evening all.
sophietom, i too am wistful of the days when there was just one, sigh. saying that, I've got DD1&2 in nursery 2 days a week so I'm able to get one to one time with Harper. even though I only have one child those days, i get less done it seems because I'm just cuddling with baby!

Harper had her 2nd immunisations and did very well - cried for a moment then smiled at the nurse. tonight we were supposed to put her in the guest bedroom (she's still in the moses basket) by herself but I'm hesitant and will be sad when she moves out of our bedroom.

swaddling, like using a dummy, never appealed to any of the DD's. I really wanted a 'quick fix' solution in swaddling but Harper never went for it and just struggled her way out of my swaddling.

blotted, hope you had a good holiday and that it doesn't take too much time to unpack.

Hello all! Good holiday, blotted?

Oh, those days of sleeping until 9! Bliss! Atm, we're very grateful that DD1 is sleeping a) at all and b) past 5am! She was a dreadful sleeper until she was nearly 18 months old, and then when she finally started sleeping through she'd get up every day some time between 4 and 5 . It was hell for about 5 months.

pula - no swaddling here, we gave up trying as it was never successful. A does sleep on her front a lot though.

momino - in my defence the bread was still in the oven at 9:26! Good bread it was, I used to make my own most of the time pre-children but got out of the habit, but started again last week when I realised I had no bread and no money to buy bread one day. It's very therapeutic.

I went to see a frend today who had her DD2 a week ago...couldn't believe how much unlike a newborn A is now! That cry, the skin, and so on. We had a lovely day, was good to be out of the house, and my DD1 and her DD1 are the same age and play together really nicely (most of the time) now.

Momino · 03/08/2009 22:25

flippin, hot, homemade bread... yummy.

re: newborn - i'm so sad that the newborn stage is over. yes, i'm happy for our LO's to be growing, developing personalities, etc. but I've really enjoyed the newborn phase of H's life.

oh, yes. I'm broody. but only because DH has had the snip and we can't have anymore (feel too old anyway). Iknow it was the right decision - the snip - but still allowed to feel wistful .

blotted hope you had a great holiday.

frazz lovely to 'see' you! Your H would dwarf mine, he's only just into 3-6m sleepsuits!

swaddling H was a bit of a Houdini & wriggled his little arms out of the tightest swaddle. We gave up after a few weeks, when he was big enough for sleeping bags.

Well I tried H with a bit of formula this evening (as I was struggling to express) to see if he liked it. Wasn't a great success. I'm pretty sure it was the bottle that was the problem, not the formula. He's had bottles before but the last time was quite a while ago - maybe he has lost the knack? I'll try again tomorrow with EBM if I can get any. If not, then I think there should only be about 2 hours when I can't feed him so we'll have to work around that.

flippineck · 03/08/2009 22:31

My friend was laughing at me today for being broody!! I love being pregnant and having babies. Don't feel like I'm much cop at managing a family though!

Momino · 03/08/2009 22:37

flippin, bet you're a great family manager .

I didn't like being pregnant this last time. i really felt my age this time, like in my joints (hips), lack of energy, back, etc. I don't think I could do it again physically. but I'd love another baby if I didn't have to go through all that again.

speaking of lack of energy, i think it's time for bed. good night all.

Good morning folks. I've eaten my muesli and am drinking a lovley cup of tea. Been awake since 5.30 when R woke me for a feed. She went straight back down and I got up at 6.30 after tossing and turning for an hour.

Swaddling We don't bother any more. R sleeps so well without it we haven't bothered for at least a month. It was brilliant for settling her first off at night for a couple of weeks. She wouldn't get her feet in it anyway now. R is 11 weeks, and hasn't had the moro reflex for ages now. Ages.....She is less than 3 months old and I can't imagine not having her.

Got the weaning leaflet in the post from the HV yesterday. She hasn't even reached the half way point (13 weeks) and they're telling me about weaning. 15 weeks to file it away and loose it. Don't think I need 15 weeks to prepare ..........nothing because she will be fed what the others are being fed.

Momino · 04/08/2009 07:11

last one on/first one on (unless someone's cross-posting right now!).

Harper seems 'normal' after yesterday's jabs and slept her usual, maybe waking up a bit earlier. She's now asleep again next to me with little hands up around her ears, head turned to the side... you know the position. very cute.

dd1&2 still in bed, i should be getting dressed but am sipping my coffee, listening to cbeebies on radio 7 and perusing MN and FB. i'm so lazy. should have had a couple of loaves in the oven by now .

does anyone wake up in the morning, think 'what should we do today', and really contemplate doing nothing but staying home to play? I know I'll feel better when we get out but it's so tempting to do nothing.

hope you are all well rested and have more energy and motivation than I do .

Momino · 04/08/2009 07:13

hah! I knew I'd xpost! good morning Jennster.

Momino · 04/08/2009 07:14

Fi, xposted you as well. i'm secretly hoping it rains so I have an excuse to stay in.

flippineck · 04/08/2009 07:24

Morning!

It's just been raining here too, but looks like it might brighten up...was also half hoping for a good excuse not to go out. We've been invited to a (sort-of) friend's house for coffee. I like her, but DD1 isn't overly fond of some of the other children who are sometimes there - DD1 is quite quiet and gets a bit overwhelmed in large noisy groups of children if she doesn't know them all that well, and turns into velcro toddler.

A is just waking up - first time since 9:30 last night!!! DD1 was up at 5:45 this morning though, I really do miss DH! No *bread making this morning though, can't be bothered with that every day!

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 07:33

wow three of us cross posting glad h's jabs went ok... g's not getting her 1st lot till the 31st.. OMG that was friday i missed it.. can't believe i did that.. ARRRGH will have to phone doc's today

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 07:56

been having a cry about forgetting g's jabs.. feeling v bad mummy now.. useless at remembering stuff I even put the card on the fridge door!

Reggiee · 04/08/2009 08:20

Aww Fi it's so easily done with a million and one other things to do. Have you got a calendar at home with space to write things? I have a diary but it does involve me having to a) remember to write things in, and b) look at it. Every Sunday I am now in a habit of looking at it for the week ahead and check with dh what his plans are (I am his PA seemingly - I tell him "if it ain't in my diary he ain't doing it!"). My memory used to be really ridiculously sharp and could remember random information such as what I did this week last year, until I had dc.

Momi I do indeed have to stay in today to MN play. Am awaiting a courier - unknown arrival time, and I really don't like being stuck in the house. Not raining yet but looks bleak.

I have had the most annoying chesty cough / sore throat for a week now. Dd has also got it - it is just annoying. Especially as I wash my hands in boiling water and soap after each nose blow and consequently have hideous old lady hands.

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 08:29

reggie it was in my diary too.. i just forgot to look at it and hadn't twigged that friday was the 31st until now! :-(

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 08:42

just phoned doc's.. the nurse that does the jabs is now on holiday for 2wks so will have to wait for next jabs clinic on the 21st

runningmonkey · 04/08/2009 09:10

Morning,

Ok so who swapped my baby for one that will sleep on their own Had a good night, A went 3.5 hours between feeds in our bed last night. Woke at 6 and had a little feed then played for an hour and we got dressed. Fed again at 8, fell asleep with a mouthful of milk which dribbled everywhere, I put her in the carrycot at 8.20 and she is still asleep in there. Its not much but it is a massive breakthrough!

fi I know how you feel, I feel absolutely awful if I forget something like that but try not to beat yourself up about it as it happens to the best of us. I'm another who mourns their loss of memory, now I can't remember anything unless it is written down on the calendar!

swaddling we didn't bother after a few attempts as A just wriggled free or fought us off every time we tried from week one, she is another who likes sleeping with arms above her head and somewhat bizarrely she likes having her legs up and crossed buddha style!

Hey blotted hope you had a nice time, have been meaning to post on your fb to say I love your hair colour, tis gorgeous!

Just waiting in for my Mum to arrive for a few days, then off out to baby clinic for weighing and first jabs. Am really excited about tomorrow as Mum is going to babysit while I get my hair cut, am going for a bit of a change I think as I'm sick of just wearing my hair in a ponytail all the time as its too long.

Grey grey grey here so think I'll be driving round to the drs.

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 09:11

still torrential rain.. need to occupy ds so just taken some butter out of the fridge.. he loves baking :-) what shall we make? cake? muffins? biscuits? suggestions anyone?

ReeBee · 04/08/2009 09:26

hi everyone

running, glad to hear that A is making such good progress - you should feel loads more confident about your holiday now.

Momino, I quite often think that I can't be bothered to go out. My rationale is that I'm up every night still, most of the time I'm rushing around sorting out baby and house and DH, and socialising, so a couple of days a week I'm entitled to do precisely beggar all! Sometimes it's nice to sit and reflect.

swaddling, think we tried it once and F let us know in no uncertain terms that it was a gross infringement of his human rights. We didn't do it again. He also sleeps in the 'surrendered' position.

Had a great day yesterday, bought a Coast dress for £29 (!!!) for my mum and dad's vow renewal in a couple of weeks. It's their 40th wedding anniversary, bless them, and I needed something nice but am hoping I will never be fat enough to wear it again iyswim.

Also met friends for lunch and had a fab time. Plus went to the doctor re F's eye (again, sigh) and now have eye drops. The doctor we saw actually said he would never have prescribed the oral abx anyway, had we seen him originally. Marvellous. He also said he thinks F's tear duct is blocked so he might be a 'frequent visitor'.

OK, have a couple of hours free to sort out household accounts before meeting a friend for lunch. Am not speaking to DH because he is an arse. Not worth explaining really, plus am not especially upset, I just think he's a knob fool. Alcohol related, naturally.

ReeBee · 04/08/2009 09:28

Fi, I vote for biscuits. I do keep meaning to make white chocolate and raspberry cookies but as I mentioned on the weight loss thread I'm too worried I would eat them all!

runningmonkey · 04/08/2009 09:47

Ooh another vote for biccies here too!

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 09:49

reebee great coast bargain :-) you can always ebay it when it's too big.. and i'm sure it will be.

i was thinking biscuits too.. ds has some number and letter cutters which we've not had a chance to use yet. he can then have fun icing them too..

FiKelly · 04/08/2009 11:35

meant to say reebee they thought ds had a blocked duct when he was born as one of his eyes was crusty for ages.. after eventually getting eye drops it cleared up and the duct was fine!
