sorry HMC - had missed this one. I've been just doing the 'threads I'm On' for a while as I've been quickly jumping on while at work.

handlemecarefully · 27/07/2005 11:11

Oh blimey, sorry - not trying to be pointed or give you an attack of the guilts. Just wanted to ask opinions in a 'safe' environment.

I'm at work too Tracy - do you know I've barely done a stroke all morning

TracyK · 27/07/2005 11:15

I haven't done much for the past month or so!! and its our year end at the end of august! Tho dh is taking ds away for a couple of days at that time - so I can work full time for then If I'm not too upset at ds being away from me for the fisrt time in 17 months!!

LucyJones · 27/07/2005 11:17

I'm dong some work on Sundays and the one day ds is at nursery as we need the extra cash!

Chuffed · 27/07/2005 11:18

I've been finding it so distressing I have to leave the room when the news of this is on as I just can't watch. I personally think this has disappeared a little due to the bomb, terrorist threats lately here in UK.
Thanks for the reminder on this HMC - will talk with dh tonight about putting a little something into whatever charity is really active there.

Chuffed · 27/07/2005 11:30

Ooh my bumble has just arrived - MrsD did you use these from newborn?

WOW Yorkiegirl congrats - that is some serious weightloss. Jealous
It is the thing I find the hardest when pregnant is getting bigger as I've been conditioned to be little if you know what I mean.

TracyK · 27/07/2005 13:09

YG - fantastic weight loss! How long has it taken and how did you do it - I need to lose 3!

MrsDoolittle · 27/07/2005 13:11

That is fabulous weightloss Yorkiegirl - you must look completely different! Have you any before and after pictures you could post for us?

HMC- I am sorry too at the lack of response to this thread. I watched a Panorama documentary recently about the situation in Darfur and honestly, I cried all the way through it, I felt so pathetic. As if crying is going to help them?
I also feel pretty helpless too, which doesn't help either I will be giving money, but that's not enough is it really?
I think alot of people feel pretty helpless, and when that happens I think we tend to ignore it

Fennel, sounds like you have an awkward situation. I think that you need to tell them you are on holiday 'overseas' and that is honest! As you point out, if they can't be reasonable about that do you want to work for them anyway?
Don't spoil your holiday for an interview, your children need you for that time, and your dh for that matter!
Atleast you can tell them you have had all your children. My poor sis can't get job she wants, she got married 6 months ago and she feels everyone is assuming she is going to get pregnant!
It's a terrible situation we are in now.

HMC - we are going to seattle btw

TracyK · 27/07/2005 13:14

Did you get a new date then Fennel?

MrsDoolittle · 27/07/2005 13:14

Oh yes and Chuffed, I have always used my bumbles for night right from newborn. Take the pad out and popper it down.
Infact come to think of it, my bumbles have been used more than any other nappy I have. They are the only ones that I have used right from newborn - every night. I love the fleece lining in them, dd's bottom is always dry.

I used tots size 1's up until 6 months and would recommend the same to anyone!

handlemecarefully · 27/07/2005 13:15

I've heard good things about Seattle Mrs D

Yorkieskinnyminx - that is phenomenol (sp?). I really must see some pictures of you. Well bloody done!

(How did you do it?)

Fennel · 27/07/2005 15:07

I did phone them. the interviewers are on holiday the next two weeks so they can't do a different week. we agreed they would hold the ints on Tuesday for those that could make it. and if they feel after that they still want to see other candidates, ie me, they'll phone me and I said I could make the Fri afternoon (we have a week in IOW and then a week in Devon so that would be just about feasible without spoiling holidya

so basically, i am scuppering my chances, probably, but never mind. think i am doing the right thing. don't want to let work dominate life too much.

Chuffed · 27/07/2005 15:53

Fennel sounds like a very small window for interviewing, our company normally interviews over a 2wk period spacing them out hopefully they'll call you in though.
MrsD, do you use any extra padding with the bumble apart from their pad thing? I'm thinking a tots booster might be needed.

MrsDoolittle · 27/07/2005 16:37

I never have done Chuffed. I don't know of you might need to while the surface on the nappies 'breaks down', as you have new nappies.

TracyK · 27/07/2005 19:19

Oh thats a bit shitty of them Fennel - alright for THEM to have a holiday!! Spose you could swing through exeter on your way to devon on the friday.
What was the job for?
are you relocating from Man. to South then?

hewlettsdaughter · 27/07/2005 20:13

Comiserations to those of you having a hellish week... Well done Yorkie though!!!

HMC - re Niger - I have to admit I haven't seen any of the news reports on the tv so don't know a lot about the particular situation. Also, re the thread - doesn't it depend on what people come to mumsnet for? I have to admit that I came on earlier and only posted on a thread about chocolate! This doesn't mean I'm unfeeling (I know you weren't insinuating I, or anyone else was - but, sometimes, I don't have time to get into anything more complicated online).

Hope this helps (just trying to answer your question honestly).

dot1 · 27/07/2005 22:10

Fennel - I'm so sorry I can't help - I know you're short on time to get the presentation ready (never mind the problem re: it being while you're on holiday). The only thing I could think of was that I could come round one tea time/evening to help with the kids to give you time to prepare your presentation, if that's any use at all? Probably not... Seems such a shame you have to miss the job opportunity. Let's hope the people they see next week are RUBBISH and they give you a ring!

HMC - I think Niger has had a lower profile than other dreadful situations - I suppose we've had the hype of G8 and of course all the horrible things happening here have knocked it off the headlines. A friend of ours has asked us to donate some money to the Oxfam appeal for her birthday present, which we thought was a good idea.

Fab day getting shoes for the boys, although I didn't manage to upgrade my bras (TracyK - I've been hoping the same thing - that somehow over the last year my weight would have magically disappeared - am now resigned to having to buy new clothes in the size I am!). Bravissimo (shop in Manchester that does big girls' bras!) was packed out so I'll have to go back another day...

handlemecarefully · 27/07/2005 22:18

Thanks HD and Dot - yes I think it (Niger) has been knocked off the news headlines to a cameo appearance. That could be it

Fennel - good call from you not to compromise the family holiday to fit the interview in. It's all about work:life balance....and if it is meant to be, they will call you to interview anyway (after first round of interviews have hopefully not resulted in an appointment). Must be really frustrating for you though....

TracyK · 28/07/2005 08:39

I'd show my keen ness by phoning them next week Fennel - don't wait for them.

dolbear · 28/07/2005 20:09

HMC - wow good memory ! have not got a job yet and TBH finding it realy hard to get well paid p/time work , have been for a few ints , but no luck , trying not to let it bother me
Niger - I think that maybe 'we ' as in the UK have gone into protect mode and perhaps can not concerntrate else where @ the mo I gues its hard - specialy when you have kids to look else where when sub-consiously looking over your shoulder and getting a little niggle every time you hear a siren , or perhaps thats just me
YG - nice one sooo please for you
mrs D went though Seattle on our honeymoon ona f/drive was going 2 c the city but dh was too ill 2 leave the hotel 2 much travelling i think
we liked wht we did c though

Fennel · 28/07/2005 20:25

dot thanks that's really kind of you . i did find someone to look after the girls today so i could do some preparation. but doing the preparation makes me feel it's perhaps not the right job anyway. normally you'd find this out at interview i suspect.

am feeling much calmer really, this job probably just not the right one. time wise or content wise.

meanwhile, i have had 3 children on my own all week in the school holidays and have not (quite) strangled any of them - i feel like supermum . i know some mothers do this every week, but it's a first for me.

dot1 · 28/07/2005 22:10

I'm in awe! I had our 2 ds's overnight on my own for the first time last week, and dp arrived home to find me in floods of tears - just grateful to have her back!!! I'm rubbish at looking after them on my own, so massive amounts of respect, Fennel!!
