Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

ds eats what we have too - it makes us eat a little more healthily. Tho we still eat crisps and chocolate when he goes to bed!
Dh has found out that he can give ds his brocoli and and ds will woof it up.
ds seems to eat an awful lot of fruit and veg and bread and cheese - but not much protein really - I presume his bottle of formula at night will compensate for now?

LucyJones · 15/06/2005 09:34

I think you're probably right TracyK - my ds is the same. Sometimes when I give him chicken and veg he prefers the veg and potato bit but I try not to worry as veg like broccoli has lots of iron in it anyway

dot1 · 15/06/2005 21:59

Chuffed - I've tried the sneaky spoon thing but he just goes bonkers and demands that I give it him!!

rubyroo · 15/06/2005 22:10

dot1 i completely sympathise dd is wise to that too and ends up with all the spoons!!! am using lots of finger food or if what i've made is more mashed i just put a splodge on her highchair tray and let her pick that up and it seems to work, most of the time! when can we stop mashing up meat/chicken etc do you think? she has lots of teeth but am still mashing meat.

hewlettsdaughter · 15/06/2005 22:17

dd throws all spoons on the floor, one after the other...

lunavix - glad you had a good day on Sat!

Chuffed · 16/06/2005 08:17

we don't eat much meat - mainly fish and quorn but she was having sausages when we were back in NZ at 10mths without them being mashed, she still only has 5 teeth. I'd cut them into quarters length wise so that they wouldn't block airway and she just used them as finger food.

dolbear · 16/06/2005 09:37

Fennel , hope all goes OK
re eating ds seems v slow in that area , prob my fault as it is an area that i stress about quite a lot
I give him th bowl and spoon at the end of the meal so there is not too much to go flying and then he ahs at least eaten something this seems to be enough 4 now ! he has started stealing potooes etc off our plates and am using that as a monitor for what he ikes etc
prob against all the rules but ............
not realy a eater , not that you would no it @ the size of him !

dot1 · 16/06/2005 12:00

ds2 has only got 4 teeth but we've stopped mashing up all food!! Last night he had sausage (cut up into tiny bits) and mash - fab consistency as it stuck to the spoon and at the moment he always puts it in his mouth upside down!!!

TracyK · 17/06/2005 09:22

we had a little picnic in the car last night after swimming. a little parcel of garlic bread (cold) and bits of ham and a banana.
ds didn't go to bed till 8.30pm as granma and granpa are here for the weekend - so he was dogtired this morning at 6am when he woke up. early night for him tonight!

lunavix · 17/06/2005 09:49

We don't mash anything! We give him his food as we give it to the twins I mind (22 months) even though they have a mouthful of teeth and he has five

The only things we cut up are spaghetti (but then I usually use fusilli or penne to get around that! lazy!) and if we have say a sausage casserole I cut each sausage into about 5 or 6 pieces. That's it!

TracyK · 17/06/2005 10:07

If ds puts something into his mouth that isn't small enough (and boy can he open his mouth wide when he wants to) - he chews away at it for a while, spits it out, hands it to me to hold for a couple of seconds then takes it back and finishes it off! what a gent!

lunavix · 17/06/2005 10:14

Tracy - ds does that too!

Like with the sausage, he will chew for a while and either spit it into his bib or give it to me. Eat something easier then remember the bigger bit and hunt it down and finish it off!

We put ds in disposable nappies over the weekend (just in case we couldn't change him as regular as we need to with our cloth ones, and also we thought his trousers would be a bit tight - as if, we had to take them in!) and he was in them until wednesday (laziness!) and he keeps wetting through them at night!! We haven't changed brands, we just haven't used them for a while, and he's not drinking any more (not obviously anyways) but I can't believe it, he's in the same nappy for a while (about 7.30 - 7.30) but it's never been a problem before.

Is anyone find clothes sizes now huge? All the previous sizes have fit him properly within a month of him hitting the age group ie at 10 months he fit nicely into 9 - 12 month clothing.
Half his 12 - 18 month clothing is too big (his trousers at the weekend had to be taken in and up) and putting him in any 18 - 24 clothes is out of the question (I wanted to put a coat on him today as we've left his current one at MILS and it's miles too big.) In smaller sizes though going one up occassionally was never a big deal, maybe a little big on the arms etc. He's still on the same line (in the 90s!) in the red book so I'm finding it bizarre.

TracyK · 17/06/2005 12:47

what size of nappies is he in Luvanix? ds is in maxi plus from tescos and is usually in it from 6.30-6.30 and is fine. plus he drinks loads of water during the day AND half his bathwater before bedtime.

dot1 · 17/06/2005 14:59

ds is definitely more comfortable in some of his 18 - 24 month trousers - the tummy's disappearing slowly but surely..!

lunavix · 17/06/2005 15:56

Tracy - he's in 4 (or 4 plus if they've run out of 4s) don't know what name that is. He's easily in the weight though and the tabs meet at the front (and sometimes cross over too) so they seem to fit right.

HV weighed him today!!! My little lump is 26lb 12oz!!! He HAD just stuffed half his friends birthday cake into his mouth

TracyK · 17/06/2005 16:21

yes I think 4plus is the same as maxi plus.
I haven't have him weighed for ages - not since he was 10kg. I could go to the chemist and do it but then i'd have to do myself too!! mmm maybe not!
I'm not buying anymore clothes for ds this summer - shorts will do him for nursrey and playsuit or vest or nappy only will do him here. I'm sure he's ok with 12-18 but they are still a little long in the leg - but i find when he's running - trousers seem to hinder his full stride - kind of tight round the bum/hips - so i'm happier with him out of his trousers.

dot1 · 18/06/2005 10:29

ds2's in size 5 Huggies, which do the trick brilliantly - he was starting to leak a lot out of his size 4s about a month ago, so we switched.

Ds1's hopefully not in nappies at all after today!!!!!! Toilet training started today and has been quite traumatic, but I think is going to be OK...!

Only 1 more year of nappies in our house then?!!

lunavix · 18/06/2005 10:30

I'm hoping for more nappies in this house!!!!

My thread here. Still not sure what we're going to do, have a month to decide!

dot1 · 18/06/2005 11:52

Lunavix - I'd go for it!!!! It's never the right time - there's always very sensible rational reasons not to have more kids..! But if your heart's telling you to go for it, then I'd start trying - no-one knows how long it might take, so don't waste time. I don't think we'll have any more, and the most incredible thing for me after craving having kids for 9 years, is that now that feeling's gone! I'm happy with our 2 and feel relieved we're through the tiny baby stage now (although I loved it at the time) and I never feel depressed/resentful when I hear other people are pregnant, which is also wonderful!

Go with your gut instinct and good luck!

lunavix · 18/06/2005 11:57

Oh I'm tearful everytime babies are mentioned! I wish some of our close friends were ready, I think it's a good 5 years off for all of them and I plan to have all four that I want by then

hunkermunker · 18/06/2005 13:32

Luna, go for it!

The old wives tale says that girls are conceived if you have sex before you ovulate - apparently "girl sperm" hang around longer than "boy sperm" - I conceived DS on the day I ovulated (saw him as an egg on the scan so that's how I know!) - this time round, I have no idea when I ovulated, but I'm feeling far worse, so I am wondering if it's a girl - but will be more than happy with either!

Chuffed · 18/06/2005 20:56

lunavix - go for it. Fate might decide to play it's hand and you may not conceive until October anyway. This way you can at least get all the right vitamins, start taking folic acid in advance etc and you may be lucky and it might happen sooner. You just don't know how long it will take.
GO FOR IT - come join us all...

lunavix · 18/06/2005 22:06

We are!!!!!!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!

Ds wasn't planned... I have to look into the world of folic acid and vitamins. I was 13 weeks when we found out and doctor said taking folic acid was then pointless

hunkermunker · 19/06/2005 13:28

Hooray Lunavix!

Hope everything happens quickly for you
