Jammy, welcome back lovely. When are you testing? It sounds AMAZING and to that end, AM to while away your final hours/days of pregnancy, a challenge...

I really want to go to NYC. I have about £2.50. So far a few days' break in NYC just me and DH, staying in a rat infested hostel in bunkbeds costs about 8 million pounds. How on earth do you make it cheaper oh knower of holidays?

elkiedee · 09/09/2009 13:21

Glad you had a good time Jam, wow at the having to test though. Hope you get the result that you want.

Conor and I are just back from his first go in a swimming pool. He seemed to enjoy it though the water was rather on the chilly side. We're off out again and have lots to do first, but the milk monster is hungry so I'm feeding him and looking at Mumsnet.

AprilMeadow · 09/09/2009 13:22

Well you could make a raft and sail to the states. Pitch a tent in one of NYC parks and live on bagels for the time you are there..

AprilMeadow · 09/09/2009 13:32

when are you looking at going?

ShowOfHands · 09/09/2009 13:45

I can make rafts. Sounds good.

Next year. Whenever's cheap. I can stretch to £3.50 maybe.

ShowOfHands · 09/09/2009 13:51

Why do I have 57 pairs of knickers?

AprilMeadow · 09/09/2009 14:25

Dh thinks its 'cheaper' to go in Oct/Nov. But i guess it depends on a) where you fly from/to b) when you go and c) how long you go for.

Have you looked on our site?

JamInMyWellies · 09/09/2009 14:36

SOH, I have always found January February is a good time to go flight price wise as BA & Virgin tend to do flight sales after Christmas. Heathrow although miles away is your best bet on the best fares as thats where most of the NY flights go from. NOw for accomodation there are a few places I know of which are pretty central and cheap they wont be swanky but will be clean and comfortable.

You could always go around 22nd October next yr.

ShowOfHands · 09/09/2009 17:57

22nd October sounds great.

Yes AM, looked at your site and about passed out at just the flight prices. Ballpark, what's a reasonable price to fly to NYC, two of us, from Heathrow?

ShowOfHands · 09/09/2009 18:32

Oh Lord above, dh is training to be in the farking riot police, you know, in case the cows revolt. He's brought his kit home with him and it's like having the farking terminator over for dinner. M is overjoyed that dh is a 'robot' and I'm concerned that the added bulk means he has no spatial awareness and he keeps bumping into things. Just imagine a drunk terminator really, bumbling about in Norfolk apologising for knocking over small children.

Themasterandmargaritas · 09/09/2009 19:47

Photo purlease.

charleymouse · 09/09/2009 23:30

You do know SOH that cows are killers don't you? Lethal they are; lethal I tell you. You have to watch them you know, Cars and pollution in a nice built up area that is the way to go. . Do you know yet when you are heading up Norf?

Jam of your trip ooh would make a nice trip to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on the 28th. Will get saving Bump progressing quite nicely MW apt yesterday. Just panicking now though that I am huge and starting to imagine polyhydramnios again so may ask for another scan to put my mind at rest. Today I have been asked if I am expecting: twins , an elephant , or if I am due next week. Apple martinis sound scrummy.

MJB glad J is settling in. Toilet training progressing here, put G in pants today and he had a couple of accidents but no poos, he usually poos in the potty but trained with no pants on over the summer and now I think he thinks if he has something on it is ok to wee. May have errored here me thinks.

LG&T glad you got hold of NPFS and sorry you are having a hard time with DDs treatment. Hopefully you will have DH home soon. Good luck tomorrow, remember the judge is no better than you and has to poo out the same hole as all of us and wipe his/her own bottom. Helps me feel less daunted about poeple in authority if I think they have to dump just like the rest of us.

TMAM do you want me to post you DHs "how to look after your knees" book (not correct title.) He had ITBS and had physio. He also suggests a foam roller from a physio supplier. Also try stretching exercises. He is currently demonstrating a stretch which goes like this -
cross your legs whilst standing with the affected knee at the back and put all your weight onto the affected leg and push out your hip of the affected leg to the outside. He says a shitload of stretches before and after running. Trust him he's a doctor.

AM good luck for Js first day at school, have to keep up with that getting jiggy, "Gonna jig that baby out right out of that womb." Come on sing along. Sending labour vibes, have you got them yet?

SKY good luck with the CM course. It sounds quite exciting I looked into it briefly last year but decided against the responsibility.

Tills I have a slightly strained relationship with my mother also and try to over compensate with DD. I'm sorry you ever feel like you are the wrong twin. That is so wrong and something I am trying to make sure I never ever convey to G. I know your Mum was in a dark place though but no excuse for her treatment of you. G is starting to ask about B as he is talking about babies in Mummys tummy. Hope T had a good time at nursery.

PJ hope you are not overdosing on the Gaviscon. There is no alcohol in it I don't think, try mouthwash Have we set a date with Tills for our mini meet yet?

Elkie G has a little wetsuit from the ELC which he still wears when we go swimming as he tends to go blue around the mouth if not wearing it.

Abby hope the little monsters dears are behaving for you, soon be half term.

Scoot, hope you are having a good holiday.

12YG have seen you on other threads please do return we miss you.

Hope you are all okay, night night the fat biffa CM.

largeginandtonic · 09/09/2009 23:36

Ta ladies for the support today

OP posts:
charleymouse · 10/09/2009 07:16

Morning all, does anyone have matchsticks for my eyes. I stopped up too late tidying Mumsnetting. Now discovering the joys of having got DS down early last night.

Don't have to leave for school run until 8:30.

Hope all goes well G&T.

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/09/2009 08:34

Thinking of you today Gin xxx

CM - we were considering w/e of 31st October for mini meet ? Is that any good for you ? Any preference on the Saturday/Sunday ? We might need to reconsider the venue as the one in Cheshire is a 2 for 1 deal and if there are definitely going to be just the 3 of us, then it obviously won't work. There are plenty around though so I'm sure we can sort something out.

Try not to worry about size - I am huge as well and have been asked similar questions. I'm sure you'd be able to get another scan to put your mind at rest though. I've got one at 37 weeks to check the growth (because Til was quite big and boys/seconds babies can be larger). Apparently if its looking like more than 5 kilos (10lb 10oz ), then they'll induce early

SOH - lol at dh.

Jammy - did you test ??

Tils slept til 8 this morning - clearly worn out at nursery yesterday. She got a sticker for helping out and cuddling/playing with the children who were upset

JamInMyWellies · 10/09/2009 09:08

Thinking of you today LG&T.

No have not tested yet will buy one later and doesnt matter anyway as DP is knobber and the wedding is orf I tell you. Twonk throw a wobbler last night that his dinner wasnt ready. Didnt realise we lived in the 1950's [grrr]

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/09/2009 09:15

lol - I hope you threw it at him I swear you have your best arguments in the run up to a wedding. I think its just some way of making sure you're doing the right thing You have to get married now - everyone wants to go to New York !

ShowOfHands · 10/09/2009 09:15

Oh but we do live in the 50s Jammy. And the war has stripped us of all readily available decent foods and it's such a shame that there's only faggot soup for dinner but there's a recession on and he can man up and eat it. Well, if we're playing the game.

MmeJaffaB · 10/09/2009 09:17

Good luck today Gin! xx

CM, It's an easy mistaka to makea, the nappy to nothing! They need to understand what it feels like to go from nappy to pants and feel wet/soiled pants etc.... wearing nothing doesn't sadly achieve this but it won't take long for him to get the idea now. Good Luck

Jam your trip sounded just fabulous, preggo well, did you test?

AM at Ella's french lessons, so cute!

Thank you for asking after J yesterday, there is no school on a Wednesday.

No tears today though, woo hoo! H is ill, he was sick at 5am and is complaining of sore troat, headache, tummy ache etc......

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/09/2009 09:21

MrsJB - whilst you are here - we are thinking of starting potty training when back from hols... We have potties around the house and Tils sits on them (and climbs on them and puts them on her head ). Do we just go cold turkey when back from hols and start her wearing pants and get her to sit on the potty every so often until she goes (then give stickers and loads of praise etc.) ?

MmeJaffaB · 10/09/2009 09:22

sorry x-posts Jam, lol at twonk and faggot soup!!! I quite like foggots actually, haven't had them for years!

I coreographed a line dance yesterday afternoon to Taylor Swifts Love Story. It wa the first time I'd done any coreography. I showed it to Sylvie last night, she was very impressed, said it was an intermediate/Adv dance and that she'd like to learn it and asked if she could teach it to the intermediate classes this year!

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/09/2009 09:27

Faggots are yummy - we often have faggots, chips and mushy peas

MmeJaffaB · 10/09/2009 09:31

Absoultely Tils, it's the easiest and quickest way. It's all about consistency, nappies must become only associated for bed! Remember that it is all about you for the first 4-5 days, she is not potty training you are iykwim. After 4-5 days of cosistent pants, potty, toilet, accidents and achievements she'll get the idea and she'll start realising to ask you when she needs to go.
The morning is always a really good way of getting them to do a wee in the right place and to be able to give them loads of praise. As soon as you hear her wake get her up, nappy off and on to the loo or potty, she'll probably do a wee no problems then but it will start the day off well. Try to get to her before she does her morning wee in her nappy is the idea.

AprilMeadow · 10/09/2009 09:42

Hope all goes well for you today LG&T, will be thinking of you xxx

Faggots, yuk, yuk, yuk!! You bunch of weirdos!

MrsJB, you'll be on the panel of Dancing with the Stars before long . Glad J went in ok today and th at H is poorly, i hope he feels better soon xx

Am feeling very for myself today (and yesterday pm). Everyone in RL that was pg and due at the same time has now had their baby/babies. I get a real pang of when i see a fb announcement/pics etc. Not so much the ones who have gone over due but those that have had them early. I guess its just payback for Ella arriving when she did. Anyway, thats my little moan for today. I do keep reminding myself that she isnt due til next week anyway, but it doesnt seem to help!

Had a very productive day yesterday, made loads of calls that i had been putting off, arranged for things to be fixed/fitted etc etc even managed to squeeze in a facial.

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/09/2009 09:43

Thanks If after 4-5 days, she's showing no signs of getting it, then do we stop and try again another time ?? I'm not convinced she's ready but I would like to get it sorted well before new baby arrives if possible.

Really not looking forward to it, but nursery said they thought she was ready when I picked her up yesterday (on her first day I hope they're not going to be pushy about it)

I'm assuming a nappy is ok at nap time ? What about in the car ? Obviously, we'll be trying to hand around the house as much as possible for the first few days, but we might need the odd journey out

Sorry for all the questions !
