Flippin' 'eck I wish my two would rest sometime.

Tree up here yesterday - freebie that Mum got from a fellow farmer - bit bent but smells great and has so many decorations you can hardly see the tree! We do not take a colour coordinated approach in this house -all on, explosion in a decoration box type look.

My sis has done something very silly. She left the babies with her DH and escaped to the new build to grout the hearth...did this in sub zero temperatures and used her fingers with no gloves. Ended up in A & E with alkali burns to 3 fingers and fully bandaged hand...not good for breastfeeding and doing nappies never mind all the other stuff associated with having 2 little ones. Oops.

Am meant to be writing up the minutes of a meeting with Early Years Quality team re our playgroup before i meet with staff tomorrow...as long as we don't get an Ofsted inspection this week we may survive.

UniS · 14/12/2009 21:25

Happy Christmad every one.

Its choas isn't it. I used to think It was hard work working all December, but that nowt on having to juggle a family of different parties, invites, hospital apts,Choir practises nativity plays and preschool. At least at work I just went to same building every day and did same show 2 or 3 times then went to bar then went home and slept.

I'm pushing boy back into having rests as he is Sooooo so knackered and grumpy by mid afternoon. He needs to sleep bank a bit before Christmas ideally just to get him through the late bedtimes and no lie ins of his cousins routine.

OP posts:
Astrophe · 14/12/2009 23:33

sorry uni, wasn't having a go - I think if your boy needs sleep and will speep/rest, then why not!? Good for you! Mine are having lots of late nights, but (very firtunately for me I know) they are they type who sleep in the next day after a big night...which is nice for me too!

LL - you poor sis! Oh dear! How will she manage?

Tree sounds lovely! Ours is a mixed bag of decoratiuons too - although the tree is massive and we don't have that many decos, so our sounds a little more sparce!

All ok here, a lovely friend has kindly offered help with the kids so I can do some shopping without them, so that is today's activity.

Astrophe · 14/12/2009 23:34

oh and forgot to say - DD2 has been getting worse and worse at sleeping ovr ethe past few weeks, but then last night did 7 hours! Best ever! (very explodey boobs though!).

Frizbe · 15/12/2009 23:21

at your explody boobs Astro, I remember that feeling well.

Uni, I hope ds is giving you some peace and quiet in the afternoon and napping like a good boy, dd1 used to nap until she was nearly 5, sadly dd2 has never taken to it, although she's starting to not want to get up in the morning bar weekends, when they all get up at 7am

LL, ouch for your sister, not fun

How's you caddy?

My week has gone to pot, was planning lots of wrapping of stuff, (luckily kids done) as dh has gone and fallen ill.....suspected stomach ulcer, Dr has given drugs today, but he's had it since Sunday am, blagged his way thru Sunday then had mega reflux since, so not eaten or slept since midnight (when he woke me up) Sun/Mon...... Hoping the tablets do the trick, but when I picked them up was told 2/3 days to kick in......obviously if they don't work, its hospital investigation time, but fingers x'd it is an ulcer and these will do the job! (he is quite highly strung anyway this has meant I've had to work his shifts as well as mine! the perils of business....meanwhile Gran was read her last rites last night, but has perked up again have to see how long that lasts.....tis the seaon to be jolly.....

Mind you just seen the weather, snow forecast nothing like the weather to cheer a girl up!

Cadmum · 17/12/2009 08:06

Just a quick message to let you know that I am trying to sneak a peek at MN now and then but dh is in Copenhagen (worried that his job is on the line) and my parents are here so I am run off my feet.

More once he is back on Saturday...

laundrylover · 17/12/2009 18:45

Caddy, so much stress for you . Please try to take it easy for even an hour or so when Dh is back this weekend. Promise?

Friz, you too! Your poor DH....and your gran. Old people always choose this time of year to die in my family too...tis the way of the world. Hope DH picks up for Christmas with his tablets - they have good treatment for ulcers these days I think and don't they say they are just naturally occuring? Remember reading about this somewhere...

Uni, your comment about work days made me smile - we really did think that life was hectic in the pre-kids days didn't we? Poor naive fools.

Astro, ouch for your boobs but hurray for 7 hours!!!

Well, we have the floor down in the dining room and our giant beanbag back - since we got back from school the girls have done nothing but jump from an armchair onto the beanbag! They did break for tea but have refused to watch TV!! Now, DP tells me he is working on the photos...don't hold your breath though.

laundrylover · 17/12/2009 18:46

Forgot to say that my sis is unbandaged and slowly recovering from the frostbite and burns. Bad news is that the tiles have come up anyway - too cold for the adhesive methinks.

UniS · 18/12/2009 20:07

porr ole sis, all that pain and teh ruddy tiles have come off as well.

Dh feeling sorry for himself and bruised today. only 3 months to wait till he finds out if it (snip, yesterday) worked. I have to keep boy from being rough with daddy for the weekend! no sword fight, no leeping to daddies lap, no head butting daddy in groin etc. so no fun at all really.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 19/12/2009 23:18

Uni I'm keeping my fingers x'd for your dh that it has worked hope ds managed to lay off hurting him this weekend.

LL, we want photos!

Caddy hope all is good with dh's current job, fingers x'd.

Gran passed away yesterday evening but its for the best really and it happened fast, so she wasn't in any pain or anything and my auntie/uncle managed to get there in time to say goodbye too. 95 is a good innings all in all eh, hope I make it that long!

dd1 has been a right pita today, refused to go to her friends party....decided she was 'so over soft play' so I had to take dd2 and the present instead, along with a huge apology Left the errant dd1 with dh.

UniS · 20/12/2009 16:28

so far so good, boy being given lots of reminders that daddies lap hurts... so be gentle.

Very colourfull bruises he has from it, and fairly neat stiches.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 20/12/2009 23:41

Uni ahhhhh you're taking me back

Cadmum · 21/12/2009 15:19

Uni: Snip? What might that be? I hope that your dh's recovery is swift and that the boy remembers to be gentle. Bruising does not sound comfy...

My dh has made it home 48 hours later than scheduled (as if he should have gone in the first place). . In the end, everyone was impressed with his performance and he was asked to pose with President Obama for the official White House photographer. Dd2 was over the moon as she is constantly reminded that by American friends that Mr. Obama is her president. I think that dh found it all slightly uncomfortable given that he didn't have a similar opportunity with the Canadian PM (or any other world leader for that matter) so it all feels a bit like hero worship...

Friz: I am sorry to hear about your gran. Even when it all seems for the best, the end is sad. Thinking of you.

LL: What a nightmare for your dsis... OUCH! Your house sounds like it is really coming along. Still looking forward to the photos!

Astro: How is it being back in the Southern Hemisphere for Christmas. Did you know that it is snowing like mad back in the UK?

UniS · 21/12/2009 19:19

Let it snow, let it snow. We have had a dusting, but barely enough to make footprints in.
Friz was your DH whos vesectomy didn;t work? I thought I knew of someone... If it was syours, what happened in the end if I may be so rude as to ask.
Caddy- your bloke gets about a bit doesn;t he. I hope the little obamas like teh pic of their daddy next to cadbloke.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 21/12/2009 20:36

Wow! Caddy do we get to see a pic of your dh with el presidente then?

Uni, yes it was my dh typical eh! he had it done a 2nd time! with lots more tubing taken out so far its worked!

We have lots of snow all kids very happy about that, sledging a plenty
Meanwhile, having passed its mot on Friday, with £320 additional bits done on it, my car decided to start making an odd noise on Saturday.....I took it back to garage today and they reckon its the gearbox, want £600 to repair it....gulp....rang my dad, whose retired garage owning mate is giving me a 2nd opinion tomorrow and can hopefully halve the cost

Astrophe · 22/12/2009 04:40

just a quick hi - need to get to postbox within the hour to post Christmas cards!

so sorry about Gran Friz - you doing ok? Typical that DD1 should choose this time to be a little turkey re friends party huh?

Uni - wishes for DH's speedy recovery!

Caddy - well done to DH hey!? Agree wityh Uni - the little Obama kids should be v impressed thaeir daddy got his photo taken with Cadbloke

Christmas in the South - well, I miss Norther Chrissy, which we did enjoy, and your snow makes me jealous. Its very humid here and warm to hot...a bit too hot...but we are enjoying mangoes, cherries etc, kids in paddling pool etc, so going ok. Had Christmas carols at the beach on the weekend - very nice.

laundrylover · 22/12/2009 19:02

Friz, sorry about your Gran but what a ripe old age eh? Glad she went without pain in the end.

Uni - thinking about your DHs sore parts!!! Not really!

Caddy, at this rate we are more likely to see your DH with President Obama than any pics of my house extension!!!

Astro -we have LOADS of snow! In fact we are more or less snowed in. DP dug the car out yesterday but more snow today meant the roads were terrible and we couldn't get to Oldham for Mother Goose. I had to cancel my hair appt and work cancelled a meeting so we have had a 'do nothing' day. Watched Harry Potter which the girls enjoyed. Yesterday I took them and 2 friends sledging and they all came home in tears. Total wimps. Think there may have been a mix up at the hospital. Twice.

So, we have no food in for Xmas, presents at both sets of grandparents and we are surrounded by snow which makes the girls cry after 10 mins exposure

Is that a Xmas poo hole????

UniS · 22/12/2009 19:40

How are the main roads just south of Leeds? I ask as we are heading up to SiL in Rothwell on Christmas eve. Its motor ways most of the way.

OP posts:
Astrophe · 22/12/2009 22:46

Oh dear LL! Sorry for your troubles, but that did make me LOL. Hope you can get out soon!x

Frizbe · 22/12/2009 23:02

Uni, main roads are ok, so long as it doesn't snow again! (derbyshire and nottm have gritted the main ones and the M1 was fine earlier, when I went over it) you should get to south of Leeds no probs (avoid Manchester side as more snow that way, cut across at Brum n you should be ok), although Xmas eve there is snow forecast for here, the bbc one on tv just now said xmas eve morning, but the one on bbc website says xmas eve evning?! metcheck says xmas eve overnight then lunchtime onwards, which will make driving anywhere a PITA, good luck! and if you get stuck anywhere near me, feel free to shout and come and stay if you need to. How's your dh feeling?

LL {{{Hugs}}} your poor girls not liking the snow, dd2 got a snowball in the face from one of the bigger lads on the close the other day, came in crying and snowy bless her. Dd1 was whingy about it last year, but my enforced giant snowman competition with the rest of the street competing, seemed to get her into it (she's still not that into sledging though) which reminds me of the boy who I heard whinging to his mum yesterday that he had snow on his new sledge whilst she tried to explain that's what happens! I hope you can manage to dig yourself out enough to get food and presents? though I see you're getting more snow overnight tonight........can you take the sledge to the store? (leaving the kids with dh?)

Astro, carols on the beach that sounds lovely, whilst we're all loving the snow, hot sounds so nice too

Took car to dad's mate for 2nd opinion today, he said its the wheel bearings, so took back to local garage and told them, they listened again, agreed and its booked in tomorrow for new bearings......so not the costly gearbox repair I'd feared at garage.......

Cadmum · 23/12/2009 11:39

Thanks for your kind comments about Cadbloke... I will make sure to post a photo as soon as it is sent. (The White House promise was to ship it early in the New Year. In the mean time we are enjoying the certificates of appreciation from the various delegations and the vast number of coins given as mementos.)

Today's task is to try and make a decision between Cambodia and NYC. Man-oh-man... I am not great at making decisions at the best of times and I do know how spoiled we are for choice but it is torture! Every time we think that we have made a final decision something else springs to mind to make us think that the opposite might be better.
Friz It doesn't exactly instill confidence when the mechanic mis-diagnosis the car, does it? I hope that it is sorted ASAP.

LL: I also had to laugh about your dds in the snow. It reminded me very much about a time (pre-children) where we took our (4 year old) niece to go sledding in the mountains. Five minutes into the experience she was crying about going home and we had driven for over 2 hours to get there... Thankfully our lot are on the verge of too hardy. We could barely drag them inside for meals and they were certain not dressed appropriately of their own free will. Lovely thick Canadian blood me thinks.

Astro: I am glad that you are taking advantage of the warm holidays. I can't really imagine a warm Christmas but I could get used to it as I am not a big fan of the cold, wet white stuff.

Uni I hope the roads are cleared up in time for your travels. We had a white-knuckled drive home from Interlaken on Sunday and dh was caught in Zurich for the night. May you fare much better! (Tis all melting away here now so no chance of a white Christmas, I guess.)

I had another scan this morning and it would appear as though I am actually 15 weeks pg and that all is going brilliantly. Now to get through until the next appointment.

Happy Christmas to everyone if I don't make it back before then. I have very little shopping done and no groceries so the next day and a half shall be insane, as usual![ fsmile]

Frizbe · 23/12/2009 20:50

Snow update for Uni, its just stopped here, about another 2cm on the ground at the moment, ontop of the stuff that had melted a bit today/yesterday, main road at the back of our house looks ok from what I can see. Apparently more snow forecast overnight though?

Caddy great news to hear that bump is doing ok and 15 weeks already wow!
I don't envy you having to choose between NYC and Cambodia, I'd love to live in both for a year although I think NYC would just swing it for me if I were you, as Canada is relatively close then. Question, you mentioned dh could then get a University post type job after this next year, if Princeton is in the running NYC would make sense now? then you could settle for quite some time Jersey side? on the other hand Cambodia could be a last fling! gah, choices, choices.....

Frizbe · 23/12/2009 20:52

Gah, hit post before I meant to.
Car all sorted, thanks, garage apologised, said really didn't think it was that, as staff member should have picked it up on MOT, quite....they said staff had been spoken too etc.

Had to have plumber out today too, as heating packed up last night, but it didn't kick in again this am, all sorted now, we're warm again 'it never rains eh?'

Astrophe · 23/12/2009 20:53

Hey Friz, you still there?

Far too early to be up MNing on Christmas eve I think, but kids are all up and DH having a well earned lie in. Shall have to go wake him soon though as I seem to have the 'flu ang not coping with anything but sitting on the sofa...(which is a problem, as I need to make Christmas lunch for tomorrow...)
