god we all seem to be having a nightmare at the mo..

dd2 had her mmr on thursday since then she has been a moany wingy pain in the bum.. she is normally quite placid so its driving me crackers..

dd1 still not 100%.. sickness sun/mon then the runs, now a hacking cough and a rash on her legs and tum.. virus me thinks..

ho hum, guess i'll be opening the wine extra early tonight

AnnVan · 10/10/2009 17:38

hi ladies. Well last night wasn't great (no surprises there) I'm thinking that I should tackle ditching the night feeds. DP's response? 'THat won't help anything, you should do it gradually' How exactly will that work? I really don't think it will tbh.
Anyway this morning DP is saying that maybe me drinking is causing the wakeups I doubt it, but this week I won't drink. I'm not going to start the new regime yet, as if it works DP will insist it's due to the lack of drinking and I'm damned if I'm having that.

Anyhoo, thanks for all the advice, I'm sure I will be following it once I've disproved DPs various ideas as to the cause of crap nights.
Oh and Buckets I will look forward to reading that book.

Will be back later to try and catch up but have a mammoth pile of washing to begin and children to feed. Holiday's over... was fab though, weather was brill and both DC absolutely loved the water. Just wanted to give you a laugh, do you remember my suitcase shenanigans because I had packed waaay too much, well it turns out that I had my scales set to pounds rather than kilos so in fact we had only 30ish kilos rather than the 70 we were allowed. Doh .

Off to tiptoe on the scales myself, I may or may not be over to HotMamas afterwards...

SazZaVoom · 10/10/2009 18:11

In that case hots you must only be 6 stone

ann Personally i think cutting down will confuse Seb. You are right to eliminate DP's thoughts first though and then tackle head on once you have proved your point

No1 I am only bringing DD2 on tues. It is a shame DD1 can't meet C but i am being wimpish about 4hrs on a train trying to contain them both

VintageGaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahdenia · 10/10/2009 19:27

Ann our sleeping improvement did come with my stopping night feeds. In my case I decided to stop feeding (day or night - that was where I was at, I am not suggesting that to you), when ds2 woke I offered him a cup of water or milk (he was already a proficient at drinking from a cup - I am not sure if Seb does that, or has a bottle?). He was quite unimpressed but I didn't feed him, and I can't remember exactly but he was certainly sleeping through very quickly - a matter of days - and that was going from a starting point of waking four or five times a night some nights. I couldn't believe it.

I am also a grobag girl and the only time we haven't used one was when we were in France over the summer and it was just too hot.

I swear by his routine as well (and I wasn' a big routiner with ds1, who was a poor sleeper and still hates going to bed). For me it's easier because ds2 easily recognises the signs of going to bed. We've not exactly reinvented the wheel!

Bath
Roam around his room naked
Nappy / PJs
(sometimes a 10-15 min ramble downstairs if he's not tired, or stories in his room)
Grobag
T bear
Sit down with him on lap & read one short story
Transfer to cot, he puts thumb in, kiss, night night etc, side up, light off, door.

DP probably does it slightly differently but main elements are same.

And if ds doesn't go to sleep happily and easily, chatting away to himself we are AMAZED. It does happen but it signifies to us that something is wrong. We always count our blessing that he sucks his thumb, I must say.

Then I go downstairs and start negotiations with ds1 to go to bed and it is the same old battle story it's been for the last eleven year...

steaknifethroughtheheart · 10/10/2009 19:41

Ann VG's post reminded me of something that I wanted to add about the night waking. When DD doesn't want to go back to sleep then I know it is something I am doing. I am giving her a reason to stay awake and not go back to sleep. Be it feeds, going in before she has had time to resettle or whatever. So basically if she knows I am going to go in and feed her then she won't resettle. Not sure if I've made sense of what I wanted to say.

iwascyteenagewerewolf · 10/10/2009 19:43

VG I love the roaming around the room naked Just as well really since I spend so much time chasing DS around the bathroom, new nappy in hand.

steaknifethroughtheheart · 10/10/2009 19:49

wotcha HP, Cy

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 10/10/2009 19:50

awww vg how you describe that routine is sooo lovely.

hotter you have been missed. Glad to hear you have had a great time.

sazzles I won't be fetching dd now, as dh has some hours so has booked Tuesday off.
She won't miss preschool then.
(annoying to have to pay even if they don't go)
Also I understand the 4 hour journey would be a nightmare if it was with my two.
I have been thinking how would I get my low loader double pram on train/tram etc.. so think dh took the hint.

lucky sorry to hear that you have two poorly ones too.

dd better, but still not herself iykwim.
She fell asleep in her chair earlier, just as I was dishing out tea. bless.

Oh and I took ds for his MMR on wednesday and it was the other one that I missed at 12 months. So another 4 week till MMR.
Bit worried as my friends little one was 3 days from having his MMr and got measles.

He was very very poorly. I have never seen a little one look so ill. Was a very very worrying time.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 10/10/2009 19:52

Joe calzaghe (sp?)

iwascyteenagewerewolf · 10/10/2009 20:42

Helloo-oo-oooooo....

So steaky, would you say it was possible to make this dress in a deep emerald green silk?

I need to step away from the dress hunt Have thoroughly confused myself now.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 10/10/2009 20:48

OOOOHHHH wolfy wow. That would look stunning in Emerald Green.

Have you seen the film Atonement. (fab book) well the Green dress that Kiera Knightly wears is my dream dress. The colour is to die for.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 10/10/2009 20:50

Well in fact it is more the colour I love than the style, but still looks great.

iwascyteenagewerewolf · 10/10/2009 20:52

Just googled it

LUSH

Don't think it would drape quite so well on me though hips thighs mummytummy

TwilightSurfer · 10/10/2009 20:52

HP! so glad you're home. I can't wait to flip through your vaca pics.

VG your night routine is pretty close to Reese's.

Pics done! I'm disappointed though....I forgot to take my glasses off. I'd planned it so well too. Hopefully I'll get to see the results in a day or two. I'll be sure to share the link if I can.

Question: Is it odd that a child gets a rash when they had some sort of virus? Our doctor didn't seem bothered at all, like it was quite normal. However, folks who saw Reese last week were dumbfounded. I'm confused. Is MY child the ONLY child to have a rash that's not contagious????

OP posts:
OOOOOOOOOOOpsacoconut · 10/10/2009 21:09

TS - don't worry about the rash, post viral rashed are very common in children. DD had one a few weeks ago after a night of horrible fever.

VG - our night time routine is also very similar bath, naked time, dress and milk, story, walk about with papa saying night night to all her favorite things, then I sing her a song or 2 in the dark, in bed, sleeping by the time I get down the stairs.

Ann - I found the giving up BF in the night difficult as DD was wouldn't feeding in the day after breakfast. I started buy not feeding between 12 and 4, then 11 and 5 now she only gets BF when she comes in with us at about 5.30/6am then after breakfast.

HP - jollies sound great.

DD fell asleep on the way from my parents and is currently destroying DH's newpaper as bedtime failed spectacularly after sleeping until 6.30. I am off to bed shortly so DH can handle her.

steaknifethroughtheheart · 10/10/2009 21:12

TS DD got a rash after he cold, twas just the virus coming out not contagious, went after three days.

Twitt twoo wolfie that dress would be gorge in green silk.
Seems like lots of people want to see the atonement dress as google actually suggests it as a search I actually think KK doesn't actually look that good in that dress - it looks like the top is too big on her. I think it is just the wrong cut for her.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 10/10/2009 21:24

steaky yes the neckline was the only bit that I didn't like.

You also just reminded me that dd came home from preschool the other day saying that they had a story about an owl.

She said it was called Suzie? and she said that owls say
'Twit to You'

steaknifethroughtheheart · 10/10/2009 21:27

Twit to you!

Love it!

TwilightSurfer · 10/10/2009 21:28

Cyteen I like that dress too! I'd so love to be able to wear stuff like that every day.

OP posts:
OOOOOOOOOOOpsacoconut · 10/10/2009 21:37

Wolfie - that dress is amazing, I am unfortunately too tubby the wrong shape for those type of dresses.

AnnVan · 10/10/2009 22:27

Hmmm you know I'm not keen on that dress (the atonement one that is, wolfie's one looks fab )
Maybe I'll get a dress like that for special occasions.
Seb is in bed now. Fingers crossed for tonight, but not getting my hopes up either
