We're growing broad beans in a pot (old water tank) on a patio too. And Lakeland do some great bag style pots for growing veg too, which you can move around if you need/want to.

Had a rubbish night last night, and a very busy day today at the in-laws golden wedding anniversary party, so utterly knackered now, to the extent that I'm struggling to focus on anything. Ds slept for less than half an hour all day, so was also knackered by bedtime, but didn't take a huge feed due to being so tired, so will prob wake for more in another couple of hours.

Sorry that you are feeling so low MM. Totally understandable though.

MM- I completely missed your post from last night. So for you. Not surprised you're feeling so awful.

aubergenie · 30/08/2009 12:30

Oh dear, have I killed the thread?

I was thinking about you and your expensive broad beans the other day CSWS. Have you got a bumper crop?

star6 · 30/08/2009 19:17

I'm here aubergenie. Q has been asleep for about a half hour. Bank Holiday weekend - Hooray!! We're thinking about visiting Winchester tomorrow (all the medieval stuff dh wants to see) or going to Hever Castle or the seaside.... but will the traffic be too much? Should we just hang with friends nearby?

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/08/2009 19:47

Ooh star - you could come and visit me!

Looks like it's just you and me Star! Stan not asleep yet, but he's perfectly happy rattling around in his cot (nearly wrote "cage" there...), at least for the time being.

It's meant to be a nice day tomorrow, so a trip to Winchester would be lovely. I think the traffic could be pretty bad though as so many people are having "staycations" this year, so probably going on little trips out.

Ooh, it's gone very quiet in there. I wonder if I dare stick my head round the door...

star6 · 30/08/2009 19:55

Would love to csws but DH wants a relaxing day together - he'd be willing ot hang with people we know but a "new" situation for him I can see him resisting. He doesn't like going to meet new people (but ALWAYS has fun once he's there!). I think his heart is set on winchester - but he's looking at traffic predictions now...

star6 · 30/08/2009 19:57

I always just know when it's quiet that he's sleeping at wait AT LEAST 15 minutes after the silence to go in... he might wake otherwise!

50ftQueenie · 30/08/2009 19:57

Had a busy day with lots of friends round for a BBQ (in not very nice weather!) to celebrate both dc's birthdays. It is sort of the mid-point between the two so seemed like a good idea. M has enjoyed being centre of attention and ds has enjoyed being a noisy monster with his mates! Two friends bought their gorgeous baby boys with them. Both are coming up 5 months and are totally adorable and so teeny. Just delicious! DH had a terrible time last night as he had four 6 year-old boys round for a sleep over for DS's birthday (I was at my mums). One had a mobile phone ffs!

star6 · 30/08/2009 20:01

50ft I'd give my child a mobile phone if he was going on a sleepover at a friends' house... I know it sounds silly. I wouldn't let him "wear it" on him, but just in case of emergency. I don't trust anyone. Well, very few.

Q just walks around - I'm still not used to it... he just gets up and walks whenever he wants to. It's totally bizarre!!

MM- Very wise to go to your mum's while that was going on!

It is slightly ridiculous sending a six year old with a mobile. Surely they could ring your land line if they needed to get hold of him.

I'm a paranoid mom. my poor kid will probably be in a bubble suit with flashers and a beeper when he's able to go to a friend's house on his own...

star6 · 30/08/2009 20:25

Sorry about your lump, myjob. Where on your neck is it? is it near your ears/throat or on the back? Did you do anything or eat anything our of ordinary today? (I'm not a gp or won't even know what to do with the answers to these questions... just think they're good to consider ).

pistachio - nothing??? nooooo.

aubergenie · 30/08/2009 20:28

Oh yes, I forgot to say, S discovered the delights of In the Night Garden the other day. Dp put him in front of it when we were unpacking from our trip and he was nearly hyperventilating with excitement. The narrator said "wave to the pontypines" and S was waving like mad and screaming with joy.

aubergenie · 30/08/2009 20:30

Star

Ouch, that sounds nasty Myjob. Like pistachio says, it sounds like a swollen gland. Does it hurt?

50ftQueenie · 30/08/2009 20:34

Myjob - I am trying not to think about things too much as there is nothing I can do about it at the moment! DH is very tired but ds is very grateful (after we pointed out how lucky he is). I am pretty convinced that the lump is a glad (as was Ronshar so it MUST be ). They normally swell up when you're under the weather and feel tender. Does that sound about right?

Aubergenie - The most irritating thing was that he kept throwing wobblers about nothing, calling his dad and asking to be picked up. the other boys were good as gold but if he didn't get his own way ALL the time he would strop off and say he was getting his dad to come and get him. I think it was incredibly rude to send him round with a mobile phone. His mum knows us well enough to know we'd call them if anything was wrong. M LOVES in the Night Garden but she loves the Tombliboos. She gets soooooo excited when they're on. She loves the Cbeebies yellow blobs more though......

Star - I suggest that when Q is old enough to be invited on sleep overs that you should just refuse to let him go unless you are 100% certain that you can trust the other parents. Giving him a mobile phone will just give him a weapon to undermine the other parents which is not on. There is one kid at school I would never let ds have a sleep over at as I don't think the poor little boy is treated very well. Oh and my boobs turned into snooker balls in sock but I lost a lot of weight after I stopped bfing which is probably why. A friend of mine was so p*ed off her boobs once she stopped feeding that she was considering a boob job, however a year on they do seem to have plumped back up!
