Good morning everyone!

DH is just going to collect our babydan playpen!!! we have brought it second hand locally for £40 so a bit of a bargain methinks! I am just hoping both babies can fit in it at the same time....

Ju/gui good luck at the paeds I am sure it will all go fine. Are you popping in to see everyone?

Izzie has appt with opthamologist soon because i think she has a lazy eye. But as soon as I got the appointment through I noticed that Ollie has pupils which are different sizes in dim light. so eugghh probably gonna have to go through the whole gp referral rigmoral again to get him sorted. Unless i wait for there paed follow up appointment which is end of sept and mention it there. What do you guys think? Has anyone had any experience with different size pupils before (i and i dont mean if you are a teacher!) sorry sad joke.

I am supposed be attempting to do a KIT day tomorrow (has anyone else done one of these) They are a Keeping in touch with work day. where you basically go in for a day and you can get paid but it doesnt end your maternity leave? ( i am actually not sure i can be arsed to now!)

kazkiss · 26/08/2009 10:33

sorry fei x post. DH being a donut sounds just like something my dh would do. (has gone to work with our pram before and the car key to both cars so i was trapped in the house!)

brettgirl2 · 26/08/2009 10:43

Kaz my friend's baby has different sized pupils. She got referred by GP to a pead and apparently there is a tiny chance that it could be some syndrome or another (the GP had apparently never seen it before ). They test for it by checking all the baby's reflexes and they have to be a certain age to be able to do this. My friend's baby (also an april one) seemed OK when paed saw her but she has to go back because she was too young for all the tests. I think she goes back in November or something. She has been told though that the chances are very strongly that it is probably absolutely nothing. So please don't worry and I'm sure leaving it till then will be fine.

My DH once went to work 50 miles away and took my car keys

Puzzle did holly also make noises a bit like Maria Sharapova when she was trying to crawl????

PuzzleRocks · 26/08/2009 10:54

WFH - Yes, I suppose it stands to reason that they will be more dextrous earlier. I should have realised that.

Hi JJ.

Brett - She does indeed. Most indelicate.

brettgirl2 · 26/08/2009 11:00

Actually I've just re-read my post and realised before I sound too definite I don't know whethr it was a paed or an eye person she was referred to.

BoffinMum · 26/08/2009 11:00

Feier, if you think that's bad, I walked off somewhere the other day with DS1 and DS2, completely forgetting I had a baby, leaving him in the cot asleep until DH shouted out the window I was missing a child. However I left DD in a clothes shop once and walked half way home before remembering what I had done when she was four weeks old, so I do have form.

brettgirl2 · 26/08/2009 11:05

Boffin I'm always double checking that I remembered to put the car seat in. It's easy to do I think

Feierabend · 26/08/2009 11:09

LOL Boff and Brett! DH has tried to leave the house without Hazel too - there she was sitting in her car seat waiting to be picked up and put into the car. The look on her face!

I'd love to watch your little ones trying to crawl, Puzzle and Brett, sounds really sweet!

kazkiss · 26/08/2009 11:30

Thanks for the info. I have been doing the unthinkable and googling and chances are it is just a thing called aniscorea which is just a harmless thing. There is a condition called horners syndrome but i dont think it is that because he doesnt have any of the other syptoms at all. It is just in dim light it is noticable and he seems to see very well. I.e. notices if you smile at him from across the room etc.

Oh well. I think i will wait as paed apointment is before the eye appointment for izzie anyhow.

My playpen is up! it looks really good. and quite big (we are going to have no living room left soon!

Feierabend · 26/08/2009 13:50

Have just had half a bar of Ritter Sport chocolate... and really fancy the other half...

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/08/2009 14:23

Do it, Feierabend. You know you want to.

(the irony of chocolate being called anything 'Sport' - I mean really! )

Feierabend · 26/08/2009 14:24

One of my first boyfriends (when I was about 6 years old ) - his dad worked at the Ritter Sport factory. In fact he may have even been in the upper management. Anyway, at his birthday parties there was always a lot of chocolate!

AuldAlliance · 26/08/2009 14:30

Ooh, chocolate.
I weighed myself last night and am below my pre-PG weight, so felt authorised to eat LOTS of ice cream.

Boff, I have good news and bad.
The good: I have found chocolate olives in the supermarket, and a supply of emergency rations will be winging its way to you once I get to the PO (so don't get over excited, that may not be until after DS1 goes back to school... but they are in the pipeline).

The bad: I tried the Lansinoh bag this morning and it leaked!!! There was a wee hole in the bottom and my precious milk seeped out...is this common, or should I put it down to travel damage?

Yippee! A storm!!!! Not that I love them, but it should freshen the atmosphere.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/08/2009 14:38

Auld - in haste as am off to doc's but I've used Lansinoh bags for both babies and they've never leaked, so I would put it down to a duff bag or travel damage. HTH

Feierabend · 26/08/2009 16:21
Blush
Feierabend · 26/08/2009 16:21

After what I said about DH this morning, I left the buggy out in the rain... without the rain cover on...

Feierabend · 26/08/2009 16:22

But at least none of my daughters was in it!

Guimauve · 26/08/2009 18:31

Well, the conclusion from the paed was 'he needs more milk' He gave him a thorough check over and said he was perfectly healthy, no organic cause etc, but he needs to have more milk. He put on 1oz in the last week, so is still way below the bottom line. His length has dropped again from the 50th to the 25th. So, I am of course overjoyed that there is no underlying illness. But I know feel like absolute crap because a) I have been starving my baby for the last 5 months b) I can't produce enough milk to feed my child c) I clearly can't trust my instincts as a mother. Oh, and d) this is dreadfully self-indulgent, it's about him, not me.

So he's going to be having some formula. I made some up this evening (and my God what a palaver), and DH offered him the bottle after feeding from both sides. He took about half an ounce I don't know how I'll be able to fit top-ups in. I am really struggling to be okay with giving some formula. I just feel like I have let him down. I feel completely defeated.

kazkiss · 26/08/2009 19:11

oi oi oi!!! madame gui. No beating yourself up!!!!!!

You were just doing what was best for your LO. I am sooo glad there is no underlying cause and the little H is just a little greedy monkey who wants more! Maybe you should have had the name oliver instead!

Don't feel disheartened with the formula he wont be on it for long cos he will be weaning soon then he will pile on the weight.

You have given H the best start. Think of all the goodness and immunity you have given him!!

Take care hunxx

kazkiss · 26/08/2009 19:12

p.s as you can tell i am crap at the geeing up thing!!

Feierabend · 26/08/2009 19:44

Gui don't be sad. The most important thing is that little H is healthy and happy. You've been doing the best for him, he's had all that goodness from your milk, and if he'd been starving you would have known it because he wouldn't have been happy! You've done 5 months of exclusive bf, which is wonderful, and from now on he needs a bit more, which isn't at all unusual, to catch up with his growth. As Kaz has said, you would have started weaning him soon anyway so it's just happening a bit sooner. I hope he'll get used to the bottle as you might find it a bit difficult to start with. A friend of mine swears by MAM bottles because they are supposed to be similar to breast. Good luck!!!

kazkiss · 26/08/2009 19:47

Thanks Fei that was much better lol! (ju I second what fei said)

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/08/2009 19:47

Proper catch up in a bit, but Guimauve please don't beat yourself up about this. So the paed says he needs more milk - well you're doing what he says, and doing your best for H, and that's exactly what you should be doing.

Listen, if you'd been starving your baby, you'd have been whipped into hospital with very little choice about it. He's been fine, just possibly not getting as much milk as he could have been getting. And that's not necessarily because you can't make enough. Has H been demanding to feed round the clock? Because the amount you make is determined mostly by how much the baby demands, so it's not just about your body.

And you never know, the paed could be completely wrong - if H only took half an ounce of formula then he might not actually be interested in more milk. My friend's baby only really started piling on weight when he started solids - he just wasn't that interested in milk.

You're doing the absolute best you can for H, and that's all anyone can expect of you.

Here are some very un MN hugs {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 26/08/2009 19:48

And remember - not long now till you can start stuffing him with avocado. It is magic fat baby food!

BoffinMum · 26/08/2009 20:17

Auld, I reckon it's travel damage. Email me your new address and I'll send you another few if you like. Specially as the chocolate olives are on the horizon.

Gui, one of DS1's chums has always been tiny due to a small appetite - he has to have a special high cal packed lunch for school full of chocolate and so on. This only came to light when the school started its healthy eating campaign and went around confiscating the alleged contraband from the children's lunchboxes with no notice to parents (the mad school with the mad head we have just left, btw). His mum had to go in to talk sense to them. Anyway, I am trying to say fgs don't fret, you are already a bf star imo, and a bit of formula at this stage is nothing. In no time at all he will be a hulking teenager scoffing McDonalds behind your back. Can I advise giving a faster flowing teat to make life a bit easier for the little chappie???
