Hope you don't mind the dodgy thread name but all our babies are 9 months old now or in the next few weeks

Kayzr · 02/10/2009 07:39

Morning.

WG hope you had a good night. Your MIL sounds awful. I'm half tempted to hope Madam had a bad night and kept MIL awake but them she would've kept you up too.

Hello Yummy and welcome!!

Spot I see you have your priorities(sp) right and have safely packed the cheerfulness.

DS2 has started waking overnight again. He did go straight back to sleep once he had his water.

pmk1 · 02/10/2009 08:52

Hello Yummy! Welcome, what area are living?

Spot I am loving your packing style!

Lady, meant to say, how brilliant of your dd! She certainly sounds advanced! ds doesn't utter more than dadda!

Hoping all the babies on sleep tests did well?

Worst night ever here.... We rarely have them, but when we do.....

I think ds had wind from sucking on his bottle after he finished it, so woke at 11pm screaming with dirty nappy and loads of burping. Finally settled at 1am and dog kicked off as there was noise from the neighbours, then neighbour left at 0445 and their dog howled for a good hour, then finally myself to sleep (thankfully ds remained asleep) and recycling truck woke us all. Knackered....

Forgot to say, a friend of mines parents were right in the centre of that Tsunami - lost their whole resort, 2 cars, entire contents, everything, but all of them managed to get out. resorts either side of them wiped out and their friends either side dead - just awful. Amazingly they watched their cat get washed way out in a big wave then an hour later walked up the beach sopping wet. On it's 9th life I'd imagine....

Thanks for all the nice comments about my photos

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2009 09:54

PMK that's so hard for your friends I'm glad their alive but their lives are a bit messed up I guess. Amazing about the cat! A friend of mine was over there kite surfing thankfully he is fine but it's shaken him up a bit. I cried when they interviewed the prime minister of Samoa on the radio talking about his countrymen that were dead.

DS2 has finally started trying to copy what I say. Very cute. However, my fav trick he does is having a boogie. He really loves to get down and rocks his whole body in time to the music on the radio. What is everyones favourite thing that their LOs are doing right now?

Sorry about bad night pmk and kayz, ditto here.

And finally Spot pack it if you must but neck it when you arrive, then come on here, as your posts would be even more amusing!

JollyBear · 02/10/2009 10:08

Hello everyone,

Well DD survived her second day in nursery in tact. She is just as cheerful and happy to get with things there as she is at home. You might all think I'm mad but I don't like the way she smells when she comes home. It isn't foul or anything but it is unfamiliar scents of her days activities, meals I haven't seen her eat, other people she has cuddled. It makes me feel a bit sad that I'm missing out.

pmk1 How awful for your friends parents . Amazing about the cat though. I can't see any photos on your profile, is it just me who can't see?!

WG I find mental swearing very helpful when dealing with my MIL. I say "I don't think it is good for DD to try bakewell tart", when my mind is saying "Are you f**king mad, nuts woman, nuts..really?!!". Yours sounds a charmer!

spot Excellent packing, well done .

veggie Well done on standing your ground iwith the eye tests. Great news that DS1's eyes are tip top. Have you sorted out a new home for your cat or can he go with you?

lady Hope you are having fun in London. I was impressed by your DD's vocalising too. I dreamt DD's first word was book, I'd love that! Mine was more. My mum was feeding me and asked if I wanted more, more I replied. I was a greedy child .

trace Is everything OK with you? I expect work is busy and stressful at the moment with that poor girl dying after the cervical cancer jab. Lots of worried parents I suppose.

Hurrah for a day with DD, bye for now.

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2009 10:17

JB I never noticed smells on DS1 but that was mostly because I was distracted by his hysterical screaming. However i've had friends say similar things when they picked up their LOs from nursery.

pmk1 · 02/10/2009 12:28

Jolly, the photos are on FB
Veggie, can't wait for the meet up / house warming

traceface · 02/10/2009 13:13

hi all.
JB yes things have been quite busy at work - a few concerned (understandably) parents ringing about the vaccine, but thankfully we can give lots of reassurance now we know that the vaccine was unrelated. Poor girl though - how very tragic for her family.
Re nursery baby smell...yes! I used to the say the same when Lucy came home from nursery and I've noticed now with P. It's nice that she's getting cuddles and picking up smells, but I love it after her bath when she smells of her again. We don't use any products on her because of her bad skin, so she just smells natural and Phoebey! Although sometimes I think her head after a bath smells a bit like a wet cat
Well after another horrendous night I took P to the GP and she has an ear infection . So she's been on antibiotics since Wednesday. She's quite miserable and holding her ears a lot, and waking lots. Also her throat is so hoarse she has almost no voice, so whenever she's woken in the night I've just given her boob to soothe her throat and give her comfort. Following my heart and definitely not my head. My head is freaking out about how I will ever get her to sleep well! The HV rang me back and basically said do whatever it takes to get her over being poorly, then ring her when she's better and she'll help me out with sleep plan again.
WG It wasn't me asking about sucking, but I did ask about the practicalities of CC (how long, what you do when you go in, how long you stay in...). So pleased for you that it's going so well.
SPot lol at your attempts at packing!
Yummy hello! Nice to have you join us. Do you have any other DCs?
Where are spiggy and modern? Not seen them on here for a while. Are you ok ladies?
Ladyt I'm very impressed with O's skills! Phoebe manages "ada" on occasions but mainly just says "ah" and grins
Veggie I think my fave Phoebe things at the mo are when she grins and wrinkles her nose up, when she burps and gives herself a big clap for it, and when I say "give me a kiss" and she opens her mouth and plants herself on my face!
well Lucy has her dancing show tonight so my parents and the ILs are all coming to watch. I have to be backstage to dress her (she's in 4 dances all with different outfits!) but then I'll watch the performance tomorrow and another mum will do her outfits! It's 7-9.30 so she's going to be pooped as she's normally in bed by 7 at the latest, plus she woke up caked in snot this morning so is feeling ill . I'm sure she'll get through it with the excitement but I'm expecting the fall out on Sunday!
anyway I ought to go because the house is a bombsite and I ought to make an attempt making it presentable for the parents...

traceface · 02/10/2009 13:18

excuse the bizarre word order and random extra words... can you tell I'm tired?!

notjustanumber · 02/10/2009 14:17

WG How was the third night ?

I cant watch the news right now with the samoa and the nursery thing,]. I cried yesterday at an advert appealing for money to help the gurkhas (there was a picture), I cant cope with it at the moment !

Jolly, the nursery smell thing is a bit wierd, but think of it as evidence they have been having lots of cuddles. I just normally give him loads afterwards so he smells of me again

Veggie, my favourite thing is his hugs and kisses. Big open mouthes sloppy squeezes, especially for me and his brother. Anyone else is lucky to get them !

Trace I'm admiring you for coping so well right now. I feel a bit frazzled with working with 2 - you have to be so organised to get everything done - and with poorly children and a new job, I hope the girls get better soon....

A friend just visited with her little one. Still very broody But I wonder if having a third would disrupt the wonderful relationship DS1 and DS2 seem - they definitely have their own shared jokes etc...

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2009 17:05

Oh nothing from WG lovely to hear from you all esp Trace (I missed you) but I really wanted to hear how WG's infamous 3rd night went and also Daisy, if she got anymore sleep?

Trace these dance concerts are always stupidly late poor little kids. Wow that's she's in 4 pieces she must be good. My brother is a professional dancer and we did all the concert shmer when we were kids.

Well exciting news here DS2 stood today. After thinking I wanted to delay this milestone as long as possible I'm so excited. Mostly because he is so chuffed with himself. I put him down next to me while I loaded the washing machine and he stayed standing which was cool then upstairs a bit later he was kind of squatted down then he stood without touching anything then stayed standing then with the most chuffed look on his face he slowly squatted back down again then he must have been a bit surprised he hadnt toppled when squatting back down so he slowly stood back up again. The look on the face was a mix of happiness and surprise. I think like if you stand up on a surf board for the first time and can't believe you've done it. I can't help being so proud of him, and it's just a normal milestone, but he just looked like it was something he really wanted to do and was really happy to be doing it. Unfortunately DH & DS weren't home and he hasn't repeated it for them but still very cool.

This post has taken so long to write because DH had a call from the HR people the netherlands and has filled me in on it. As per usual he can't remember most of the conversation, are all men like that, I don't know how he does his job with such a crap memory, bless him.

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2009 17:08

Oh and NJAN I know what you mean I keep hearing about that nursery thing on the radio and I actually cry each time. Why won't she tell them which children she took photos of, is she worried the parents will sue or something? It's not like they will give her a bigger sentence if she does! The worst is it scares every parent who sends their child to nursery and gives good childcare workers a bad name.

waitinggirl · 02/10/2009 18:36

quick post: night 3 summary. took 13 mins to get her off (i said 7 - i was wrong), she cried for 3 mins 2 hours later and then .................................. woke at 6.30. yay! got to keep on going now. have lovely weekends, all!

daisydora · 02/10/2009 18:39

Welcome yummy lovely of you to join us.

trace poor P, and you on the lack of sleep. Much love and hugs to you both.

Oh and pmk, sorry to hear about your crappy night! BTW loved your FB photos, hes adorable.

Well, last night was marginally better. But DS still woke at 2am, and screamed on and off for 2 hours. In the end after giving him both milk and Calpol I left him in his cot to cry. But he fell asleep after about 10 mins or so and slept till 7. Strangely enough DH slept through all this and awoke to say'bloody hell has he slept through?'. Still he then got up with the DC's leaving me to have some more sleep. Thankfully, he is off now till Tuesday so I should be okay for getting the odd sleep here and there if things continue.

Hopefully be back later....

Veggiemummy · 02/10/2009 19:11

Sorry Daisy had to giggle about your DH thinking he had slept through, also wish things would improve more than marginally for tonight.

Am currently trying to get a very awake DS2 off to sleep, we are going to dinner tonight with some friends. The table is booked for 9.30 so plenty of time but DH and I would like to go for a drink first. DS1 is very awake too. Last night I had to go to DS2 6 times between his bedtime at 7 and our bedtime at 11pm. I'm hoping it was just because he refused his dinner last night so was hungry and maybe teeth. Tonight he ate all his dinner, DS1's leftovers and 2 plums so hopefully that will do him. But have given him so brufen just in case.

zoejeanne · 02/10/2009 22:33

Hi everyone, just bookmarking myself. I've been lurking all week, and I'm thrilled to see the progress WG has made with Madam so far. I've so much more to say (as usual ), especially hi to Turnip and Yummy, but have a big fat headache so I'm going to bed and will do personals at the weekend. Love to all Mummies and babies xx

tillyfernackerpants · 03/10/2009 03:37

Have been lurking again like zj! wg I'm glad things are working out for you all. Madam is doing so well & so are you & dh

daisy huge sympathies on the waking ds. We have something similar atm, ds2 wakes up & then he can be awake for anything up to 3hrs (hence this 3.30am post!). And like your dh, mine will wake up in the morning & say 'I didn't hear anything last night, ds2 slept ok then'. Grrr

veggie how was your night out?

spot lol at your packing . Ds2 doesn't do the sitting up thing, but he used to be really restless rolling over & hitting the bars which would wake him up. Tucking his sleeping bag into the end of the mattress has helped!

yummy hiya, nice to have you join us

pmk how awful for your friends parents, glad they are ok but I do have a great image of the cat in my head.

njan I can't watch the news about the nursery either, its just too awful

lady am very impressed by O's skills! Obviously takes after you in the chatting department

trace am happy your job is going well but poor P. Hope she gets better soon [hugs]

Apart from ds2's sleep things aren't too bad here. I think ds1 is having a bit of a reaction to starting nursery school, been quite tearful & tired but he does seem to be loving it. He got Star of the Week this week, I was so proud . It was for being a good helper & always having a smile for everyone .

Kayzr · 03/10/2009 06:43

Morning,

WG I am so pleased for you!!! I hope last night was just as good!

Tilly That is brill about DS1's star!!

We have gone back to the old ways of DS2 waking up. I think we are going to have to stop giving him the water now as I think he is waking up for it.

notjustanumber · 03/10/2009 07:00

Tilly, Kayzr, crap night here too, but not as bad as yours. In the end, DS2 wakes at 5 so I play him a nice tune on the monitor for 5 mins, and he goes to sleep. 10 mins later he wakes up just when I am dozing off. So I retrive him and put him in bed for a feed. An hour later, when we are both dozing off, and I've managed to finally stop DH snoring, DS1 gets up and refuses to go back to sleep.

A funny thing happened the other day. I was upstairs and I could hear DS1 saying "I want mummy" and then DH saying "I'm here, what do you need" and DS1 repeating "No, I need MUMMY", and me thinking, ahh, he needs his mum. So i went downstairs and gave him a hug, and he said, wait for it, "Mummy, can I have some breakfast please ?". Dh was amusing concerned that DS1 didnt trust him to provide breakfast.

Veggie my man is crap at communicating important things. He came home last night and told me that one of his friends was gettng married. He told me this weeks ago but denies doing so. He can never remember anything important that is said in a phonecall !

Also, Veggie, anybody, do you know anything about milk intolerance (not lactose?). Something in milk seems to be upsetting DS1 and one of my friends was saying that its not just lactose they can have a problem with.

KiwiPanda · 03/10/2009 08:10

Morning all! I am lounging in bed while DH looks after DD, takes out the rubbish and makes me tea. Isn't he house-trained? Well, it is my birthday tomorrow so I intend to make the most of it...

Sorry for the bad nights last night, Tilly and Kayzr. Hope for a better sat night!

The I key on my blackberry is stuck and this is giving me RSI! Ow!

Oh LadyT I am in awe of your little one's talking skills. That is seriously impressive for 9 months, wow!

KiwiPanda · 03/10/2009 08:12

Oh and forgot to say hello and welcome yummy! I'm new(ish) here myself, it's a lovely thread. Just leave your shoes at the door, bring a cup of tea and don't feed the dog.

daisydora · 03/10/2009 09:32

Drumroll ladies....DS slept through . Bed at 6.50pm, heard him whimper at 6.45am! I cannot begin to describe how much better I feel. I know that tonight he will probably be back to his usual ways but hey ho. kayz, tilly, njan, sorry about the bad nights, what is wrong with these babies?? trace hope your night wasn't to bad and wg hope that madam is still being good for you.

Right off out for the day somewhere, not sure where yet but as DH and i are full of energy we intend to make the most of it!

Oh BTW DS has his first tooth (he's only 10 mths, and a week) could that be the reason for all the madness this week we'll see. All I know is I can't go through a week like this for the next 19 teeth.....

tillyfernackerpants · 03/10/2009 09:44

daisy am so pleased you had a good night . I think with ds2 it is his teeth, he's had 3 come through this morning

waitinggirl · 03/10/2009 10:04

daisy - yay yay yay!!! that is so exciting! i'm sure the tooth was the source of the trouble - surely!

madam took about 14 mins to get off to sleep, then grizzled at 9.15 and again at 5am, and woke at 6. really not bad. i promise i won't tell you all how often and how long she slept (unless things go pear-shaped again, that is).

i think you might all like to hear the following interchange between me and mil...
MIL: your toaster doesn't have a crumb tray
me: no, it doesn't
MIL: well ours does at home. [holding toaster in her hands and demonstrating] it's here on teh bottom. it catches the crumbs.
me: yes, i know
MIL: i always clean the crumb tray on saturdays at home.
me: oh.
MIL: well, i'll give it a wipe, then [disappears into kitchen]

scintillating, isn't it? oh, she is a poor thing, sad and lonely and stuck in her ways but my, does she annoy me. i had a mini meltdown on dh yesterday as i'd spent all day with mil, watching me with madam, taking madam off me, pannicking every time she cried and sticking her face in madam's (which isn't going to help anyone). dh would never have to spend the whole day with one of his in-laws breathing down his neck the entire time. and i miss my mum. but hey ho.

luckily mil's wonderful sister has arrived to help out as we go to this wedding today. mil is 62 and acts like she is 15 years older. her sister is 52 and looks, and acts like she is 10 years younger - it is quite incredible.

Turniphead1 · 03/10/2009 13:56

WG hooray for sleeping Madam ! That's brilliant. Would she go back to sleep at 6 do you think? I find L wakes at that time and might wimper and chat, but will go back off til 7.30 (very greedy I know..). Gosh your MiL sounds just like mine on the crumbs type chat. Sometimes you just want to grab them and say HOW DOES THIS MATTER!!?? Arrrgh. And I know what you mean about your DH not having to spend that kind of time. Can't you get some space from her? Anyway, hugs. It always makes me miss my oewn Mum too so I know totally how you feel. Enjoy the wedding pet.

Kayz sorry DS" is waking too. Hope you get it sorted. Daisy way hey - gab news. Those teeth can cause all sorts. Hope you get another good night tonight.

Hi ZJ Tilly( and NJAN and kiwi and welcome to yummy (I am an infrequent but "old" poster). Trace* you sound shattered pet. Can you get any extra rest? Know what everyone means about the smell. I was exactly the same when DD1 went to nursery. Even now I don't like it when DD2 has been held by someone with strong perfume! It's a mammal thing I guess - we still retain that thing that our young should smell like us. I actually like the smell of wet nappy. Warm pee makes me think of my three babies...I laughed at your comment about wet dog/damp baby hair. So true!

I am still in my PJs in bed! at nearly 2pm! Am "working" on a report but actually being lazy. Feeling a bit grim due to getting AF so am just going to slob all day and get my work done.

Good weekends to all!

Veggiemummy · 03/10/2009 14:06

Hooray Daisy a good nights sleep!!! It can happen!!! Teeth are evil buggers DS2 is getting the 2 at a time at the moment and they really mess him up.

Kiwi you made me giggle with you welcome to Yummy, though shame we haven't heard from her since.

WG your MIL is hilarious, my toaster has a crumb tray but it may as well not as I never empty it. Do you think her day maybe wasn't complete without emptying the tray. I can imagine her now gossiping with her equally obsessive friends '...and there toaster doesn't even have a crumb tray!' lots of tuts and 'oh what is the world coming too's and Im sure someone would have piped in 'but XX what on earth did you do on Saturday morning!, imagine not being able to empty the toaster tray on Saturday morning!'

NJAN you can be intolerant to lactose and milk in general, which means your body can't break the milk down properly with it's digestive enzymes etc so it causes bloating and lots of wind and can slow down digestion. Or you can be allergic to the milk proteins this often causes quite extreme and dangerous symptoms from a rash to respiratory distress. Generally with an allergy the reaction is increasingly worse with each exposure to the milk.
