Hi everyone. Thought it was time we have a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mogwai · 14/07/2005 19:59

hello Vicky's mum. Total respect for you!

mogwai · 14/07/2005 20:04

Lippy - I just clicked that our daughters arrived on the same day, both having been due on June 23rd. Still - at least you saw some of Live8! I missed out on Bono, apparently he was HOT HOT HOT in denim . I was hot hot hot in brushed cotton. Does that rate as equally glam??

Am I right in thinking we are both married to doctors as well? Spooky!

Hi Vicky! Wellcome aboard!

KVG, you could try putting her over the shoulder(My babies seem to like to really drape over the shoulder- butt at my chin level) and pat her back.
FWIW, I noticed Ds tend to spitt milk back when I "fold" his middle too soon after a feed.

Heat is suppose to be over soon... Good luck to all of us!

katzguk · 14/07/2005 21:40

evening all.

Jonah - glad DH loved the bath, my DH does too.

DD been a bit grumpy this pm but has now gone down.

i've found primark are great for tops and the best non visible breast pads are the lansinoh ones or the chicco ones

JonahB · 14/07/2005 21:59

Lua, that?s fantastic news about the GTT test. Does that mean that ice cream, cakes, puddings and chocolate are back on the menu now?

Hi Mummyvicky, lovely to have you join us!

Trib, sorry ? the bath thing was a bit cryptic. DS screams his head off every time I bathe him. Katz advised me to put him in the bath with DH, which, like you say, because he was submerged, seemed to work really well. It was also really nice for DH to have a little fab bonding time with DS. Thanks for your tips too. I also tried giving him half a feed before the bath, which also seems to work really well for nappy changes as well. I?ll also try the ?easing him in slowly? technique as well. You never know, he may actually start enjoying them soon

KVG, my DS is quite a sicky baby as well. The only thing that seems to work a little (and is quite obvious, so I?m sure you?re doing it already) is burping DS halfway through his feed as well as at the end. It seems to be when I don?t do this properly, that we both get covered in vomit. He hasn?t thrown up for a couple of days now, so I?m hoping I?ve cracked it.

teabelly · 14/07/2005 22:13

Hello all,

Welcome Vicky - wow what did you do wrong in a previous life to have 3 so young! Tell us abit more about yourself...are they all the same sex of do you have a mixture - are you a Southern Girl - fancy joining us for the meetup...? Hope to hear from you again soon.

Well at the great risk of angering my little jinx the omneo comfort is working so far, 2 out of 2 nights with no screaming - hurrah!

Re the weather and cooling down...bathing is good for them as it lowers body temp abit and is calming...always assuming they like baths!

Weight - well dd's growing at an alarming rate...6 13 born, and at 6 weeks exactly (today) she's now 10 8, a gain of 11oz in one week!!! Mind you ds was 7 3 born and at 4 weeks he was 11 4 so I guess it's in our genes.

Coop - so glad you're enjoying your trip Cooler over here - cheek - hope you realise this is our summer!! Rain for the weekend apparently and then that's it

Uh oh - better go dd's just woken up...will catch up more tomorrow... night, x

berolina · 14/07/2005 23:07

Hello mummyvicky!
KVG - burping - we do it either over shoulder (dh) or held upright against chest (me) - little or no rubbing. Usually works, sometimes straight away (he's been a real burper today!), sometimes takes forever.

Uki · 15/07/2005 00:48

Hi All

me again, i got a bit lost for a while didn't even know post natal pages existed. Have almost read 300 or so messages sounds like everyone is doing well apart from all the usual new born probs lack of sleep, occasional crying grizzly baby, etc. Anyone else just discovered ugly purple stretch marks, i only have just got them and i am thinking why now????
Sorry to hear of Bubbaloo's fall. We have slippery steep stairs and I am paranoid of falling. Although i have some socks with grip on them that make the trip a bit safer, my stairs are wooden, want to carpet them though. Are yours Bubb?

Off to have shower before bub wakes. (too late)
bye for now

LipstickMum · 15/07/2005 09:08

Morning all

I missed the glut of posts. Will catch up properly at lunchtime!! Caught a few things though...

I should maybe experiment with T.E. Although I have found that with all this drinking 3 litres of watrer a day to aid my milk supply my complexion is rivalling Halle Berry in the clearness stakes... well, sort of

Mog!! WE were due the same day, had dd's born on the same day and, yes, my dp is GP!! Ta raaaa!! Where are you? We might live 2 roads away

By the way, I heard from Charley, she is fine, having difficulty getting on line. Misses you all and sends loads of love!!

Welcome MummyVicky!!! xxx

Gotta feed babs before music...

PS WElcome back Cooooooooooooop!!!!!!

A bit more about me...Im a southerner- sort of! Im from Gloucestershire, My children are Ben nearly 4, Lily 16 months today, and Geoffrey 3 weeks today. Wow I can't believe only 3 weeks ago I was in agony, it seems like it was years ago already !!
Geoffrey is very sleepy with this heat, he's just wearing a nappy, and still feels very hot. The temperature is 27c and even with a desk fan in the room, isn't bringing it down.
Hope everyone elses little ones are coping- I'm hoping for a thunderstorm to clear the air- I can't bear it !!
Righty thats my 10 minutes on the computer up !!

Franniban · 15/07/2005 11:09

Hi girls,

Had a quick scan through and it looks like all is well with you and babies. This hot weather does take it's toll with the babies and us! Shouldn't complain though.
All's well here at the moment. We've had a few really bad nights with Esmee and collic, but have got her on gripe water and it certainly seems to have eased the situation, but don't want to jinks it!
DS is still being quite a hand full at the moment and is not too keen on his sister, but I guess it takes time.
Think that ds is coping better than dh at the moment, anyway!! Talk about grumpy old men, I've got about 4 in 1 here! Can hear lots of swearing from back garden at the moment, think the lawn mowar has packed up! Hey ho.
Must go, dd is calling. Take care everyone, xxx

LipstickMum · 15/07/2005 12:23

Hello again

I've actually made some notes

Mog, don't wory about your rings, it took a while for me last time, this time not so bad. Don't forget, your body spent the best part of a year changing to have a baby, it wont spring back to 'normal' in 2 weeks (no matter what Posh Spice says )

Coop, I am so with you on the buggy front!!! I walked into town yesterday. Big mistake! Dd2 was too hot and I couldn't put her anywhere when I took her out for a quick feed. Dd1 spent the whole time being distracted with food and wanted to get out when I was feeding dd2 it was terrible!! I saw a woman in the lift who had a double buggy, a MacLaren, with a toddler and a 3 month old. It seemed slimmer than usual and she said it was a godsend... I am buying one!!! I think the sling would work better in cooler weather maybe, but still have the 'not enough hands' problem.

KVG, my dd2 is windier than dd1. ALmost always has a burp after a feed. Not v sicky tho. I agree with Lua; try not to crunch up the tummy when u r burping baby.

Lynny, my dd1 plays up at exactly the same time as yours i.e whenI have to bfeed or tend to dd2. She's not quite as dramatic though !!! It breaks my heart. It seemsto be very common attention seekin behaviour.

Time for online shopping!!!

tribpot · 15/07/2005 12:41

I saw someone out and about here with a triple buggy not long ago. Good god. And she was pushing it uphill as well, the poor woman.

KVG, we find the over the shoulder possie is good for burping as well, dh has a nifty line in massaging the tummy on occasion too.

Lynny, great news about Jess' foot, and hope you manage okay with Leona, it must be a very strange time for her but very trying for you!

RHM, I'm hoping 3 weeks is too soon to worry about things like where ds sleeps, as he has taken against the moses basket completely. But I guess at some point I am going to have to deal with these things? Anyone know when? (18 years' time would be my preference)

I hope the first-timers are following my sister-in-law's example (as I am) and going to the pub every lunchtime?! Not quite, but it is the only place to sit down on our afternoon perambulation, so what can I do but go with the flow. My bro claims he made my sis-in-law go back to work because she was spending so much going out with the other new mums, getting lashed at lunchtime and then shopping in Baby Gap etc. Fortunately we have no shops in easy walking distance so no temptation in the shopping department at least.

Lua, congrats on the GTT test. We can get back to discussing chocolate now! (Although I guess we are meant to be being good again and not stuffing ourselves quite so much).

EYM, off to admire the pics of William at once

Cooperoo · 15/07/2005 13:07

Hello all
Baby asleep so I am jumping on here. We are off to a local farm park this afternoon with my friend and his gf who has a little girl dd1's age so should be fun I hope....as long as it doesn't rain.
DD2 seems to be much windier than dd1 too. She seems very uncomfortable in the evenings and just wants to feed for a comfort which then compounds the problem. I try to wind her by putting her on my shoulder and rubbing her back from bottom to top which kind of straightens the spine a bit to IYKWIM. This seems to help a bit. DD1 just used to do huge burps herself if I sat her up. DD1 did 6-8 poos a day though and dd2 does much less so their systems are obviously working in different ways!
Welcome Vicky. Glad you have joined us.
Lippy - It is a Maclaren that I want!!! My single Maclaren has been fantastic for having in the car for shopping etc and there is no way I will be taking our Silver Cross in the car. Check out Kiddicare.com. They have some good prices. DH seems under the impression that I will never go out without him and so we don't need a double and if we do we can get one when we are back in the UK in Jan. Grrrr.
Baby awake now for a feed so the one handed typing commences. My mum is finding this weather hot too and can't believe what I am putting the girls in to wear.... I am seriously worried how we will cope in Cyprus in Aug !! Phew.
Trib - I love the sound of a mini meet up but you are right that our days are fully booked sadly. I have had to schedule one in specifically for a bit of shopping or I would be missing out.
Lynny - I really admire you. It can't be easy with Leona to look after as well. DD2's trick has been to start taking all her clothes and nappy off too especially at bedtimes and we have had three poos in the bed at lunchtime nap times since dd2 was born and countless wet cots at night. She does tell us about them but knows full well if her nappy is off we can't leave her. Thankfully that has stopped now we are in the UK and it is a bit cooler for her. She is back in a lightweight grobag rather than just pj's and although she can take it off it is more effort for her and so she doesn't seem to bother. She also started saying wee wee and potty and toilet etc when we were busy with H as she knew that would have us running to her thinking she might want to train but she was trying it on and never did anything so we started ignoring her. When the HV did her initial visit all our questions were about dd1 and her behaviour and not about dd2 at all.
DH baths with both our girls nearly every night. DD1 loves this and we are lucky that dd2 doesn't seem bothered either way. We are very lucky that she seems to be one chilled out baby apart from the wind. She even went from 1130 to 4am to 6am to 8am last night. Spoilt or what.
How are those of you using cloth nappies getting on? I was terrible at not changing them quickly enough to begin with, (especially once we got over here as I didn't even know what time it was for the first few days they just seemed to fly by,) but we are getting there with them now although I have to say they are both in disposables at night. Two in nappies doesn't seem to mean more washing either....just a bit of a bigger load.
Anyway have to go as my lunch is ready. Oh it is fab to have my Mum around. Hope I haven't missed anything crucial...I didn't make notes.
Take care all.

Cooperoo · 15/07/2005 13:10

EYM - William is GORGEOUS!!!

LipstickMum · 15/07/2005 13:34

eastyorksmum · 15/07/2005 20:56

charleypops · 15/07/2005 21:38

Oh my goodness! I've been SO missing you all! I have been trying to post for days and days, start typing something then have to go do something baby-related and seems to take up the rest of the day! I've been trying to catch up on all the messages, at least since I last posted which was over a week ago now, but it's like painting the Fourth Bridge - I get through a few days' posts then get distracted, then get back a day later and there's millions of new ones..... I was determined to post properly today, (well, yesterday actually) but look at the time already I've started making notes, and will post probably tomorrow - Dp's been working away all week, (including nights [sad) but he's here now and will be for the weekend, so I will have more time. Don't give up on me!!!

Lots of love C

MrsWednesday · 15/07/2005 21:38

Blimey, things have got a bit busier on here in the last couple of days. Good to see a new face Mummyvicky - not sure how you manage to find time to get on the computer with three under four, things must be hectic round your house! You have my admiration - I'm struggling to cope with two at the minute.

Uki, EYM and Mogwai, good to see you on the other side. Has anyone heard from Scraggy recently? I 'saw' her on another thread yesterday, just wondered whether she knows this one exists?

Seems like a lot of us are having to endure attention-seeking behaviour - DS1 has been loads better today because I actually made an effort to spend time with him when DS2 is asleep. Lynny, it must be extra hard for you - I can't pretend to know what it's like for you but I hope you get some good advice from the special needs mums.

Also having the same clothes problem: they need to be loose enough to cover my saggy belly as well as extra-sized boobs. Actually, I'm still wearing maternity tops Can't wait to start back at the gym and get my body back to normal (never thought I'd say that about going back to the gym )

Well DS2 is asleep in his cot (in our room) at the moment but he doesn't usually stay there after his first night feed. I'm trying not to worry about it but in the middle of the night when he's in our bed, awake, grunting and snorting and won't go back to sleep, I start wondering what I'm doing wrong. Blimey, the early weeks are stressful aren't they?

KVG, I burp DS2 the same way as Lua described it and he's sick quite often too (managed to get it in my bra yesterday, which was nice). DS1 was a very sicky baby though so I'm sort of expecting DS2 to be the same.

Lynny, great news about Jessica's foot.

Trib, will you be moving up north soon?

I hope we all have a peaceful night tonight.

MrsWednesday · 15/07/2005 21:39

Cross-posted - good to see you Charleypops!

charleypops · 15/07/2005 21:45

Hi MrsW!

I'm still in maternity clothes! Been starving myself for the past week and only managed to lose a pound! - another stone and 6 pounds to go

Here's to a peaceful night too

MrsWednesday · 15/07/2005 21:48

DS2 is six weeks old on Sunday - Posh Spice was back in skinny jeans and crop tops by now, not slouching around in stained maternity outfits . And
