Hope you don't mind the dodgy thread name but all our babies are 9 months old now or in the next few weeks

Hello everyone,

Just a quick hello, it is lunchtime , to everyone and to give some support to WG, daisy and trace. I hope things get better for you all very soon.

JJ Hurray for the nursery place. That is really good news.

It is DD's second day at nursery today. She was just so fantastic yesterday, settled in really well, ate everything offered to her, and even had a nap. I hope it reassures anyone who has this to come. I was teary all day though!

daisy Just ignore your MIL. What a bonkers thing to do when DS is having such trouble with his sleep at the moment.

Best get some work done..

daisydora · 01/10/2009 13:35

wg That it amazing! Well done, I am so proud of you and madam. I think we may have to go down the CC route...DH is off for 4 days after today. I think i will speak to him tonight and see how he feels about it. I suspect I am more open to the idea than him though.

jolly Great news that DD is doing so well at nursery!

Well, DH took DD to pre-school this morning and DS in his pram. He promised to not return till he had picked DD up at 11.30 so I could get some sleep. He returned at 10am, with DS shouting and making noise so I got about 40 mins. I have such a headache. Mum is at my GP's today but is coming on the way home to take over teatime and bathtime so I don't go into meltdown.

Uh oh DS awake (20 mins into his nap - again!!!) best go and get him!

Turniphead1 · 01/10/2009 14:09

WG - that is so great!! What a lovely new skill you are giving Madam. Fingers crossed that night 3 won't be too testing - but at least you are prepared.

Daisy - what a horrid night for you, you poor thing. I guess with CC you both have to be firmly committed. Obv one of the worst things you can do is start it - and then cave in - as you put them through the crying to no avail. I guess you need to be ready. I hope you can come to a decision that is right for you both.

Urbane ahhh - hi Lal!! did think you sounded familiar but have missed so much.

Jump that is such such lovely news about the nursery! I love it when something unexpected like that all works out. Brilliant!

NJAN - that sounds like such a great day. We all need to do that sometimes - it's so easy to just keep going and going and going!

Right need to do some work. Waiting for my new dishwasher to be delivered and just KNOW it will be at point at which I need to do school run.

jumpjockey · 01/10/2009 14:49

WG hurrah and huzzah, that is completely brilliant and three cheers for Madam and you and Mr WG. Keep strong for the third night... as lots of people have said, it's a very valuable skill you're giving her and now that she's that bit older, she knows mummy and daddy are there and she's not been totally deserted.

daisy love, where are you in the country, could any of us come over and take the dcs out so you can get some rest?

KiwiPanda · 01/10/2009 19:14

woo hoo I am doing a happy little dance for you WG! Cross fingers tonight is good too!

pmk1 · 01/10/2009 19:21

Hello -
Wow WG - brilliant! What a result. I'm glad to hear about that "wind down cry" as that is how we got ds to go to sleep without the dummy - it was usually the wind down one so we left him and it only took 3 nights also - bet you are so happy.
Great news JJ
And lady - how exciting for you - it's all going ahead now. Would love to see it!
Veggie - very exciting and stressful all at the same time! You can do it - you sound like the Queen of organisation and multitasking!!
Urbane / Lal Serpentine swimming? I kind of causht the tale end of that comment I think!! Sounds like you had fun though!! Hope there was cheerfulness involved!
Hope you get a childcare solution sorted.
Right, got a few things to do, oh and I put some pics on FB finally!

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2009 19:23

Hooray WG that is amazing well done all of you. I'm quite nervous about tonight now, will await your post tomorrow with much anticipation.

Daisy, did you get anymore when your mum came. I'm glad she was coming to help with dinner and bath. If I'm tired and DH isn't home I can hold it together if I put a DVD or cbeebies on but dinner and bath is always a nightmare and usually end in tears.

Have a nice time in London Lady, any reason for this trip? Heard anymore from the evil employers?

Still trying to get DS2 to sleep all running a bit behind tonight as DS1 & I had optometrists appointments but they were running late so we did some shopping then went back to Optical express only to find they had cancelled our appointments as they were running so far behind! I kicked up a fuss about being mean to build a child up to the appt only to cancel him and we had waited 2 weeks for the appt (general rantng ensued) so they fitted DS1 in and have reschedualled my appt for tomorrow afternoon and it will be free, hooray! DS1 was such a star for his eye test and happily everything is fine, he hasn't inherited DH's colour blindness and no astigmatism so far yay!!! Apparently they should have their eyes tested every year so will have to remember that. Anyway we didn't get home til gone 6 so late tea and bath. Luckily I'd already cooked their tea so just had to reheat but they are both still awake and DS1 is only just having his bath.

SL why if your MIL so desperately wanted to do the horse and cart thing could she not go by herself of just with your DH. I can completely understand. Going out to dinner is one thing, if he kicks off you can take him for a walk to settle and shove him in a corner in the pushchair but on a cart??? Stupid women!

So lovely to have you posting regularly Turnip!

daisydora · 01/10/2009 19:49

jj thanks for the offer of help. Only just read it and the support of you ladies brought a tear to my eye. BTW I live near Preston, up Norf!! Thankfully mum took over just before 4pm, so she took the DC's to hers while I had another sleep, then she brought them home for bed. I LOVE MY MUM!!!

Anyway she stayed till they were both asleep, just after 7pm and DS went to sleep without a peep. I suspect Nanny has given him a good talking too

Right early night for me, and hoping for the best.

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2009 20:43

Sending sleep all night vibes to you daisy!

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2009 21:14

Hooray for madam!!! That's really top news, WG, hope tonight ok, but whatever happens, you woke up this morning with a refreshed little baby and soon you won't be waking at 3.45 to see if she's still alive! Do you do the CC for daytime naps as well? If so, how is that working and how long does she sleep for? .

Daisy, all my sympathies and glad your mum came through. Hope things better tonight. You mentioning you live near Preston reminded me I should have got in touch when we went up there recently to see DP's folks. Will remember next time. .

So glad you had a positive experience at nursery, JB, it is reassuring to hear, though I suspect I'll be in floods of tears too when the time comes. And really good to hear your news too, JJ.

T not sleeping well at the moment - unsettled during early part of the eve and waking for the day at 5/5.30 , and napping badly during the day. But as he has sometimes slept really well (the same hours as madam last night, no less) I suspect it's the pesky teeth. Could do without it tonight though as DP in Amsterdam.

Must must must start packing (we leave a week on Sat), why are we such last minute Larries?

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2009 21:28

oh, and those are gorgeous photos, PMK

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2009 21:52

LOL Spot I'm stressing about only having a month and your off next week!

waitinggirl · 01/10/2009 22:04

hi - so far so goodish. took 7 mins of crying to get her off. she woke 2 hours later, but only cried for 3 mins before falling asleep. waiting to see what the night holds.

btw - i know someone was asking about how to wean a baby off the sucking sleep association - who was it? i could then let you know how millpond suggested we do it. i've trawled the thread's last 6 pages and can't find who it was - thought it was trace - am i wrong? ]

mil here - i want to strangle her. she was complaining about having been awake since 4am all day. this evening when she repeated it to dh, i said "snap". her answer was "well, you're a bit younger than me". she knows we've been having sleep problems for months. but no, apparently it is a martyr competition and she wins hands down. ugh ugh ugh.

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2009 22:09

Yes, but then again Veggie I am A Loon.
So far tonight have packed...the alcohol. Lovingly, in newspaper. It's all spirits, if it were wine I'd have drunk it all, saved the space and continued the packing in a much more positive frame of mind .

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2009 22:12

Oh, and another thing, T has started sitting up in his cot when he's trying to sleep, and sometimes does it in the middle of naps and seems really surprised he got there and disorientated and still really tired. Does anyone else's DC do this? Am hoping it's a phase....

WG, do you think rythmically headbutting your MIL would have the triple benefit of knocking her out, making you feel better and the vibrations ensuring madam remains in blissful slumber?

Turniphead1 · 01/10/2009 22:19

Hi spot where are you moving too? Have missed everyone's news so forgive the repetition...

sorry T not sleeping well. My DD1 used to sit up like that and we found putting a light sheet over her with rolled towels securing same down the sides of the cot helped break the habit (I did feel a bit mean - it was essentially holding her down - but didn't mind it at all and without it she used to sleep for hours in a seating position and then get distressed when you lay her down...). Hope the packing goes well. Have a g"n"t!!

Daisy glad your Mum came to the rescue. You deserve a break. Hope they sleep well tonight.

PMK - waves! Saw your pics on FB. Gorgeous! Of you all!

SummerLightning · 01/10/2009 22:20

wg so happy for you! hurrah! You should have said to your MIL "Yes I am younger than you, I thought you old folks LIKED getting up early so it should be easy for you". Ooooh how annoying is that! Silly woman.

spot PMSL at your alcohol packing! Isn't that a bad idea? Won't you want it in the next week and half (or is it all dodgy licquers and ouzo brought back from holiday!)

waitinggirl · 01/10/2009 22:27

oh, spot, oh, spot. please can you come over and rescue me from the HORROR with your GREAT ideas???

i am taking madam (and mil) to a concert for the under 5s tomorrow. a friend suggested it for us - she is taking her 4 year old. mil hasn't got one good thing to say about it. i've told her she can stay at home. she won't. but then she wouldn't be a martyr, would she? i am full of uncontrollable, unfocussed rage. UGH

YummyorSlummy · 01/10/2009 22:35

Hi, I'm fairly new to mn but am also a December 08 mum- thought I'd introduce myself! My ds is a wriggling, squealing, boisterous little 9mth monkey! I've been practically a single mum the past 3 months as dh is on a detachent, so ds will seem huuuge to him when he returns!

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2009 22:42

of course, WG, twould be my pleasure .

Summer - you hit the nail right on the head. The haul includes bottles of Mirto, Sortilege, Unicum (a Hungarian beverage so foul it's only for dares). homemade Sloe Gin (about 6 years old) etc etc. Why we don't just sling them all out I don't know, I have in my head some kind of party where someone asks for something exotic and I brandish said holiday liqueur, but in actual fact I would probably poison them if they got that far...

Turnip,we're moving to Preston Park in Brighton so we can get a house rather than a flat but which will obv mean 3x as much cleaning

spotofcheerfulness · 01/10/2009 22:44

Hi Yummy, welcome!

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2009 23:04

Hi yummy lovely to have you!

Spot now you mention DS2 does that waking about 30 mins into a nap really tired still.

WG what on earth can she have against a childrens show? And look at my advice to Daisy on what to say to her MIL...ok I'll give you a clue it has the letters f u c k o f f involved.

Veggiemummy · 01/10/2009 23:10

Oh and Spot I would throw them, we decided to give some shots of 'exotic' drinkies at a party once...it was all bad.

spotofcheerfulness · 02/10/2009 07:07

But Veggie if I throw them I'll have done exactly no packing. If I bring them I've done one box

SummerLightning · 02/10/2009 07:13

Ah then spot, I have the solution. Throw them out when you move in....
