Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

Oh yea and H being nicer, but tbh I haven't had the energy to ask him what's going on.

Hope your ok ninja, you sound like your having a tough time.

My night away tonight, shame about my broken foot. Have a good weekend girls catch up with you monday xx

becaroo · 21/11/2009 10:07

DG I can really sympathise with your feelings on co sleeping (and about the mc too...I am so sorry) I think you were very brave to try CC - I know I ever could, I am such a wimp.

Re: eating at the table...Toby eats all his meals at the table (in his highchair) but ds1 has his breakfast in front of the TV!! Just not worth the battle at the crack of dawn to get him to the table!!! He does eat his other meals at the table though, but he is 6 - dont worry, you have plenty of time to get him to eat at a table if thats what you want x

New Moon was FAB...it was a bit weird swooning over such young men, but I dont care...go team jacob!!!!!

becaroo · 21/11/2009 10:15

ninja Gosh, what a bad time you are having at the moment....sorry to hear about your grandma. Glad dh is being nicer to you though.

I am horrified at the thought of SATS tbh....ds1 is a summer baby (is your dd?) and it has really been an issue for him as some of the kids in his class are 9 months older than him. He has always seemed "younger" than his peers somehow...he doesnt like a lot of the stuff that boys his age are "supposed" to like eg: super heroes like power rangers, computer games, rough play...he just likes watching TV programmes about animlas (the fiercer the better!) and machines, playing outside with his dad and lots of make believe about being jungle animals (I am often to be fund on the floor pretending to be some sort of creature!)

I really dont see the point of testing them so young...its ridiculous. The head knows my feelings about it, but she is all for testing as the better SATS results the school gets, the more funding

Toby has been sick this morning...brought his milk back up straight away and has had the runs since yesterday but he is cutting a molar...could that make him sick do you think? He has also caught ds1's cold too....looks like its going to be a fun weekend!!!!!

ninja · 21/11/2009 14:16

Hi becaroo - yes DD1 is a May baby and she likes nothing better than to dress up or play with dolls. She's not bad at school in that she likes to obey the rukles, but SATS are just crazy.

I keep hoping they'll just abandon them at the last minute.

OP posts:
becaroo · 21/11/2009 14:24

I know what you mean - ds1 behaviour is very good, he just hates it. He finds it very voring most of the time and as for testing him!....well, its mad

Toby now has a REALLY sore bottom...can I put hydrocortizone on it til monday when I can get to a GP?

eandz · 21/11/2009 18:37

Ninja
i liked your all meat no veg, now no meat all veg-ness. I feel there might be hope.

ninja · 21/11/2009 20:33

Yes - I always use myself as an example of someone who was incredibly fussy with food, (and in fact then had an eating disorder in my 20's) and now eat very healthily and normally (well I eat like a pig, I love my food).

I think for a year I survived on fruitcake and scrambled egg so my mum says .

My parents were very into the right foods and my mum's a great cook, so it isn't the parents.

There is hope

Kagey · 21/11/2009 21:36

I was a terribly fussy eater as a child but got better as I got older, and now eat anything . DH is really fussy, I am hoping Erin takes after DH for the early years and like me (but with no weaknesses for chocolate!).

I was supposed to be going up to the Lake District today until Wednesday, but due to the bad weather we have put it off until tomorrow.

Oh and I nearly forgot, we exchanged contracts on Monday and completed and Thursday so the big move begins next weekend .

imoscarsmum · 22/11/2009 10:07

becaroo had T had his MMR recently? C's had a bad bottom and the HV said she might 3 weeks after the jab.

Just passing by, Eandz good to hear from you - I keep up with you on FB. Try not to worry (though 2nd the comment re Pringles - they are really salty) and just keep offering food that you cook - he'll get it one day. They pick up on your worry, so try to stay relaxed.

In awe of Foxy - FT work, 2 DC and DH away. I find it hard and DP is only away about one week in every 10 and we only have C!

C stood for about 3secs yesterday, unaided.

And ninja come live in Wales! They scrapped SATS about 3 or 4 years ago and up to 6 or 7 yrs kids still do learning though play at school.

notcitrus · 22/11/2009 11:59

ninja - the worse all the kids do in Y1 SATs, the better the school will look at stage 2! Might it help to remind ds that SATs are supposed to test the teachers not him? Although lots of schools seem to have forgotten that bit... a friend is doing research on what people think of Ofsted so I can rant at her next week.

eandz good to hear from you and glad N is thriving. I was really fussy about textures as a child and then hit puberty and got really adventurous in my eating. Family have one fussy eater who survived for about 6 years on potato, cheese and tomato pizza, and the odd glass of orange juice. Dietician said the best thing was to just keep him away from junk food as much as possible, maybe give a multivitamin, but just relax and wait for him to grow up - and teach him how to put his food in the oven to cook if he wasn't going to eat the family dinner (age 7). Now 12 he's willing to try most things and eats an average range of blandish food - and all along has been way healthier than his siblings who have 'perfect' diets.

A had the swine flu jab yesterday - turned out he'd been invited early by mistake but as we'd waited 45 min and they are rolling it out now to all under-5s, he had it anyway. We're part of the post-licencing research on reactions to it so I've been given a thermometer, ruler, and diary to fill in for the next week. So far there's zero reaction round the jab site, no temp, and he was a little sleepier and less hungry than usual but that could be the nasty cough he's got. He guzzled lots of milk though.

I used to work in the main research centre where they study H1N1 (and lived 20 yards from the Level 4 containment facility with the virus) so I'm very nervous about the virus and pretty confident in the vaccine contents. And don't want A to catch any lurgy like the one he's just had if at all possible, both for his sake and for my sleep!

ninja · 22/11/2009 12:54

That's interesting NC I was wondering whether to give M the vaccine.

You are right about the SATS - it doesn't help the kids getting nervous tho' and they KNOW that there's an assessment. Last year she showed NO progress in the assessments they did (she's in a year 1/year 2 class)

Hello all.

Blimey, what a day!

Toby deteriorated this morning - couldnt even keep water down - so we took him to the em docs and they sent him to A&E - he was dehydrated and had gone down hill FAST...anyway, after a while they said they were going to admit him but then dh and I managed to get a cup of dioralyte down him (via syringe) and he kept it down so evetually they let us home.

Glad he is home, but still worried. He has his MMR 2 weeks ago IOM Feel so sorry for him, he only had gastroenteritis 4 weeks ago and now he has got it again! Am hoping we dont all get it like last time

Off to change his nappy AGAIN. They have given us some stuff called metatanium to put on his bum....evil smelling stuff.

NC Are all babies going to be called for the swine flu vaccine then???

mamamuffin · 22/11/2009 15:11

Hi guys
Yes I think all babies are going to get the jab now but probably be called after xmas now. Poor toby hope he feels better soon. Watch the metanium though it stains everything.
I am back from my night away. It was lovely and restful. My mum said the boys slep thru no problems. dont know if I believe her. I was surprised about how full my boobs where over night! I woke with massive boobs and a wet patch (sorry tmi) I underestimated how much E gets off me at night. xxx

yes becaroo the plan is to give all under-5s the swine flu jab soon, once all the higher-risk people are done. My GP said they'd be under way in about 3 weeks.

People at work are involved with arranging all the amounts of vaccines and other drugs for farm animals and ensuring there's meds available nationally if a manufacturer goes bust, so it's quite interesting following how it's arranged for humans!

Hope Toby gets better soon.

DebiTheScot · 22/11/2009 19:54

nc interesting comments about vaccine. When I heard the news say kids are going to get it I thought- bugger that means I'll need to research it now! I thought I'd heard a comment somewhere about there not being as much research into it as there should be but now I think about it that could have been the cervical cancer one.

Most schools round here seperate infant and junior so in those there will be pressure to make the ks1 sats levels good. The problem we have at work is most of the schools spend so long coaching them for the ks2 sats that they get levels higher than they really are and then we have parents on our backs in yr7 when they drop.

splishsplosh · 22/11/2009 20:54

Starlight - why did you want to contact me? Only person in know on here in RL (other than meeting NC & Carrie once, and London pre baby meet) is on the SN board with you, not sure of her name tho, maybe something like nyrrem.

Tried posting on here a few times but keeps not working

splishsplosh · 22/11/2009 20:59

OK - it's working for once!
Sympathy to DG re mc - know how horrible that is
Also sympathy to Starlight and Debs - had SS involved a couple of times myself, as automatically contacted when I called the police because of ex

sorry to hear about the ill babies, and sleep problems.
dd2 has had some diarrhoea this week, other babies in the house have had vomiting as well. She had her MMR on Wednesday and was a bit miserable since. She's been feeding more at night, waking more - but this am I found her 5th tooth poking through, so hopefully things will improve again. Because until recently she'd suddenly become so much easier at night - I could put her in the coct awake & she'd sleep! She slept through or only woke once! Then last night was stropping properly whenever put her into cot

Hi Starlight - have done

Debs75 · 22/11/2009 22:06

Those that are ill do you think it could be the jabs?
Don't want to start and scarmongering but robyn had her booster then 2 weeks later she had a vomit thing that lasted a week. She is due her HIB C in a couple of weeks but you can tell she has lost weight so might postpone it a bit. Then she is due her MMR but we have already postponed that until she is 2 at least and now there is a flu jab?
Not sure about that will have to research it. I've just had my normal flu jab due to asthma and I felt a bit crap for a few days.

On a lighter note DS has broken our car.
Not an easy feat when you realise it is a huge Kia Sedona and weighs about 2 tonne. After I parked it on Saturday he dived into the front seat and took the handbrake off, it is a stupid switch near the gearswitch and you just pull on it. Our drive is on a slope and the car started to roll whith the driver door open. I couldn't hold it back, yes I tried to stop a 2 tonne car on a slope, or get in to put the brake on so we rolled into the gate and wall and almost tore my door off. Luckily it stopped the car and I could then get in to stop it and park it back on the drive. Even more luckily robyn was blissfully unaware as she was still strapped in her car seat.
Managed to shut my door but now I can't open it so we have to wait till tomorrow for the Car Clinic to pick it up and drop off our courtersy car. Have been told it will prob be a Ford Ka, kinda like getting out a jumbo jet and into a microlite. The thing is we have loads of appointments to go to with DS this week so need something he won't destroy.

debs75 my little brother did the exact same thing when he was two, except the car ended up in the neighbors pool-- but he was safe and sound, just wet and a little shaken. it was back in the ancient times of station wagons that had the brakes next to the steering wheel.

it was the scariest thing we'd ever seen, especially for a 2 yr old to do.

eandz · 23/11/2009 12:12

ohh, whats everyone having for lunch? i was soo hungry i just stuck everything i had in a pot and am wondering if the gift of imagination will make it taste nice.
