my little angel has a new cute thing, putting everything on her head, hats, toys food, keys. love it.

littleboyblue · 25/09/2009 07:42

Morning.
sez remember a few of the babes are boys so would generaly be bigger than the girls anyway.
Izzy sounds very cute, putting things on her head!

I might have said the ither day that I am doing some early education sessions with each of my boys at our children's centre. Anyway, they gave us some reading materials with some activities, and one of the things for the babies was to put together a 'treasure box'. In this box you put a load of household objects that are safe for bub to play with, and it gives them the chance to choose instead of us plonking 1 toy infront of them iyswim. It also means that you can regularly change the contents to aide development where as a toy stays the same until it is broken.
So yesterday I bought a washing up bowl and have filled it with wooden spoons, a couple of weaning spoons, an old purse, a couple of small boxes, empty yoghurt pots, a tea strainer, a baby hair brush, an ice cube tray, and a few plastic cookie cutters.
Luke seems to be enjoying it.

I also put one together for ds1. In his session, they have said about making a box for a special collection of things, you know leaves, conkers etc collected from trips to the park to help with memory and so on. So I got ds1 a washing up bowl too and for the moment have put some bits in it from around the house similar to Luke's box so they both have 1 thing that is just theirs. I try to encourage sharing all toys and will continue to do so, but to teach a sense of pride and ownership, I thought this was a fab idea. Ds1 I'm sure will put a few toys in his.
Ds1 decorated his box yesterday with stickers and things and we might get the paint and glitter out over the weekend.

Just thought I'd share that.......

MarkStretch · 25/09/2009 09:46

LBB DS's favourite thing is when I put a washing basket full of clothes in front of him. He pulls it over and tears every piece of clothing out of it and flings it behind him. Hours of fun. Especially when I've just folded it all

jabs! feck, i've done it again, really must ring about those

love the treasure box idea lbb, i give A randon household things to play with like empty yogurtpot, spoons, plastic plates and bowls but i hadn't though of making a little collection of them for him to pick from himself

Cocodrillo · 25/09/2009 14:18

Treasure baskets are lovely. I have a treasure basket for R that I am quite OCD about. I trawl the internet for extra trophies for it .

The girls are v put out by it, why's R got a treasure basket? Where's my treasure basket, etc. DD2 did have one as a baby, but I was far too paranoid to have done one for DD1. She was allowed only special EU-approved bright plastic baby toys .

littleboyblue · 25/09/2009 17:56

MS That sounds really funny. Will have to try that too!
dinky Hope Danny remembers how to sleep soon
Coco That's why I did something similar for ds1 so he has something special for himself too, although he has mostly the same stuff in his box, he is far more interested in Luke's so I have to keep explaining that they have a special box each and they are the only person that can play with it, that Mummy can't even take things out of his treasure box.

Had a lovely day today., Met up with a friend and her dc's and went to a baby and toddler play (not soft play but not a parent and toddler group either iyswim) Ds1 was very well behaved and only hit my friends dd once so that was good.

Luke said dada today. He is such a clever boy, he won't shut up now!!!!!!

PinkTulips · 25/09/2009 18:35

o dear, A just smashed his face on the floor doing his monkey walk and his nose is bleeding

lbb, A still only says mama, although he shouted 'Baby' earlier but wouldn't repeat it so not sure we can count it as a word yet, poor dp is saying dadadada to him all the time and he just laughs

coco.... lol at the PFB paranoia, i was like that with dd but by the time i had ds1 i didn't care what he played with as long as it kept him busy

littleboyblue · 25/09/2009 22:07

PT Hope A is ok.
I'd still count the baby even if he only said it once, he still said it.
DS1 only started calling me mama/mummy a week before his 2nd birthday!

PolkSaladLucie · 25/09/2009 22:29

Hi all,

littlesez M is 16lbs 6oz at 7 and a half months, and she's still in 3-6 months, even with her big fluffy bum.

PT Hope A is ok. Thanks for the allergy advice. J took M to hospital for her appointment yesterday, and they said the same thing. Introduce things v. slowly, and watch for reaction. He said the only other thing is take loads of bloods which wouln't be nice for anyone. She's only had fruit, veg, fish and meat up till now, but gave her some bread earlier and she was delighted!

Hope things get better soon, Dinky. I'm dreading M's teeth coming through, but it's a necessary evil, I guess.

Cocodrillo · 25/09/2009 22:53

DS can say Hello.
Honest, he really can.

littleboyblue · 25/09/2009 22:58

coco wow.....ds1 can only just about manage hello and that normally comes out as "hoe"

Jacob came stubling out of his room a while ago with a temp of 39.9. He is laying on my bed now fast asleep so I will check his temp again in about half hour. I hate this

Cocodrillo · 25/09/2009 23:22

Hope he is better soon LBB. Have you got any calprofen-type stuff, nurofen is much better for bringing down temps than paracetamol IMO.

LittleMissNorty · 26/09/2009 07:13

Hello

Pink - hope A is ok....poor little mite. Its about this age when they start taking tumbles isn't it? I found DD sitting on DS the other day and he was screaming his head off

Dinky....its the weekend and I hope you've had a bit more sleep and have a relaxing couple of days. I'm back to work in December and although I'm looking forward to it, I know it means chaos ensues. I've already had to change my days the first week I'm back as I'm teaching and also need to go to a conference in the New Year which means changing days / childcare for a whole week....aaarrrrggghhhh.

LBB - how's L this morning? I agree infant neurofen is much better for fevers IME.

PSL - does M have allergies then? I have to say DS hasn't been weaned for allergies at all.....he's had bread, naan, pitta bread, strawberries, kiwi, egg the lot....everything you're not supposed to. But I done the same with DD and she's ok and eats everything in sight still including fruit and veg so I haven't been concerned.

My DS can't say bugger all except scream very loudly when he wants attention

littleboyblue · 26/09/2009 09:46

cocoyeah, I have ibuprofen so am alternating meds.
LMN It's Jacob (ds1) with the temp.
We got 4 hours sleep. His temp is now 41.1 so if doesn't come down in next half hour, it's a&e for us

PinkTulips · 26/09/2009 11:31

poor jacob lbb, i hope it drops soon hopefully it's just his body fighting a virus and it'll disappear as quick as it came on, my older too sometimes get roaring temps with no other symptoms and it is worrying.

feel free to roll your eyes as i'm sure you've done all this but have you stripped him down and opened some windows and given him something cool to drink? and sponged down with lukewarm water?

good luck

LMN... yeah this age is a disaster for bumps and tumbles, it was easier with my older two as they couldn't move so i could just pad all around them but if you put A in a safe place he's across the room in two minutes and thanks to his bizarre mode of movement her tends to collapse onto his face about 10 times a day.

thehouseofmirth · 26/09/2009 11:39

LBB I hope it's down and all is well.

PT I hope A's OK today.

I think we may possibly be finally off the mark with weaning here. Mr T ate a blueberry yesterday without pulling The Face (pretty much how you'd look if someone fed you putrid fish), has crunched some bread sticks and rice cakes. Last night DH & I had (quite a hot) curry and I gave him some naan bread dipped in the sauce which he liked very much. This morning he has pulverised a pear but will try him on something a bit more tasty later. Poor love was very confused the toothbrush I gave him to chew whilst I was cleaning my teeth though. He was trying to nibble bits off!

littleboyblue · 26/09/2009 11:41

PT Yeah, been doing all that most of the night! He's in just a nappy now and I have all the windows open and the fan on. He's eating lunch at the mo and I'm hoping he'll have a little sleep.

We're not long back from the walk-in clinic, his temp hit 42.4 so ran him down there and was given the same advice as you've just given!
I'll just have to keep an eye on him.

PinkTulips · 26/09/2009 12:02

how is he in himself? if he's not too unwell seeming apart from the fever there's not much to worry about, it's most likely just a strong immune reaction which is actually a good thing.

if he seems quite unwell though with a temp that high go get a second opinion at a&e

I'm guessing if he's eating though there's not much to worry about, the fever will probably vanish as quick as it appeared.

i brought dd to the gp with a temp of over 41 degrees once as she had a rash too, we were in the waiting room for 20 mins and in that time her fever dropped back to 37 degrees and the rash faded almost to nothing... i think the gp thought i was a bit of a mentalist bringing her a perfectly healthy child!

MarkStretch · 26/09/2009 17:20

We went swimming and someone else was sick in the pool and we all had to get out. It's making me feel sick even typing that.

LBB- hope DS1 is ok, it's so scary when they have a high temp like that.

dinkystinky · 26/09/2009 19:08

Afternoon all. LBB - hope J is ok and his temperature is down now, poor little man. Its a good sign that he's eating though - hopefully he'll fight off his bug soon. I've had a nasty 24 hour bug yesterday/today which had my temperature soaring - not nice - so hope Jacob has just got a 24 hour thing. The treasure baskets sound lovely. Sadly Danny is only really interested in things he really shouldnt be playing with - particularly electrical wires (which going by Danny's reaction to them are like catnip for babies) - so suspect any treasure basket I created would be well and truly ignored.

Pink - hope A is alright now. Danny's protocrawling was the cause of many nosebleeds in the dinky household. How is DD doing?

Coco - wow at DS's hello! I think there is definitely something in the saying that you either have a talker or a walker... One of my NCT friends had a little girl (born day after DS1) who didnt start crawling till she was over 1 - but she started speaking at 8 months and had a brilliant vocab by 1 whereas DS didnt really start properly talking till he was 1 and a half but was rolling everywhere by 6 months.

Markstretch - bleurgh at the vommy pool! Not a great start to the day..

Danny still miserable with his teeth/cold combo - he has now added not eating or taking any bottles (but will have short bfs through the night ) to his not sleeping repertoire. Oh well, what doesnt kill me will make me stronger...
