9.5 months and bumble has just started sleeping better, and this week has slept till 6am most nights with a couple of 4ams...but shhhhhhh I don't want to jinx it.

I hope you're taking it easy today Norty.

I'm supposed to be going to Dalby Forest tomorrow to meet my sister and family who are on holiday near Pickering. I can't see it happening though, not with this still going on. We've also got some old uni frioends of mine coming on Sunday, but they said they would stop in a hotel rather than here....thank goodness! I won't be much company though; they are soming for dinner so I'll be sitting there, ready to sprint to the loo with my diarolyte while they all eat a nice roast dinner!

Daisy

I am no GP but believe me when I say I know the shits, having had campylobacter, dysentry, giardia and various bouts of gastro while travelling.

You NEED antibiotics if it has gone on for this long.

Typically if it like that for 48 hours or more you need it checked out.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/08/2009 14:30

I spoke to another GP at the practice and he is writing me a prescription for immodium and I've to do a stool sample. He said it certainly sounds like food poisoning and wants to check for campylobacter. He said they wouldn't routinely treat with antibiotics though without a firm diagnosis. I just hope that they will be able to get the sample to the lab today!

sorry I'm such a moaning minnie about this

OP posts:
Sputnik · 21/08/2009 15:14

It sounds awful Daisy, moan away.
Sorry, not been about much lately, been back and forth to the new house, building wardrobes etc. I am thinking of applying for a job as an ikea furniture assembler, I find it quite a zen-like experience (there's something wrong with me isn't there ).
Perhaps it's simply that it's a job that stays done once you've finished, unlike loading the dishwasher and other drudgery-like tasks.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/08/2009 15:25

not my IKEA furniture building Sputnik, as I realise a bit is on upside down and I have to take it all apart and start again

OP posts:
Sputnik · 21/08/2009 15:30

True, I nailed the back onto a wardrobe the wrong way round yesterday, argh. I blame the heat.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 21/08/2009 16:01

immodium is shit.
Excuse the pun.

They shouldn't be prescribing you something to keep it in if it wants to be OUT.

But a sample will tell.

How ridiculous of the GP's.

When I had dysentry I needed medical help and quickly - I WOULD NOT have been pleased if they'd put it down to a sodding bug and given me sodding immodium.
If it goes on for more than 48 hours and is a bit...'violent'.... they should be checking stool samples, end of.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 21/08/2009 16:03

There is a mother and baby cinema near me on wednesday mornings.

That will help get over the boredness and loneliness.

There are SOOOOO many things I could be doing but alas I am still a c section cripple.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 21/08/2009 17:29

I agree that prescribing immodium seems a bit odd. I've used it as a precaution when things are mostly better and I've needed to get out & about, or to do a long car journey, but I wouldn't be happy taking it as treatment when things are bad. Pain as it is I think you just have to let the body clear it out, and stick to just plain water (or rehydration fluid) for a bit (assuming you can stomach that). I agree that tests should be done, and that it's necssary to keep fluid intake going of course. Of course I fully appreciate it's easy for me to say that sitting here, without 3 children to look after!

RIAlityBites · 21/08/2009 18:09

daisy.

hi sputnik and fairy (and damned of child-free weekend) DH is sleeping with DS1&2 in the tent in the garden tonight

I was really pissed off last time we went to Dalby Forest TBH, it really felt like the priority was to mountain bikers and walkers didn't matter.

am a bit narked with Dsis again. Took the boys into town (DH dropped us off when he went to work, couldn't face driving today). It was hard work, and I couldn't get to the shop I wanted to go to cos the lift was broken and I needed to be upstairs.

RIAlityBites · 21/08/2009 18:23

daisy, what were those night-time pants you got for DS1 called?

LackaDAISYcal · 21/08/2009 18:28

Stool sample is in so we'll see what that brings.

I feel a lot better again, but it looks like it's going to go in waves now. Still, at least I'm getting a little better. I even ate a little risotto for tea. Another good sleep and hopefully thing's will be better again in the morning.

I'm seriously worried about my milk supply though as bumble is getting really frustrated at the boob and I can't feel my let down as much as I usually can and his nappy seemed really dry earlier though it had been on all afternoon. I hope he is getting enough.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/08/2009 18:30

They're huggies pyjama pants Ria, and they come in age 4-7 and 8-11. They do ones that look like shorts but they leak.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 21/08/2009 19:07

Glad you're feeling rather better Daisy. These things can take a while to fully clear up, and I remember having episodes on and off for a few days after I'd started to clear up so be warned! And do totally ignore me and my rantings earlier !

We went to play at a friend's house this afternoon and Jamlet had mad screaming fits because she wanted to play with other girl's toy push chair and not share it! I even amde her stand in the "naughty corner" for a few moments (more to give me a time out than anything) and got the feeling friend didn't really do or approve of the naughty corner/step .

LackaDAISYcal · 21/08/2009 19:29

no worried Jammy, those are my feelings about immodium as well and that if things need to be out, then the sooner they clear your system the better!

I may take some when we have our visitors over the weekend, to avoid any embarrasing "ashamed of your loo" moments, or of we go out to the park tomorrow afternoon.

I'm having a bot of a crisis of confidence where BFing is concerned though. I made up a 5oz bottle and bumble wolfed it down after getting really annoyed at the boob. I'm worried about starving him, but also that giving him a bottle is going to affect my supply even more than it might already be affected....aaargh

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 21/08/2009 19:31

oh, and don't worry about the friend; your DC your rules and all that, and if time out gives you both a chance to gather your thoughts then why not? DD got sent to the step today for thumping DS1 after fighting with him over his guns which she wanted but he wouldn't let go.

Must admit though, never thought I'd hear myself say "No, DD, give DS1 back his magnum and play with your AK-47 instead" .

MakkaPakkasWilly · 21/08/2009 19:39

Daisy - I have been searching for this drug for you:
Nifuroxazide

see if you can get it, it's a very mild and gentle antibiotic

If you are desperate it's marketed as 'antinal' in Egypt ... you can get it online

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 21/08/2009 19:48

LOL (which is rare for me!) about the AK47 comment!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 21/08/2009 19:49

And do you have a pump? Can you try expressing to stimulate supply? I know it's a pain but might be worth a try after DCs in bed?

LittleMissNorty · 21/08/2009 20:04

Hello

Glad things are a bit better Daisy.

We went shopping this afternoon and DD was a total PITA again. I pulled her to one side in a shop at threatened her through gritted teeth about what would happen if she carried on....took me right back to my childhood it did...made me feel like a proper mum . I'm so glad they are in bed!

Flat sounds great Sputnik! Have you done the IKEA kitchen yet?

Shame about a c-section cripple Fury....I was also fine after 3 weeks like Daisy. The elective one was even quicker recovery. My insurance company also said the same about emergency stops - same with gall bladder op (although for me it was 2 days this week!) Won't be long though and you'll be back to normal.

I spent half an hour today filling a basket in the new 99p shop that has opened up in our old Woolworths shop....only to find after they had put it through the till that their credit card machines had "technical difficulties" (yeah right!) and it was cash only . Bollocks to that....so I just walked out. I don't carry cash. Wonder how much of today's takings go through the books.....

shit - sorry!

Sputnik · 21/08/2009 20:58

LOL at the AK-47 row.
When I was in Albania we rented a house belonging to a family that left all their posessions there. When I got out the photo albums, because I am a nosy bugger, I was quite shocked by the photos of their 9 year old posing with a kalashnikov.

Kitchen is still a work in progress, we are getting there but I really wish we had paid the extra to get it installed by them, as DH has spent his entire time on that while I did everything else (painting, other furniture etc).

RIAlityBites · 21/08/2009 21:21

am in awe that you know the difference between the guns daisy. I did have to let baggins hold the cyberman in the shops today, but that's not quite the same!

baggins seems to think he's going to sleep in the tent too

I went in the shop that opened in our WWs today. It was hell, piles of stuff everywhere and aisles I couldn't get the buggy down.

RIAlityBites · 22/08/2009 12:40

may I just say.

Oh fuck!

DS1 had the rabbit and G-pig out for a run round the garen. He hs gone out on his bike with a kid from school (who he doesn't actually like). He has left the animals running round the garden (actually they are currently hiding under the hedge behind the gooseberry bushes) Hope he gets home to catch them before they get eaten
