Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
June2009 · 09/12/2009 13:23

thanks for your messages, C was much better yesterday evening, we even gave her diluted milk and she was still ok. her rash was much better this am.

However back to full on formula this am and after 4oz she did a big runny poo so went back to GP who said to just carry on the diet of no milk or very little milk and more solids. The milk is upsetting the relining of the stomach, also got more rehydrating pwder.
I've just given her a bit of diluted milk and hope it's going to be ok.
going to supermarket now to get more banana and nappies (maybe asking for trouble since I just gave her milk but I can't put it off much longer).

snow i haven't heard of that cream but i'll have a look if it gets any worse thanks.

Right, GP booked C in for her swine flu jab next week, anyone else got offered it? do you know if there are any contra-indications?
I generally don't question jabs, this one is new though and i'm not up to scratch with news etc, is it controversial at all?

bigcar · 09/12/2009 14:30

afternoon all

time is just vanishing at the moment so will have to post and run!

june, there is a whole swine flu topic under health, would have a look there, hope C is better soon

amy, we will be continuing with exclusive bf for now. Have to agree with doris on ff and the whole advertising thing! I may decide to add a bit of formula at a later date, all Es feeding is leaving me permanently starving at the moment, will see how things go!

E still has his chest infection and is on a second lot of antibiotics now, he's ok in himself, quite happy and feeding well, no temp. I've had a rotten allergic reaction to something so my eyes are totally bloodshot and puffy and I'm really itchy, soooo attractive!

must dash, school fair this afternoon so have to get myself organised as well as raiding the hole in the wall for cash on the way, oh the joys Dd3 did her christmas performance yesterday, was sooo sweet seeing all the nursery sat on the edge of the stage

waves to all

bigcar · 09/12/2009 14:33

june, here

Naat · 09/12/2009 15:38

Hi all!

Bigcar, ouch, hope your eyes get better soon. What did you react to? Does the reaction last long? GLad to hear E is getting better. Awww all the LOs must have looked so cute!

June, glad to hear C is better. I guess you'll continue diluting the milk for now. I read some very heated threads about pg women who were suggested to get the shot... but I don't know too many facts, TBH. I'll read the link bigcar posted.

Doris, ohh yes, and it's not just here... my sister used to work for a pharmaceutical company and boy do they convince brainwash their employees. It didn't take much with my sister, she herself didn't bf my nephew as she said her boobs would be going south immediately after and she didn't want that Mums feel really sad when they for one reason or another cannot BF and there she was full of milk and deciding not to for aesthetic reasons When M was 2-3 months old she kept asking me when I would start giving her baby juices as breastmilk would not be enough. She was amazed I was bfing full time, and by choice, instead of - in her words - switching to formula and being able to sleep all night I was told by the HV that I could continue BFing M until either she self-weaned or I decided to stop, that I didn't need to switch to other milk.

Amy, did you get those questions from the same relatives/friends that kept telling you when C was about 3 months your milk would not be enough soon after that and that you needed to think about formula? As far as I know you can continue until you choose to (or until C wishes to) so if you want to continue BFing, be strong Sending you strong thoughts from here

Snow, oh yes, cooking in batches is great, if only I would get round to do it! I very sweetly told DH yesterday he needed to try and manage without me when he was trying to let me work He got the message and I think he was a bit as well That guacamole sounds fab!!! Well done A eating chilli!!

Mrsmc, we're also trying a cup here, she's not got the hang of it yet but she refuses to drink anything that is not milk from a bottle Babies!

Skillbo, glad to hear your boob is getting better Hope the lunch goes well... was it to talk about work? or just with people from work? (nosey emoticon)

Hi to all Juners!!

Not a good night last night. M was up every 2 hours Today she woke up super tired, of course, and was very whiney all morning. I ended up taking her for a walk so that she would fall asleep! I finished all the translations, fortunately but I'm feeling quite tired Also, and I know this is silly so don't hit me too hard, I don't want to complain much in front of DH as I feel he's going to suggest cc again or something similar... Urgh, I'm tired and rambling, ignore me!

Hope you're having a nice day, lovely Juners!

Waves!!!

worriedamy · 09/12/2009 17:39

naat I know how you feel about not wanting to complain infront of people, that exactly how I feel with my mum Dont get me wrong, she is a huuuuge help, but unfortunatley, she is typical of her generation re: weaning and breastfeeding. It got to the stage where I didn't want to tell her that Caelan hadn't slept through the night because I knew it would either be because he wasn't having solids yet, or was because he wasn't in his own room yet, etc etc. People only mean well, and I know my mum was only trying to think up reasons for why he wasn't sleeping, and trying to help me get some sleep, but it can get a bit frustrating cant it? Arrgh, I had the damn hairdresser the other week telling me how her LO was on solids at 6 weeks because he was having 9 ozs from week one and she kept saying about Caelan 'oh the poor thing, your still breastfeeding him? Oh he must be starving. Oh the poor thing, look at him, he's so tiny. Oh give him a bottle, the poor thing'. Very very annoying.

Poor little Mila, she must be tired x Sometimes I find that Caelan sleeps better at night when he has had a couple of good naps in the day... strangley it seems that the more sleep (or proper blocks of sleep, as opposed to napping here and there if I am out) actually mean he sleeps better at night. Also, I find that it only takes a drop in temperature by 1 or 2 degrees, and Caelan is more unsettled; maybe it was a bit colder last night??

June Sorry Calypso is still not too well has the GP said how long he wants her to go without properly having milk before considering an alternative for her? Sorry if you have already mentioned this in an earlier post- I forget my name these days!

Bigcar ooh I wonder what you have reacted badly to? Hope its starting to clear up? Have you took some antihistamines? It must be really nice for you with all your DC all spread out like they are, you are getting to appreciate each stage all at the same time!! So is the uni that your eldest DC has been accepted to near? Will she be living in halls or traveling in do you think? I stayed at home to go to uni and sooooo regret it. You miss out so much!

Hi snow yeh, I try to get out to as many of the little baby activity things as possible!! There is nothing around here at all, its the most depressing little town! I look forward to Wednesdays because we go to 'Mini Movers', which is great! We do a bit of 'circle time' and then the younger babies get to go into the multi-sensory room, which Caelan loves!! I don't know if you have seen one yourself? It has all LEDs in there, and light tubes, 'floaty' music, and all funny looking and sounding toys for the babies to play with! Caelan is currently upstairs zonked after coming home, he really likes it!

skillbo hope the lanisoh does its job! I so can't be arsed expressing, its so boring!! Unfortunatley Caelan takes about 9ozs in a bottle, so it eats up all my store if I go out for a night!! I went for my work xmas do on Saturday, fed Caelan at 6 before I went out, and in between that feed and him going to sleep at about half 11, he had two 9 ozs bottles!! I'm out for my football xmas do on Thursday, and I only have 310mls, so have got to get off about another 8ozs between now and then, snore!! I hate it! I try to do it first thing in the morning, but if Caelan has had a bad night, I usually don't bother, and opt for getting another 45 mins sleep!

Eurgh, feel crap today, got a right cold, and as I was just saying, I have my football xmas do tomorrow night, which I have been looking forward to for weeks. Bloody typical I hardly ever get to go out these days, and when I get the chance, I have a damn cold! Before I got pregnant, it used to take me about 3 days to get through a cold, from first sniffles, to it going. Now however, my immune system seems to be as shot at as the rest of me, and it takes me a good week! Trying not to complain too much though, because no doubt DP will get it, and (obv. ) it will be much worse, and I will have no grounds to mock him if I have complained just as bad!! Am I right in thinking the antibodies I will produce to fight this cold will be given to Caelan in my milk? So he will have a fighting chance of not getting the cold??

worriedamy · 09/12/2009 17:43

Oh and June!!! I was looking through this thread the other day, as it was in my 'I'm watching' page. How long ago does this seem??!! Wow, it was 10 months ago! So glad things were all okay for us all!

worriedamy · 09/12/2009 17:45

Oh, and I think I am considering a name change!!! I want a more optimistic name! I dont want to be 'worried' anymore!! And name-changing seems to be all the rage around here!

whenskiesaregrey · 09/12/2009 17:48

woop, I namechanged!! Worriedamy is no more! How emotional!

June2009 · 09/12/2009 23:54

hey skies nice one for the name change, I think I may change mine at some point too!

I never realised it was you on that thread, I hope my post was helpul at the time. That was a really worrying time for us.

The GP has been very vague about how long he wants us to dilute the milk for. She has been better today soft poo but not diarrhea.(I dont remember what her poo used to be like :S)
Will try and up the dose of milk tomorrow. I think we're going to keep her on solids at least twice a day from now on.

mil always has advice about lo too, she keeps saying she thinks it's the banana that is giving C diarrhea. (it definitely is not.)
sil and mil were here yesterday and today, it's tiring. I had 4 missed calls and a text from mil when i got back from meeting the other mums and she was at ours when i got back.

mil was telling me today how I could give C some lightly cooked egg yolk . I just said, "yeah" whatever.

I really don't get what some people have against bf and how they can say that the baby must be starving, how do they think babies used to do before formula was invented ?!!??!??

bigcar thanks for the link, I think I definitely want to do the jab. do you know what may have caused your allergic reaction?
hope you had fun at the fair!

naat wow I hope that M sleeps better tonight, it's really hard to function with that little uninterrupted sleep.

mrsmc I think I got my period today, either that or just some random light bleeding.
I'm not sure when I'm supposed to be on my period with this new pill, you take it everyday without a break. Does it just happen at anytime then??

tee how is it going, we don't hear from you anymore!

Can't beleive it's almost midnight already, C's just fallen asleep about 20 minutes ago.
i very tired and need to get up early tomorrow.

speak to you soon, sorry for the ones I missed!

whenskiesaregrey · 10/12/2009 12:44

June is the GP not worried about reducing her milk for a prolonged period of time? I'm suprised he has not offered some kind of time frame for you! Does he think it is just a temporary irritation of her stomach, or an alergy of some kind? And re: banana, I always understood it would have the opposite effect?!! I know Annabel Karmel recommends a diet of banana to clear up runny pooes!! Poor Calypso, I hope she feels better soon! And I don't know how you cope with your MIL, it would drive me insane! Does she not realise how totally overbearing she is being?!?! Was she like this before Calypso was born?

Doris sorry I didn't reply to you in my earlier post!! I have seen 'The Politics of Breastfeeding' mentioned quite a few times on MN!! It is quite scary when you think how much of our thoughts are controlled by clever marketing! My degree was in Psychology, focusing on Education, but I also find the psychology of consumer marketing very interesting! It does make you wonder what else we are conned into thinking we need, when we dont really! I got sent a sachet of Heinz follow-on milk through the post the other day

I'm off out tonight, can't wait!! Out with my friends from football, so lots of lesbian pint drinking always a good night!! I obviously can't have too much, but looking forward to the Christmas meal! I have ordered christmas pudding for my desert... I dont know why, I do it every year, and I dont even like it!! Its a Christmas thing!! I think its about time we had some Christmas smileys!

Naat · 10/12/2009 19:28

Hi all!

Skies, ohhh have fun!! LOL at lesbian pint drinking I know what you mean re. naps... if she sleeps little during the day the doesn't sleep well at night. I thought that if she was really really tired she would but nope, it doesn't work that way it seems You made me giggle with the namechange, you said you wanted to be more positive! I like the new one anyway

June, hope C is feeling better. Did the doctor tell you when to start giving her her milk again? Your MIL and SIL are plain tiring, lady... when you say "they were home when I came back" is that because your DH was home or because they have a key? Luckily M slept better and therefore so did DH and I

She only woke up 2 and I can deal with that she fed and went straight back to sleep so I almost didn't feel it

DH, however, went to work at 6am! This whole week he's been going really really early and mind you, he works in an office environment, where people go from 9 to 5 so this is really not the norm... poor poor him, things have been extremely busy and as he wants to see M in the evening before she goes to bed he prefers to go in early... aaaanyway...

Hope you're all having a nice evening Juners!

Waves!!!!

Skillbo · 10/12/2009 22:48

Hi Skies

Just wanted to say loving the new name... I sing 'You are my sunshine' to Jazzy all the time which I presume is where you took the name from.. so is nice and positive! SO agree about expressing... hate it but it seems to be a necessary evil as money is tight and obviously this is free. Had a good look in Boots today and might get a few ready made cartons for the cupboard which I know is not the cheapest option but hopefully they won't be needed!

Jazzy seems a bit unsettled tonight - am a big believer in the sleep breeding sleep theory and she hasn't done well today. Hoping its not some of the food I've been throwing down her throat - read in AK today that she should only be having smooth purees until she's got the hang of it but have been feeding her lumpy stuff. Oh well, she swallows it all down with a smile so am sure she's grand! Am going to give mango a go tomorrow - quite a strong flavour but I expect, like everything else, it will disappear down her throat. It is so much fun and am going to miss it when I head back to work (four weeks this weekend )

June - hope C is well on the mend. I am also suprised there doesn't seem to be any timescale on not giving her milk.. this is the one thing I am worried about when I go back as Jazzy hasn't taken it from anything other than me! Oh well, sounds like you've got it under control so fingers crossed!

Bigcar - hope the eye is better although eye patches are quite sexy

Anyways - its late and need my beauty sleep - catch up soon xx

MrsMcJnr · 10/12/2009 23:06

Hey ladies - just briefly, no more sleep than usual but I have found a cup she'll drink from hope to catch up tomorrow keep well all

June2009 · 11/12/2009 09:00

Hiya!

Just quickly as I can hear C is waking up and nothing is ready as we all had a bad night sleep and I only just woke up.

She is better thankfully, poo is back to normal. The diluted milk & solid food combo has worked. I have been increasing the measures of "milk to water" ratio throughout so she has been having milk since Tuesday afternoon. (Only monday and tuesday morning did she not have any).
She will be back to normal measures of milk from today.
I went to see the health visitor yesterday to check her weight and double check the doctor's ways and she was fine. she didn't put on as much weight as usualy but she did put some on so HV said she was doing well overall.
We'll also be on three meals a day from now on.

Sadly I have to go rush around now, talk to you later!

June2009 · 11/12/2009 09:38

naat I think if these two had a key they'd move in. (Dh let them in.)
Dh was telling me yesterday that there are work things I really need to do. I haven't been able to wake up at 5or 6am the past 2 weeks as exhausted and now I'm behind with work.
His comment really pissed me off, I don't take criticism very well when I am trying my best so I retorted that if mil and sil weren't in C's face with toys and getting her all excited at a time when she should be winding down maybe she'd go to bed earlier and I could do work in the evening.
He said no one would come anymore this week. Very well, but I need a longer time out than that to figure out a routine that will wok for everyone.
I hope this is going to help as I am at my wits ends with them to be honest. I just don't have the time for them to "just pop in to drop somthing off for the baby" at anytime. they toys are not going to melt if they wait a bit to give them!

Naat · 11/12/2009 10:11

June, ohhhhh soooooo for you! Of course they can wait to drop off a toy for the baby... It's good that your DH is going to put a limit to all visits this week but unless he meant "a week", ie. 7 days, today is Friday so it's not much time otherwise Hope he means a whole week so that you can have a rest from them all... then you can try telling him C is much more settled without getting overexcited when she's supposed to be winding down etc etc so that he gets stricter with them? You can only try, I guess... I send you lots of patient thoughts as I know how annoying and tiring in laws can be Hope you manage to catch up on some work and well done, by the way, on telling your DH what you thought, otherwise he might have not realised, men are usually like that I'm rambling now... Glad C is better and her nappies are back to normal

Bigcar, hope your eyes are better How was the fair?

Right, some friends are coming over tonight for my birthday It's tomorrow but as some of them couldn't make it then we decided to do it tonight and then go to London tomorrow for a loooong weekend

M's godfather is on his honeymoon (remember DH went to his wedding in BA?) and now is coming to England to see her So we're going down there to meet them and spend some time together

Off to tidy up, and prepare everything for tonight!

June2009 · 11/12/2009 16:38

bleh, nappy rash
C.'s got tiny little pimples on her butt (near the err, "exit") they look like they have little white heads as well.
called nhs direct who said that it sounded like nappy rash and to put vaseline (see gp if it doesn't get better within 24 hours)
anyone else ever seen that? c's nappy rash is usually just red buttocks..

Thanks naat, I just don't know what to do. I think it is excessive that they've both been here twice this week (seing that they usually come over on Fridays as well, so far today no seen either though.) and it is stressfull to think that they can be turning up anytime regardless of what we are doing or about to do. What is mil turns up when it's my turn to have the mums round (we take it in turns).

off to chemist for nappy rash advice...

June2009 · 11/12/2009 16:39

Happy Birthday Naat :d:D

Naat · 11/12/2009 16:51

June, I don't have experience on this myself but my translator friend's LO had a horrible nappy rash, it was bleeding so it was a very very bad one... and her doctor prescribed her a cream called ORABASE. It's a miracle thing, really really thick and after a couple of days the LO's bum was clear so it's worth the try. Can you call your surgery for a flash prescription before they close???

thanks naat I made a note.
The chemist gave me canesteen to put on twice a day, should clear up within 5 days. They're very nice in that chemist actually, always really helpful.

Are you getting or getting yourself something nice for your bday?
I've been looking at changing bags (since we have to carry it around everyday and mine is slowly deteriorating). I like these
The other ones I looked at online and that I liked were all around £70. (or I could get the free boots one but I don't want the junk mail that you get after.)

London town is very exciting at the moment, lots of people around doing their xmas shopping, xmas lights on etc, whereabouts are you going/staying?

Did anyone receive the bounty weaning pack? my rl-new-mums mates got it and I didn't!

llynnnn · 11/12/2009 23:02

happy birthday naat!! hope you had a lovely day and have been spoilt by dh!! x

hi to everyone else, will try to catch up tomorrow. soooo busy at the moment but i am reading you all

Naat · 11/12/2009 23:18

hello!

I'm embarrassed! I think I explained things wrong in my early post today as my bday is tomorrow but we celebrated it tonight. Aaaaanyway thanks for the lovely messages llynn and June My FB showed something wrong as well as I got messages saying happy bday oh well, I get to celebrate two days in a row, what else can I ask for?

June, glad you got some good support at that chemist Hope the cream works and soon so that C feels better.

Strawberry, awwwww glad to hear that!! Come back and report more!!

Llynn, let's hope there's some spoiling tomorrow today I spent the whole day cooking and tyding up for tonight

Right, off to bed!!!

Waves!!

Skillbo · 12/12/2009 00:07

Just a quick one -

June - your nappy rash although not great doesn't sound really abnormal and at least the chemists have put your mind to rest. I was given some fabulous OTC nappy rash stuff that sorted out my friends lo when she had an extreme case. I'd never seen anything like it - will check the name of it in the morning as its in Jazzys room and let you know.

Cannot believe your inlaws behaviour - outrageous! I would be so so so and agree that you need at least one week totally free and then only infrequent visits. How on earth do they not realise that babies need to be calmed down towards the end of the day... especially MIL as she has obviously had kids for your DH to exist!!

I haven't got my bounty weaning pack either, grrr! Might investigate whether I can get in touch online as I know you can join. Wonder what you get in it.. (love freebies!)

Naat - hope you had a blast tonight and it's everyones right to have at least a two-day birthday.

Strawbs - yeeha! Jazzy tried brocolli this week and wasn't overly impressed - glad Lizzie is being such a good girl. I think we are going to go the AK pureeing route and introduce finger foods a bit later. Was really keen on BLW but it just doesn't seem practical for our situation at the mo - she is also loving the various goops she gets fed everyday and if its ain't broke etc etc. I kind of know what you mean about the nappies - Jazzy has a tendency to hand onto her number twos so when they come, boy are they wild!

Anyways - I best head to bed as it's late and Jazzy will no doubt wake. Got a leaflet from massage today about sleep and it basically recommends the stuff we're trying (not feeding at every cry, comfort but don't lift) so hoping that it will only take a few more nights for some decent results.

Big hugs to all Juners x

daisy5 · 12/12/2009 08:58

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR NAAT
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

june - many types of nappy rash, from very mild to very nasty. If you have What to Expect book, there is a list of some of the different types.
