Yeah I have done but apart from a headache I have no other symptoms so I'm hoping that it is just a bad night. I'm back at work on Monday and don't really want to let them down as soon as I'm back. Though we work at the same place so they are probably expecting it.

SummerLightning · 20/08/2009 08:53

Sympathies Kayz, I hate not being able to sleep. Agreed on the driving. Even if it's safe enough, it won't do your confidence any good when you are that tired. Well you could see how you feel in a bit.

SummerLightning · 20/08/2009 09:22

Oh wg on the christening front, I am in a similar boat with my nephew. I am thinking of getting a nice framed picture/print that could go on his wall. Obviously won't last for ever but should for a few years. We had a nice framed print of Noah's Ark from DH's uncle for DS ,and it was a really nice gift I think.
I was also thinking about a personalized photo frame, with the name and christening date painted on.

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 10:26

Oh I have gotten out of bed on the wrong side this morning, I'm am the preverbial bear with the painful cranium. Poor DS1 has been putting up with me but the heat was taken off him because one of those Debt management companies called asking for a Mrs Nian which is always the name they use, must have had this number before us, usually I say sorry not at this number and hang up but this morning I went mental at them, esp when they guy wouldn't believe we have no debts. Anyway it ended with me speaking to the manager and telling them to remove out number and telling him he was a pariah. There was a bit more in between but basically I can now assume they will be passing this number around all the call centers and giving me an onslaught of calls.

Kayz I'm a little concerned about you, you are getting these headaches a lot, have you had your eyes tested, or do you stoop your head forward a bit with your posture. I used to get terrible headaches because I let my head stoop forward too much and it strained my neck which caused headaches.

veggie hopefully they will have put "nutty crazy lady" by your number and they won't call you any more!

Kayzr · 20/08/2009 10:51

Veggie, I have always had lots of headaches. I get my eyes tested every 6 months. The GP just says I have stress. I do tend to stoop my head forward. I must try to stop it, but the GP said it doesn't cause my headaches. I do tend to get them after a bad night sleep.

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 11:21

Well in that case I think the doctor should prescribe a weekly foot massage!

Kayzr · 20/08/2009 11:24

That would be good!! I do get one from DH every now and then.

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 11:31

SL I've have actually done this once before when we lived in London and a company kept calling about mobile phones. I won't elaborate on that conversation but at one point the guy on the phone told me I should have time to talk to him if I only had a 2 year old to look after, he had a 9 month old and said they are easy to look after. I told I pittied his wife and hung up. For the next 3 weeks we got a phone call right on the dot of 6pm, I stopped answering after the first 4 days.

Poor DS1 one though when I hung up this morning he was looking at me solumnly, and I felt really bad, he's a sensitive little thing and gets upset even by tense talking voices. I said I was sorry for him having to listen to mummy get cranky with the man on the phone. He said, 'yes mummy I didn't like it because I could hear the Tele'

I've just found a radio station called fun kids UK it's great, not all day though. Wow I am officially very sad.

OP posts:
modernlove · 20/08/2009 12:47

You're not sad Veggie. That's outrageous behavious by the mobile phone company. I remember arguing with someone on the phone who didn't believe no-one in the household hadn't been to A&E with an accident in the past 2 years. They said they had information to prove otherwise!

DS much the same here. He's asleep on the bed next to me. My mum thinks it could be teething but I wouldn't have expected a temperature so high with that.

For christenings I always tend to buy a nice hardback book and once got someone the chronicles of narnia boxset.

I didn't realise that Veggie about the colostrum at the end of BF.
I also have friends in the baby group asking how long I'll BF for but luckily no family have commented yet!

Arti - How are things with your niece?

LadyT - good luck with the Outlaws. Well done on the skydiving. That's very brave of you. It's something I always wanted to do but not sure I'm brave enough anymore.

Daisy - I was there 1995-97. It's such a small world!
I'm craving cake now after all the mentioning of it - means I'll probably go a bit mad when I do my online shop later on!

TheInvisibleHand · 20/08/2009 13:38

Arti - the Evelina is fab, do hope things are getting better for you.

Kayz - poor you. Hope you're feeling a bit better now.

Veggie - I guess at least you got to let off steam! Kids radio station sounds like more fun though.

Also thinking about BF here, as things are so different with DS than they were with DD. Basically, DD wouldn't FF (or bottle feed) but at around 9 months, having cut down and cut down, she suddenly decided she didn't fancy breast feeding either so she stopped. I remember a really stressful couple of weeks where I kept offering the breast and DD would turn away and yell. Eventually I had to accept it and though it meant she made weaning from the breast easy for me, it was a bit of a shock. I would have much preferred to keep going, especially as she wasn't getting milk any other way. DS is just 8 months and we both still enjoying it, although he also happily takes a bottle. So not really sure at all.

Was wedding anniversary yesterday, so for the first time in months DH and I managed to get out for dinner together. It was lovely - also made me realise how little real conversation we get sometimes in the mayhem of the everyday!

KiwiPanda · 20/08/2009 18:18

Arti I second that about the Evelina, DD has her regular check ups with renal consultant there and they are so lovely. The previous time we'd been she's been in hysterics for blood test because nurse couldn't find a vein - we mentioned this and the consultant did it herself last time (bet that doesn't happen often?) to accompaniment of a nurse with the most gorgeous singing voice! Mind you the nurses in the SCBU where DD was born were incredible too, I get all teary just thinking of them on christmas day (all the babies got hampers of gifts and were dressed up in christmas outfits, had their picture taken and presented their parents with cards with the pictures on, saying "Happy Christmas Mummy and Daddy love XX. SO sweet.)

DD seems MUCH happier today, and has finally decided to sit! Hoooooooray! Typical of DD, she's gone from falling straight over to sitting up completely stable for ages and ages in one go. She never does anything normally

KiwiPanda · 20/08/2009 18:20

p.s. kayz I'm normally one for drugs over natural remedies but when I was pregnant I got hooked on Origins menthol rub thing. It's not greasy like most of them and made my headaches so much better. You can buy it in big Boots and if you want I can look at proper name?

daisydora · 20/08/2009 19:26

Just a quickie,

Had DS back to the Dr's this morning after another night of constant coughing and much ear tugging. Dr (a different one) says his chest & ears are fine and that he must have had Swine Flu and should have been given Tamiflu last week I did tell him that i wouldn't have give it to DS anyway and that out of 4 Dr's we have seen he was the only one he thought it wsa SF. he then ranted at me for about 5 mins on the symptoms of SF....I glazed over but do despair of some Dr's. Anyway, at least DS chest infection has cleared. He must just be a bit grumpy and weak after his illness.

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 19:40

Kiwi you can get something similar to what you are talking about in a roll on style stick thing called 4head, it's brilliant stuff.

Daisy it may well be SF but one the tamiflu needs to be given in 48 hrs to help, it doesn't cure the virus it just helps manage the symptoms and reduces the chances of adverse stuff, (so clearly as your DS is still alive I think he's done that himself) and I just read in the latest 'nursing times' that it's not particularly effective on children. If you'd like I can have a crazy grumpy lady rant at your GP, but it would have to be over the phone.

daisydora · 20/08/2009 19:44

Thanks veggie, if I'd known that before I went in I would have ranted at him myself! Him and the rest of the Dr's he has seen.

Kayzr · 20/08/2009 19:48

Not sure if it is true but a friend said that if a baby under 12 months has SF they have to go into hospital.

daisydora · 20/08/2009 19:52

Thing is although he has had a 'chest infection' for nearly 3 weeks he was only actually ill with it over the weekend. Plus the Dr that said he had tonsilitus and ear infection actually looked at his ear and throat. All the others just listened to his chest. I am not convinced it was SF at all. But either way the little man appears to be through the worst.

KiwiPanda · 20/08/2009 19:55

Poor little chap daisydora! Maybe some time in a really steamy bathroom would help clear that remaining gunk from his chest? Or a pot of hot water with olbas oil in the room/under his cot?

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 20:03

I think it's been mentioned here before but theres an old wives tale that suggests rubbing vicks (baby vicks in this case) on the soles of their feet before bed then put zone socks on and it helps clear up their chest to help sleep. With the SF the symptoms they are looking out for are pretty much the symptoms of any virus, that GP just sounds like a pratt, he shouldn't be justifying his diagnosis to you he should be appologising for his collegues neglect and having a go at them.

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 20:13

Oh and speaking of SF my mental SIL is still refusing to come up to visit us for DS1's birthday party for fear of her DS2 catching SF (for the uninitiated she lives in west London where it's rife, we live in Derby where a SF hospitalization still gets in the papers). However she is sending her DH with their DS1, but as her DH is flying to Mumbai on Monday for work she is letting him come up for just Friday and Saturday, the party is Sunday. I'm not surprised she is not coming as she never visited when we lived in east London and wouldn't come to his last birthday in London because it looked like it might rain that day. But I don't understand why she is sending her husband and son when they won't even be here for the actual party, mental!!! But it's actually fine as one of DS1's London friends and his family are coming so we will have the house free for them on Saturday night. still it has not been lost on DH that this will be the 5th time these friends have visited since we moved here yet his sister still has not come.

OP posts:
daisydora · 20/08/2009 20:37

Veggie your SIL sounds like a complete nutter! Still I'm sure DS1 will have a fab party. DD went to sleep tonight getting very excited about making cakes tomorrow. I just hope she keeps her sticky paws out of the mix otherwise I'll have to give them out with a health warning on Saturday

Kayzr · 20/08/2009 21:52

Argh!!! DS1 threw my mobile in the sink earlier. I've been drying it out and it is ruined. The screen keeps flashing and won't work. I am going to ring 3 tomorrow and hope they will fix it as I have only had it a few months. I am really annoyed as I love my phone.

Veggiemummy · 20/08/2009 22:56

Is that the iPhone you bought Kayz.

Spits & mitts cake Dais mmmm. When is DD's party, is it Saturday, I'm thinking of making DS1's cake tomorrow as his cousin will be here and we could all make it together. Do you think that is too early will it be stale?
