your DC's are so pretty .

carrie Sorry to hear your friend has passed away.

DS's potty training is still going well. He hasn't been out yet so that will take a bit of getting used to, but I think we've pretty much cracked it now.

Santa09108 · 03/01/2010 17:30

splishsplosh Did your DDs like their bits? And did you manage to get anything for yourself? I'm not on MN much so I thought I'd post here.

sorry for the hijack ladies.

Hopefully · 03/01/2010 20:51

wheeeeeeeeeee I'm typing on my brand shiny new iMac computer! It's fantabulous.

Ummm... That's all really

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/01/2010 21:32

Am very at the iMac. When we renew, dh wants to convert to Mac's, which is ironic as it's ds' name!

I have the following hopefully :

multi food mincer
citrus press
multi mill (with glass jar)

They are all new, bnib and never even taken out of the box . I figure if I haven't used them by now I never will.

If you are interested let me know and we can sort it all out my email.

Great hat Foxy

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 22:32

Dear X,

Happy New Year.

I arrived home a couple of days ago and was disappointed to find that the assessment document had not been delivered. As you know I have made repeated requests for this and for the opportunity to go through it with a Speech and Language Therapist and despite promises from you that you would arrange it we are now over three months on and I am without the information which is diminishing in usefulness to us.

You are also aware that I have asked of your service in the week before the CDAC, on the morning of the CDAC (21st September) and on the 12th October what outcomes has there been for Sam of your service input and how you know this. To this date I have not had an answer. Given then, that I must assume there has been none, and my desire for information which you possess that could have been extremely useful in my planning for Sam's progress and understanding I am alarmed that this still has not been made available to me.

You may be aware that I was close to making a formal complaint in August when it became clear to me that there was lack of clarity, planning, assessment and monitoring of Ross' problems and progress but agreed to meet with you and Christine and try to work out a way of moving forward. I held back then from complaining as it is my wish to move forward and ensure that Sam's needs are met rather than get side-tracked into dispute. I was also keen not to jeopardise what should have been a good working relationship. However, I am sad to say that I have seen no changes since that meeting. Sam has had no meaningful or appropriate therapy. I have not been involved or been shown the 'plan' and the assessment data is being deliberately kept from me. As a full and committed partner with a central role in Sam's progress, education and therapy I find this alarming.

I am therefore making one final request that this assessment is with me by Friday 8th January. Given the lack of information, service, progress, outcomes, provision outline, therapy, joint working with parents, timely assessments, preschool support, home support, clinic sessions etc. I feel that Sam has nothing to lose by my submitting a formal complaint should this document not be forthcoming with immediate effect.

Yours hopefully,

Starlight

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 22:33

ooops, - sorry. Didn't mean to bore you all with this. Was meant for elsewhere......

CarrieBo · 03/01/2010 22:42

There's a due in Sept 10 thread

starlight I'm fuming on your behalf after reading that, hope it has the required effect!!

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 22:52

A YEAR he has been under their ineffective service and not one single outcome.

Anyway, - sorry for posting it by accident. Your friend's family are going through much much worse. I should count my blessings.

Meglet · 03/01/2010 22:59

starlight they are brain-shittingly crap aren't they?

carrie I always get excited when I see the new ante-natal threads. There'll be a TTC one for Oct 2010 any day now, before long there'll be a due in 2011 thread. Funny how people keep having babies isn't it .

Hopefully · 04/01/2010 07:50

LOL at brain-shittingly crap . But totally true, and really sorry you're having to continue to fight for what you ought to be able to have at your fingertips Starlight.

ILTMIMI I'm definitely interested in the mincer and the multi-mill. I'll go and do some research on the citrus press and see if it would be useful. If you email me on islaybower [at] gmail [dot] com (don't worry security fiends, it's not my real name!) we can talk cold hard cash .

I am so sad, I am currently using both my computers. Trying to transfer all my docs from old one to new one, with minimal success...

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 04/01/2010 10:05

Hopefully This is probably the best service we are getting. You should see my other letters!

There is this myth that child with SN = lots of support and entitlement, but the reality is 'child with SN = parent with no time to complain'

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/01/2010 13:19

hopefully - an email has been sent

Can people please suggest some lunchtime meals for ds. He'll eat almost anything so that's not a problem, I'm just lacking in inspiration.

It needs to be quick and easy as we usually have lunch in a rush, it's also not his main meal of the day. So I guess it's more a snack than a meal. I'm so very bored of making a sandwich with cheese and grapes!

Ponymum · 04/01/2010 14:09

ILTMIMI Ha ha I was going to suggest cheese sandwiches but I see you've got that one covered. Things we have good success with are felafels. I buy them from the supermarket and just give them to her straight out of the fridge. She loves them, though does eat them in the style of Cookie Monster. They are also good in wraps with lettuce and hummus, which is what I like to eat too so makes it easy. In fact wraps are just brilliant, bung some leftovers in them. Also 'nice' fishcakes are a hit, though I have to remember to turn the oven on before lunch so they are ready in time (we fight over them share). I often just give her a bizarre assortment of leftovers or whatever we had for dinner the night before. Today's lunch was leek and pancetta quiche (kindly cooked by DH) which she devoured with gusto.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 04/01/2010 15:38

My kids have a plate of 'whatever' is in the fridge, plated up with 'whatever' is in the cupboard and 'whatever' is in the fruit bowl and bread bin.

So, - breadsticks with apple, ham, sweetcorn

left over piza with a side of blackberries

banana sandwich with raisins and yoghurt

dry cherios with chicken drumsticks and a chopped plum.

These aren't my pride and joy recipes btw, just food they can eat with minimum preparation or supervision.

ninja · 04/01/2010 16:19

I like your style Starlight

particularly the 'dry cherios with chicken drumsticks and a chopped plum' !!

Oh yes falafel, he likes that, and humous. A wrap with falafel, grated carrot and humous, yuuuuuuummmmmm.

It's easier if I don't have to heat anything. All of our groups are in the morning, so we rush back in the door, make dinner, M shoves it down, then up for a snooze before major meltdown occurs.

Oh, have just remembered toasted sandwiches and toasted wraps. We've got one of those panini press jobbies that are fab for doing wraps in, especially cheese and mushroom.

I think I need to make a list of meals and snacks as I feel I'm in a rut. TBH, ds couldn't give a flying, it's just me getting bored making the same thing over and over again.

Thanks ladies, and more ideas are welcome

M and I went for a walk today, jeez it was cold. I knew it was cold as M actually kept his arms inside his cosy-toes. We had bright red noses and cheeks.
