daisy Oh gaaaawwwd, the tree ... can of worms there. It's not cut yet, we're waiting for the leaves to have all fallen out. I really don't want it to be cut .

Baby not feeding well today and sleeping lots... it's 6:30 and she's not finished her 4:30 o'clock bottle....and she did not finish her 1:30 bottle.

argh, poo time :S all out of sync today.

Skillbo · 10/11/2009 21:49

Hello

Fingers crossed for a better night for all tonight.. going to get my head down real soon so just a quickie.

Lynnn - love the idea of babynet

June - we have a routine in place and have done since Jazzy was about 8 weeks. I thought this was a bit young so posted on the behaviour thread here and it seems everyone else got stuck in younger so we thought we'd try it. We start at 7pm with a bath, she then has a nice long feed in the darkened bedroom and then a little bit of quiet time to try and chill her out and then down for about 730pm. Its great - before the last few nights when she's been all over the place, she wakes as we're heading for bed (normally about 1030pm) and then sometime in the middle of the night and then bright eyed and bushy tailed anytime between 630 and 8 (we're lucky, I know!!) I don't know if it works for everyone but it definitely works in the Skillbo house - means me and DP have a bit of time together as well before passing out in bed!

Daisy - wow, your boy does seem keen to wean! You must let me know how you get on - am holding out until back from holiday in a few weeks as would like the ease of just boobage whilst away!

Quiet day today - DP working late so we just hung out, played with every toy she owns and ended up boogying to Radio 1... she loved it, we dance quite a lot to MTV but thought we'd try it minus the telly. I prefer the videos though and Jazzy cranes her neck - we don't watch much telly so I guess it's the novelty factor... some of the vids are a bit racy though but she watched Dragonball Z with her daddy which is all death and destruction so a few saucy music videos isn't too bad

Anyway - happy snoozing everyone!!

Naat · 11/11/2009 16:17

Hi ladies!

Skillbo, another TV watcher here I put MTV on as well but she also likes a cartoon called Rolie Polie Olie, whenever it comes on she turns her head towards the tv I don't let her watch that much more, it's too easy to become addicted to it Hope you had a good night.

June, how is Calypso? Is she feeding better today? I was wondering the other day about your tree situation, so sorry you're still dealing with it...

Daisy, oh dear, you've had some pretty hard weeks, poor poor you. Hope the DC are feeling better (((hug))) Your neighbour was quite out of order there

Hope you're all having better nights, over here bed time is becoming a challenge She'd be completely sleepy but soooo reluctant to go to sleep

AND to top my zombie day I just had a very very bad trip to the dentist. When I was trying to get off the bus one of the front wheels from the pram got stuck between the bus and the pavement, a kind gentlemen tried to help me and lifted the pram only to make the wheel get loose and fall UNDER the bus I remained calm and told him not to worry, that I'd get it and suddenly see it's not there!!! I told the bus driver not to worry (yeah right!) to just drive away so that I could pick it up. BUT a bus that was right behind didn't see my frantic waves of "stoooooooop" and just crashed the wheel!!! My face, oh dear you should have seen my face of "what on earth am I supposed to do nowwwwwwwwww?" I almost cried! I called DH in panic got to the dentist surgery and a lady who happened to be a witness to my misery asked me if I had been able to get the wheel. When I told her it had been crushed by another bus she asked me where I lived AND when I told her she said "oh dear, that's on the other side of town!" and then the sweetest words that I could have heard ensued "I'll take you home, don't worry" Dear Lord! an angel from heaven indeed. Now I have to get to mamas and papas soon to get a new one. I just hope they sell them!!!

Sorry for the long story, I was just almost in tears I had already decided to take driving lessons as of January and THIS has reinforced my decision

Hope you're having a nice day, ladies!!! Waves to all!!!

bigcar · 11/11/2009 17:04

afternoon all

doris, why the hell didn't I think of that?! Synchronised ironing could solve all my problems, I have 2 irons and ironing boards, it just never crossed my mind

lyndsay, hi and welcome

daisy and june, tree troubles sound awful, or should I say neighbour troubles?!

naat, oh that sounds awful, very at the following bus driver, are you considering complaining, not that you haven't got enough on your plate at the moment?! I'd ring M&P and check, often they order spares in rather than stock them. I think if you send a buggy through mothercare to be repaired they will lend a buggy until yours is fixed. That is unless you have a multitude of buggies like me and can manage without Yay for that lovely lady, restores your faith doesn't it ((((hugs))))

MrsMcJnr, have you tried using calpol at night, we do with E some nights, just to help us all get a couple of extra hours, I'm hoping these teeth come through quickly, it's really not nice for the los is it!

I saw the physio again yesterday, things are definitely on the up which is good, although she said it's going to take a long time to get completely back to normal, bloody spd. She'll probably only see me one more time and that will be it, just a case of continuing the exercises. E is getting so fast at rolling now, I've really got to be careful. He finished his feed, we were lying in bed and by the time I had looked down to refasten my bra he was almost off the bed He's laying on the floor now, rolling around and shouting at all his toys and occasionally stopping to have a suck on his thumb.

waves to all

bigcar · 11/11/2009 17:06

thanks naat, I now have the Rolie, Polie, Olie song going round my head

June2009 · 11/11/2009 17:10

naat Oh no what drama with the pram hope you get the wheel very soon! Have you got a sling to use in the meantime?
Yesterday was a total fiasco with feeding, she had her last bottle at 1:30 AM and did not finish it either so..
Today I changed Calypso's milk today (from Hipp to Actamil) and lo and behold she has finished one of her bottles. (out of 3).
If she'd finished all three then I would have changed the milk more permanently but I don't think it's that. and I don't think she's teething today either.
Friend of mine's son is doing the same thing and she reckons it could be they are ready for solids, she bought baby rice today.

right gotta go, baby's awake!

daisy5 · 11/11/2009 22:51

june - I'm certain it's a food thing. I've finally realised what is going on....since Fraser recovered from his throat infection, i.e. for the past week, he is crying after feeds (because he's not satisfied), he cries when I eat food....he is gnawing at his hands and crying as if teething, but I can give him 3 x Teetha sachets + Calpol + Nurofen and he still gnaws away so clearly it is something else.

It finally occurred to me it is 'food' he is after. I have tried to put it off because all the leading health organisations recommend 6 months as the preferred starting point, but Fraser is completely distressed and I am starting tomorrow. If he hates baby rice like DD did, then I will go straight on to apple, pear, carrots and sweet potato etc. DD started at 4 1/2 months and never suffered they way Fraser is.

Enough is enough. Time for food!!!! He is 5 months in 4 days - that is good enough and I won't introduce any allergy inducing food until 6-9months like recommended.

daisy5 · 11/11/2009 22:55

naat sorry to hear about the pram incident. I would suspect ringing the pram company direct about replacement better....and a complaint to the council (or bus company) too!

llynnnn · 12/11/2009 07:40

naat - at your pram incident! i wouldve been in tears! especially having to go to the dentist straight after! not a good day! we have a mamas and papas highchair and it needed a new seat pad, i rang their customers service department and they sent a new one out for us (not cheap though!)

daisy - good luck with the weaning. we weaned dd1 when she was 4months too and she is perfectly fine we just kept it simple until she reached the magic 6months. sounds like Fraser is definitley ready!

june - let us know how you get on with the baby rice. at the tree issue still being ongoing!

bigcar - Isobel has also started rolling from front to back too, was a shock the first time as she almost rolled straight into the wall as i wasnt expecting it! good news about the phsyio

we dont really have much of a bedtime routine. we bath both girls at 7pm then isobel listens in to dd1's stories, we then take her back down with us and have lots of cuddles until 9ish when she has her last bottle and goes up to bed. would love to get her down earlier but she is waking at 7am at the mo, dont really want to be up earlier!! {lazy emotion}

touchwood, her cold/cough has almost gone now and last night she only woke twice for her dummy back so feeling much more alive this morning! ready to tackle the housework.....

Naat · 12/11/2009 08:51

Morning ladies!

Llynn, I'll give them a call today. I just hope they sell them! Glad to hear your night was better than previous ones May that continue!!

Daisy, you know, I was talking to my mum yesterday as she majored in child psychology and development and she told me that might by why these LOs are so unsettled. Oh well, Mila will be 5 months this Saturday and on Tuesday the HV is coming home to discuss weaning and give me all the starter tips so I think we might start after that. Let us know how it goes! I bet he'll just munch away from minute 1

June, glad to hear Calypso did better with her feeding yesterday. Our routine has changed in the last few weeks, as I used to give her a bath in the mornings, but now we're trying to establish an evening routine so we start with a bath at around 8, then some feeding and cuddles winding her down and she falls asleep between 9 and 10. These last few nights have been a challenge, though, very unsettled and teary, let's hope it passes soon.

Bigcar, ohhh the song! I struggle to get some of the words in the middle of it but invent and sing it to her, she adores that round robot! No alternative buggy here, so I'll resort to the sling until I get a new wheel. That lady was definitely an angel placed right there for us I don't I could complain even if I wanted to as with my utter shock I didn't even see the number of the bus, nothing... Good news on the spd front I admire you ironing ladies!! hats off! I only iron DH's shirts

I have baby massage today so I'll be using the kari me. We're going for dinner over to some friends tonight. Not much packing left for tomorrow, only the food and dishes that we've been using this week although DH might need to disassemble the cot.

Right, Mila's napping now so I should get on with some chores

Waves!!!!

bigcar · 12/11/2009 14:23

afternoon all

naat, just for you

(Hooray!) and in the land of curves and curls he's the swellest kid around and in the land of curves and curls he's the swellest kid around Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!

have a look here as well!

daisy, hope the weaning goes well

llynnnn, glad to hear dd is feeling better

it's horrible, cold and wet here today E was awake at midnight last night, finally went back down at 1.30, just wide awake and ready to play might have to give solids a go here soon too E loves bubbles now, I was blowing some for dd3 yesterday and he was fascinated, he's never shown an interest before.

waves to all

Naat · 12/11/2009 15:26

Awww, Bigcar, you're just too sweet!! Thank you for that, I was REALLY inventing in the middle I can now sing it properly (and teach it to DH , who was even more lost than me) Ouch, full of beans at midnight is a no-no Hope you have a better night tonight. It's awful here as well, rainy and muggy. xxx

MrsMcJnr · 12/11/2009 15:43

Typed this the other day and never managed to post it ?

June ? the Christening party went well thanks. For once DS had a sleep beforehand and Aaliyah was asleep when everyone arrived so was able to make an entrance in her gown once everyone had a drink. We had a lovely (albeit a bit windy) day and we all sat outside until about 6pm. The food seemed to go down well which was a relief. Glad it is over though, it was quite stressful! Sorry to hear that your brother got scammed I must dig our door frame bouncer out for Aaliyah; sure she?d love it as she liked to look at everything. She adores ?Waybalu? by the way.

Choccie ? think that is the endless summer coming to an end now, I have even lain out tights for Aaliyah to wear tomorrow! Your poor ex ? au pair she must feel like she is being struck repeatedly by lightening

Naat ? sounds like we had a very similar night last night, let?s hope that tonight is much better!

Llynnnn ? nice of your DH to take over last night, chance would be a fine thing!

Doris ? another one very impressed by your lawn laying! Good luck with the Family Fund, every little helps also to your DH for the snip. Aaliyah is also using me as a dummy (and often a teething ring too ? ouch!) she seems to have forgotten all about sucking her thumb. LOL at tandem ironing, I shall keep that quiet!

Hello and welcome Lindsayqii what?s your little boy?s name? I have both a calpol and a karvol plug in, I don?t like the latter much as it has an eerie blue light on it but it certainly clears your nose!

Strawberrysam ? as the others have said, sleep deprivation makes everything so much worse but even without that, your MIL?s comments are certainly not helpful why can?t older women support younger ones in low times rather than just kick them and gloat at their perceived weakness of our generation? interesting article and food for thought ? I?ve just fed Aaliyah for 20 mins and she was really hungry!

Bigcar ? LOL about GB and the biscuits, bet it?s a Tunnocks tea cake

Skillbo ? never heard that about topping up bottles, I just put the milk in a bag in the fridge and then freeze it when I get to 6oz. It is hard to express and feed at the same time, DS used to kick the pump until it lost it?s grip expressing after a shower or hot bath has good results too.

MrsMcJnr · 12/11/2009 15:50

Really love that ?no comment? face, hilarious!

I have a hang over DH and I are going out on Sat night with friends to celebrate their engagement and so we did a trial run last night so the In Laws could get comfy around the idea. It was the first time I?d left Aaliyah too so was very nervous. We were only out from 9.30-12 and luckily were on our way back when Aaliyah woke up wanting more milk. I had 3 white wines and feel dreadful ? shadow of my former self! I think I will need to try her on a bottle over the next few days in case she wakes on Sat night as I will be further away.

Bad news here my Dad has prostate cancer luckily they have caught it early but he needs to have it removed ASAP. My Dad has been so lucky to date (or unlucky) he has got through a cancerous kidney which he had removed 10 years ago and skin cancer last year. I wish he wouldn?t drink so much and would take better care of his body. He is only 61. The irony was that he found out about the cancer yesterday, the 20th anniversary of his own father?s death from cancer at the age of 61.

Still having bad nights with Aaliyah, I am at my wits end because I am still only get 1 ? 2 consecutive hours of sleep per night and I find it so hard to function on that amount.

Anyway, enough me, me, me ?

daisy5 · 12/11/2009 16:09

naat lynn & bigcar - he loved it, smiling away and sucking his finger so he could swallow better. I gave him 1tsp of baby rice with 1T of expressed milk about half an hour after his 11am milk feed. When he'd finished and I walked away, he cried, so I had to make up a second batch and bring that over. I think I will give him some more for supper tonight even though I was going to wait until tomorrow.

daisy5 · 12/11/2009 16:09

How old is yours skillbo?

MrsMcJnr · 12/11/2009 16:14

Ineedmore ? hope the kids are feeling a bit better now, scary for you all.

Ermintrude ? hope the writing is flowing

Hey Doris sounds like A and most of the other babies are doing similar things Aaliyah is just besotted with her feet at the moment, she is such a cuddly ball so smiley!

Bonfire Night chuckle ? one of my British friends was complaining that the Spanish didn?t celebrate it ? she looked totally blank when I asked why would they!

Saw someone selling a ?breast feeding necklace? on eBay, I had a look as was intrigued and it is just a colourful necklace which she wore to keep her baby?s attention whilst she was being fed ? might have to get some beads on and try out the theory!

Daisy ? London sounded like a nightmare, poor you. Hope both DCs are better now. Let us know how Fraser gets on with solids. Sorry to hear about DP?s job. So angry for you about the tree!

Skillbo ? I think having a bedtime routine really helps both parents and the babies, you all know what is happening when. We had a routine with DS from 6 weeks and we have slotted Aaliyah into it (they have a bath together with DH at @7.15 then DH gets DS ready for bed and gives him is milk and I give A a massage and then get her ready for bed and feed her in the dark) sadly, it doesn?t seem to help Aaliyah sleep all night at the moment but I live in hope!

Naat ? how awful about the buggy and the wheel the kindness of strangers can?t be overestimated can it? Are you able to order another wheel easily?

Bigcar ? I was thinking I?d get the calpol out actually. Needs must. Another fast roller here. She has forgotten how to suck her thumb sadly, that might have made soothing easier in the night.

Naat · 12/11/2009 16:20

Mrsmc, so sorry to hear about you dad's diagnosis Luckily they've caught it early. Loads of positive thoughts going your way. Glad you had the chance to go out with DH and unwind a bit, hope you have a better night tonight. (((hug)))

Daisy, aw so glad to hear he liked it LOL at him asking for more!! Fingers crossed for a more settled night

Naat · 12/11/2009 16:26

Oh, Daisy, my brain! I forgot to say sorry to hear about your DH's job. When will you have news? Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts xxx

daisy5 · 12/11/2009 17:41

OH MY GOODNESS.

I just gave Fraser 2tsp of baby rice with 2T of milk, he devoured it and then cried and cried, so with some hesitation (as I'm not yet prepared for weaning) I opened a jar of Apple & Pear HIPP Rice Pudding at the back of my cupboard. He devoured it spoonful by spoonful and cried if I hesitated to give him more. I had to stop in the end as I was worried it might hurt his tummy having too much. He had 6tablespoons at least, so all told he has just eaten 10tablespoons of food today!!!!!

My daughter took a month to build up to eating that much. It took her half an hour to eat 2-3T of food. He just polished it all off in under 10mins and would have had more.

I am so surprised by the extent of his hunger..!!!

mrsmcjnr - was your night out fun? DH a little calmer or the same kind of on/off behavior. Ha ha at the Bonfire comment. Did she 'get it' eventually? Glad the christening was a success. Your poor dad - it must be so tough getting news like that. Big Hugs.

You also frighten me as DP is 49 and I want him to take life easier as I tell him 'the best gift you can give your children is you'. In a bizarre way I don't think I would mind if he lost his job because it is so hard on him, and he would get a decent pay out and I'd love it if he got a job that was a little quieter and didn't involve such long hours/travelling.

June2009 · 12/11/2009 19:22

I bought baby rice today, not sure when I will try it, tonight or tomorrow maybe.
I also got a couple HIPP fruit and vegetables pots.

I'm confused with Calypso's feeding at the moment.
She's not finishing her bottles, I had her weighed today and she's following her 25th centile perfectly. (so not loosing weight despite not finishing her bottles anymore.)

Do we start weaning because:
A) the baby seems to have lost interest in milk
or
B) baby finishes all his bottles and wants more
?
Or a bit of both?

I have given her a bit of banana in a munchkin feeder
Tried mashed broccoli with formula and she had a few spoonfulls of that, also pumpkin soup which we made and she seemed to like that too. she was quite happy with all of the above.
I tried giving her boiled carrot in the feeder but she was not interested.

For the BLW can we give babies boiled carrots/broccoli safely? As in, what if they swallow a big bit of it whole? Does it have to be boiled so much that it is mushy?
I have lurked a bit in the weaning threads, sadly not got much time.

It was a weird old night yesterday, C. woke up at 4:30 AM, bright eyed and would not take the dummy, nor go back to sleep.
I tried rocking her, singing etc, she would fall asleep in my arms but as soon as I put her down she would wake up and cry.
that until around 6am, so I fed her some formla milk, she had around 100ml I think.
sh still wouldnt sleep, so we went to the spare room and I got her to fall asleep next to me and then took her to her cot.
an hour late she wakes up again and wouldn't go to sleep.
So we co-slept (for the first time, and I was so worried that I woke up every 20 minutes to check she was still breathing) until 10:30 this morning.

Today she only finished one bottle.
So confused
And tired ...can't think straight!

MrsMcJnr · 12/11/2009 21:23

Oh my goodness, there is a programme on TV about a woman with 14 babies and she looks fab!

lindsaygii · 12/11/2009 21:43

Mine started staring at me eat at the weekend... so I tried the baby rice again (tried before with no success) and he - I swear to god - snatched the spoon out of my hand!!

June2009 - there is a school of thought that what they call 'baby led weaning' is better than doing the mush thing.

Basically, you give them actual food (soft, easy stuff) and let them gum it to death.

DS loves pear! I hold onto a piece (hold firm, cos they suck hard) and he gums away at it, and gets quite a lot down. He can hold it too, but it doesn't work so well for him because pear is wet and hard to hold.

I also tried him with avocado (some countries wean babies on avocado because it is soft, buttery, fairly bland) but it wasn't really ripe enough.

Today he had banana. We took it in turns to hold the banana (a piece, not mush) and he gummed away at that.

I've also read that broccoli, steamed carrot etc etc can be given in the same way.

Naat · 13/11/2009 10:49

morning ladies!

Lindsay, glad to hear DS is doing well with food. LOL at him snatching the spoon out of your hand

Mrsmc, yes, she's the octomum, an American lady who decided, after having 6 children (all through IVF) to have ALL of the eggs that she had left implanted, because she said they were going to distroy them otherwise. Insane! She now has 14 children, 8 under 1 And she now has a reality show in the US to earn the money she needs to support them all I didn't see the documentary last night.

June, sorry to hear about Calypso's night. BLW (I read some on the internet and some on here) is basically what Lindsay said, you give the baby small pieces of soft food (melon, cooked carrots, etc) and you let the baby manipulate the food and eat it the way they discover. The only fear of mums is wrt choking, but the mums that have tried BLW say it's actually not common as babies gag and cough things out. I'm a bit of a coward so will try the normal way first Hope you had a better night.

Daisy, well done Fraser! He was definitely not happy with only milk then LOL at him demanding more food!!

Hello to all the rest of the Juners!

A very good night here, only up once!!! It's been more than a week since we last had a night like that so I'm a happy mummy And we're moving tomorrow whoooo hooo!!!

I'll be out of internet any moment now as we've already transferred the line to the new place. Apparently even though there was a bt line there, they STILL need 5 working days before they can connect your broadband and as DH is travelling to Bs As next Friday, then we really wanted it up and running to keep in touch.

Anyway, loads of chores still to finish so I'd better go. Hope you have a nice day ladies!!

Waves!!!

chocciedooby · 13/11/2009 10:59

HI everyone.

Mrsmc - so sorry to hear about your dad . Glad they have caught it early and hope he is ok.You have had so much going on in this last year.

Naat - Poor you with the buggy wheel.Must have been a nightmare at the time.Hope you managed to get a replacement ok.

June - I swear by the Annabel Karmel book "Feeding Your Baby and Toddler".It goes through all the foods ytou can introduce, how to make them, has tons of recipes etc.I used it on my boys and things are going quite well this time around too.

Elina has been having baby rice for 2 weeks now. I have now introduced her to pear which she loves and carrot at lunchtime. Not so keen on that yet Mixing pear with baby rice now and she devours it! Her milk feeds are still ok but she was never a massive eater in the first place.

I don't know how people get to 6 months without weaning. Wjen Elina starting waking in the night again and waking earlier in the monrings I knew she needed solids. She gnaws on her hands, watches me eat etc. If you start early you can really introduce foods gradually and stick to things that are gentle on the stomach. I for instnace will not be giving apple yet and is too acidic for Elina's tummy. I have managed to reduce her reflux meds since having solids as well.

Best go get some bits done whilst she is still sleeping. xx
