OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
June2009 · 13/11/2009 11:33

choccie thanks for this book title, I'll have a look for it.
I tried baby rice this am and C's given me loads of big smiles. (not sure whether this is because it's just different and "fun" or because she actually likes it). Just one measure of rice, she's had maybe 5 little babyspoons and impossible to say how much actually went down!

I also gave her more banana in the feeder but she was not interested.

Overall yesterday was better than the day before re:feeding. Baby slept from around midnight to 8am (!), only waking up once (and went back to sleep straight away). I woke up three times to check the temperature in her room (too cold, then too hot...)

There must be around 50 to 100 birds in our tree this morning (dh reckons they are sparrows, it's quite unusual) and it's really nice to hear them sing, I videoed it silently cursing about the neighbours who want to cut it.
Can we rent out tree huggers when they decide to send a tree surgeon to cut it?

daisy what did your neighbour do, did she just go on your property and cut it???

naat good luck with the move, where is dh going?
My dh has got to work at night a few days in the next couple of weeks and I'm not looking forward to doing even more of the baby care on my own.

mrsmc I think this mum also has an obsession with Angelina jolie and has had plastic surgery to look more like her, I wouldn't be surprised if she had a nip and tuck too.
Having said that, two of my an classes buddies really do look fab and back in their normal clothes. I'm a long way away sadly.

and @ dh bringing up the subject of baby number 2 during our pillow talk last night. his words "I could do it all over again, I love babies". Too early for me.

For those of you who have had spd during pregnancy, do you automatically get it your second pregnancy as well? and does it get worse?? This is really scaring me, my case was only mild but so painful and prohibitive already.

right better go and do stuff now..

Naat · 13/11/2009 12:03

June, glad you had a better night LOL at DH and the baby talk. It's also too soon for me, I need a bit more time DH is going to Buenos Aires next Friday, one of his best friends is getting married, but he's only going for 6 days so he's flying solo. Going with Mila for such a short time was going to be too stressful for all, with everyone wanting to meet her and us running around from one house to the other. Glad to hear Calypso likes her food!

Choccie, glad to hear Elina is doing well with her food and glad to hear her reflux is much better

bigcar · 13/11/2009 13:42

afternoon all

MrsMcJnr, sorry to hear about your dad, hoping for a speedy recovery. So pleased the christening party went well. Must have been nice to get some time out with dh. 3 white wines though, lightweight I haven't got round to having a drink again yet since E, but I remember last time feeling a little sozzled after 1 glass It's amazing what you get used to!

daisy, that's great! Apart from dd3 all mine have been like that, crying because you can't shovel food in fast enough, hopefully it will go that well with E

june, the important thing with weaning is to find what suits you and C best, the whole puree/blw debate gets very heated on mn but I don't think there is a right or wrong way to go about it. Lol at your dh, is he offering to have the next baby? Only had spd the once, I think it's common to get it again, but you are well aware of what to look for and know when you have to slow down rather than working through the pain, if that makes sense.

lindsay, sounds like weaning is going great guns there

naat, great sleep! Good luck with your move, you sound way to calm about it all

choccie, good to hear weaning is going well! I'm surprised we've got this far without it for E

I saw that octomum thing last night! I didn't quite know what to make of her, I thought she looked a bit like AJ, now I know why! Apparently the doctor that did her ivf is no longer allowed to practice as he always put too many eggs back and wasn't following guidelines. She had 6 eggs left and as naat said, she didn't want to destroy them so had them all implanted, they all took and 2 eggs divided for twins, what are the chances of that happening She thought she was having 7 babies but they found another one during the cs! The bit I thought was really very sad was when she said, each baby gets their 10 minutes of mummy time on their own I know there aren't enough hours in the day but only 10 minutes alone with mummy.....

good news for strictly fans! Brucie has the flu and won't be doing tomorrows show, do you think we will miss his cringeworthy jokes?!

waves to all

lindsaygii · 13/11/2009 19:32

Weans ahoy! today we had more pear (he loves pear, some of it gummed down, some mashed up in rice...

banana, as above...

papaya, mostly mashed with a fork...

and more and more rice

He wouldn't stop, every time I tried to stop he yelled at me, and I mean 'yelled', a whole new noise which basically means 'feed me!!!'

I thought he'd get an upset tummy for sure he was shovelling it down so much, but no, he's snoozing away upstairs and seems happy as larry.

june what's this with tree?

bigcar you're right, weaning is another of these topics that seem to start world wars... ah well. ;)

naat you go to Buenos Aires, leave him at home with the baby!

Skillbo · 13/11/2009 22:17

Evening ladies - what a lot to catch up on and check out all the weaning going on!

I think I am going to have to join you as Jazzy has been really unsettled and when I had her weighed on Thursday, she had lost 2 ounces ... The HV was keen for me to continue bf so am going to give it until Monday when there is another clinic and see if she has plateaud or gained (now offering both boobs per feed) but tbh, I think she is ready. We don't have great nights at the mo as she is waking A LOT and daytime naps are also a thing of the past at the mo...

I am quite excited although bummer timing wise as we go on holiday next Monday and was hoping I could hold off. Oh well, they don't go too wild to start with

Expressing is going a bit better and we're going to try Jazzy on her first bottle of ebm tomorrow. It's only about 6 weeks before I'm back at work and DP has the reins so we thought we'd try and get her used to taking it from daddy now so its not such a struggle in January (she may just go with it as it means food! ).

Naat - good luck with the move, hope it all goes like a dream - you deserve a nice easy one after the pram incident.. can't believe the bus that drove over it.. bastard! Can you believe our lo's are 5 months tomorrow... seems to have flown!

Bigcar - we are a rolling machine as well, she ends up in the strangest parts of her cot at the mo! Also, chuffed about Bruce and the lovely Claudia will be doing annoying Tess's usual thing so really looking forward to it! God knows who will be off this week - doesn't seem an obvious choice for a change!

MrsM - so sorry to hear of your dads illness. Just echo what everyone else has said about catching it early and big hugs! Another foot fetishist here, which is just sweet!

Daisy - Jazzy is 5 months now.. after reading how much your boy is munching, I think we are going to have to give it a whirl.. some baby rice and porridge coming out way tomorrow, me thinks

June - I have the Annabel Karmel book (pressy from MIL!) and it looks great. As I will be going back to work, we've decided we're going to have to do a mixture of purees and blw to ensure Jazzy getting something (blw appears to be a tasting thing for the first while and we need to make sure she is getting more than that to start as I won't be around for bf). Watched a DVD (from Surestart) on blw and the gagging thing isn't actutally them gagging as such - they aren't able to move the food right to the back of their mouth if they're feeding themselves to start with - it doesn't seem to bother them, apparently. Had to re Baby No2... haven't had the specific discussion here but can tell it won't be long as DP totally in love with being a dad. I would love to do it all again just not for at least a year (I think...?)

Anyways - hoping for a better night, for all, so will sign off and try and catch up at some point over the weekend. DP's bro coming over for a visit tomorrow so should be lovely.

Have a great one everyone xx

llynnnn · 13/11/2009 22:26

i'm slightly jealous of all of you weaning already! i'm quite looking forward to it, i enjoyed introducing all the new tastes to dd1, she was really good (and still is now) . at trying new things, lets hope Isobel is the same! She isnt showing any real signs of being ready yet though, she is still having her 6oz 5 times a day like she has been for about 3months now!! and is settled and sleeping better and content on her milk for now! she watches us like a hawk while we are eating though and even tried to grab my plate while she was sat on my knee at the dinner table! bless her!!

mrsmc - sorry to hear about your dad, i wish him a very speedy recovery x

naat - thinking of you all, hope the move goes really well and you are soon settled in

bigcar - it must be so had for that mum to find time to even commit 10mins to each baby each day she must be running around all day! only saw part of the show but dinner time looked like very hardwork! and cant imagine going through 80 nappies a day!!!

june - good to hear your dh is keen to haven another!! you can tell who had to go through the whole pregnancy & labour!! bless!!

choccie - glad to hear the weaning has helped Elina's reflux and she is getting on well

i went into work today to discuss me returning in feb left a little disheartened to be honest, my boss kept telling me how quiet it is at the moment and how they are coping with the workload (i wasn't replaced while on mat leave) i asked if i could reduce my hours from 3 days to 2.5 and she suggested reducing them down to 2 days!!! i'm now a bit concerned that they are earmarking me for redundancy? hope i'm just being paranoid! we would be in big trouble if i lost my job as although i dont earn big bucks we do rely on it! she said she will be able to confirm my new hours next week, hope that my 9 years loyalty counts for something

anyway, sorry for moaning on! hi to everyone else, hope you all have nice weekends!

lindsaygii · 13/11/2009 22:38

llynnn that does sound very worrying from work... Horrible for you - moan away!

there are very strict laws about not getting rid of women who take maternity leave, though. Maybe you should have a quiet word with your local CAB office just to check in with them?

Good luck, keep whispering...

bigcar · 14/11/2009 18:55

afternoon all

layout's all changed again I can't cope with this

skillbo if you're travelling these are quite good, basically all that's in them is what it says on the front. That's if you want to do the puree thing. They're in a squeezy bag so you can just squeeze straight onto the spoon, they reseal and keep in the fridge for a short time. Asda and Tesco sell them as well but for some reason I couldn't find them on their website. I'm thinking maybe Ricky Groves to go tonight, I much prefer it when you don't know which way it's going to go!

llynnn, I'm glad I don't have her nappy bill, 2 in nappies at the same time is enough for me! Fingers crossed they keep your hours at work

lindsay, lots of new flavours there I'm really not keen on papaya myself, but then I'm not the biggest fruit fan

ooooh look, Ronnie Corbet, he almost stacked it on the stairs too, bit of a height difference with Tess He's usually quite funny, we'll see.

waves to all

lindsaygii · 14/11/2009 19:00

wave back to bigcar and yes, the papaya didn't go down very well, if I'm honest.

He had sweet potato tonight, but it was only after a while I realise it's quite fibrous if you don't actually crush it to death with a spoon so he'll probably be totally constipated and shouting for days now... Bad mother!

Naat · 14/11/2009 23:24

Hi all!

Soooooooooooooooo tired but really really happy, our new home is lovely! We're so happy We still have things to do, but the basics are all in place. Mila is now sleeping and soon so will we

Lindsay, I LOVE papaya! but you're right, it's quite fibrous so it's better to go slow with that one

Bigcar, those things are great according to Tom's cousin. She also uses them when out and about as they're really practical. I'm planning on cooking things (as part of what I cook for us) but these look good to take out Did you enjoy Strictly minus Bruce?

Llynn, slightly at Isobel sleeping so well I hope that starts happening here soon Sorry to hear about the comments you got from your job, Linds is right though, they cannot sack you, all they can do is "nudge" you into voluntary redundancy, but that's a whole different story.

Skillbo, our babies turned 5 months today! How quickly this is going! Expressing was a mess here! I have no idea what I did wrong but I had to throw away 4 bottles as the milk went off... today I was left with only 4 and of those I ended up throwing 2 as well as the day went by. No idea what I did wrong, they were in the fridge, at very low temp, God knows...

Hi to all the rest of the Juners

No idea why I have internet We were supposed to have to wait until next Thursday, but well, we'll find out tomorrow

I'm knackered, going to bed now

Waves!!!

June2009 · 15/11/2009 11:07

heya juners!

naat were you posting from your new place? Sometimes it gets switched on before they say (always worth trying).

bigcar I enjoyed strictly more without bruce forsyth there, not sure about that corbett guy, I did see him almost fall over the stairs. It was all bit of a fiasco yesterday wasn't it what with jade and leila injured. Can't beleive they kept that guy in after slagging him off week after week.

C's refusing to drink her hipp formula, but we tried ready mix cartons of aptamil and she's very happy with that, finishing almost all her bottles as she should be.
Not sure whether it is common for babies to just stop drinking the milk they've been having since birth? Shes been funny wih her milk for a couple of weeks now but this week she has been closing her mouth, crying, screaming even, and as soon as we switch to aptamil she drinks it fine. We've even tried hipp, then given her aptamil, then sneakily given her hipp after the burp and she knows and point blank refuses it!!!

She sits up on her own now she can stay sitting for like 10 minutes without wobbling. Of course I'm watching her like a hawk as there's aways a point where she falls over.

StrawberrySam I'm trying the BLW weaning too (although we also do baby rice, and I have been mashing stuff with a fork after he's gummed it for a bit).

Am really interested to know how it goes when you start. Keep us posted!

Mine was born 19th June, so he's 21 weeks now, and we're just under a week into it. Going well so far.

Naat well done, you. I hate moving house!

MrsMcJnr · 15/11/2009 22:41

Not much interest in food so far - more baby rice seemed to come out than go in yesterday and the same happened with carrot today - more from me tomorrow, shattered!

June2009 · 16/11/2009 09:57

heya, we had a nice relaxing weekend, I think (memory loss does not get better after pregnancy!!!).
C's had a nap on her tummy for the first time. I might try that nex time she is unsettled.

Is wearing too much perfume actually toxic to babies? Fed up with baby smelling of "body shop" every time sil comes round.

mrsmc what sort of food did you have for your christening?
We're preparing ours slowly. We walked past a lovely bakery on Sunday, must go and try it out, they had lovely christening cakes out in the window.

oops time is up.

Naat · 16/11/2009 13:40

Hi all!

June, I think a little bit shouldn't be bad for them, but if your SIL is the kind of person that wears A LOT and leaves a trace and all then that can't be too good.

Lindsay, we tried some melon in a munchkin the other day and she liked it but I think she didn't quite get the mesh thing She made lots of faces

Strawberry, jeez that sounds exhausting! I've had a few couple of weeks like that and I can't imagine what a month and odd weeks would do to me Hope you manage to get some rest soon ((hug)) Wheel apparently ready this afternoon, we'll see

Mrsmc, you sound shattered, how're things?

Busy busy day here, I had to call loaaaaaads of places to report the new address. That's even more tiring than the move! Poor DH has to call loads anyway as some things are on his name and I'm not allowed to do anything.

DH's birthday today! The big 30 Mila and I gave him his bob book this morning and he loved it! He cried and gave us a big hug

Unpacking is definitely done as of this morning and now I have to bake the bday cake and get everything ready for this evening as we're having some friends over for some pizza and empanadas (traditional Argie pasties)

Off to work then!!

Waves!!!

June2009 · 16/11/2009 19:19

naat how does the bob book work? do you print it yourself or do you buy it from the site? dh's bday on tuesday and although were going to a top notch restaurant for it i'd like to get/give him a little something.

June2009 · 16/11/2009 20:27

forget I asked, I've found the site and read up, how long did yours take to come?
dh is working late a couple of nights this week so if babe is letting me I'll do this for him and hope it comes sooner rather than later :D

daisy5 · 16/11/2009 22:40

naat - congrats on the move. It must be much better now I hope. So pleased about the Bobs Book. My dp cried when I gave him his.

Your mum is so right about weaning. All the mums with older kids look in bewilderment when I mentioned waiting as long as possible before feeding him. They cannot imagine waiting until 6 months and I do not know anyone that can. It seems like child cruelty. On hindsight I think quite a bit of Fraser's crying was down to him being hungry and I feel so guilty about not realising.

june - the book takes a wee while to edit online and 2 weeks or so to be printed and come back to you.

Any of you weaning mother having POO problems. Fraser goes once a day and it oozes everywhere unlike never before. It gushes up the top and halfway up his back. Thankfully it is mud-like so not too hard to contain but I feel nervous about going out in public!!!

daisy5 · 16/11/2009 22:41

But then my neighbour thinks boys tend to be hungrier sooner. Any views?

daisy5 · 16/11/2009 22:42

june - yup she just went on the property and cut it. Amazing huh!!!

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2009 22:43

Sorry for just writing snippets at the mo, really busy with in laws here and still not had more than 2 consecutive hours sleep for weeks now - Aaliyah tried pear and baby rice today, seemed to like it more than carrot or baby rice alone but she still would prefer to just bite the spoon.

llynnnn · 17/11/2009 07:30

morning all

poor Isobel is full of cold again, has a chest infection and conjunctivitis anyone got any tips of how to get eye drops in easily?? she's quite good with the medicine, but hates the drops she's also really gone off her milk with all these things playing her up! she's probably having about 15oz a day at the mo

mrsmc - really hope A cuts you some slack soon and lets you sleep

naat - hope your dh had a good birthday. i'm dreading being 30!!

must go get dd1 some breakfast! speak soon

Naat · 17/11/2009 09:00

morning all!

llynn, ohhh sorry to hear Isobel has a cold again, poor wee one No idea how to get drops in unfortunately but hope she feels better soon...

Daisy, Mila is quite quite unsettled and I think it's hunger... Yesterday she fed like a newborn ALL day, poor mite. Fortunately at night she only woke up twice. She has had poo incidents like that but not even food related, which means I'd better brace myself

June, on the website it says 2 weeks but I got mine in 4 days and I'm here up north so maybe you're lucky and get it soon too. It's a lovely present to give, yesterday some of our friends were here and they loooved the idea

Mrsmc, ohhh sending sleeping thoughts to you!! (((hug)))

As I said before, some friends came over and we shared DH's 30th bday with them, he was really happy and thanked me for organising it all, having moved 48hs ago. I made a sticky dulce de leche cake and it was yummy!

Right, off to get ready for HV's appt here at home and then off to M&P, yesterday I had to come back as it started raining

Waves!!!

June2009 · 17/11/2009 09:04

mrsmc I hope the situation improves soon for you, sorry to hear about your dad, best of luck with the treatment.

lynn They say to put the drop when the eyes are closed for children and if you put it in the corner when they open their eyes the drop automatically goes in but i'm not sure that works for wriggling babies.

re: feeding, we've got an update, C. will eat her hipp formula, only it has to be stone cold out of the fridge. I tried it after Tee mentionned putting the dummy in the dridge, so thanks for that Tee ;)
And she now fisnishes her bottles too (it takes a while, sometimes up to an hour an a half.)

daisy your neighbour is worse than mine...
re: poo. Oh my god...right up her back and I even found poo on her shoulder!!! I thought it was the change in formula, maybe it was baby rice. (She has not had it yesterday, we'll see if that makes any difference.
I'll do the bok for christmas I think, I lamely fell asleep last night instead of getting stuck in, this is going to take much longer than a couple of nights...
It is a great idea :D
I don't know about statistics re: boys vs girls.

right, time is up...
