Marking place as so much gone on since last posted - deb glad you had a nice holiday and love the photos. Sponge- I like keir and never mind if people don't get it. Pp- very brave of you to do that with your dad but understand your hesitance about his use of words. I sympathize as have similar family situation but as my dad died when I was 12 no chance now of getting his side of story and it's not something I can raise with my mum.

Amber hope move went well. Ah sorry tto heat about Fraser and hope your dh gets some more than his ffer.

Allnew your boss trying it on- did you do a flexible work application when you went back and if so are Rey going back on it?

Purée you are a saint and no wonder you are cheesed off.

Hi to all else - ktpie whinegums Essie bdq viva neenz the last of the union diehards and champion of car park rights. Agree you should pick your battles but I gae a child who only really likes milk from a bottle so am going to end up waiting til I can point out to her that's what babies do .

Edie got bit of a fever and bit off colour so suspect it's the mmr as Its a week today. Aside from that knackered and bit miserable as one of nct lot announced she was pregnant which has floored me in a way that news on here of pregnancies doesn't seem to - not sure why but it did. Oh well hoping Edie settles maybe chocolate and wine will help- two sessions of therapy a week certainly aren't helping

PiggyPenguin · 11/09/2009 19:09

Have missed loads so apologies for that. Am really just marking my place until I get chance to do a proper post. Poppy, I think it is completely normal though to be upset when others conceive around you. We have all done it I'm sure.

Oh and Sponge my mum has a similar name issue with Richard. I had two cousins called Richard and both died under 8. She is now convinced it is a 'bad' name for us and begged everyone when pg not to use it. One drowned in a swimming pool and the other died from complications from the measles.

DebInAustria · 11/09/2009 20:21

PP - you are my new best friend - I am 40 Enjoy your day off tomorrow.

Ali - how did the creche go? Did he cling or not?

Sybil -what sad news about your cousins. My uncle died young and my aunty (his sister) was pregnant at the time and called her baby her brothers name - I think it's a bit creepy and I know my Dad didn't like it.

Poppy - maybe Edie's off colour because of the chocolate and wine - "Oh well hoping Edie settles maybe chocolate and wine will help" - good job we know you! Seriously though I'm sorry that therapy isn't working and also that you're down about the nct pregnancy. I hope it happens for you soon.

Essie - you do make me laugh!

Abdn - I completely understand how upset you feel for poor Fraser, remember how gutted I was about Tristan needing glasses and that's not an operation. Go to Aviemore and have a great time with your boys, how long are you going for?

Puree -hello!

BDQ and Whinegums - can you please stop mentioning Christmas , I love Christmas but knowing how many sleeps in September is doing my head in

DebInAustria · 11/09/2009 20:26

News - Nigel has sent off some music to the young singerAndrea Ross and she's agreed to sing the demos for his musical. I am so proud

....not so happy with him for saying that PP's age guesses are because she hasn't seen me in the flesh!Cheeky bugger!

AliPalli · 11/09/2009 20:45

Deb say well done to Nigel. Peter was fine at creche. He didn't cling at all, and infact he couldn't get in there quick enough and was wriggling in his buggy whilst I filled the forms in. When I went to collect him he saw me and charged to the gate and cried when I went and got the buggy first, so I think he was pleased to see me . Various unused muscles in my body are aching from the exercise class body balance. It was a bit odd as it was a combination of tai chi, yoga and pilates, all in an hour . I enjoyed the exercise though, and will go again.

Poppy I can completely understand where you are coming from. I would have the same reaction in your position.

PP Virtually waiting with you for another email from your father.

bitofadramaqueen · 11/09/2009 21:00

I've been catching up on and off through the day, but only just sat down to post now, so no doubt will have forgotten something.

Back on the name Keir - people would certainly recognise it in Scotland . I would say its a well known name here, but not common IYSWIM? Although I do in fact know a few Keir's but that's because all my friends are raging politicos! Oh I'm also very pro-Union too Poppy

PP also waiting to hear about an update.

Great news for Nigel Deb! Any thoughts on your next location?

Sybil and Sponge such sad stories about your families and the associated names. I have a cousin who named her son after her own brother who died age 15. Most of the family felt incredibly uncomfortable with it. Sounds similar to your story Deb. Poppy sorry that news floored you today. It's maybe much more real (with it being in RL and all!) so more of a shock?

PP enjoy your day off tomorrow!

Quick ebay question? How long would you expect something to take to arrive. Bought three things and the item I bought first (last Saturday) still hasn't arrived but something I bought on Wed arrived this morning. Incidentally, I bought a Boden sweatshirt and the woman put in an extra Boden t-shirt for free! I was really chuffed, but then worried she thought I might need some extra support in buying clothes for my kids so then felt really guilty because I don't!

Right, we're off to super sunny yorkshire tomorrow so I really must go and pack!

bitofadramaqueen · 11/09/2009 21:01

Oh, would anyone use, but didn't get, a 30% off Gap this weekend only? If so, message me tonight on FB (I prob wont have internet access all weekend) and I can email it to you.

PiggyPenguin · 12/09/2009 11:19

Abdn I realised after I'd posted yesterday I'd forgotten to say how upsetting Fraser's op must be. Try not to worry too much, but give him extra kisses from us.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 12/09/2009 20:20

AH, so sorry to hear about Fraser - very stressful. Hope you managed to get away and enjoy the last of the summer sun, and that your health professionals sort things out without any further delay .

I think I've gone off Keir, only cos I think he'll spend his life spelling his name and I get sick of doing that and know how bloody annoying it is! Also some people think it's some made up new name and it's actually a classic Scottish name! And who hasn't heard of Keir Hardie?!

I really don't think my mum would want me to use Robert - the pain of the loss is still raw even all these years on. I have never been able to talk to her about it - all the information I know about him I learnt from my dad .

pp, I'm totally with you on limiting internet time - I spend far too much time on my PC and really feel that I could be doing something more productive!

OP posts:
DebInAustria · 13/09/2009 07:34

Been quiet on here.

Ali - glad that the creche and gym session were a success.

PP - any more from your Father?

BDQ - has your ebay item turned up yet?

Sponge - I think you would have been spelling it for a while too! So, which name is top of the list now?

Hi to everyone else, I'm struggling here with the stopping breastfeeding. Trying to cut from 3 to 2 this week then 2 to 1 next but it's hard. I wish now that I'd stopped a couple of months ago , now Ethan knows exactly what he wants and where to find it makes things very difficult.BUT he is standing unaided at last and has taken a tiny step on his own.

AliPalli · 13/09/2009 09:58

Deb great to hear that Ethan has taken some steps. Good luck with dropping the feeds. I plan to carry on with one a day when we go on holiday in a week as is should make the flight easier. Then I am going to stop when I go away on a hen weekend (hopefully). Is Ethan happier now this he is back home?

I almost have a hangover this morning, having had friends round for dinner last night. I have just about got away with it thankfully.

Sponge what did you do with the gym membership? Freeze it? My stomach muscles still hurt this morning especially when P crawls over me.

BDQ I have been inspired by the ebay chat and have bids on some clothes for P finishing this afternoon. Currently everything is at 99p. One of the friends who came round last night has just resigned from ebay following maternity leave, so we were chatting about their customer experience.

AliPalli · 13/09/2009 10:19

I have started a thread. Help me choose a dress please. here

spongebrainmaternitypants · 13/09/2009 11:55

Deb, hmm, don't know!

Ali, I didn't sign up for a year, just for monthly membership, cos we were planning an IVF cycle in June anyway so would have had to cancel if things had worked. I don't think I could afford to put two in creche so will have to rethink my fitness plans post-Bill .

The dress is gorgeous btw .

AliPalli · 13/09/2009 13:18

Our leisure centre's creche is £3.70 per under 2 year old for 90 mins. It seems quite reasonable although I'm not familiar with childcare costs generally. I'm assuming the council subsidise it in some way to get Mums active.

ktpie · 13/09/2009 14:25

Just a quick hello to say we're back after all our travels. Have skimmed through so probably missed loads.

J has found his feet this last week, and is doing lots of walking. I think the new shoes helped as he has been getting lots of practise in outside holding our hands.
He had his first paddle in the sea this week, wearing wellies as it was a tad chilly, DH wasn't paying attention and a wave went over his wellies, this created a not very happy face on J as he got wet feet and I was so busy laughing (bad Mum) the same wave got my feet too, so fun all round.

My Mum gave me an ice cream maker when we were there so I've just made some raspberry ice cream, it's come out very well and I've eaten loads of it so feel a bit sick now.

Better go J has got a pad of post its and they are all being stuck all over the place!

DebInAustria · 13/09/2009 16:22

Ktpie - Sounds like you had a great tine away, and the ice cream sounds delicious, is it difficult to make?

poppy34 · 13/09/2009 16:35

Ktpie ice cream sounds impressive. Alipalli- have chickened out of leaving e in a crèche so far but need to bite the bullet at some point as she is booked into nursery for skiing holiday in march. Will check out your dress thread.

Ah- sorry meant to say how worrying for you re Fraser.

Deb good news re Nigel. Sponge so where are you now if keir and Robert are out?

Edie still bit off colour (and lol re wine and chocolate comment deb ) so assume it's mmr - still slight fever and off her food. And sympathy re cutting down the milk- e still on three bottles a day(have all bit given up on any other type of cup so will just have to wait til can be bargained with as bottles for babies.) unless anyone has any other ideas....

Better go as e trying to climb the fisher price garage(congrats Sybil and deb on walking progress - no news here)

abdnhiker · 13/09/2009 18:07

Hi, we're back from Aviemore and had a lovely time although sleep was thin on the ground the first night. We had a much better night last night or I'd have collapsed from exhaustion! I'll have photos up on the website later on tonight I hope (spirit of place dot com).

Thank for all the support with Fraser's hernia. I'm still a bit upset everytime I change him and see it but otherwise I'm getting calmer. We should hear this week about an appointment with the specialist and I think that will be a positive experience. I hate not knowing things....

Deb good for Nigel although i hope you gave him a (pretend if you wanted) slap for the cheeky comment about your looks/age.

poppy totally understand your feelings about the NCT friend. I found a friend's pregnancy hard because I knew I would see it in person.

deb I know what you mean about stopping BFing. I was determined to stop, even though F is determined to keep going. But now that he's got an operation coming up I'm going to let him win until after that. I've heard it's handy when they are coming out of the anaesthetic. So he wins for a little longer...

waves to everyone!

neenztwinz · 13/09/2009 18:08

Poppy,it's totally understandable to feel sad when someone you know but don't really care about gets PG. I remember it well .

I think our babs are all still young enough to have bottles if that's what they want. My niece has one at bedtime, she is 2.5yrs! The only way to stop is just to stop offering but then of course you get the tears etc so it depends which you prefer! I'd go for the bottles .

Abdn, poor Fraser and you. E had same thing, inguinal hernia, when she was 9weeks old and had the op at 12w, it was really scary but everything went perfectly, they said it was the most common op they did. The op went fine and she was fully recovered (and sleeping through ) within a few days with just a bit of Calpol for pain relief. Her fallopian tube was hanging out but they said there would be no long-term damage. She had one follow-op apt to check everything was fine and that was it. Hope Fraser has as good an experience.

You are all right about the beaker of course, I thought the same, that if he wants that beaker why not give it him. What I do draw the line at though is when I give him the beaker he wants, but he throws it on the floor and cries to be given Esther's - which is exactly the same! He can be a right one at times. He is going through a really weird stage at the mo where he is hardly eating anything and not sleeping as well as normal. He went for his lunch nap today and I don't know whether he slept at all, and usually he loves his sleep. He just sat in his cot playing and talking to himslef. It was the same at bedtime last night, it took him about 90mins to drop off when usually it is instant with him. He is still sleeping late in the morning though thankfully.

ktpie, sounds like a fab break, great with the walking!

Debs, well done Nigel! That's fab news.

DebInAustria · 13/09/2009 18:44

Abdn - I think it will be a comfort for F and for you to carry on with the BF until after his op.

AliPalli · 13/09/2009 19:10

Evening.

AH and Ktpie glad you had good weekends away. Sounds lovely all round.

I am winning lots of trousers for P on ebay today. So far I have won three out of three auctions with 99p bids each time. Just one left to finish which is for a top. P will now have a brown pair, a blue pair and a denim pair of jojo maman bebe trousers for a total of £10. New in the shop it would be more like £45. I just hope they fit. I guess I can always sell them on if they are hopeless.

Poppy I felt like a bit of a wuss about the creche especially as loads of people on this thread have been using nurseries for months. I did literally drop him off and go to the class, and he wandered in without a backward glance. I am lucky though that P isn't clingy. Some of my RL friends' babies wail if Mummy walks into the next room. It would certainly have been much harder for me if this was the case. I may not have done it at all.

Thanks for the dress help. I am getting lots of good advice, although not sure I would wear gladiator sandals to a wedding. Part of me thinks I should unearth a pink tweedy suit that is about four years old. Most of me though wants something pretty and new

DebInAustria · 13/09/2009 20:23

Ali - I am of your ebay successes, ebay here is rubbish and postage from UK makes it too expensive. At the moment Ethan needs a new winter wardrobe , going to cost me so much more than in the UK. Usually Tristan gets the hand me downs but of course I hadn't kept anything from Tristan!I'm considering Next online as even that is cheaper than most of the children's clothes here and they'll deliver to Austria for 5 Euros which is good.

You should definitely have something new for the wedding and it should be a dress to celebrate the end of BF!I'm already planning some new underwear!

ktpie · 13/09/2009 20:26

Abdn - hope it goes well with the specialist and that you get some questions answered. My cousin had the same thing and the op went fine.

Debs - the ice cream was easy, the machine is one of these my Mum had picked up second hand somewhere. It was just a matter of putting milk, raspberries, a dash of lemon juice, sugar and whipping cream in a blender then pouring it into the machine, it made lovely soft ice cream but possibly not that healthy! Main problem is fitting the base part in the freezer for 24 hours beforehand.

I cut J's hair today, he kept trying to turn round and see what I was doing, he looks funny and grown up with short hair and I'm not sure it is very even but hoping the curls will disguise that!

Ali - well done on the ebaying!

Hi to everyone else!

abdnhiker · 13/09/2009 20:34

neenz thanks for reminding me that E had the same surgery. It's really nice to hear from someone who's been through it! I can remember she had surgery but I'd forgotten what for and part of me can't stop thinking of this as a boy problem since for us it appears as a lump in the scrotum/groin area and we originally worried it might have been a swollen testicle.

DebInAustria · 13/09/2009 20:48

Ali - where are you planning for your holiday?
