FiByTheSea · 29/09/2009 21:04

llare iknowimustbemad is it hormones, the fact that i'm 39 or just plain craziness? I'm loving having 2 so much I'd love to do it again. I'm sure I wasn't quite this broody after ds? or maybe i was and I just think i wasn't ?! There must be tons of reasons... sensible ones... why we shouldn't have more... but my heart says 'go for it'. I'd need to persuade dh though as he's got a more sensible head atm.

Momino · 29/09/2009 21:35

Fi, brilliant post! some ideas like the metal spoon Ive not heard about but will try. Thanks!

about more dc's - go with your heart !

Belgianchocolates · 29/09/2009 21:52

I also hadn't heard about the metal spoon, but it makes sense I suppose when you think about it. Both my dcs used to love chewing my keys when they were teething. They're metal too.

I've just ordered a load of books of Amazon. The baby whisperer, the no cry nap book and another book and I've got this Dutch book coming too. I hope I'll get lots of tips to sort C's napping trouble out soon. Today she had 2 good naps, but both in the sling. She was so much happier. Usually she gets grumpier and grumpier as the day goes on. I don't mind her sleeping in the sling, but I don't think it can be a long term solution. I don't think the ap or DH would like carrying her around like that + she's fairly heavy already so I don't think I could carry her around as a toddler for hours on end.

oh no dandy how scary for your SIL I hope she feels better very soon.

Belgianchocolates · 29/09/2009 22:16

Oh dandy How awful. I hope your SIL is better soon.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/09/2009 22:22

belgian "fa. Handstede-Waanders

U kunt"

the whole thing sounds filthy

OP posts:
flippineck · 29/09/2009 22:27

spangle - sorry to hear about your MIL, hope everything goes smoothly and that you know more soon.

dandy - hope your SIL is ok too. I'm sure that now that she is bein treated all will be ok.

begian - your housecoats are just so...continental! And childish smirk at the kunting jokes too.

We had a bit of toilet excitement this evening. DD1 was bad tempered in the bath (as usual [rollseyes]), when all of a sudden she stood up and started clutching her bits (what do you call them with your two year olds?!), I was trying to find out what was wrong and she asked to sit on the toilet. Took her out of the bath and put her on the toilet and she did a wee! I know it's early days, but that's a good sign, right?!

A has been lovley tody, but then as usual a nightmare to get to sleep. Finally went to sleep at half past nine, no much evening left for me, but since she went to sleep I have managed to have two glasses of wine, half a bag of crisps, and now I'm drinking tea and biscuits. I wonder why I'm heavier than I want to be?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/09/2009 22:30

Sorry spangle and dandy I hadn't read through properly, trying to chat with DH as well as having S snoozing in sprawled fashion across me . I hope MIL and SIL are ok.

Everybody, not only does momi let her kids play with the dog's toys, they sleep in baskets too

grumpy It is all filthy. We're just a filthy breed us belgians

flippin Lovely housecoats, aren't they. Must try and see if my gm has kept one. It would be lovely to wear a continental style house coat at the big May 09 meet.
Great news about the leap forward in potty training. It's definitely a step in the right direction.

llareggub · 29/09/2009 22:48

dandy that's exactly what happened to me after my c-section. I was moved into a private room and put on an IV antibiotic drip. I've no idea what caused it but I also developed something called cellulitis and a wound infection. Oddly the actual reason for the IV went away really quickly so hopefully your SIL has the same experience apart from the cellulitis and eound infection.

FiByTheSea · 29/09/2009 22:56

llare cellulitis is blood poisoning if i remember right. A friend of mine got it from catching her leg on a rusty bit of metal it was easily treatable with AB but was scary with how quick it took hold.

llareggub · 29/09/2009 23:01

Really, Fi? I had no idea. No one told me that. What was scary is that the doctor checked me out when I was shivering a lot and told me I was fine. Luckily the midwife was rather more observant and dragged a consultant in.

Dandy, I'm sure she'll be fine and will pray for her too.

Momino · 30/09/2009 06:47

grumpy, ... didn't tell you about the dog biscuits.

Dandy, how scary for your sil. hope she's better and home today.

flippin, at bathtime yesterday our 2 yr old gave me a funny look then proudly said 'i weed in the bath'. sigh. at least she's conscious of it i suppose .

we've sat her on the loo a few times but nothing. i know shes only just 2 but still keep hoping she'll potty train soon. i just can't force her though, she doesn't seem interested. also, i need her to have an actual wee in the potty before I get serious about putting her in pants. but I'm desperate to get her out of nappies.

bad night again last night. Harper up 3x and dd1 up 3x. I'm not sure why H is so unsettled at night, she seems to feed/nap well during the day. I do the easiest thing at night waking which is to bring her into bed and feed her. tonight, i'm going to try a dummy as well as make an effort to rock her or settle her somehow without feeding.

hope you all had better nights.

Tummum · 30/09/2009 09:24

Monimo you should see the state of G after he's been rolling around on my rug... his face is usually covered in hair (mine and the cats), leaves (the latest trend in our household - bring leaves in then shred them all over the rug whilst watching beebies). So I don't bother sterilising anything other than bottles, and not sure I will continue that for much longer... !

Re Potty training I am really hoping that DD2 has cracked it, but we had to wait absolutely ages for her to be ready. She was 3+3 months before she showed any signs of wanting to do anything, and it has taken a couple of months. But so far we've had a whole week of no accidents, which is fab.

Dandy and Spangle praying lots for your relatives. How scary for you.

I've been attempting to train G to stop waking up at night. He has been waking up at about 3am, but not properly, so I have been waiting for him to properly wake up before going in to feed him. And also, trying to make sure the dream feed is a massive feed to top him up overnight. So last night he was awake and talking to himself between 3-3.45, then went off to sleep then awake again at 5am when he really did need a feed. I am hoping he will stop waking at 3am so that I can get a decent stretch of sleep 10.30-5am and then move the 5am feed towards a semi-decent time. Keeping fingers crossed that this works.

Anyway, exciting day for me today as I have signed up to sell some lovely greetings cards and my stock is due to arrive today. Can't wait. Hope you all have lovely days.x

llareggub · 30/09/2009 10:07

Oooooh! My friend has just had baby girl number 3. Broody all over again seeing the first pictures...

Morning all.

Momino · 30/09/2009 11:45

tummum, going to follow your attempts in training G to sleep at night. last night she woke at 12.30 am and was happy-chatting at first but then went on to fuss until it was apparent she wasn't going to soothe herself. I brought her into bed and she instantly started cooing and giggling and took a good feed before falling asleep. maybe i should dream feed her at 10pm.

Febes · 30/09/2009 12:57

Tummum You have offically made me jealous. DS went to bed with me at 9pm then woke at 12, 2, 4, 6 and then we all woke at 8am. I don't know what is going wrong. DD was such a good sleeper. I don't feel like I have got DS into a routine properly yet and he is resisting naps as well he will sleep in the sling or the buggy but if I try to put him into his cot he just screams. I have to feed him to sleep if I want to put him in his cot. I rang the HV about it and I'm waiting for her to get back to me.
Also DDs BCG vaccination site is concerning me. Its huge and angry looking. I hope she can help.

Dandy and Spangle I hope you hear some good news RE your ILs today.

I have decided to register as a childminder. The next course in my borough is January. I'm second on the waiting list so hopefully I will get a place. I will see what happens before handing in my resignation from school.

pulapula · 30/09/2009 13:26

febes- S is still feeding 2 or 3 times a night which is not quite as much as R but is still every 2-4 hours. If your HV has any good tips, then please let me know. I usually try a dummy first but if that doesn't work, then i just feed him. I said to mine that if it is still happening at 6 months, i will start offering water in the night. She suggested the first thing to try would be to see if solids sort it out- if not then try water. She also said to me to not worry about introducing solids at 21/22 weeks which is when some babies start waking a lot, as i need my sleep.

ReeBee · 30/09/2009 14:07

dandy, spangle, hope your ILs are recovering / ok.

all the night waking chat is v interesting.

febes how exciting about your career move. Fingers crossed you get on the course.

quick post to say we've been at the hospital all morning for F's paediatrician's appt to see whether there's anything wrong with his brain and he's fine. He had lots of examinations and then a scan in SCBU and is perfectly perfect. Thank goodness.

got to go, lots of house stuff to sort out and DH is away all week (again)

pulapula · 30/09/2009 14:23

reebee- what a relief that F is perfectly perfect . So glad to hear that.

spangle and dandy- also wishing your ILs speedy recoveries. Hope everything is OK.

I am really pleased with some impulse clothing purchases today and yesterday - I just wear the same nursing tops and jeans every week so it was nice to get some different clothes for the winter weather, and also for a night out on Sat for DH's birthday and my mum and dads ruby wedding party in 2 weeks time. They did cost a lot of money but i figured i am still fortunately on full pay so I can afford it .

llareggub · 30/09/2009 14:34

Reebee great news! You must be so relieved.

Febes and Tummum good luck with the childminding and the cards.

Night waking to be honest I've no idea what G is doing. He is waking up at some point because he starts off in the cot and when he wakes I bring him into bed with me. Last night I couldn't sleep and I'm sure he fed most of the night. Poor old DH ended up with DS1 as he had nightmares (DS1 obv) and I could hear them both snoring!

We're going to attempt brioche again this afternoon. I hope it is more successful this time.

Spangle and Dandy any news?

llareggub · 30/09/2009 14:36

Pula I meant to say that I also did some impulse clothes buying yesterday and feel a lot better for it. I bought leggings and two jersey tops/dresses to wear with them and a long cardigan. I am really enjoying clothes shopping in my new size, but I can no longer convince DH that it is because I have no clothes in my new size. I have plenty now so will have to think of something else...

sophietom · 30/09/2009 15:12

Great news Reebee I bet you feel a weight has been taken off your shoulders
Febes exciting career change- will you be able to work less hours as a childminder do you think? I am hoping to be a part-timer when I return to work
Spangle and Dandy hope your ILs are on the mend x

A feeding top I ordered ages ago arrived in the post yesterday- tried it on this morning and decided I would return it, then the phone rang so still wearing the top I scooped Jake up onto my shoulder to go and answer the phone- guess what? Jake was sick right down my arm so I guess I'm keeping the top... oh well, it's quite nice really just a little low cut (why do nursing bras always show on low cut/strappy tops or is it because of my big bazookas? )

Hmmm and llareggub and pula you have inspired me to go on a shopping trip tomorrow. I need to treat myself because a) I'm fed up of having hardly any clothes that fit b) I just turned 30 (booo!) c) My pay goes down after next month so won't be able to treat myself then and d) Jake agreed it was a good idea (well he smiled when I asked him)

Belgianchocolates · 30/09/2009 16:05

I've done a little shopping here as well. We've got a designer outlet here and got some bargain jeans. I've finally got skinnies again, yay. It's great to have bought them in a proper shop for once where you get help for fit etc... All I need now is a tunic or something. All my winter tops are really boring. They still fit, but are just plain roll neck jumpers/plain t-shirts and I'd like something a little more girly. Sadly I'm on just SMP from this month, so I'm scouring eBay for nice things at the moment. Can't afford full price stuff anymore.

Sophietom I was wondering the same about strappy nursing tops. BF bras are huge, so why do they make bf tops so low cut? It just makes no sense.

Reebee Great news. You must be so relieved. I'm sure you thought he'd be fine, but there's always that little voice of doubt, isn't there?

Febes Good luck with the childminding. I did it for a year, but oddly enough I struggled to get enough customers (why when they're always going on about shortages). In the end I found all the paperwork too much hassle for what I was earning, so I left and retrained yet again as a mw. The cm course itself was easy enough though.

Right. Better go. I promissed to hand over the computer to the dcs now.
