Struggling to load pages these days and saw we were over the 900 so took the liberty of starting a new thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bitofadramaqueen · 16/10/2009 06:23

i'm still here!

DebInAustria · 16/10/2009 07:29

Morning everyone, BDQ - you were on early.

I was wondering what A thinks of his new baby brother. Do your lo's get jealous? If I am cuddling one of the older boys then Ethan tries to push them off me!

SpiderWilliam · 16/10/2009 08:18

I am wondering the same Deb. I find it amazing that I was taking pictures of P and A on Monday morning, and now A has a baby brother. I think I will hold off sending Sponge the photos as somehow they aren't really going to cut the mustard this week!

How is the snow today?

SpiderWilliam · 16/10/2009 08:20

ktpie think Facebook has suggested that I befriend your Dad! Either that or your husband is much older than you and I have just put my foot in it . His initials are SH.

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 16/10/2009 08:35

Morning all and hello Lifeistooshort

Nothing to report here, although the Pocket Dictator got a new dog the other day (put it in her mouth in the shop and I was obliged to buy) and now insists on taking it everywhere. Most odd.

SpiderWilliam · 16/10/2009 09:16

Puree I love the fact that the dog is called Roy. Classic!

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 16/10/2009 09:23

Tragic too- now I have to say "Have you got Roy" whenever we go somewhere

Rolf · 16/10/2009 09:50

Spiderwilliam I am sniggering and cringing at the thought of you putting your foot in it with ktpie . That's brilliant that facebook thinks you should be friends with her dad!

Puree love Roy . DD1 has a dolly called Ugly Naked Baby. And another one has the same name as me and she loves bossing it around.

ktpie · 16/10/2009 09:53

Spider - yes that is my Dad, if you did make friends with him I think you would be his second friend, I wouldn't suggest it though! DH is on FB but refuses to take part and remains a question mark.
The beard was great, I found it hard to listen to what he was saying as the beard was putting me off a bit.

Abdn - glad you enjoyed your holiday, sounds lovely.

Puree - how cute about Roy!

Debs - if DH is holding J and I try to cuddle them both I am pushed away. Wonder how he will react to the baby.
The miming sounds great, we just get pointing and shouting here.

I woke up at stupid o'clock this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Is it crazy that I started getting cross again about coat stealing woman? She has gone from possibly innocent to guilty as charged in my head now. I really should get out more.

SpiderWilliam · 16/10/2009 09:55

LOL Puree.

Has anyone else received this text from Sponge?

"Hi guys, can I ask a quick question? One MW has said if BF hurts after first couple of sucks latch is wrong, pull off and try again. Another has said it hurts, get on with it! M seems to be latching and sucking well, but it hurts like hell. Is this ok?"

I have replied saying I can only tell her my experience (which may not be 'correct') which was that the first minute or two of each feed hurt like mad, but this wore off after the first couple of weeks. I have offered to post on the BF boards for her. No reply yet. Anyone got anything to add?

I am out from late morning on, so thinking I may not be too much help later on in the day if I do start a thread.

ktpie · 16/10/2009 10:03

Spider - it hurt for me, I used to mess about trying to get the latch right but not sure it didn't just make it worse. I seem to remember the first few days it was real toe curling stuff, but then it does improve.

vivaGlasvegas · 16/10/2009 10:03

Ooh, Puree we have Cordy Roy Elephant, although it has been renamed Henty in our house. I love Jelly Cat toys, am becoming slightly obsessed with them on C's behalf!

lifeistooshort and rolf how lovely to hear from you both again.

BDQ you are up far too early.

any updates on Sponge today? I really hope she's getting the success with feeding that she was so anxious about. I have efverything crossed x

amber I will consider doing an analysis of MJ just for you. perhaps this evening.

deb how cute is Ethan is his snowsuit?!

I love this thread. I just read one about trolling and it was horrible. nasty people who do that kind of thing, and nasty suspicious people who start shouting troll. I knew there was a reason I stick to here, arts and crafts and telly addicts...

vivaGlasvegas · 16/10/2009 10:06

x-posted. Tell her to slap on the lansinoh like crazy before and after each feed, and try and make sure his mouth is as open as possible (i.e. mid feed) I seem to remember that it was very sore for the first few seconds/minute of each feed at the very beginning but as you said Spider it wore off very quickly.

give her our love x

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 16/10/2009 10:23

I had the latch bang on (or so said MW) and it hurt like buggery at every feed for a good couple of weeks, but did wear off after first few minutes. I second Lansinoh and perseverance. Give her a hug from me.

Rolf · 16/10/2009 10:52

I found that even a correct latch would hurt like hell at first but then wore off. I got blisters on my nipples (tmi?!) and I guess that when the baby started suckling it would break the blisters and irritate the tender skin underneath? IME the most important thing is to make sure that Michael's mouth is wide open, his tummy is towards hers and she can see his little ears wiggling. It's what you can see, rather than what you can feel, in these early days I think.

I personally didn't find lansinoh useful although I know I'm in the minority. I reckoned that my nipples needed toughening up, not soothing. A friend in Australia was advised to try wearing her t-shirt without a bra towards the end of her pregnancy, to toughen up her nipples a bit.

Also Sponge's afterpains will probably be much worse this time round, and worse still when she feeds Michael.

Send her my love please, anyone who is in text contact with her

Hello Viva . Lovely to see you too!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 16/10/2009 10:54

The first few weeks bf'ing were painful but it did get better.

DS has croup, anyone any experince of it please?

vivaGlasvegas · 16/10/2009 11:14

just realised I said mid-feed instead of mid-scream!

no experience of croup going sorry, but poor DS

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 16/10/2009 11:18

Rolf The after pains with DD2 were horrendus, worse than labour! WIth ds I got strong painkillers before I even had a chance to notice them!

Viva DS seem
s happy enough just sounds awful.

Amberc · 16/10/2009 11:28

Hello all! Glad to hear Sponge is breastfeeding and with everyone's support I'm sure she'll be fine this time round. Hope I get the same if when I have another .

Puree - Cecily's a crafty one isn't she?! Genius - it's a bit like licking a bit of food so nobody else can eat it! How was the party yesterday hun?

Spider - any news on the remote control?

Lifestooshort -saw you on the July TTC and was gonna join but am leaving it till next month! How long have you been TTC? On that note have preiod pains today but not due for 7 days. Is that a sign (she says knowing full well she probably ate too much last night!)

Ktipie Luke gets mega jealous if I go near another child or if Mark cuddles me he tries to drag him off!

Anyone got any questions for Gordon Brown?

vivaGlasvegas · 16/10/2009 11:39

rolf I think the Lansinoh is supposed to help toughen up, rather than soothe but I would have to check.

amber meant to ask, I take it the blood results that you had to wait for were OK?

ktpie · 16/10/2009 11:49

No idea about croup Goingto, not really sure what it is. Hope it gets better soon.

Amber - J doesn't seem too jealous of me, other kids can cuddle me and he doesn't mind, DH on the other hand is a different story.
Are you going to meet GB?

Viva - I'm a jelly cat fan too, managed to resist a big pile of them in a shop the other day, should have given my favourite to J to chew on!

Amberc · 16/10/2009 11:55

Ktipie LOL at meeting GB! No he's doing a webchat here today on MN!

Viva - all tests normal which was good. Just unlucky so far.

Amberc · 16/10/2009 11:57

Forgot to say. Got call from boss yesterday. They are offering voluntary redundancy. If they don't get enough people take it up it becomes compulsory. What a nightmare. Anyone on maternity leave would be a fool not to take it as they would be taking 6 months salary on full time as opposed to coming back part time - it would take a year to earn that money. I am shitting myself though as I'd go mad without my job.

pumpkinpureeandghostlypearls · 16/10/2009 11:57

Goingto- we've had croup. What do you want to know????

Amber- party next thursday. LOL at crafty daughter- wonder where she gets it from??? And the only question I have for GB: is he even going to bother to stand at next election?

Rolf · 16/10/2009 12:00

Thea climbs up onto my lap if I'm cuddling any of the others so she is getting a bit possessive, and DD1 doesn't like me even to speak to anyone else . DH and I tried for ages this morning to talk about something and every time he opened his mouth she started shouting. It also took two teachers to get her into school this morning. On the way to and from school whenever either of the boys try to chat to me, she interrupts. We are trying very hard to make it clear that we love all of them but when Thea is smiling and waving, and DD1 is screaming and kicking, it's quite difficult to do it with any credibility .

I asked my dad about it and he said that I was worse
