Inzi(((((HUGS)))))Everyone else has said it all... I'm so sorry for you and all your family. Whenever you need us we are here...I have been thinking of you and will continue to do so at this sad time...

Muppet; You have been a wonderful dog owner, you have done everything in your power, but as you say, your circumstances have changed and Stan obviously needs more than you can safely give him...you have made the right decision for you and for him, I'm sure he will find a good childless home as an only dog where he can get the intense/individual attention he obviously craves. It is understandable that you feel guilty and will be upset (you wouldn't be a good dog owner if you didn't) but it is the right decision. Couragio mon amie.

Hello ladies

Inzi - sorry to hear about your grandad, take each day as it comes it will get easier. It always seems worse at this time of year for some reason. My dad died on the 13th Jan 05 so I'm feeling it a bit too as it is coming up to that particular anniversary {HUGS}

Muppet - Re: your dog, fwiw I think you are doing the right thing, no matter how hard it seems. {HUGS} to you too.

Dal - 9 weeks to go, I can't believe it, where has the time gone??! I am excited for you

I'm not pushing the potty with Ben either and he isn't showing any more inclination so far. My plan is to leave it till Easter and then go for it as he will be two and a half then, which is the same time I started Sam and he took to it straight away. Fingers crossed that Ben is so easy.

Well it was Sam's first day at his new school today (albeit the nursery section) he is doing full school hours 5 days a week, but won't start reception class till September. He was so excited this morning and had dressed himself in his uniform by 7am :D
It has takenme 2 hours door to door though this morning to drop them both off, hoping I can halve that once the weather gets better and I have sorted out a quicker route.

I am sat here at the moment watching the snow coming down and wondering how long I leave it till I go and pick him up early. Although there was no snow near his school, we have it here and its a good 40 min journey so I don;t want to risk no being able to get there not sure what to do.

FloriaTosca · 05/01/2010 16:38

LLL; I hope you managed to get to school to pick Sam up in time. All the schools round here are closed due to the 12+inches of snow that fell overnight...the last lot of snow is a treacherous frozen skating rink underneath it all too so walking or driving is lethally hazardous (at least 2 fatal car crashes today due to the conditions on the M60 )How lovely that he was so excited..did you get tearful seeing him so grown up already?

Muppet; Have you taken Stan yet? How are you doing?

Inzi; Thinking of you honey.

Anyone on FB will already know my little incident of the day yesterday...I threw all the xmas goodies to the birds to stop me picking at them,I asked Alex if he wanted a mince pie before I chucked them but he said "no"...until the birds descended on the goodies at which he rushed over to the patio doors shouting "no birds! mine mince pies!"...wish I had had the video camera handy

Hi all, thanks for the reassurance re Stan. He's going on Friday. I am to take him in We are doing the right thing for us all it's just crap...

Dal - 9 weeks! That'll go fast!

LLL- 2 hours! Hope that tomorrow is easier. I've to battle to get Ollie to school as he goes back and the school is out of the way, up a track so I'm going to check the website first as they closed earlier in the year and we had less snow. (Though all hasn't fallen yet it's forcast 40cms tonight/tomorrow) Hen is supposed to be at nursery but that's over hill and dale. So as we now have 2 sledges (bought from my friends shop last week in anticipation of more snow) we may just spend the day sledging. Dh at home as he's said due to the weather he'll work from home.

love to all
xx

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 05/01/2010 20:35

LLL - hope that you managed to pick Sam up ok. The snow here is so bad - at least a foot. I was out with all the neighbours at 7am this morning shovelling snow off the driveways - until half an hour later when the one neighbour who goes to work really early (6:20) arrived back home with the news that he hadn't even made it to the motorway in over an hour (about 2 miles away) - so we all gave up then. I did do some work at home, although it took our IT consultants until lunchtime to get my remote access working - to be fair I've never used it before. Hopefully I'll be able to get to work by the end of the week as there's only so much I can do without the files in the office - not holding out much hope though - the snow's been falling all day (it caused a power cut this evening) and there's no thaw predicted over the next few days. Anya's not impressed - she doesn't like the sensation of sinking into the snow, so as she doesn't want to walk anywhere and we can't drive anywhere we're pretty much housebound. And my chocolate supplies are running dangerously low during pmt week .

Muppet - hugs to you for Friday. Glad you're enjoying the snow with the boys though and hope you get Ollie to school ok if it's open.

strawberrylace · 05/01/2010 20:50

sorry that so many of you are snowbound at the moment - hope all the choc supplies last! we haven't had any more here - yet... luckily dh has a 4-wheel drive, so he'll be able to get to work - i'd love an excuse to stay indoors...
not much to report here - DH & DS are flying an indoor helicopter together - they look so cute! Boys and their toys...
love to everyone

chocolatestar · 05/01/2010 20:58

Hope you are all ok in the snow! It's not too bad here so sadly I think I will make it to work tomorrow.

Inzi - thinking of you and your family. Take good care of yourself.

Dareh moved to his big bed today and I stopped feeding him at the same time. He was down to one night time feed and actually although he did ask he seemed ok with it. Might not be out of the woods yet but it is the beginning of the end. Feel quite emotional about it - end of an era!

ChocStar - hope Dareh enjoyed his big bed last night, and hope he continues to be ok with stopping feeding. Can understand why you're emotional - think you've done amazingly well doing it for so long.

Inzi - it's my emergency supply that's running low . Sorry you're struggling with ms - hope it gets better before too long. but at Jane's 'living in the stars' - what a wonderful thing for her to know. We'll all be thinking of you over the next few days.

FloriaTosca · 06/01/2010 19:37

Awww Inzi! You have made me cry again! That is lovely and heartbreaking at the same time... our nephew still points to a particular star and says "there's Drew!" who passed when he was 2. I did the music for my Dads funeral and still can't hear any one of the pieces without turning into a blubbering wreck, bravo to you for dancing to it!

Choc You have done so well a) for bfing this long and b) for managing to wean him off it at this age . I can well imagine it making you feel emotional bfing last thing before bed is often my favourite part of the day..doesn't look like we'll be stopping it soon as his lordship goes balistic if I refuse. I too can't believe you only have 9 weeks to go! I'm sure it was only 5 mins ago that you were having your 20wk scan! I hope you have a lovely relaxing last trimester.

It is a week for thinking of each other isn't it? Muppet I'll be thinking of you on Friday I know it will be tough. Inzi I will definately be thinking of you and all your family on Saturday, deep sympathy to you all. and LLL I will be thinking of your sad anniversary next week ((((hugs))))

Inzi - I have a lovely picture of you and Jane dancing to the music xxx
I really love the idea of Grandad being in the stars.
Henry said something the other day that really surprised me...
My grandad was supportive of me playing the 'cello but didn't really comment or understand what I did. The only time he ever passed comment on a piece of music was one Christmas when I had Faure's requiem on the cd player and he said 'what's this?' meaning the music and I said 'Faure's requiem' he sad 'It's a bit of good...'

The other day Henry was in the car and we were listening to music and he said 'What's this mummy?' and I said whatever the music was (radio 1 so some pop thing, I love crap pop I do!) and he said 'It's a bit good'.
Coincidence yes, but it stopped me in my tracks and made me wonder if a little of lost loved ones comes through into the next generation.

So much snow here you wouldn't believe. School not shut but wanting pupils to stay home. I think it's not shut as most of the teachers live on site but the support staff couldn't tackle the county roads to get to it. Hoping it's better tomorrow as Ollie is climbing the walls... (as am I!)

chocolatestar · 06/01/2010 22:25

The weird think is Floria I thought he would go mental too but he just hasn't. I did do it very slowly, feed by feed but I didn't think that last one would go without a fight. He didn't even ask tonight - I couldn't believe it. I would have just kept going if my periods had come back but still no sign. Still I am really happy with the way I weaned him, it was very slow - months in fact! So hopefully he wasn't distressed by it.

I am trying to have a health kick this month and have no alcohol but one day at school and I am desperate for a glass of wine - we shall see if I make it or not!

muppet that is a bit spooky! I do think children are really receptive to that sort of thing so who knows.

Inzi I hope you are feeling a bit brighter.

Been meaning to say - a couple of you are following me on my school facebook account. I don't mind but you will get weird up dates about what I am doing at work - just in case you wondered what that was all about! I do have another one as well for more day to day stuff.

I am up too late for someone who has to get up at six!

FloriaTosca · 07/01/2010 08:35

Mornin' ladies!

Just read through my last post... looks like I was commenting on how short a time choc has to go! ..don't quite know what happened to the new paragraph for Dal[confused emoticon].....sorry to both of you.

Muppet that was very eerie...I have to say I agree with Choc I think children are very open to "the other side".

Utterly beautiful scenery this morning..the snow on the hills reflecting the pink of the sky...unfortunately red sky in the morning shepherds warning...but creates a fairytale landscape.

Dalrymps · 07/01/2010 09:23

Morning ladies,

Inzi - Lovely about Jane saying he's in the stars and so nice that you 'felt' him whilst dancing with her

LLL - How did the school run go today?

WWAJC - You managed to stock up on chocolate yet or still snowed in?

Choc - Well done for getting Dareh in to his big bed. Great that the bf has come to a natural end without any upset, you've done so so well to keep it going for this long

Muppet - Thats quite uncanny that henry said that about the music, sure it's not a total coincidence

Floria - I got that that part of your post was for me! How is the snow where you are?

Well it keeps snowing on and off all through the day and night here! Woke this morning to the snow being even deeper! Can't see the road at all outside our house... I had a check up with the midwife this morning but when I rang to see if they were still running as normal they said they were but to just stay home unless I was feeling unwell. I get that they're trying to keep me safe but I was a little disappointed cause I quite enjoy my little check ups

Well it looks like another day indoors for us, the double buggy is supposed to be delivered at some point today but whether the delivery man can make it to the house remains to be seen...

Dh managed to get to work somehow, we have a volvo which isn't the best in the snow but so far it's managing. He had to spend ages getting all the snow off the car before he could actually set off. We nearly got stuck when we popped out to get dog food last night but made it back in one piece, if it snows much more we're bound to get stuck in it somewhere cause they're not good at gritting here at the best of times!

We're having a little problem with something Dylan keeps saying at the moment . I'm pretty certain he's trying to say something else but it sounds bad, the thing it sounds like he's saying hasn't some from us as we never use the word/phrase. It's embarassing anyway, especially when he shouts it in public. Anyway, he keeps saying something that sounds almost exactly like he's saying 'stupid nigger' dh is starting to think he's posessed or soemthing. I think he's trying to say something that we say to the dog cause I often shout at her to stop barking (she barks at anything and everything and makes us jump out of our skins, must be the yappy jack russel in her). Anyway, we've tried calmly saying 'no, don't say that it's not nice' even though he's not really saying that but he just says it more as he's getting a reaction I think. So, we're now trying ignoring it completely, he seems to say it when frustrated sometimes but also just randomly too I wish I knew what it was he was trying to say??!!!

Dalrymps · 07/01/2010 09:45

Just got a frantic phone call from dh to day his dad (fil) is waiting to be airlifted to wansbeck hospital (an hour away) as he collapsed whilst working with chest pains . They say the ecg doesn't show heart attack however... He's going to get his mum to take her to see him at where he's waiting to be airlifted so she can see him/ possibly go with him. The roads are closed to the hosp apparently... So worried, I hope he's ok. He's had pain in his arm for a few weeks but the doc said it was a degenerative disc in his spine causing nerve pain or something like that... he was supposed to take 6 weeks off work (is a plumber and heating engineer) but has still being doing jobs here and there. Am praying he's ok

Hopefully inzi, he also has a hernia he's waiting to be treated at the moment so it could be related to that too. He should be at the hosp by now, before they left with him they said again that they didn't think it was his heart so suppose thats good. Waititng to hear now, mil has to call for an update around 12...

strawberrylace · 07/01/2010 19:24

Dal - hope your FIL is ok

It is cold here, a bit of snow but not loads. Busy at work again with my emergency planning communications stuff. I am jealous of people on FB who keep talking about snow days! Even now I am at home I am checking my work emails - I need a life...

Right I must go and encourage DS to have a bath. Hope you are all ok xx

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 07/01/2010 19:59

Chocstar - well done for cutting out the alcohol. Hope your willpower gets the better of your cravings.

Dal - oh hun, hope your fil is ok and that it's nothing serious. Good news that they didn't think it was his heart.

I managed to get to work today and Anya went to my parents so things getting back to normal a bit, although snow is still deep on the ground. It took me several goes to get the car out of the car park at work this evening! Am looking forward to pizza and wine this evening, just need to persuade Anya that she's tired - she's doing a very good job of being wide awake at the moment.

Hi ladies,

We're not much further forward.. They've been running tests and have made him comfortable but are still not sure exactly what the problem is. He was having some back pain too last we heard and hadn't passed urine all day so they had to put a catheter (sp?) in, strange list of symptoms he has?! Just waiting for his bedside phone to be set up as they're having 'technical difficulties' with it , once they sort that we should be able to talk to him.

We can't get to the hosp still as it's snowed even more and it would take us 5 hrs to travel what would usually take 50mins... We went down to keep mil company this evening then came back to put Dylan to bed, only just made it, the snow is so deep on our bit of road it was rubbing on the bottom of the car . It's covering all the other roads too but is a bit more compact on main bits. More snow forcast for here tomorrow, I was enjoying it but now we need it to clear a bit so we can get down to see him.

FloriaTosca · 07/01/2010 23:08

dal; just a quickie as we are on night one of 'operation try to stop Alex bfing in the night' here...I hope they get your fil comfortable and get to the source of the matter...his symptoms do sound very like my mums when she had her first gall bladder attack;she got rushed to hospital from work with suspected heart attack, had been ignoring serious indigestion like pain for weeks and had excruciating pain in her chest and back.. turned out to be gall stones and pancreatitis (caused by 'sand' from the gall bladder) I hope your fil is as quickly cured as she was.

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 07/01/2010 23:13

Thanks Floria, hopefully it's something easily treatable/simple to fix like that. Will update when I have more news. Good luck with the bfing plan

muppetgirl · 08/01/2010 14:05

Hi all x

Dal - really sorry to hear of your Fil being ill, hope he's on the mend soon and you know what's wrong with him xx

Inzi - thinking of you xxx

Dh took Stan today. Ollie said goodbye and took him for a goodbye walk. I sobbed. 2 hrs later Dh came back with Stan...
They said he was too aggressive for them to take as he growled when someone came into the room where he, dh and the assistant was. She said that he exhibited 'Posession guarding' and that it would get worse in kennels, he would exhibit aggression towards any potential new owners and wouldn't ever get re-homed. They said if he'd been brought in as a stray they would have put him down.

He's been on a waiting list 4/5 weeks and I was honest about why we wanted to re-home him so they knew.

Now not sure what to do. Have been back in touch with our local animal rescue centre and they think they can help but not for 2 weeks so we'll see. I really don't want to put him down.

RSPCA weren't interested as soon as I explained that Stan was aggressive towards Henry they said they don't take aggressive dogs.

love to all
xx

Dalrymps · 08/01/2010 14:12

Hey ladies,

Fil having ct scan today, they think he could have some sort of infection but not sure what yet so still waiting... Managed to sort out his bedside phone so we can call him now though so dh and mil have spoken to him

He's in quite a lot of pain still though

Muppet - How ridiculous about Stan, they knew why you were taking him in, fancy messing you about like that . Hope you manage to get something sorted... Upsetting for you to have to say goodbye and then for him to be back again.
