Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

Oh Debi C is also desperate to have what is on other plates but then won't eat it. We get pointy fingers and 'dat' 'dat' all mealtime. Have to confess we don't generally eat with her mid-week. She eats about 5.30 after nursery and we eat later. She has what we had the night before IYSWIM, so no separate meal making. At weekends, we try to eat as a family.

Oh and hopefully I too am 2lbs lighter than my pre-preg weight. Only downside is I was about 4 stone overweight before i got pregnant . I had to remind my practice nurse of that fact the other day - I said if i was a 'normal' size you'd be congratulating me for shedding all the baby weight, instead you're sucking your teeth in !!!

Your potential dress purchase is lovely - I wouldn't even get a leg into it

Hopefully · 08/12/2009 20:27

I ordered naughty expensive dress . In my defence, I got a £50 discount code by email, so it was only hideously expensive, rather than criminally expensive. Have just realised that if I fall pregnant I will have to not eat in order to get maximum use from it.

ninja · 08/12/2009 21:17

no-one's convinced me of weggins yet ...

I've found a cheap stylish clothes shop in the next village and have bought a few things now I've finally resigned myself to being half a stone heavier than I used to be. I don't think my stomach will ever be flat again and I just have to live with it - actually I just can't be bothered to try and lose it. I've spent the equivalent of Hopefully's dress in the last few months but on 7 or 8 items of clothing!!

Pony glad to hear DD better and I hope you get a well deserved rest when your DH is home

Saw DD1 in the school play today, she was Angel Gabriel (poor girl has been an angel for the last 4 years ) she spoke more clearly than anyone else so I was very proud.

ninja · 09/12/2009 18:48

well today M has ...

Climbed up DD1's chair onto the table, opened the advent calender and started eating the chocolates

Got one of the wire baubles of the Christmas tree, opened ot (no mean feat ) and you guessed it started eating the sweets

These 2 were both before work this morning

and within 5 mins of getting back to the house she emptied my plastics cupboard and got out a box on muesli and tipped it upside down then jumped on the muesli, while I was getting a dustpan and brush she.... got out the rice crispies and did the same (and the floor was fairly newly washed)

aaaaah

Sounds like you've had one of those days Ninja. It's days like that that make you sigh with relief when they're tucked up in bed

mamma - look at the info under the smileys and it will tell you how to do links.

Meglet · 09/12/2009 22:22

ninja if the floor was clean you could have just scooped all the rice krispies up and made chocolate krispy cakes with them [grin.

imoscarsmum · 09/12/2009 22:43

Am quite jealous of M's abilities ninja (even though i know how frustrating it can be!). C has managed to get as far as 'crab crawling' - crawling on her hands and feet but she still panics when i try to encourage her to walk just holding onto one of my hands - she has to hold onto both hands.
She getting quite a handful atm - think mentally she should be walking but physically can't, so lots of things she wants to do she can't, and we get screaming blue murder here.

Should I worry girls? the rest of her nursery group are all walking now and she's the only one crawling still. i know it's at their own pace, but she seems to be doing everything slowly!

And I'm also worried as i suspect MIL has been spoon feeding her at lunchtimes. A couple of weeks ago, C was ill and her appetite went completely (i mean seriously - she was eating maybe a handful of food a day and refused all bar one bottle). So during that time, DP & I and nursery gave her a little help with her food. now she's better, we've gone back to letting her eat what she wants but nursery told me today that she's become less interested in food unless they feed her. They're being really good and working with me to sort it out (TBH, think it's cos we use a fork at home and they use spoons at nursery - have you tried eating pasta with a spoon??!) but I suspect MIL is spoon feeding her on the quiet for an easier life.

My qn is - any thoughts on this and how do I tackle MIL?

(Yes, I worry too much - so DP is always saying)

Meglet · 09/12/2009 22:55

imo don't worry about your dd not walking yet. DS didn't even stand alone until he was 15 months and walk until he was 18 months. One of his little friends was just the same. I know it's frustrating when you want them to be toddling around but you might have to wait a few more weeks / months before she really gets going.

Can you 'helpfully' give your MIL a few meal ideas of easy finger food that DD can eat on her own, "oh she really likes so and so etc" just in case she is running out of ideas . Do you know if she is giving your DD baby food or just might be mashing up and spoon feeding normal food?

imoscarsmum · 10/12/2009 09:53

Ta meglet. We provide the food for MIL when she looks after her, so i know what she's eating but we did BLW with C and it went so well. MIL never got it and I now suspect she has always spoon fed C - we've just not thought of it until now

What's happened now is she's less and less keen on eating with her hands cos she knows what a spoon & fork are for and enjoys using them. Downside is, she's not that good at using them!
So she's hungry but can't get the food in her mouth so it is very easy to end up spoon feeding her, which we try very hard not to do (picture cute little girl with her mouth open like a little bird for the spoon - it's very hard not to pop the spoon in rather than place it in her bowl for her to pick up )

What are the rest of you doing regarding 'helping' LOs with feeding?

ninja · 10/12/2009 16:20

Hi Imo - the childminder knows we BLW but I know she spoon feeds some things just because being the only one in charge it's a lot easier, I don't mind as M is greedy keen enough to eat that she will get on with it at the same time.

I have to say now I do a mixture, I might spoon a bit in as she's doing it herself to lessen mess./speed things up, or sometimes I just leve her too it. She's really keen on cutlery though (which is I think ironic as she was blw) but is generally quite good with it if the food is not too sloppy.

OP posts:
mamamuffin · 10/12/2009 16:31

Snap nija I am doing a mixture of blw and spoon too. I generally allow e to do it himself in the morning, toast, crumpets, pancakes and fruit and he will entertain himself for a while and get on with it. However if I am in a rush I will spoon feed porridge or weetabix. He has just had fishcakes and spaghetti for tea which was messy but he started off with a folk then his hands then over his head . I hate picking it out of my highchair. xx

digitalgirl · 10/12/2009 20:02

Book marking.

Have had tough day. Bit of a mixed week. Job has gone so now have no work lined up after Christmas. Need a new plan of action.

Sorry to hear of shite hospital care/medical advice palavers.

DS has been a bloody nightmare today. Teething, tantruming, constant grizzling. Not helped by MIL visit. I know I should actually ask her to help me but I try and cope. It's bloody hard trying to prepare lunch for two while your pfb is purposefully smashing his own face against the tiled kitchen floor.

This afternoon he raised the stakes and started punching himself in the face. Was fully expecting his nose to start bleeding. But I guess he's a lot hardier than he looks. I'm currently sporting a fat lip from a wake-up headbutt I got this morning.

I think the SAHM honeymoon has worn off. Especially with no work on the horizon.

DebiTheScot · 10/12/2009 20:03

we do the same ninja, iom and mama.

Today ds2 learned how to turn the sky box off It was very funny as dh got more and more annoyed that Sky Sports News kept vanishing. Why did sky think it was a good idea for the on off button to light up and change colour?!

He also ran across the room with a rugby ball, put it on the table and said 'try'
We'll have him playing for Scotland soon

Meglet · 10/12/2009 21:31

dg . I hope tomorrow is better. Is your MIL still there?

I gave the dc's gnocchi for tea, I had to spear them on the spork for DD but she was able to get them into her mouth. It was quite a success .

debi aaaaaaaw, at DS2 being a little rugby player already!

splishsplosh · 10/12/2009 22:22

Haven't been on for ages, and haven't had chance to catch up yet.

Just want to wail & gnash my teeth a bit.
A few weeks ago dd2 spontaneously started sleeping better etc. Then it all went wrong. She seems to think she is a new born - last night she woke at 10, 1, 4.20, 6. The night before she was awake in my bed for about 1.5hrs, flumping about. I tried ignoring it, but 1st she developed a terrible whinging noise that she started doing in the day too, and then she moved up a notch to a succession of short sharp screams she could sustain. When she tried it in the Tesco she cleared the aisle - people literally parted like the Red Sea. So I have gone back to feeding or cuddling her back to sleep, as ignoring didn't work, and just left us both miserable.

But I'm still so tired, and grumpy

Anyway - moan over. Have seen Father Christmas at various parties & a theme park place, but she is terrified of him!

ninja · 10/12/2009 22:49

aaah yes - I'd forgotten about Santa terrifying kids until ......

Debi that's amazing

Splish you have my sympathy, M is sleeping worse and was up 3 times last night and I feel like a zombie. I still feed back to sleep

Hopefully · 11/12/2009 06:43

Morning!

Imo, T is still not even crawling properly - he has always commandoed and still does. Every now and again I think I should get him checked out, but he seems perfectly happy, he just doesn't really want to do more yet.

Impressed with all the cutlery use! T's appetite has been appalling for weeks from one illness and another, and he hasn't got the enthusiasm for cutlery. Most food ends up straight on the floor at the moment TBH. Am running out of new ideas...

DG poor you, hope you get something lined up.

becaroo · 11/12/2009 10:49

DG Sorry to hear that. Being a SAHM is not a pile of laughs some days is it?

Toby still not sleeping well - up at 5.30am again this morning but he is full of snot

Off out tonight - I know!!!! Amazing! Just too bloody knackered to be excited....

becaroo · 11/12/2009 10:56

I have a question re: the swine flu vaccine.....

Have any of your LO's had it yet? I seem to remember someone had? Toby hasnt had his letter through yet but dh and ds1 have (they are asthmatic) and are having it next thurs....

Dh then surprised me last night by questioning its safety....does anyone know anything about this? I know there have been questions recently about tamiflu but thought that the vaccine was OK????

Am now thoroughly confused....do I let them have it or not? Toby has had such a rough time health wise recently....really dont want him to get SF if I can help it.....

FuckingNinkyNonk · 11/12/2009 15:08
