cross post with effie, very sorry about your Grandpa, glad you made it so say your goodbyes .

As to your DH - if the housework isn't to his standard, he can bloody do it himself or get a cleaner.

Kayzr · 04/02/2010 11:06

Just popping in to say hi to Snowwombat too. The Dec 08 girls often think of you too.

venetianred · 04/02/2010 11:11

effie - did you see my comment to skillbo about education. I think it is more an issue of style and content.

About 5 years ago someone told me that NZ education was rated 3rd in the world. However, I can see the differences with UK system - in UK initially a broader variety of subjects taught in a more structured manner from a young age and more exam focused. It's a while since I've lived in NZ but I think they start off with more more open plan, play structured learning and probably put more emphasis on environment and activities etc. I think it turns out well rounded individuals, but we didn't cover as many of the English classic books for example nor even much of the 'classics' which to an English person, they might see those kinds of things as essential to a solid education, hey, but you can encourage these things at home!

I know NZers leading large companies and doing well all around the world and they all went to state funded primary schools first not exceptionally expensive private schools. NZ schools do not teach children how to sit and pass exams on a wide variety of subjects, they teach an approach to life and to anything they do, that will help them no matter whether they become a plumber or a scientist - I think that is the difference (I realise I sound biased - maybe a bit impassioned!!)

venetianred · 04/02/2010 11:15

oh - I forgot to say - so sorry about your Grandpa and stuff the PTA!

Effielou · 04/02/2010 12:38

venetian It sounds a fab way of learning- sometimes in this country- well in Imis school- the main focus is leagues and tables and passing sats- rather than the individual and enjoying school we've been told that we can't take the kids out of school in may ( which I don't generally do) as its sats month, but its my Dads 60th and he lives in Guernsey we have already booked a long weekend there- so I would prob get in trouble!!! So the NZ systems sounds good to me!
Thanks for the insight xxxxxx

Thank-you aswell for the kind message and I agree-- stuff them xxx

Afternoon all

Had a terrible night last night Sarah was up every hour She has been exposed to the chickenpx virus, my nephew has it and we were all at a christening on sunday so now expecting Sarah to get it too. She has been boiling all night and all day. Think I'll take her to the GP however I wouldn't want to expose other babies to the virus so dont know what i should do

june I am on the Pill, microgynon, and periods are always very regular on this will hold off for another day or two before wasting another test. With regards to VBAC and ELC I am seriously considering going for a VBAC next time round. I would love the exerience of a natural birth, however I am scared that this will lead into yet another emergency section. Will give this more thought when i'm pregnant again

effie sorry to hear about everything happening at the moment, esp your Granda dying ((hugs)) and poor Flynn hope he gets better soon x

snow is that you back in the UK for good or you going back out to Oz?

gauchita hope you got the visas sorted for your trip

Well I had a neck scan at the hospital yesterday as for months and months I have had this lump in my neck and it's getting bigger. The GP thought it was an underactive thyroid so sent me for a scan. At the scan however I was told its not an underactive thryoid but the biggest cyst they have seen on the thyroid gland. However they cannot rule out the possibility of it being a tumor Need to wait for 1 week now before i get to see my GP and hear the results so this is going to be one long week, and period still now came yet and have bloated feeling that i had when pregnant with Sarah so what else is going to happen to me...nothing but drama in lauraloo's life lol

bigcar · 04/02/2010 13:25

laura, gps generally don't do anything for chicken pox, just advise calamine and calpol when needed, if that is what she has. I would ring the surgery in your position and see what they want you to do. Our surgery will sit you in a different area to everyone else if you think you have something highly contagous

Gauchita · 04/02/2010 13:29

Hello all!

Lots to catch up but I'm now on my laptop so it's much easier

We came back yesterday evening and were all in bed by 8pm M was a star and slept straight up to 1.30 which was great as it gave me some hours to rest. The trip definitely changed some of her hours though as she skipped her morning nap this am so we'll have to now adjust it with the days.

Effie, I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa Glad you managed to say goodbye. Erm, sometimes DHs need to be reminded they ARE allowed to chip in with housework And to the woman from the PTA, come on lady, get a grip! Venetian said it well

Venetian, it's a good plan but be sure you have a good rest before Thanks for that info re. nurseries. I've heard about authorities being anal about paperwork but to grade them lower because of it seems a bit harsh.

Snow, Glad to hear A is much better now wrt his sleep Hope his cough clears soon. I'm THAT goofy I didn't know A was your DS2! (or maybe I read your post wrong ) Your life in Australia sounds like absolute bliss! Sun, sand, BBQs oh my!

June, we decided to pay the congestion charge and park the car one block away from the embassy. We got there at 5.30 (loads of roadworks on the way so we didn't know how to calculate the time) so we had time and we were going to freeze otherwise. I waited in the car so it was not too bad They are strict, but people are sooooooooo bad at following even the most basic rules sometimes that I don't blame them (on a page they send you by email and that you have to bring with you for the appointment it says what you are allowed to bring into the embassy and what not, you'd be amazed at the number of people in the queue who were told to go to a place to store them because they had brought all sorts of prohibited items ). Glad to hear your cold is better.

Hi to all Juners!

Snow has returned. It started on Tuesday afternoon and yesterday was quite heavy. Not too impressed as I don't want to be stuck again but hopefully it won't settle.

It's so foggy outside it looks like we're on an 1800s London tale

Waves!!!

Gauchita · 04/02/2010 13:34

xpost!

Laura, will be thinking of you all week. Everything crossed for you for the results to be good. (((hug))) Hope S feels better soon, ringing GP sounds sensible.

Snow, sorry forgot to answer you, yes, all the visas are sorted (both UK and M's US) now and I'll not be travelling to any place where we need one any time soon!

snowwombat · 04/02/2010 13:53

laura you are really having a bad day.Hope sarah's temp ok. What a worry for you with your neck lump. I hope the week passes v quickly and the results are good.
As to where we will live when we grow up-still undecided!

gauchita DS1 was due Dec 08, hence the visit from some of the girls from that thread. My waters broke at 20 wks,I delivered him and he lived for 15mins . He is my first born despite his short time on earth and so A is DS2. Sorry for the confusion.

bigcar · 04/02/2010 14:04

afternoon all

argh, one day I WILL learn to spell

snow, E has slept much better the last 2 nights. I however haven't, think I've got used to him being unsettled and have been awake E is a bit of a hooligan as well, although that name is mostly reserved for dd3 at the moment!

skill, good to hear work is good, hot cup of tea, now what would that be? E has the red cheeks thing, sometimes just one, sometimes both, I've put it down to teething.

june, did you have a good catch up with your friends? Hope you've managed to catch up with yourself now

gauchita, sitting in the car doesn't sound good, hope they weren't too long and it's all now sorted.

venetian, interesting to hear about the differences in education here and in NZ! I think over here we start them off officially learning much earlier than most european countries. We seem to have started being a lot less structured recently in that more emphasis is now being put on the value of learning through play rather than pushing the reading and writing before some of the children are in any way ready for it. Reception at the dcs school is certainly much more play based than it ever used to be. For me personally this is a good thing! After that though it goes straight back to sats and league tables, not good, but I won't start on that one now!

effie, so sorry to hear about your grandpa ((((hugs)))) Hope F is feeling better, E had some interesting gunk coming out of his ear yesterday, hoping that's the end of his ear infection. at the pta lady, she's all heart, stuff em! Our school have said they won't be allowing any time off either, pita although I have taken them out in previous years, can't afford a holiday otherwise.

laura, oh, dear, it's not going well is it, fingers crossed the lump turns out to be a cyst. Maybe the stress of everything isn't helping with the regular periods?

I've made an appointment with a midwife to go through my notes next week. Found the phone number completely by chance on the hospital website yesterday, it's not a service they seem to advertise, certainly didn't hear about it ante or postnatally so now I'm rather panicking about it and wished I hadn't phoned. Stupid really, can't get any worse!

we've got a meeting after school with the lady in charge of dd3s care in school today, we need to tweek a few things, think it's going to be a bit of a battle!

waves to all

venetianred · 04/02/2010 14:06

gauchita - the idea is 2 is a good or very good nursery, but to be exceptional you need to 'tick all the boxes'. That is why you should always look at 1's and 2's.

laura - sorry to hear about lump. Hope it isn't causing you too much worry.

bigcar · 04/02/2010 14:10

snow, I hadn't realised A was your ds2 either. So sorry to hear about your ds1 ((((hugs))))

June2009 · 04/02/2010 19:22

Effie sorry about your grandpa I know what you mean about him not seeing your little one, it's hard.
Snow that must have been such a horrid thing to live through {{hugs}}.
bigcar I asked for my notes today, they're sending me the form, they also told me it could be up to £50 cheeky bastards. I'll go there and photocopy it myself. I had already scanned all the pages before the actual labour.
I hope E's ears clear up before he has to go back for testing.
Good luck with the midwife, have you received your notes already then? Maybe it'll be nice for to chat to someone once you've had a look?
dh doesn't actually understand why I want my notes, I haven't told him it mightn't be free either!

laura argh, I had to get a lump scanned in my breast a few years ago and it turned out to be nothing serious. It's very scary, I hope everything turns out ok for you.
I thought about you today we went to a massive pound shop and they had pregnancy tests for 99p.

Gauchita · 05/02/2010 10:43

Morning all!

Snow, so sorry to hear about DS1 ((hug)) I didn't mean to be nosey, I'm sorry.

June, hope you manage to get hold of your notes without too much red tape. I admit I saw and bought those pregnancy tests myself last year but of course I didn't trust them so when I saw a positive line I went to Tesco and bought the well known brand and spent £11 Oh well...

Bigcar, hope the meeting with the MW to go through the notes goes well and gives you the answers you're looking for How was the meeting with DD3's school lady?

Hi to all Juners!

M slept quite well last night after a very odd day with all hours and meals switched. She took her nap this morning but is now quite grumpy so I must go now... Back later!!!!

snowwombat · 05/02/2010 14:14

gauchita no need to apologise. thanks for the hugs.As you can imagine it is very hard to talk about DS1 in public, particularly moving somewhere new, where no one knows what happened.I am very happy to be able to mention him here.

just a quick post, A's cheese on toast under the grill.hope you all ok today x

MrsMcJnr · 05/02/2010 14:54

Scary scary where is time going?? Don?t know when I last posted but it feels like ages ago. All fine here ? well both kids have had colds and coughs, Aaliyah?s 9th tooth is pushing through and she is up on her knees to crawl now. She is pretty grumpy at the moment but I think that is to do with the lack of sleep ? sigh and the fact that she hardly eats anything. I have tried so many different foods but all she will eat is apple puree and yoghurt. I bought her an amber teething necklace the other day ? it seems to be making a difference. For those of you on Facebook I?ll send you a link. So how are you all??

MrsMcJnr · 05/02/2010 15:05

3 pages to read

Venetianred ? I remember your passion for photography now and the fabulous bump shots you did Scrabble night sounds like it could be a new event for Desperate Housewives I love that programme but it does make me realise how much I miss my neighbours and friends in Scotland ? we had an unspoken rule that if you saw someone in their front garden having a drink you got yourself over there smartish with some gin Here ? well I have christened the development we live in Hotel California as most of the residents are retired and in their 50s and 60s, have all the time in the world and spend their days bithching and sunbathing with a few bottles of wine ? highly entertaining for the onlooker but not what I want to be doing at this stage in life! I loved my couple of hours of reading last Sat I must say this week I have to take DS to his twin friends? birthday 2nd birthday party instead So glad to hear things are so good with you and DP things are a bit better here, we are both trying hard to be considerate and that makes life a lot nicer for all. Was at an Ann Summers party last night and it seriously made me worry about my lack of libido ? I have none at all but I think that?s down to the lack of sleep and quite frankly the breast feeding. I just don?t see myself as a sexual being at the moment DH and DS did have a good time in Scotland but by all accounts DH was to tired looking after DS to do much other than veg when he was down so I think he appreciates how full on my life is

Out of time ? more later

bigcar · 05/02/2010 17:30

afternoon all

june, my dh doesn't get it either but then he's moved on and he's not the one that lost a large chunk of time or had to go through it all. It can't have been easy for him to be the spectator but . . . . . That's what they told me, £25 to start with then up to another £25 if there is a lot to do, which there is for me as I asked for all my notes not just Es so I'll let you know what happens, haven't heard anything yet. I'm sure I read somewhere they have 4 weeks in which to copy everything and I'm already 2 weeks in although I don't think it'll be done by my appointment next week, I thought if I didn't ring on the spur of the moment then I probably never would as I'd wind myself up something chronic over doing it.

gauchita, the meeting went ok, I think I got my point across and didn't agree with everything that was said, only time will tell, we'll see if there's any change with her 1:1 worker, she's the biggest problem! Glue ear is fluid in the middle ear, behind the ear drum which stops the ear drum moving and causes the hearing loss. It's something that is usually worse over the winter when children are full of colds etc and is normally grown out of by about the age of 6/7. If it continues it will mean a referral to ENT and possibly grommets to allow the fluid to drain. Is M back into her normal routine today?

snow, how did A like the cheese on toast?

MrsMcJnr, lovely to see you So many teeth A has now! E wasn't good with eating anything other than fruit, he'd gag on it and heave and that was with puree we just kept trying every meal time with some veg (tried to make sure it was the same/similar veg mix each time) probably only 1 or 2 spoonfuls but eventually he started eating it. We also gave him some of the Ellas kitchen pouches that are fruit and veg mixed which he was happier with as they are largely fruit and only a small amount of veg. I think my libido's gone limbo dancing, really not that interested, at the moment I'd rather have a nice cuppa and a bit of chocolate, not good eh?!

laura, how's S and you today, any improvement ((((hugs))))

busy day again here, gps with E about his chest this morning. She thinks he has another chest infection so back on abs 4 times a day, it's a good job he quite likes them now! As this is his 4th lot in as many months she sent him for a chest xray so we had a trip to the hospital this afternoon as well. Again E was a star, didn't complain at all about having to be held in an odd position and strapped to a chair, bought back memories of doing the same with dd3! Back to the gp in 2 weeks time for another check and the xray results, lovely as it falls in half term and it'll be a trog out with all the dcs, oh the fun

evening all

sam sorry to hear about your DH's uncle and those poor kids losing their dad a such a young age ((hugs)) and prayers to you all x

bigcar poor E with his chest infection hope the abs help him ((hugs))

june I saw those pregnancy tests too and bought a pack, still coming back negative tho but today i've had mild cramping and metallic taste in mouth like i did with S so will test again in a few days.

gauchita great that M slept last night after the shake up to her routine hope she settles back into routine ok x

snow was sorry to read about your DS1 must still be hard to think about ((hugs))

mrsmcjnr nice to hear from you again, have read some of your updates on fb can't believe A has 9 teeth! I'm still waiting on S's first tooth to come through. I can see all her gums are swollen, I think once one tooth has came thro the others will be quick to follow....i saw hoping and praying!

BIG hi's and hugs to the rest of the lovely juners!

No change in S today, if anything she is worse but still no spots so that must be a good thing right? It's a sin tho she is boiling I mean her body is so warm I find it uncomfortable to hold her the doc came out to see her and told me it is likely the chickenpox virus thats in her system, however wont know until spots appear and i've just to give her calpol, I thought she would have been given abs to help. She didn;t sleep last night so in 3 days i've had around 9 hours sleep what with dealing with S and the worry about my neck! Also still no period having slight cramps and metallic taste in mouth however still getting negative results. I'm due to go back onto the Pill on monday after my 7 pill free days so what do i do if tests still come back negative on sunday?

Sorry for the long post just dont know who to ask about this, cant ask family as if i am pregnant i dont want to tell family as me and DH will be 'judged' and can't handle what people will say/think about it. When you're away from the board I kinda forgot how helpful and understanding you all are, will be on here every night (hopefully) from now on xxx

venetianred · 05/02/2010 22:29

So sorry strawb. My DH's auntie died too last week, so yes, it seems to be a rough time. Thankfully she was very old, and had been very sick, and without children, so she may be happier floating around on her little 'painfree' cloud (I hope).

MrsMcJnr - great to hear all your news. I will reply soon. Just repairing DD's Snow White costume and then to bed for me.

snow - it makes me so sad reading your post. Is it something you like to talk about or is the pain still too much? I don't know that I could bear the pain and you have all the hugs I can give. I hope he is also on his little happy cloud, looking down on his little sister.

laura - why will you be judged by family. Because of your PND? How is that going. Are you trying to get pregnant? I am the old d5 - this is my new name.

lauraloo09 · 06/02/2010 11:46

hiya venetian I was wondering who you were lol. I feel i would be judged for having children so close to each other. I'm not trying to get pregnant again but if it happens it would be great. my PND is better still have low days but good days now outweigh the bad I took another test this morning and it was negative again just dont know what to do by the time monday comes if tests are still negative do i go back onto the pill.

S slept better last night, got 5 hours sleep so thats much better than 3!

venetianred · 06/02/2010 14:38

Have you been having regular periods the past few months?

lauraloo09 · 06/02/2010 15:13

yeah all periods have been regular. last sunday i thought my period was starting early as had some bleeding but barely enough to fill a pad and it stopped after a couple of hours, in this bleed i had brown mucus discharge kinda like a show...i'm so confused lol
