Happy Christmas (well boxing night now) from Sydney :) We had a manic but enjoyable day - tried to do too much, will tone it down next year. We had a boxing day BBQ at ours today and both DH and I so befuddled and tired that we set the table, got everyone to sit, and then realised that all we had prepared was meat...no salad, bread, spuds...lol, we rustled up a quick salad and thawed a loaf of bread! Thankfully we had a christmas cake and friend had brought a pavlova :) DC are enjoying walkie talkies from us and scooters from GPs, I am enjoying shiny gorgeous new PURPLE kitchenAid :o Dh enjoying drill Confused.

Caddy , I will email it to you, but in the meantime, the drug is called doxylamine succinate, and here it is sold as a sleeping aid under the brand names "Restavit" and "Dozile". You need 25mg tablets, and you take 2 over the course of the day, so half at wake up, half arvo and one at night, or I take half eveing and half at bedtime. It will make you pretty drowsy for the first week or so, but the effects do wear off. Its not a 'new' drug, just new to me. Motherar ehelp line lady said its been used by millions of women around the world for years, and was widely used in Australia in the 70s to good effect, but then everyone freaked out after thalydamide and now GPs will very rarely prescribe anything at all here nowadays.

Hope you all had/are having lovely days.

Astrophe · 26/12/2010 10:22

Caddy, wasn't sure if the vienna address I have is still current so I messaged you on FB. x

Cadmum · 26/12/2010 14:55

Thanks astro. I took something similar with dd2... It barely took the edge off. Grrrr!

Glad you had a nice Christmas. Boxing day horror sounds like something that dh and I might do. Way to try and salvage it! If it is any consolation, we had a big bbq shortly after arriving here and didn't realize until after the guests' had departed that we didn't serve either of the salads we had spent hours preparing. I still wonder what they though about meat, baked potato and bread as a meal. Perhaps they thought it was a traditional Canadian thing?

I hope everyone else is enjoying a Happy Christmas. We didn't hear from a single member of dh's family... Typical though slightly offensive after we spent so much time with them in October. Gotta love family; they are all on FB with regular updates and even appear to be signed into skype. I seriously despair. My dcs went to bed last night feeling very confused and forgotten.

Borisismyhousespider · 27/12/2010 22:13

Aww Caddy {{{{Big Hugs}}}} that's really weird of them? and very lax!! am annoyed on your behalf.

Astro, whoopse! sounds like you had a fun if busy time!

We bailed out to my parents nice warm house on Xmas day, then spent boxing day (that uk traditional extra day off) sorting out boxes in our back room, until we had cleared a path to the fire, so we could light it Shock whilst the kids huddled in front of the tv/xbox for the day. dd1 is very impressed with her new roller skates, has been wearing them since she opened them, it appears normal footwear is sooo passe....dd2 is camera happy, as santa got her the fisher price one!

Astrophe · 28/12/2010 22:56

lol caddy at your meal - glad we are not the only daft ones :) Disapointing you have already tried the drug - sorry to get your hopes up :( How are you going? Would it be worth trying it again? Are your house guests pulling their weight?

I am 10 weeks today and feeling like crap - not sure if the drug is becoming less effective the longer I take it, or just that I am still getting sicker. Surely it can't keep on getting worse - thought it was supposed to 'peak' at 9 weeks :(

Boris - glad you found a heat source eventually! Sounds very chilly indeed! Are you lot back at school now, or is it next week? DH back at work today, but kids off for another 4 weeks after this week...what will I do with them???

laundrylover · 29/12/2010 12:06

Congrats and welcome back DTM!!!

Just popped in to say hello and see how all your Christmasses went...ours was hectic but fun. We stayed at my parents Xmas eve and had to wake the girls up at 7am as we had all been up since 6am with my nephewsGrin...girls very pleased with pressies especially Polly Pocket Rollercoaster resort!

Wii is a big hit with DP and my dadWink. They were playing a sword fight game last night and all the kids were fighting with cardboard tubes!! Typical.

Boxing Day was crazy at mum and dad's farm...27 of us went on the traditional walk including the girls who did about 5 miles with some shoulder rides. We ended up with 56 people back at the house for foodShock!!! Very poignant as it is the last Boxing Day at the farm Sad.

My bro is back in Somerset, sis on way back to Scotland and we are rediscovering Xmas pressies and enjoying a bit of peace and quietSmile.

Happy New Year to all and may 2011 be less nauseus for some of you and less hectic for us allGrin.

UniS · 29/12/2010 23:01

56 people!!! blimey, thats lot of cups of tea.

Happy Betwixtmas to you all. Hope you are filling the void in warm & pleasant ways .

Thaw continues apace here, first night in weeks we havnt had teh fire lit.

Happy New Year!

Just back from the temples in Siem Reap; Angkor Wat was everything we were told to expect. We had a great week. I am now exhausted and nauseated nearly around the clock. I hope this one sticks. I still haven't told the dcs but they are going to guess if I cannot keep from being sick and useless all of the time.

My parents arrive in 10 days. I will have to tell them as well since friends pretty much guessed by the pallor of my skin an general lack of interest in food.

Borisismyhousespider · 01/01/2011 22:57

Caddy spotted your photos, they're great Smile fingers very x'd for you.

Astro, sorry your feeling so poorly still, hope it goes away soon. Kids go back this week, think it's Tue, tho it may be Wed, now we've swapped areas....

Uni, we've still go the fire on! hoping to get our boiler fixed next week so we have heating again.....

LL, I'm trying to imagine how many times you'd need to boil the kettle for 56 cups of tea Shock glad you all had a great Xmas, even though it is the last at the farm, end of an era {{{Hugs}}}

Anway HAPPY NEW YEAR all! had a lovely chilled out day here, baking ham for a family visit tomorrow, short walk (skates for dd1) general fiddling with the house and playing with xmas goodies Smile So nice to have a day with the whole family at home!

Borisismyhousespider · 07/01/2011 23:12

Booo! where are you all then?

1st week at school negotiated here.
dd1 adjusting slowly, has relented and actually played with another new girl today, has apparently not played with peers until today, instead has been mixing with older kids Hmm but she's enjoying the school and the work!

dd2 got accidently put with the wrong group on 1st day, they assumed she was a Jan starter (in another schools uniform?!) and so were shocked at her basic reading (from those 1st set of books they do, you know the, cat, mat, sun etc) and the fact that she could do slide up letters! so was good in the fact she was with another 10 or so new kids, but bad as they tried to teach her stuff she knew, but by day two and a quick chat with me they'd got it sorted and put her with the older group doing a bit more challenging stuff!

UniS · 09/01/2011 20:32

Had 1st week at school here as well. Boy has coped very well with mornings all last week, tomorrow its full time. 10 new starters in a reception class of 22. He's loving it and coming home full of tales about assembly, playtime, ride on tractors and exercises, no idea if they have done any phonics or number work yet.
We did have a "reading book" home on friday, one of those biff and chip wordless books.

I have applied for casual mealtime assistant work at school, also for part time census collector job. Couldn't apply for full time role as our ( rural) area is sooo large I couldn't get to much of it by bike, and don;t have teh car most day times.

Have started planning boys birthday party. Its gonna be a big one, shared with another family. Looking at inviting nearly 40 kids assuming about 30 will show up.

Happy 2011 allSmile

Good to hear that the new schoolers are settling in and finding their way....Uni are you feeling bereft?? Hence the jobs??

How are those little bumps coming on then?

T had her flu jab this morning and screamed the surgery down - little drama queen she is. Never bothered about jabs beforeHmm.

Anyhows I was just checking in...will try and be around a but more but flat out at work and home following that long Xmas break....desperately need to do some invoicing as DP is doing my tax return and it'll be a whopping bill this year as I did OK last year.

Astrophe · 10/01/2011 23:11

Boris and Uni glad school is off to a good start. Must be a strange feeling Uni, to have him 'gone'. Boris, how are they going being the 'new' girls? Did you get the uniform sorted?

eek at tax bills LL! Mine have got worse and worse at jabs too - took two nurses to hold DS when he had his flu jab last year! I wa sshocked as he was very stoic for his 4 years ones! And of course he set DD1 off...DD2 is still good, sahe doesn't flinch (although more next month, so we shall see then!)

Bump will be 12 weeks tomorrow, then scan on Thursday. Sickness took a turn for the worst last week and ended up back at GP who has upped meds to try to control it. Feeling a little better the last day or so, so hoping things are looking up. 3 more weeks until I have to start doing school run so I MUST be a bit better by then.

DD2 is an absolute terror at the moment, destroying the house, whilrwind of cuteness and noise and mess. She has figured out how to open the cupboard locks...argh!

Borisismyhousespider · 11/01/2011 22:09

Astro, ARGH for cupboard locks, so much for those keep the child out designs eh WinkAll of mine now hate jabs too.....{{{hugs}}} for the sickness I really hope it quits soon for you.

Uni, I've heard a few people mention the census jobs, how long are they for? a few months or the whole year? are you enjoying your free time without boy? or going stir crazy?

LL, good luck with sorting out the taxes! get those invoices in quick Smile sorry dd screamed the place down....

Caddy how's things?

DavidT'setc????

Think the kids are going ok at school, dd2 hasn't been yet this week, as had a touch of a bug (sickness followed by raging temp anyone?) has perked up tonight though, so am sending her in tomorrow! I really need to get back into work (not been in since Sat and it seems like ages away!) plus had ss being sick on sat and dd1 then started up sat night, so ARGH at the whole weekend being one big bundle of PUKE!!! sob, etc, we had planned a nice weekend doing stuff, n I was supposed to use Mon to catch up with two people I'd not seen in ages and it all went to pot Hmm BAH!

Cadmum · 12/01/2011 01:42

Wow. School. I can only imagine what dd2 would make of reception. She thinks that she is a teenager and ready to conquer the world.

I am feeling slightly better than last week but still very nauseous most waking hours. My parents (and their friends) arrived at 1 am this morning. I was very, very grateful to dh for picking them up at the airport and getting them settled.

I have a scan this afternoon after which I imagine telling everyone our 'surprise'. I found myself feeling Blush at my initial antenatal appointment yesferday. Thanfully the Dr is one of 5 herself so she can imagine a big family...
Now to figure out my parents plans for the day. My dcs are longing to see them.

davidtennantsmistress · 12/01/2011 12:35

hi all,

sorry have been really crap again keeping up with things - will have to sit down and have a proper good read later on with the thread.

I'm still feeling sick - boobs still soooo tender & sore, & DP is asking if there's an anti hormone drug I can take - poor bloke. so far all is well thou.
how is everyone?

Cadmum · 12/01/2011 13:44

Scan went well today. 10 weeks down 28 to go, please...

Astrophe · 12/01/2011 22:02

Great news Caddy :) How did the kids react?
Great your hormones are pumping nicely too DTM :o

I have a scan this arvo. Taking all kids. Big mistake???

Cadmum · 13/01/2011 01:10

Astro, I used to take my children along (mostly out of necessity) but I felt the need to change my thinking after my first mmc...

Will you be on your own with them? I also found it tricky to concentrate on my children's whereabouts and the info that the sonographer was passing on.

I still haven't found the courage to tell them that I am pg yet.

Well done DT'sM! Try and keep us updated.

Astrophe · 13/01/2011 01:27

Caddy, no DH will be there too, so we should be ok. The big two are excited, but would have been nice to have someone to eave DD2 ith, but nobody is around as it s holidays. DH can take her away if shes dreadful.

Borisismyhousespider · 13/01/2011 21:20

Yay for family arriving Caddy and for good scan Smile fingers very x'd for you.

DTM Grin your dp's a 1st timer himself then is he, oh the joys of a pregnant partner eh! make him watch 'one born every minute' Wink

Astro, hope your scan goes ok, good luck with the kid juggling.

Am wondering if I'm ever going to get my car back here, it broke 5 days after we brought it in Dec...I've had a courtesy car ever since! which is good in that I have a car and am putting miles on a car I don't own, but bad in that it only fits 4 people....apparently there is a bicker between whose doing the fixing, the dealership, the warranty co, or the co the dealer brought the car from!

Astrophe · 13/01/2011 22:22

Oh dear Boris, yes your car saga has been going on a while hasn't it! If it makes you feel any better, DH has just managed to get his insurance sorted for an accident he had last November! The guy at fault has finally agreed it was his fault.

Had scan yesterday, baby looked well but wouldn't cooperate and turn the right way for being measured, despite lots of poking prodding and going to the loo 3 times to 'let out a bit - not all'..argh Tested my pelvic floor to the limit! Anyway, I have to go back next week - will not take the kids then!

Borisismyhousespider · 14/01/2011 21:23

Oh Astro, that sucks, damn stubborn baby! guess she just didn't want to show off to her brother and sisters (you see there's me saying her and I don't know at all!!)

My friends in NZ just had a baby girl today Smile that's probably why I'm saying her Wink

laundrylover · 16/01/2011 13:56

Heartening to read news of all 3 bumps progressing Smile....the sickness is a pain but it won't last forever eh?

Boris - are the girls getting to feel more part of their classes now? Have you got them uniforms??

DP and I have a child free day as the kids stayed at my parents last night...pouring down so despite getting up and straight into running kits we are still here...lots of invoicing done though and we discovered a big one from Sept that hasn't been paid so we're not as poor as we thought!

The garden really needs a blitz after the snow has melted to reveal lots of sad, brown leaves that need removing...some brave bulbs are pushing up and I'd rather look at thoseSmile. I must brave the cold for an hour and do some clearing...once the confounded rain stops. It's going to be very hard to set off for a run in this!!

Borisismyhousespider · 17/01/2011 23:30

Ooooh it was sooo grim with the rain yesterday eh LL, did you ever get out? dh kindly drove us to the pub for tea (he took the car home and walked back with brolly!) all to save me from cooking Smile

Girls are a little more settled I think, though still some playing up, dd1 is messing about with food for attention (I hate that! when clearly has been eating it for years) and dd2 is playing school up already, as she's rattled through her 'words' at home, yet came back with 'a little more work needed' written on her sheet tonight Hmm it's stuff like a, an, it, in, which she already knows.....I said to her, what happened here then, she shrugged and rattled them off to me Hmm parents evening next week, so I shall be having a word I think...am hoping they're not holding her back to stay with the group....more likley she's refusing to do them as she already knows them (hazards of swapping schools)
