Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

The wedding was brilliant. Clear blue skies, a bit of snow on the ground and a beautiful location. Christmas trees and decorations everywhere. I commented that I wanted to get married again at Christmas time as it was so lovely

Sympathy here too [splish] and I'll stop moaning about ds2 being in our room still. It must be very hard for you and bending over a travel cot is horrid.

The in-laws have just headed off for the airport again but are in for another interesting journey home. Their flight is likely to be cancelled or diverted but they can't just rearrange something over the phone, they have to go to the airport as BA can't won't do anything over the phone!

DS1 is fascinated by the festive smilies and wants me to draw them all so here goes:

Ponymum · 21/12/2009 15:40

splish Sending you all the good vibes I can, and hope that translates to some sleep and peace. Really feeling for you.

This MRI thing - I had a MRI scan after my appendix operation but I honestly can't remember what happened with BF. Do make them check as that's the last thing you need.

Meglet · 21/12/2009 18:09

hello from Narnia not that I'm being dramatic or anything . The snow has been falling since 1pm and the town has ground to a halt. Thank goodness I wasn't at work today. I have washing on the line and think the weight of the snow might break it!

debi Did your IL's reach the airport ok?

The dc's have been fairly well behaved today considering we couldn't get out. The guinea pig is living in the house now as the shed is too cold so they have been sharing apple with her. She only ventures out when they are out the room . Sensible piggy.

becaroo · 21/12/2009 18:51

splish You have my sincere sympathy

Ds 1 and 2 are awful sleepers...I think I may have gotten 2 hours last night but I have dh to help...cant imagine what it must be like for you....but if it makes you feel better you are not the only one who has amazing non sleeping children! I get very shouty too sometimes with ds1 but tiredness is insidious and can creep up on you almost without you noticing..sometimes I just conk out and literally cant move off the sofa for about 2 hours. I swear if I needed the loo when it happened I would end up wetting myself!!! [ginr]

Really hoping you ahve a btter night tonight.

Have also never heard of not BF after an MRI...do check that out.

DebiTheScot · 21/12/2009 20:54

meglet I thought you were getting carried away as we haven't had much new snow but then I checked my facebook and a friend was stuck in Festival Place carpark for over 6 hours today! In fact she's still not out.

ILs got to the airport ok but all flights after 7pm cancelled so haven't gone anywhere yet. Latest text from them says they might be getting put on a bus to Aberdeen!!!!

splishsplosh · 21/12/2009 21:18

Thank you for all your sympathetic thoughts. dd2 slept for a marathon 4 hours in the middle of the day - decided to let her sleep as much as she wanted as nights can't get any worse. She still conked out at 7, and (everything crossed) is still peaceful now!

I went to have MRI couple of months ago, and they only did part of it as I was bf - now I have to go back for the other bit - they inject a dye or something and so they say no bf for 24hrs after. They said that they don't know that it would cause a problem but neither are they sure that it wouldn't, so they say to avoid it to be on the safe side....

Christmasgoblin / foxy.... are you the 1 with the friend from S'hampton? I got a card from an MNer today.

I've been shown so much kindness from people I haven't met in the last few months, and especially this Christmas - I am so touched, and makes me feel quite tearful... I've had a few years of having some horrible treatment, and not much kindness, and it's quite overwhelming how lovely people have been xx

Debs75 · 21/12/2009 21:37

Splish sympathy vibes from me as well. Robyn is really bad at sleeping, she wakes most nights at least twice, naps in the day for 3 days then stays up all day the next. When the others are at school it is easier I can have a snooze if I want but during holidays it is too noisy. SOmetimes I think she will never sleep, I know it is hard with 2 young ones and in a small space but try and rest whenever you can. I often go to bed at 9ish as I know we will be up at 6.

I think I finally have all my christmas shopping done. Have had to take back a few things already and tescos are such twats on returning things. Still got to brave the food shop so hoping it won't snow again till that is done.

Is Aveeno ok to use on the face? DD1 has a patch of excema on her eyelid Doc has given her doublebase, 500 grams, the bottle is huge it will probably last her till she tuns 16, and a steroid cream. I don't want to use too much of the steroid as eyelids are so thin. robyn came out in it too she has patches on her torso and arms so we are slathering her in doublebase to try and calm it down.

Trying to wean robyn off the boob! Am going to give her fullfat milk in the morning and try and stop her feeding off me. She will drink the odd ounce so just hoping she will get a taste for it.

DebiTheScot · 21/12/2009 22:48

ILs been put on a bus to Aberdeen at 10pm!

digitalgirl · 21/12/2009 23:08

Just getting this back onto the threads I'm on list.

splish so sorry to hear of sleep-time woes. You have my sympathies. And my awed-respect for handling it all on your own in one room.

As petty as it sounds knowing how others are struggling, I'm feeling a little depressed at not having worked at all this month. Love love love being with DS, but definitely need that release of using my brain for something other than laundry, cooking, food-shopping and tidying up.

Looking forward to Christmas and having a few more adults around for longer than a couple of hours.

christmasgoblin · 22/12/2009 05:30

yes i am the one with the friend in S'hampton. she is a very occasional mner and we've been friends for more than 25 yrs give her a jingle/email.

christmasgoblin · 22/12/2009 05:33

yes aveeno is fine on eyelids. i have some bath oil and have started to wash my face with it as for the first time in my life this winter I'm suffering with dry skin

Hopefully · 22/12/2009 09:57

Your poor ILs Debi Splish sending good (and sleepy) vibes your way.

T has woken at 6am the past two mornings, which is a pain as I was just beginning to get over the fluey/coughey thing I've had, and now I feel all run down again. More 9pm bedtimes for me!

Have absolutely loaaaaaads of baking to do today for Christmas. Which is nice

mamamuffin · 22/12/2009 11:10

Hi guys,
I do find this thread hard to find once its dropped off my list. How did it go last night splish ? thinking of you. Sleep depravation is the worst.
Cant remember who was asking butA video on an ipod is a very good idea. I have downloaded lots of cartoons onto it and it keeeps the boys entertained on train journeys etc. When ds1 was about three he was a hyperactive monkey. Taking him shopping was a nightmare. I used to strap him in the buggy with the ipod cartoons and headphones. It made for a peaceful time
My sister had her baby in dubi on saturday so I am an auntie again. He is so gorgeous. Everyone doing well.
I love the SWI phrase pony , thats what I want to do.
I have been to the mother in laws for theweekend. It was a nightmare journey in the snow. However, we had a lovely time and did christmas with them. Now we are back home ready for the real thing.
We did our big shop last night so we are all set. I dont think I will leave the house now. Its too cold. xx

CarrieBo · 22/12/2009 13:56

mama are you TTC?! Ooooh i love babies! DH is wearing me down with his constant enthusiasm for having no.3. I am broody...but this is the first Christmas in 5 that I'm not ttc/pg/bf so I'm going to eat, drink and be merry and we can think about ttc next year! It looks like our extension might not need planning permission, in which case it'll be built a few months earlier than we thought, and DH might get his own way sooner than expected on the SWI front!

We have to give the internet back tomorrow broadband is due to be installed on the 29th (where's the hollow laughter emoticon?) but I'll miss you all over actual Christmas

CarrieBo · 22/12/2009 14:01

One of my friends was due to have her first baby last saturday. Yesterday the midwife thought it was breach, so sent them to hospital but they never made it due to the snow, had to abandon the car and walk home Thankfully they had a scan today and it is head down. So worrying though if they'd had a breach homebirth because they were snowed in!!

My other friend who has cancer is nearing the end. I hope for her kids sake that she doesn't leave us on Christmas day Her poor husband is struggling so much. I babysat last week for the husband of my friend who died in August, so he could go to his work christmas dinner. He's so emotional about Christmas and it would have been her birthday in January too

Christmas really his the best or worst time of year, such extremes of emotions depending on your circumstances.

DebiTheScot · 22/12/2009 15:48

how Carrie. Must be so tough for some people.

ILs got home at 2pm today. They left here at 2.45pm yest. Should have got home at 10pm last night. And they are talking about coming back in Feb!

notcitrus · 23/12/2009 14:34

hello again - we survived Christmas #1 up north! Journey up was fine, we were scared into setting off 2 hours early, and had no traffic problems at all, surprising the ILs by arriving before 4! A really enjoyed stopping at service stations and being walked around, and being given his own bowl of mash, sausage and beans (free!). So I recommend Newport Pagnell as a place to stop on the M1.

Managed to get some sleep while there, after the first night all 3 babies slept pretty well. A loved playing with his big cousin's toys (cousin is 2 today!) but we didn't get any photos of the 3 babies together. And SIL organised going to a restaurant on the last evening which was a bit of a disaster as A was grouchy and clingy and MIL and I couldn't hear a thing and the manager lied when he said he'd turned the music down (why do places do that? Has anyone ever complained the muzak in a restaurant or pub is too quiet???).

Way home - crap meal at Watford Gap services. Seriously, I almost ate A's jar of baby food instead! We were doing fine all the way until Brixton. When a blizzard happened. Got 2 miles from home and hit gridlock. Took 1 1/2 hours from there which included MrNC getting out 3 times to help push other cars out of the way which were skidding. We very nearly parked up and walked home but thankfully A fell asleep so we persisted. Next day turned out FIL and SIL vomited all night so the queasiness we all have may not be the service station's fault. Finally did some shopping last night and arranged who is where over Christmas. Need to decorate. Cards didn't happen. Again. One year I'll be organised enough to print address labels and notes so don't have to use hands but as is can't do more than one a day.

splish - you're round Croydon aren't you? I'd be happy to meet up after Christmas and take you out for coffee or something?

digitalgirl · 23/12/2009 15:13

NC hope you're feeling better now. Well done for making it home through the gridlock. Took DH 90mins to do the 5 minute drive home the other day.

carrie for your friend with cancer, must be so hard for her family right now.

Well my Christmas stockings are a disaster. No power lead on the sewing machine I borrowed from my mum and haven't had anytime to sew them by hand. Will try and do them tomorrow if DH is home.

Having friends round for a takeaway tonight and have only managed to Hoover the downstairs and clean the loo.

Have had 2 weeks freelance work confirmed for next month so that's a nice early Xmas pressie for me.

mamamuffin · 23/12/2009 18:42

Hi girlies

What an adventure youve been on notcitrus

Gosh your post about your friend is so sad carrie I cant imagine what they are going thru right now.

Enjoy your meal with your friends tonight dig

carri we are going to ttc in the new year. Dh incredibly broody too. I still have the implannon in my arm so need to get it taking out. I wanted to have a hugh blow out over christmas and drink and be merry :0)

Ive had a house full of 15 kids under 5 today for a big xmas party. Brave or mad?? I even got my dad to dress as santa and we did a secret santa for them. It was fab all tidyed up and looks as if no one has been. Very quiet now. Off to put boys to bed and enjoy a rather large wine. Dh at a work meal tonight so I more peace xxx

ninja · 24/12/2009 07:36

Happy Christmas if you don't get onto the computer tomorrow (although it's hard to think why you wouldn't )

M got out of her cot yesterday at nap time, DD1 found her coming down the stairs - so scary.

She's been up since 5 and is grumpy so better go.....

OP posts:
christmasgoblin · 24/12/2009 13:53

Merry Christmas to all and a peaceful New Year.

Now off to wrap presents. DD2 asleep. DD1 taken to get a previously happy turkey from the Farm.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/12/2009 15:39

All Christmas prep and gubbins have been done in the ILTMIMI household and ds is at his granny's for a few hours. Well, I say a few hours, he may be back earlier than that as he's got an infection in both ears. He's better today than he has been and he's now started anti-biots, so hopefully he will be a bit perkier tomorrow.

Proberly won't get on here again for a few days, so I wish you and yours and very Merry Christmas xxx

mamamuffin · 24/12/2009 18:26

All set here too, veg done, taties pealed and turkey prepared. House cleaned, Presents wrapped, boys bathed and fed, new pjs on. It never ends, I must have a nice wine now.

Merry Christmas everyone enjoy the special time with your children xxxx
