gemmacI also woudn't worry about what time you put them down. DS1's bedtime was v late or DH wouldn't get to see him. With DS2 it is entirely different as he is soo overtired , that he has to be asleep by 6.30 or else he screams the place down for a while.

LTJ Naps all over the place too, glad I am not the only one. Follow the same general rule that about 1.5hrs after waking he gets tired evidenced by being v fidgety and a yawn, (but this depends on how long a sleep he had beforehand, if he only managed a short nap then it sometimes is an hour). He generally has 45mins after about 1.5hrs of waking and the rest of the day really varies as it also depends on what DS1 is doing, he only sleeps for a max of 45mins in his cot, but can do easily a few hours in his pram (if he is pushed about for longer than 45mins), I just play it as it comes really.

quixotic Nope not done the deed here, and thankfully no pressure from DH yet... we are both too knackered. Wedding anniversary this week, but doubt we will get anywhere close

josiejo79 · 20/10/2009 19:35

Quixotic we haven't either, also a bit concerned that it is going to be painful. I also agree that at the moment i would also rather have a nap!

gemmac my little one seems to think that bedtime is at 10pm regardless of having a bsth, lullabies, cuddles etc so &pm is early un our books and a dream that i hope will become routine eventually.

LTJ my ds tends to nap at about 11ish for about 20mins, ans sometimes in the afternoon, but mostly only naps if he is having a cuddle or in the car or being pushed in his pram for more than an hour.

Forester · 20/10/2009 20:19

we have a late (i would use the word routine but that's too strong a term!). i aim to get dd down for the night at c 10pm - though it's normally later by the time i can get her to settle) so that i can go to bed straight after. she then typically wakes about 4am - so in theory i've been ab le to get a decent stretch of sleep.

does this make me a bad mum ?

fruitymum · 20/10/2009 20:28

hi all, well Scott had his first jabs last Tues - he's been a bit "off' with poos after every feed --aah but the smiles, chuckles and cuddles make up for it . He is on his play mat ar the mo - I try to get him started with bedtime routine a bit after 9 then he will sleep through to 3ish and 5ish on 2 occasions.
RE THE ACT - yes have done it once - not sore in fact rather nice but sleep is a premium...

CoonRapids · 21/10/2009 10:36

Hello - just checking in. DD (my nearly 3 yo) has chicken pox I think. Slight temp the last couple days which initially put down to the fact she has a cold and cough. But since yesterday there have been a few spots. Not covered yet though. She is miserable, every little thing is a crisis and am worried about baby catching it! Not to mention having to stay home

kitkatcadaverqueen · 21/10/2009 18:04

Hi everybody LOL at "hide the sausage" question, Yes for the last 6 weeks, no not painful. Just go slow to start. and don't forget you are very fertile right now!!!!

Now theres tmi for you.

gemmac1 · 22/10/2009 08:46

Quixotic-we only get the long gap inbetween feeds at night because dd has a bottle for hrt bedtime/night feeds???? I only bf during the day.

"hide the sausage" question? sounds 'interesting'

CoonRapids · 22/10/2009 11:09

hi - ok so hopefully no surprise pgs just yet What is everyone doing about contraception? I'm considering a mirena coil.

gemmac1 · 22/10/2009 14:14

Coonrapids-Ive been for my postnatal check up today and have been given a pescription for the mini pill, its my only option really as dont fancy the idea of a coil or inplant.

Have also had it confirmed by my health visitor at baby clinic this morning that my poor little dd is tongue tied!!! I am quite annoyed about this though as it wasnt picked up by any of the healthcare proffesionals that have seen her, it was only due to me noticing it and bringing it to their attention that it has been diagnosed ( if thats the right word???).

Has anybody any experience of this? My health visitor has told me that we will have to keep raising the issue with our GP as they tend not to do anything about it, and if they do only once your child is 2 and speech problems have been detected.

Personally I would prefer her to have it done asap before she remembers having it done (hhmm)

YanknHeadsOffCocks · 22/10/2009 20:57

Hey everyone! I've been so busy the last few weeks, I've hardly been on mumsnet at all.

My little guy is staying quite small, hovering around the 9th centile despite being 8lb 6oz at birth. He is 8.5 weeks now and only weighs 9lb 7oz as of today. HV isn't worried and is very encouraging.

Birth control--we're using condoms. I have PCOS and don't want to do anything hormonal because it took me ages to learn what was 'normal' for me as far as cycles. We'll probably try for another one fairly soon since I'm already 33 and it took over a year and 1 miscarriage to have this baby.

DS had his first jabs yesterday and was very unsettled all day. He smiled at the nurse before the jabs, then wouldn't smile the rest of the day until daddy came home! He's been feeding loads recently, and I suspect he's got a stomach bug from DH, who we think might have had food poisoning (was throwing up and had diarrhoea). HV saw DS's poo today and said it was very watery (more than usual for a BF baby), so she reckons he did catch something. He seems fairly content otherwise.

Will come back and read through all the posts soon! Nice to see you all again....

quixotic · 23/10/2009 11:07

My gosh mama2leah - 12 weeks???? Very scary. Am also considering the coil Coonrapids, but my GP do not do it so will have to go to a family planning clinic - dont really fancy it but I suppose they are the experts.
Welcome back Yank!

fairygirl3 · 24/10/2009 21:20

Yank-thats good your health visitor is encouraging ,you hear so much of poor weight gaining babies & their mums being told to put them on formula.
mama2leah-wow thats a small gap but bet it will be lovely when they are older, have 22 months between my oldest two and its great, hadnt wanted such a big age gap between ds2&dd2 but took this long to persuade dh.

Have had a busy week took dd for her immunisations a week last wednesday the night before she had a bit of a temperature told nurse this & she said well her hands feel cold to me,i thought umm but kept quiet.Anyway for the next few days she kept getting hot but wouldnt last more than an hour or two at a time, thinking it was just a side effect of the injections let it go on for a few days was then getting a bit miserable and found she had cut her first tooth.By monday was looking a bit worse so took her to GP who sent us to the hospital child assesment unit who diagnosed a urine infection, had to stay in 3 nights with IV anti biotics & kidney scan for damage as UTIs are much more serious in little ones. They also found she has a duplex kidney so is more likely to have more infections if she does she will then have further tests.I felt quite guilty as she had been ill for 5 days before took her to GPs but they said they sometimes dont even show any symptoms,i just put it down to injections/teething as she wasnt bad.Dont think i have caught up with my sleep yet as where she has is very unsettled at night i ended up pacing the corridors for hours,am sure i looked a right state.

kitkatcadaverqueen · 24/10/2009 21:55

fairy,

Do not feel guilty! My dd2 is 4 and has just come off trimeth for the 1st time since she was 14 weeks old. Lots of people don't spot reflux/duplex conditions until much later. You knew somthing was wrong and you got her seen. Most babies with this are really bad by the time they get seen. Watch like a hawk for crying when weeing as this can be an indicator for you to call the gp and get her wee tested. When dd was v little I used the nappies from lidl with the colour change strip so I could tell really easily if she had wee'd.

I also asked the gp for dipsticks to use at home so I could keep an eye on things.

Well done for spotting that something was wrong.

fairygirl3 · 25/10/2009 13:58

thanks kitkat, thats funny you saying that about the crying when weeing because she had been having lots of little crys i had put it down to wind but now i know better will keep a look out.I hadnt realised how bad utis were for babies. Is your dd ok now ? how many infections did she have before they diagnosed reflux ? at the moment they did the scan & it showed no kidney damage & said if she had another infection they would do the dye test to for reflux.

kitkatcadaverqueen · 25/10/2009 18:36

Fairy, I can honestly say you are extremely lucky in the care your dd is receiving.

I had to fight to get my daughter tested, at 1st they didn't eve believe she had a wee infection saying she couldn't have a wee infection because she wasn't sick enough.

After probably about 5 uti's in about 7 weeks I demanded they test her for reflux. Several people in my family had suffered from it so I was well aware of the possibility. I was told that the test (micturating cystogram (sp?)) was not a nice thing to have to have done to a baby. He threatened me with social services investigating my desire to have a child put through the test and asked me if I knew what munchausen by proxy was. I told him to go ahead with ss yes I do know what munchausens is and I also know the number for my solicitor and will sue him personally if he refused to refer my daughter.

My daughter was referred (funny that). She had grade 2 reflux on her left kidney but because she had been on the trimeth throughout she had avoided kidney scarring and she literally came of he trimeth this week after her mag3 test showed no further reflux. She's fine just keep watching your dd and trust your instincts...

CoonRapids · 27/10/2009 22:01

Hello all - I reckon I need to improve bedtimes here in the house of chaos! At the moment there is no predictability to it and it's not going great for the older two (nearly 3 and 5) who are taking advantage and pushing the boundaries.

Trouble is that bedtime routine depends on what baby is doing re feeds/sleeps and what time dh arrives home (which can be before, during bedtime routine or after they've gone to bed).

Sometimes they have a bath, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they do everything together at the same time, sometimes I fast track the little one cos she's the most tired and leave the older one until after...Sometimes they have stories upstairs, sometimes downstairs. It's such a muddle and ends up with one or other or both having a tantrum!

Any tips other than muddle through?!

cairns · 28/10/2009 13:07

Hello all, wow it is mighty quiet on here, all must be enjoying this lovely 1st stage. Things are going well here with DS2, I just feel guilty I am not spending a lot of time with him with DS1 demanding attention. DS1 still hasn;t worked out that the clocks have changed, so 5am wake-ups every day this week so far as well as night feeds, despite me desparately shifting his body clock.

We have our 1st halloween party on Saturday and we will be sculpting our pumpkin tomorrow... getting quite excited

Coonrapids don't know if this helps (but I have only got 2), although I don't have much help for bedtime as DS very rarely makes it home in time for bedtime. But I find it a lot easier if I get both in the bath v early just after tea (about 5.30), DS2 just has a quick bath and then I change and getting him ready while DS1 is splashing away. Then its all out of the bath and I get DS1 dressed. Then the older DS plays while I feed/settle to sleep DS2. Once he is down then DS2 has stories, milk and clean teeth until bedtime. If DH makes it home in time then he can read the stories, but I always assume he won't. Doesn't always work out, and DS2 often has a scream after the bath as he is soo overtired, but I do find it a lot easier to do the bath as early as I can.

CoonRapids · 28/10/2009 19:33

Ooh pumpkin carving, must get one!!

Thanks Cairns that does help on the bedtime thing. Start early is a good plan. Today I wrote down a list of all the things they had to get done before bed and gave them a smiley face if they completed each stage without fussing. That went really well and they were both in bed by 6.45pm (earlier bedtime than usual as they're both getting over chickenpox still).

We have the clocks going back issue too. They're getting up so early and by 9am feel like have done the whole morning.

I have acquired a 2nd hand connecta sling now and it is way more comfy than the Bjorn! I love it. Only problem is that it's pink so doesn't look like dh will do any of the slinging!!

mama2leah · 29/10/2009 10:18

jus a quick hiya all..havent read the post...aaishah was up from 11pm-7am every hour for a feed...

im hoping growth spurt...

love to los*

ScummyMummy · 30/10/2009 10:53

Hi everyone.

That sounds like a good result on the bedtime routine, CR.

We've been having slightly tough times with the bairn. Discovered at her 8 week check that she had catapulted down the weight centiles and then, via various breast feeding advisers and hospital appointments that this is almost certainly due to the fact that she had a "severe tongue tie." Cue desperate expressing and feeding of ebm in bottles to prevent further weight problems until we could get it sorted- v stressful.

She finally had it snipped on Tuesday. Feeling v guilty that we didn't spot the problem till so late on and also a bit cross that no one else did- she was way way older than any of the other babies at the tongue tie clinic. Still, it did work to our advantage in one small way as she fixed the consultant with a big grin and he called her in first! None of the other babies were old enough to smile.

Anyway, I'm treating her like a newborn again when it comes to feeding and trying to get milk into her every hour and a half or so- have stopped the ebm top ups for the moment as I'm worried that the faster flow from a bottle will make her stop taking milk from the breast at all as she sort of needs to relearn the whole process. Will reintroduce bottles of ebm later. She does seem to be feeding a bit better and to be less fussy at the breast so am hopeful we will come through ok. I was convinced that breastfeeding was over for us at one point though and my feelings of despair and inadequacy at that really took me by surprise...

BabyBump2B · 30/10/2009 19:03

Hi All!

I'm dipping my toe back in after being absent for so long! How are you all?

We had the inlaws here for a month which was NOT a great thing and then have spent Oct in a massive catch up whirlwind trying to catch up with every one and every thing that got put off while they were here!

Just starting to get back to normal!

Am at people who's kids have bedtimes already! We cluster feed from 6ish - 10ish and then usually wake around 3 and then 5:30.

And as far as doing the deed - we have once - and it was uncomfortable/slightly painful but it turns out I'm having some issues with healing. We tried again yesterday and it was a definite no-go so I need to talk to the Dr... I'm was thinking I was the only person who wasn't yet regularly (no pressure from DH to be fair) so its good to come back and see others in the same boat!

Looking forward to catching up!

Uki · 03/11/2009 05:49

Hi again

babybump -Hi

scrummy- Hope bub puts some weight back on soon.

can't reply to much as not caught up properly.

I can relate to the hard bedtimes, although it's not so much bedtimes it's ALLDAY trying to cope with 3 dc's

The baby is the easy one, especially at the moment as 4 year old ds has been really sick with vomiting bug, up every hour at night. dh and i were so grumpy due to lack of sleep for 2 nights and today, ds2 has come down too, oh boy!!!

sometimes i think where did i get 3 children from? IYKWIM

baby Monae is smiling loads now, she was very slow to offer up any, so that's been a relief.

what's happening with other babies????

BabyBump2B · 03/11/2009 18:21

We're going for our first shots today and am so anxious. Anyone have any advice?
