Sounds interesting Jenwa, but a few HOURS? What will they be doing? Sending in a miniaturised team of doctors? Your dd1 would have to be in charge of the DC, DS would probably wander off and get lost. I am having a CT scan and today had another tumour marker blood test. It is one that checks for pancreatic and bowel cancer. Consultant is pretty certain it will be negative and I will be seeing him again in three months.

Ok Hmm. I think I have a box big enough for ds to fit into, the postage is going to be a nightmare though.

aubergenie · 28/08/2009 08:13

Good luck with your hospital appointments Jenwa and 50ft. I've had a CT scan before 50ft and, although it's not very nice going into the machine, it doesn't last too long. Even when they say it'll probably be fine, it's unsettling until you know for sure, isn't it.

I think I took the wrong baby home from Bumps and Babies yesterday. S went to bed as usual at 7.30, no problems. He then slept until.......2.30am. I gave him a feed. He went straight back into his cot intil about 5.30. I fed him again and he slept until 7.40! He has never done anything remotely like that. This is a child who normally wakes every couple of hours. Dp and I kept getting out of bed to check him because he was being so quiet. I've got no idea what happened, but I do know that if he could keep that up, my life would be very, very different.

KSal · 28/08/2009 08:54

MM, i'm sending you as many positive vibes as i can over the ether. Must have been such a shock to hear, but glad you have made the decision to get a second opinion as that will really help give you more confidence to make any decisions you need to.

Star, so sorry to hear the story about your mum .

CSWS i hope you can sort things out with your mum if that's what you decide. Maybe her news is what made the weekend so hard in the first place.

Yay for sleep aubergenie!

aubergenie · 28/08/2009 09:46

KSal - Sorry I didn't respond to your post the other day. We were doing BLW with S but it kind of went out of the window camping as he was just getting mouthfuls of sand/soil etc, but we're getting back to it again now. I would love to get your recipe for salmon and sweet potato fish cakes if/when you get time. Sounds really nice and S needs to eat more fish, I think.

I tried giving Q tuna (tried to be a LITTLE lenient on my vegetarian lifestyle for him...) but he doesn't seem to like it (I don't like it, either, so not surprised). I'll try it 10 more times though... has anyone else ever heard taht? it takes 12 tries to get used to a taste? So you should try things 12 times!

Congrats aubergenie on the good night of sleep!! Hooray!
Yay for N's teeth myjob

50ftQueenie · 28/08/2009 11:37

M and I have horrible colds at the moment. Mine wasn't too bad yesterday but overnight I have turned into a zombie! We took M to the hospital with us yesterday (DH comes with me to every dr's appointment I ever have) and was doing her barking seal cough (it's not croup, just a barking cough). The looks of horror we received. People were audibly muttering about swine flu! Swine bloody flu, she was trying to crawl up the slide! Does that sound like a baby who is sick with flu?! Idiots!

Aubergenie - Yay for sleep! For about a second I thought you were serious about taking another baby home. I thought damn, she must have been tired. Doh! I am not looking forward to having a CT scan as I am claustrophobic! Yay!

Myjob - It's probably a relief once the first bit actually breaks through. I am amazed at how quickly they push through. My wisdom teeth are still grumbling, 12 years on! M's party dress (the red one) arrived today. It's lovely but dh was a bit at the price! Oh well, she'll only be one once. DS has decided what he wants to get his sister so that's one thing sorted. Just the rest of it work out now. I am going to make her the birthday cake from that fabulous book.

Star - I have such non-fussy children that I don't normally have to try them on things, they just eat them. Except egg, which they both seem to hate. I'm pretty certain that it wouldn't take 12 tries to get any child to eat cake!

Myjob - DH doesn't come to my smear appointments though. That would be too much! You'll enjoy your N's Ittis, they're so lovely and soft. I am quite interested in these cow print ones. They are kind of like the Tots Bots though and I threw my one of those away as it was rubbish. I also don;t understand why everyone raves about Blueberry pocket nappies. They are huge and really leaky.

KSal · 28/08/2009 12:57

ooh my first recipe post!

sweet potato steamed and mashed (I used just over half of one)
two spring onions chopped quite small
~70g salmon
squeeze of lemon
knob of butter
beaten egg
plain flour
breadcrumbs (I used crushed up cornflakes)

cook the salmon with the lemon and butter (either in the oven in foil or a couple of minutes in the microwave) then flake and let it cool off.
Mix together mashed sweet potato, spring onions and salmon (you can also add a bit of mayo and ketchup if you fancy but i didn't bother because the sweet potato seems to hold it all together nicely).
roll into little balls about 1.5 - 2 inches across. Finally roll in the flour, then egg then breadcrumbs (very sticky process) before frying til golden! (don't know if grilling would work)

this is actually an adaptation of an AK recipe... me and DH had this for tea last night with roast tomatoes, peppers and couscous its blardy lovely!!

DH is very keen on Emma eating fish... brain food and all that.

Sorry, just a quick post on the way to make tea for the kids, MM, I'm really sorry to hear about your appt. I hope that the second opinion is of use and helps clarify things a bit. CSWS, sorry about your mum and also how your relationship is going at the moment.

Star - have you tried salmon for Q? Neither of my two like tuna, but salmon is a big hit, I think its a sort of 'sweeter' taste IYSWIM? KSal's salmon fishcakes sound great and you can also pack them with other veg too (broccoli was a favourite to 'hide' in there when dd was going through her no veg stage!)

Just back from a trip to London to go out for lunch with someone I used to work with. Great day, if a little tiring, so I'm off to grab a cup of tea while the kids eat

ronshar · 28/08/2009 20:58

CSWS, that is horrid for your mum and your family. Your mums hormones must be all over the place but still no excuse for that behaviour though.

50ft. Now I definately will not try to tell you what to do as this could be the beginning of a hard time for you all. However do think very very carefully about fitting in a third child as pregnancy hormones can speed up the development of cancer cells. I am not saying that to scare you. It doesnt happen to everyone. You have a perfect family already.

Star it is hard losing your muumy so young. But you are a fab mummy so your muumy would be very proud.

Aubergenie, W is still a crap sleeper. I have stopped feeding at night. He got used to it after a few nights. Still wakes up though.

Pistachio, how are you feeling?

Berti, well done for getting some help. I think that is often the hardest part.

Hmm I hope your young lady went to bed better tonight?

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/08/2009 21:12

Jenwa - mum had the biopsy when we were up there, and was going back for the results on Tuesday morning.
She has always been prone to flying off the handle about nothing though (usually directed at me). Scratching is new though - her ammo used to be strangling.

Hi all- I'm back had a lovely time in Dorset and we were quite lucky with the weather. J loved having all the attention of my family, particulary his silly uncles. He's now having lots of tantrummy screaming fits if he is told no though which I'm not too pleased about.

Drove back with my bro today, took about 5 hours so am shattered. Also had a minor crash on the M3. Some woman went into the back of me in slow moving traffic. Luckily we were all ok and she was, her car was pretty bashed up but amazingly mine is fine. Was pretty shaken up and felt sick at the thought that it could have been worse and J was in the back Thankfully my bro who is only 22 was very calm and sensible and sorted it all out as I was a shaking wreck.

Not managed to remember everything I read but obv 50ft's news- so sorry to hear that, it must have been a horrible shock. If you need more clarification could you ring the consultant to ask before your next appt? Really sorry to hear about your Mum too CSWS it's awful news to get but particulary with her making things so difficult between you.

Had a look at the Warwick pics, looked lovely. Star- well done to Q for walking

50ftQueenie · 28/08/2009 21:51

Not feeling very happy tonight so I won't be around. I think it's all sinking in now. Feeling very sorry for myself. Thank you all for your good wishes.

I'm here Myjob, so you're not talking to yourself any more. Glad your washer's alright again. Sounds like a frustrating day!

Rachie - glad you're all ok after the bump.

KSal - thanks for the recipe. I'm definitely going to try it out this week. We're in a horrible food rut at the moment, which is very unlike me and makes me very fed up. I normally love cooking, but I'm just too tired to think of things to cook at the moment. Disappointingly the great sleep thing wasn't repeated last night. I've got my fingers crossed for a better night tonight.

I've been digging up my precious vegetable patch over the last couple of days. We've decided to lay some turf down so that S has got somewhere to play outside (the rest of the garden is paved). Also, we are hoping to move somewhere with more than one bedroom next year and it makes sense to have a sightly more conventional garden setup if we sell or rent the flat out. It was my idea, but am a bit gutted though.

RachieW · 29/08/2009 20:14

Myjob- Sorry to hear about your day, that kind of day is the type to drive me to the edge. Phew for the washing machine working again. Did N eat dinner? J has days of eating very little and then others of eating loads, it is frustrating and worrying though at the time. Hope you have a better evening

Aubergenie- Forgot to say hi to you in my last post. Did you have a good hol? Sorry to hear that sleeping isn't great. We had a terrible night last night, J awake every hour, but I think he's getting more teeth. Glad to hear you are excited about work. I go back on Thurs and today am feeling a bit excited but guilty for feeling so. I am sure my mood will get as it gets closer! for your veggie patch too. Ours is coming to an end, I just dug out my potato bags today and am v. disappointed as I only got about 25-30 for 3 bags. Still it's the first year I've tried them so maybe better next year. You could always try them too, I put them on a patio and previously I've grown runner beans in grow bags leaning against a wall, tomatoes in pots etc. See your veggie growing days aren't over, especially if your next place has a big garden
