Hi guys

no1
poppy poor dd2!! Mouth ulcers are horrible, and that one sounds like a champion Poor little girl, no wonder she can't sleep.

Well bedtime last night was hell on earth again. He went into full scale temper tantrum mode. Eventually DP got him to sleep by holding him down fairly firmly so he couldn't start crawling about. He gave in after a couple of minutes. I have to point out that this was a last resort after an hour of stropping. Am hoping for better things tonight

alittlebitshy · 01/10/2009 13:30

oh gosh ann. sounds you had a hellish bedtime. How was the rest of the night.
meant to say for little poppygirl. poor little lamb. Hope she is starting to feel a teensy bit better.

sequinedsteaknife · 01/10/2009 13:35

sorry x=posts a million, not ignoring you all

I think my benefit problems are various;

Child Benefit - they have had the claim 6 weeks and they say they try to have them done in 2 but it can take 8 so technically not late yet.

However because Child Tax Credits rely on me having a CB number they cannot process the claim until CB is processed.

CTC claims take 3 weeks they have had it 6 weeks, but because of lack of CB number needed birth certificate and passport to prove DD exists so the 3 week count starts from them receiving those - just under 3 weeks ago.

And it doesn't bear thinking about if they have to contact GC to verify birth certificate or some such nonesense.

All this compounded because I am claiming everything for the first time together. Whereas mose people would either be on somekind of benefit and only be making a new CB claim.

I really shouldn't phone the helplines because they can't actually do anything but read a screen at you so not that helpful and it just upsets me.

As for crisis loan, I am not in enough of a crisis yet to qualify because I am trying to pre-empt rather than fire-fight. [sigh]
At least I can ask mum for help, but I would much rather be self-sufficient if you can call benefits self-sufficient.

sequinedsteaknife · 01/10/2009 13:37

crikey a fair few s today eh?
BAck in a bit but dodgy smell coming from Iz - I decided to wait for the afternoon poo before putting her for her nap

StrictlySazz · 01/10/2009 13:49

steaky you sound like you are coping well with trying to navigate the system, what you are entitled to and what needs to happen for each claim to be processed. lets just hope the deadlines are met and in a few weeks you'll be all sorted

ann my DD's have both been more fractious if i have stayed in the room with them, so i did the withdrawl after a firm night night, for 5 mins/6/7/8/9 mins etc, laying them back down and saying 'night night's time now' each time. If they get up it doesn't matter, you still just leave the room until the next visit. Might be worth a try?

no1 your days work sounds lovely . I think it is good for you to have some time out and good for DH to have to cope with the DD's. I would say too that an hour was too long to leave DD1, BUT if she was fine and playing ok then i think i would be ok with it (mine would be stamping and shouting ). Perhaps she actually enjoyed the time away from her brother and you could ask her if she would like some quiet playtime to herself?

albs have fun in Primark - my problem is i can't resist the kiddie clothes (none of which they need). Not really interested in looking for me as i have never really enjoyed clothes shopping. Maybe that will change, although now i have no money to do it

My Denby set is Energy - cream/light green/dark greeny grey. I have got some bits from an outlet in Swindon and did the 'last order' thing from the Denby website, but i think that was just before they discontinued it

alittlebitshy · 01/10/2009 13:55

I may have to look in the kiddies section too sazz. They both need winter stuff, so.... I ave promised dd i will take her to bluewater for a girls only shopping trip for her winter gear though.

steaky sounds complex, but fingers crossed all claims are nearing completion. Is mansteak providing any financial help?

sequinedsteaknife · 01/10/2009 14:05

Mansteak is trying to transfer some money to me but says the details are wrong even though Icut and paste them from the bank website, I told him to just send the cash.

Main problem is that first direct debit payments are falling due soon and I don't know on what dates so trying to make sure I have money in my account so they don't bounce and I don't get charged. [grrr]

no1 your scrap books sound lovely, I was tempted by the thought but not sure how much of a gluing and sticking kind of girl I am. And ouchy for DS and his bumps and bruises.

poppy hope DD gets better soon.

Ann sounds like quite a time you had of it at bedtime - I hope he slept well in the night to make up for it.

poppysocks · 01/10/2009 14:24

Oh steaky, what a minefield. How to make a stressful situation worse... Hope it gets sorted soon. As albs says, you can't be the first in your position.

I know what you mean about handing baby stuff on albs. All of our stuff has been forced upon given to my sis and DD1's godmother (now a week overdue, poor thing), even though the latter certainly isn't short of the cash to do these things herself. Like to see our stuff being used again by those we love if we don't have any other LOs to use them .

Your scrapbooks sound gorgeous no1. The closest my girls get to such a lovely keepsake is a vaguely pretty box with all of their stuff chucked in . I wouldn't worry about DD1 yesterday. It sounds as though she enjoyed the time out so really the only issue is that she probably didn't see it as a punishment.

Sorry to hear about the bedtime traumas ann. I went through a phase with DD1 of resting my hand quite firmly on her back so that she understood that she needed to lie down and sleep but had the reassurance of my presence. It did work but killed my back. I now also do the leaving the room as sazz describes and it works well.

The netball sounds fab sazzles. I used to play but gave up at uni when it all became super competitive. Odd given that the captain at uni was the exact same girl as at school .

DD2 much happier this morning, thank you for all the sympathy . I caught sight of the ulcer and it's deffo still there but judging by her mood I think it must have shrunk as she had a bumper nap this morning and is back in bed now. Trouble is because I keep expecting her to wake anytime I've achieved absolutely nothing. Nada. Zip.

dizzydixies · 01/10/2009 14:50

guys am considering this sling anyone got any advice/ideas/opinions please?!?

laptop about to die to catch up in a mo

poppysocks · 01/10/2009 14:56

OMG did you know we were the fourth busiest thread last week on the whole of MN.

poppysocks · 01/10/2009 14:57

Partic. loving the apples and pears one dizzy.

sequinedsteaknife · 01/10/2009 15:04

Dizzy love that fabric. I was planning on making one from this giant pear fabric that is in the shop on the corner. (but the background is grey not white)

Thinking of this as sewing room fabric.

cyteen · 01/10/2009 15:12

dizzy that looks v much like the Rose & Rebellion carriers you linked to aaaaaaaages ago - I have one of those and it's excellent, so I say BUY! Especially the apples and pears one.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 01/10/2009 15:25

dizzy that looks like the mei tei one that miamla made me. Or should I say the miamlatei. sadly ds does not like it that much anymore.
I also get in a mess with the long ties on mine too.

I did use it the other day when taking dd to preschool, as he was asleep and I thought it would be easier putting him in that than the pram.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 01/10/2009 15:26

Thanks for making me feel better about dd/work.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 01/10/2009 15:32

I should also add that when I said I went to work, well It was hardly work was it.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 01/10/2009 15:35

dh just called to say thet my car is going to cost £300 at least to fix.

Last few days it has failed to start onn first attempt and I have noticed a very strong smell of petrol when getting ds out of the car. (his side only).
Turns out there is a little plastic thing on fuel pipe that is leaking fuel. (Just under where ds car seat is) They can not get this little part so have to order the whole pump. great.

dizzydixies · 01/10/2009 15:45

poppy that doesn't surprise me at all probably only beaten by the bar or something!!!

No1 - thats shit about the cost but frankly thank god nothing else happened - fuel leaks can be nasty

cyteen had forgotten about that one!

did I miss oops scan btw darn this pesky work nonsense getting in the way

alittlebitshy · 01/10/2009 17:51

Dizzy - no scan yet! just waiting for m/wife to get me a date.

We have had a horrible afternoon, DD has had a cold and been a bit poorly the last 3 days and today she was very pale and listless but still chirpy and eating and at 3ish I took off her t-shirt as she seemed hot and as the t-shirt touched her ear it set off the most agonising crying which carried on for about 15mins so I called the docs who said to bring her down to see someone. The doc in question was running 30 mins late so I had to sit in a waiting room full of grumpy old people with a baby who had by this time been screaming for 35mins. A lovely nurse took us into a treatmentroom and tried all sorts of things to calm DD down but in the end she decided she was in too much pain to want to play, although DD tried her best poor lamb. The nurse went in and disturbed the doc saying DD couldn't wait any longer as she was in pain. He checked her over and she has end ear and throat infection, they gave her a dose of some miracle painkiller and prescribed anti-b's and more magic liquid to take home. Finally nearly 1.5 hours after the start of crying she stopped and had an ice lolly and is now running about under the magic spell of the pain meds. I am dreading tonight as she can only have it 2x a day but can have neurofen in the night.

sequinedsteaknife · 01/10/2009 18:21

oops for you and for DD. I hope she konks out like VG says.

VG the fabric I have my eye on is GIANT pear fabric. The pears are about 30cm high. I think it would make fab chair covers but may have to be happy with some cushions. It would also be great for kitcheny things like aprons and oven gloves - both of which I need btw. [oooh fabric]

dizzydixies · 01/10/2009 18:41

oh no oops poor P - lets hope the anti-bs kick in really quickly and she's happy as Larry again very soon

VG the wrap I had was too hot for lardy me in the summer so she wasn't in it a huge amount but I was tempted by one for on my back as her fav place is being carried, which is exhausting - I was going to fund this one by sticking my closer carrier on ebay or trying to sell it to someone - the curtains/cushions sound divine btw - I love all those apple/pear fabrics - all very Orla Keily

ALBS thats really kind of you thank you
