No, haven't tackled MIL yet. I keep thinking I should rise above it, but I have to bite my tongue every time she does it. FIL can say it right, it's just her. I'll let you know when I tackle her!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 01/10/2009 23:00

I haven't read through as you lot don't half blether on . Just wanted to say that I did buy a housecoat at the market (24 Euros, what a rip-off!!), DD1 took photos but I've lost the lead that joins the camera and computer in holy matrimony - going to try and rectify tomorrow.

The lady at the market stall looked quite askance at someone so young, glamorous and stylish as myself buying said garment, she's probably still talking about it now.

And who accused me of 'loving' ironing? I do not. I may have to iron now and find it not as hideous as I expected, but love it? Non! I love folding

Oh and thanks to blotted on FB, I have bought this for DD2's birthday in 3 weeks. She will probably keel over with delight.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 01/10/2009 23:21

tummum you may have concussion - take it easy, chick. I had it once, having tripped and headbutted a wall (note: alcohol and high heels were involved) and felt incredibly sick and dizzy.

saus MIL woes. Look, I'm with you on this one, she probably did spend ages on them but that doesn't mean you have to have them on the wall. Except for when she comes round to visit . My MIL went through a phase, when she married knob-face she's married to now, of discarding her old junk onto us and making stupid plates and whatnot. I skipped it all and told her to stop. I will admit it caused some unpleasantness but we're ok now . I feel a bit bad sometimes but.....

And as for your DP - I'm sending an arse-kicking his way

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 01/10/2009 23:26

Oh man. There's a poster called 'Dizzymare' on MN, she's just lost her twin girls at 21/22 weeks. I can't even begin to fathom her pain. I just had to rush and cuddle S when I read the post.

Off to bed now, feel desparately sad.

llareggub · 01/10/2009 23:33

I've just seen the thread Grumpy and I also feel really sad. So, so terrible. I can't imagine how she must be feeling.

LoobyLou36 · 02/10/2009 07:42

sausage thank god my MIL is not into making things don't envy you the teddy clock
got a feeling we'll be getting loads of crap come christmas tho judging by what my DSD gets bought

good luck with your in-laws flippin 10 days to go

LoobyLou36 · 02/10/2009 07:47

grumpy M was great on hol - slept thro 2 bumpy landings and one take off - now seasoned traveller

LoobyLou36 · 02/10/2009 07:49

just saw dizzymare thread

ladyhelen2 · 02/10/2009 08:29

Morning all.

flippineck 11 days with your ILs. Much respect to you girl. I can barely stomach 11 hours with mine. Have you a stash of wine and choc to get you through?

saus I did have a chuckle at your description of the teddy bear monstrosity I have to admit, but your DH needs reminding who's in charge here!! Did you ever get any response from your old NCT group BTW?

Can't bring myself to read the thread you've mentionned. Poor poor thing.

We're off to Goose Fair this morning. And I have a new coat to wear . A lovely grey hooded parka type thing. i'll try and link if anyone remotely interested. I didn't have a housecoat to put on, but then by defintion, a housecoat is a HOUSEcoat, not made for external wear one presumes.

LoobyLou36 · 02/10/2009 08:59

when we went to M&B group yesterday our HV was there, told her about M grasping food off our plates, always hungry etc, she said time to wean. So have just tried her with some baby rice and she loved it! She did end up wearing some of it tho!

sophietom · 02/10/2009 09:28

so Grumpy you love folding... hmmmmm... have you tried origami?

sophietom · 02/10/2009 09:34

Oh and Jamie O- he's not that bad is he? just a bit over enthusiastic... I love his food magazine

To all those spending time with ILs I salute you...
and saus could you maybe put the teddy thing up for a while and then 'accidentally' break it whilst dusting?

ReeBee · 02/10/2009 10:54

Morning

Very interested in all the pram / buggy conversations, and really looking forward to trying Felix in his pushchair seat now. Llare, we use the carseat for quick trips round the shops as well and have used the carrycot for days out but like you I'm finding he's too long. And I am totally sure he's getting bored as when walking the dogs this morning he was fine in the woods but when we went onto the fields he got fed up really quickly - too much sky!

Tummum thanks for the info on sleep training, F goes into his own room tonight (well, hopefully but I feel very sad about it so I might fold!) and after a few nights of him getting used to it I'm going to try to let him settle himself a bit more.

Ses, I worked in Keswick in my year out before uni and my mum and dad (and I suppose our new house) are only about 20 mins away. We're further north, near Caldbeck (between Carlisle and Cockermouth if that makes sense). It is really beautiful and every time I go past the 'Cumbria' sign I really feel like I'm going home. Ha, would just like to point out that there are some places in the lakes that don't begin with the letter C!! I just like a bit of alliteration on a Friday morning.

Oh saus, poor you. Sounds like you're really going through it. I'd be a bit fed up too. Is your DP perhaps a bit stressed about the wedding? My DH had a proper wobble before we got married - not about getting married (well, at least I hope not!), just about the stress of the situation - and ended up getting drunk a LOT and p1ssing me off a LOT. By the way, your posts always make me laugh out loud so hope you can keep your sense of humour intact through this crappy time.

belgian, how funny re your cat. How on earth did it get into the cupboard?!

Momino, I am a closet masterchef junkie. I sky+ it and everything... ahem

Looby, how exciting about weaning M, bet you're thrilled.

Right, need to go and look for the title deeds to some land we bought from the bowling club (our neighbours) a couple of years ago. Obviously we need them to be able to progress our house sale and equally obviously I've lost them misplaced them put them somewhere safe. So that's all the paperwork from the last 3 years to organise. I was going to sort all our paperwork out on mat leave before having Felix but got caught up in cleaning out the washing machine detergent drawer and other such vital tasks.

ReeBee · 02/10/2009 10:57

Maybe I won't be moving home after all: my mum's just texted me - she and my dad are having coffee in Carlisle and a girl with a ferret on a lead has just walked past, clearly out shopping.

That's random enough but then my mum said that the ferret was a white one and 'looked quite sweet'.

Dear god... only in Cumbria, surely?!

essenceofSES · 02/10/2009 11:03

Morning!
We have nothing on today so I'm still in my PJs and have just put O in a clean sleepsuit

Managed to finally get O asleep in his cot at around 10.45 last night. Then got woken up an hour later by the dogs barking. O stayed asleep so I went downstairs and let them outside. The younger one went running round the back garden like a mad thing barking her head off. (Might have to avoid the neighbours today!)
Was finally back upstairs half an hour later and ten minutes after that O woke up! Tried feeding him and putting him back in his cot but he wasn't having any of it so brought him into bed. He then slept until 4.30am and then 7.15am.

saus - unwanted gifts are so frustrating! We have a nasty wooden clock in the shape of Ireland from SIL. It has main cities marked on it but the one SIL lives nearest is marked in the wrong place!!

grumpy - find that cable and share that photo

Oooh! Text from friend asking if I want to meet her for an early lunch! I need to get going and shower and get out of these PJs!!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 02/10/2009 11:05

reebs when we were travelling down here, we had stopped somewhere in the middle of France at a Motorway Service Station thing and there was a man walking a cat on a lead. I have never seen such a murderous look on a animal before!

Just been to the bank to sort out a transfer, whilst I was trying to get it done in my best and most faltering French, Sophia lolled in my arms, farting, growling, gurgling, dribbling and smiling at anyone who had the foolishness to look at her. I never seen so many smiles and kisses bestowed on a baby before, the French adore children.

Why did Sophia think 4am was an excellent time to be awake and chatty?

Right must hoover (in my housecoat). Then do some origami ( sophietom). I love J's nappies on the photos btw!

essenceofSES · 02/10/2009 11:32

Oh well lunch is off as my friend had to be back at work for 12.30 so needed an early lunch and I really need a shower and change out of PJs before I face the world We're going to meet up next week instead.
That'll teach me for being so lazy!

ReeBee - no offence to ferret lovers but how can a ferret look sweet??!

ReeBee · 02/10/2009 11:50

SES that's exactly what I said to my mum! Then I got a text about the ferret racing they'd seen at a fete and how all the ferrets were clearly very domesticated. I think she might be going a bit doolally!

essenceofSES · 02/10/2009 11:56

ReeBee - Wow! That all sounds v random!

I'm browsing the internet for a highchair. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I was thinking of this one with the baby cushion.

Belgian - meant to say thanks for your M&S suggestion for a swimming costume

pulapula · 02/10/2009 12:57

Reebee- this highchair looks good, especially as it doesn't take up a lot of floorspace and looks like it can be used through to toddlerhood - my only comments are that as it doesn't have a tray, they will need to be pulled in to a table, which might not be so great if you are BLW as a tray is great for containing food and liquid. Also it doesn't look very supportive at the back for a very little baby or have over the shoulder straps so a little one might flop forward. I have a nice padded wipe clean highchair from mothercare which also has a removable tray cover which is great for cleaning and also gives the option to let them play after a meal whilst you clean up. The tray is a great size too. The only drawback is it takes up a lot of space.

it isn't quite this one but is quite similar.

SpangleMaker · 02/10/2009 13:02

Just waiting for the whirlwind that is my Dad and step-Mum to arrive and trying to let H have a nap & bit of quiet time before all the madness. It's mainly my step-mum that creates the noise but my Dad eggs her on.

Ses I like that one too. Do you know if it has a tray or will it fit under a normal height table? Sorry, more questions rather than advice.

Saus I'm not one to take pleasure from others' misfortune but your posts don't half make me laugh Seriously, I think you should have a sit down with your DP & tell him it's ok to be stressed out about wedding etc but not ok to deal with it the way he is. I wonder if he's feeling caught in between you & his mum and is running off to bury his head in a pint the sand? Sympathise with the dodgy presents. H has a massive 'forever friends' style teddy we hate and nearly gave up for a prize in a charity raffle the other day but then went all wimpy soft-hearted and kept it. Could your DP have a word with his mum & tell her you really appreciate all the gifts but only have limited space so perhaps she could ask you first?

Tummum · 02/10/2009 13:13

Meet up I have set up a new topic in our FB group so that we can figure who wants to join in the meet up, where we live (so we can choose an appropriate location) and any weekends to avoid. Really looking fwd to it.

Ses I bought the trip trap chairs for my DDs and love how they are still using them. I also find it great for them to 'help' me in the kitchen, as they stand on the step at the bottom and can reach the kitchen surface. I did buy the cloth cushion but it was rubbish because it got filthy immediately and was a bugger to wash, so it didn't last long on the chair. HTH.

SpangleMaker · 02/10/2009 13:14

Obviously in the circumstances I am not going to moan about gifts from MIL, but she does have an amusing habit of buying me all the useless useful kitchen gadgets from Bettaware/Lakeland/wherever. I have a drawer full of things like a device to hold cheese while you grate it, an egg-breaking machine, a thing to put in with bread to keep it moist, 5 egg separators and a giant plastic tube that you can put pasta & boiling water in and it cooks by itself.

The wine related gifts have proved useful though.
