Thought I'd start a new thread as as soon as evie pops we're bound to fill it hugely and some of us have phones to work with!

Jfly : new doggie barkout

And a happy birthday for yesterday you mid-life-crisis old bird you

right, I'm off to germany in a couple of hours, can't keep up while i'm away as my phone hates this site.

megonthemoon · 10/11/2009 19:50

I'm having my first irrationally pregnant strop this evening. DH had lunch with his parents today and found out that for Christmas they have bought DS a play oven. Not only did I want to be the one to get him one, but I was going to be ridiculously extravagant for our new home and get him a beautiful one from GLTC. Now I can't get him a kitchen (which I know will be his favourite Christmas present, and I want that accolade!) and worse the one they have bought him is plastic and from Argos and says "Let's fry an egg" in a tinny electronic voice when you open the oven door. Gah!

I know, I know. I'm being snobbish and ungrateful and I really should focus on the fact that he will enjoy it whatever and it has saved us stupid amounts of money. But gah! I knows argos isn't bad, and indeed I love argos ordinarily, but I wanted to be extravagant for once (I normally do charity shop toys) and my pregnant heart is now a little bit broken...

merryberry · 11/11/2009 06:47

i would laugh you off the face of the planet, but am currently living in pre-xmas dread of the threatened 'fun rug' for my boys bedroom from their grandparents. i do know where you're coming from. you ungrateful hussy

i find that plastic toys are excellent for playing outside over the long summer months. buy him a placcy barbie as the days lenghten and retire them both out there mid-year. 'for his special garden play place which he loves so much'. having bought him a wrap around nice indoors kitchen for birthday of course...

littleducks · 11/11/2009 08:06

merry speaks sense meg

I went for a tour of a prospective 'big school' for dd yesterday morning as i have to hand in the forms for primary school application at the end of the year, I cant believe my kids are so big In fact I have to fill in a form for ds to start preschool too

However it does seem that any childcare gets more complicated when they are at school, you no longer get to set the times/days you get told and have to find something to cover the breach for unexpected days off, am feeling like there is no end of me being an endless childcare source at this rate

Oh and to top it off dd has started the xmas topic at preschool there is to be a play and a party but not until Dec, so I have to teach her what not tomorrow but next month means

DH has been signed off week over two weeks now, it is killing me having him here interfering with things, he appears incapable of helping just seems to mess up all my routines and the kids mess around as they know its not just me here

How are all the babies talking? DS seems to have lots of words that appear at of nowhere (and sometimes disapear for ages again) but the cutest thing is when he cheers "Yaaaay" when food/choc/something good turns up, oh and i dont know if i should admit it but he can also say "chocolate" really clearly

megonthemoon · 11/11/2009 08:27

Yes, the garden option is a goer. The other option is a tasteful indoor wendy house as i can legitimately put it inside the wendy house (and out of my sight) so DS has somewhere to play house and cook tea for his teddies... If all else fails, it does foldaway so I can just hide it!

The upside is DH is incredibly amused by all my schemes for appearing very grateful whilst simultaneously working out how to politely hide it from view...

ilovegreenbeans · 11/11/2009 13:41

meg, I think there are many ways around this one and you'll do fine! This has happened to us before, not quite as severely, but I feel your pain (and I don't even think it's all pg related!).

I would love to get dd some cooking-related toys for Christmas, but 1) we don't have a lot of room and 2) we are thinking seriously about moving to Canada soon... like next year(!) and I need to start making sure we don't have tons of big things to ship/get rid of. Very scary!

Not much else new here. Hope everyone else is enjoying the grey!

megonthemoon · 11/11/2009 20:57

oooh, ilgb, canada! that's very exciting! whereabouts? DH lived in Vancouver when he was just my boyfriend so I know Vancouver a fair bit.

littleudkcs - any luck with teaching DD about next month? maybe start with the day after tomorrow and work up from there

i'm over the plastic oven incident, almost, as just been given a surprise bonus at work for some extra stuff i did over the summer (big companies rock sometimes!). it's nice to feel appreciated, and it's enough to pay for a very lovely meal out in london so i'm very happy!

anyone watching collision? nothing much else on tv at the moment, and as DH has got into it a bit i'm doing the honourable thing and sky plussing spooks so we can watch that instead at least there's chocolate cake to ease the pain of not seeing lucas north for another hour!

pantshavenames · 12/11/2009 09:24

Hello all, how are you? meg congrats on pg and commiserations on house stress. We put our house up for sale when I was 8 months pregnant with DD and moved when she was 3 months old which was fun...
We've had a hectic couple of weeks here, both DC had some kind of horrible bug that lasted about 6 days each so just as DS got better DD came down with it so a good 10 days of getting up 6 times a night and running around with vom bowls. I think it was better than them both having it at the same time but I'm not sure. Then last weekend had a weekend away with extended family for MIL 70th. DH told me on Monday he'd volunteered me to make a cake for 16 people! I nearly served up his head on a platter instead.
Yesterday night I got some bread in the bread machine on the timer but forgot to actually turn it on so had no bread for breakfast... DS turned to me and said 'oh Mummy you''re so forgetable'

megonthemoon · 13/11/2009 14:05

think i'm having a mc, sigh

bleeding and tummy ache since 7am. no cramping yet though. saw gp, have appt for scan on monday. he tried to get sooner but tbh if they see me while it's going on it will probably be inconclusive at this early stage in pg anyway so they'll want me to go back and there's nothing that anyone can actually do. if baby sticks it does, if it doesn't it doesn't. all up the baby and my body now i guess.

sigh.

DS distressed to see us both upset this morning and me not picking him up etc., which was very upsetting for me, but DH just took over. i'm very grateful for having a good 'un .

meant to be at best school friend's wedding tomorrow and i've had to tell her i'm unlikely to make it

ilovegreenbeans · 13/11/2009 14:46

oh meg, so sorry to hear- big hugs and hoping for some good news on Monday.

littleducks · 13/11/2009 14:49

oh meg, im sorry.

merryberry · 13/11/2009 16:11

i'll be thinking of you this weekend meg, wishing you a calm time until you know

Oh Meg - so so sorry. Thoughts are with you for Monday.

Dontpanic · 13/11/2009 22:37

Meg Hope you're all ok

Ewe · 14/11/2009 08:22

Oh meg, so sorry to read this

megonthemoon · 14/11/2009 09:25

hello. thank you all for your support

it is a definite mc, as was passing clots last night but fortunately i don't have too much pain. poor ds very upset and screaming at bedtime which is really unlike him - clearly very distressed by seeing us so upset earlier in the day but all three of us are doing much better for a reasonable night's sleep.

As I just posted on another thread, DH is very emotional but I'm still just focused on the physical side of things for now and think the real emotion will come later for me.

But we're okay, and tbh i'm just glad that if it was going to happen it was early on. my poor sil had ok scan at 12 weeks and lost baby at 14 weeks, and i can't imagine the pain of that. got to be thankful for small mercies at times like this.

anyway, i don't want to bring the board down any more. carry on as you were, will cheer me up, the sillier the stories the better please

meg xx

Ewe · 14/11/2009 10:34

You sound like you're being really brave and strong meg, hope you're all feeling much better soon. I think all you can do is be really kind to yourselves and take the time you need to process it and support each other.

Not sure any of my news is interesting and I can't think of any silly stories but will do a dull update

I am trying to read Capital by Marx this morning and DD keeps taking the pages and putting them in the bin I think I should take the hint and give up!

Weather is very very grim here, going to the hairdressers this afternoon and just called to cancel the blow-dry as seems little point. Have a big party to go tonight with about 50 people who I went to school with so feels a bit like going to a reunion so a little bit nervous and worrying about what to wear!

Hope you're all having a nice weekend. Those of you who are attending the MN Xmas party, are you meeting up beforehand?

FfreckleFface · 14/11/2009 15:30

Meg, I'm so sorry. Thinking of you.

Much silliness to report here, most of it mine. Had friends around last night, and ended up conking out on sofa at about 3.30 battered exhausted. Woke up freezing at 6.45, and was creeping up the stairs when Ff started barking out her morning greeting. (that's right, barking. She is completely feral - it's almost like I put her in the dog basket at three days old and let them raise her). So I didn't get to bed, and have been practising a less-than-enthusiastic parenting style all day.

Ff got her first proper fry up as a result of our hangovers. Bless her, sat in her high chair in her vest and jeans with egg down her front...like a proper little builder. She even ate the tiny sliver of black pudding we gave her.

Ewe, I feel your pain. I should be Reading about freedom of trade in the EU right now. Ff's favourite trick is colouring in my lecture notes. How is your course going?

Grim grim weather, but lots of puddle jumping opportunities, so Ff is thrilled.

JFly · 15/11/2009 22:34

Hadn't realised how long it'd been since I'd lurked! And now we have baby Turtle! That is such good news.

Very sad for you, however, Meg. I had an early mc with my first pg but then quickly got pg with G. I can't speak for you, of course, but I was very sad at the time but it faded once I was pg again and got further along. Many hugs for you and DH. I hope that you feel better soon.

Back to lurking!

ilovegreenbeans · 15/11/2009 22:36

Congratulations to turtle who welcomed a new baby boy into the world today! I'll let her fill in the details, but was too excited not to post anything!!
