That lady in a wool shop made them for me - they were £14 including the wool. So was very pleased with that. To buy online from hand dyed very very best wool I think they are more.

Hope they are ok in morning, am fretting about them in the lanolin. Hope they don't shrink.

Night all! Big sleeps all round I hope.

SparkleandShine · 16/07/2009 07:25

Morning

Ds has done his usual spectacular recovery. He was so poorly last night, temp touching 40 and delirious. Needed calpol, iced water to drink and then calprofen to bring his temp down to 38.5.

I was so worried, checked him regularly until the wee hours then decided I was disturbing him and he would be better to sleep.

His brother got up and came in to me this morning and said ds1 was still asleep. I was feeding dd and panicked that he might be in a coma or something . Dh went in and he was sleeping really deeply but didn't feel hot. He is usually first up in our house so it seemed really odd leaving him in bed this morning.

He slept until 9.30 when I went in to check again. I was just taking his temp under his arm and he sat up and started chatting away normally. His temp is back to normal and whilst he is weak and wobbly on his pins, he is not coughing or snotty and doesn't have a headache anymore.

He is amazing, small for his age, skinny little thing and yet he always seems to shake off nasty illnesses almost overnight. It is very rare for him to get a high temperature, I can't remember the last time. Whereas ds2 gets raging temperatures and febrile convulsions with a cold. Ds1 has had two doses of the Tamiflu now as well (drank it in apple juice this morning - went down much better).

I on the other hand have a headache, earache, sore eyes and throat, glands up in neck and groin and wobbly legs - no temp as yet though.

Must go, he is requesting porridge for breakfast.

moosemama · 16/07/2009 10:30

Both my boys napped for two hours every afternoon until they started school. Right up until he started fullt time himself I used to have to carry ds2 downstairs to the pushchair and put him in asleep to go and fetch ds1.

Don't think dd is going to be the same though, she is really fighting naps at the moment, I have to stick her in the swing on number 5, and let her wail for a couple of minutes then she really conks out. Think I will reread the appropriate section of Wonder Weeks today, as I vaguely remember its normal at 26 weeks.

stripeywoollenhat · 16/07/2009 11:41

moose, glad to hear ds a bit better this morning. sorry you aren't feeling so hot. did you get tamiflu as well?

c very cranky this morning. wondering if the second tooth is going to pt in an appearance soon - am hoping for a bit of a break before the next wave...

rrrayray · 16/07/2009 13:14

Hello all.

you have been talking far too much for me to try and catch up with anything but this page.

So i'll just wave to you all.

tink sounds like you are following gina Ford to the Tee.... I read her books when i was pregnant, have taken a few ideas here and there from them. Is it working for you? there was an article on Gina ford in the Times the other day. Didn't realise being a First time mum that she'd Sued Mumsnet!!!!!

moose Poor Ds, Glad he is feeling better this morning. By the mention of TamiFlu, was it suspected Swine Flu? I hope you don't all start feeling under the weather! sprinkles magic get well soon dust

Stripey Sorry to hear of potential teething!!!! Esme hasn't produced any teeth to date!!!

Right, off to nibble on some lunch. Will try and keep up with the thread!!!!

moosemama · 16/07/2009 13:45

Stripey, I wasn't feeling so poorly yesterday and you can't take Tamiflu if you are breastfeeding anyway. If you are desperately ill they can prescribe Relenza, if not, you just have to suffer.

Thanks for the magic dust Ray. No teeth here either yet, but lots and lots and lots of dribble - yuk! I used elements of Gina Ford's methods when I had ds1, not for weaning, but for feed times, naps, settling etc. It worked really well for him and he was a very easy baby. We didn't do the whole routine, as we like to be a bit more spontaneous. Like you said, we just selected the bits that suited our lifestyle and worked them into our own routine.

Poor dd missed out on her first ever solids with all the commotion about ds1 yesterday. We are hopefully going to try again this evening. (baked sweet potato wedges and steamed broccoli)

She was really, really cranky this morning so decided to give her a feed then bath, followed by massage and nekked baby time as that usually cheers her up. (To be honest, I was starting to get a bit worried that she might be getting poorly.) It worked, thank goodness, she really perked up after a good splash about and was delightful and giggly when Mum just popped round with extra supplies of calpol and vitamins. She is now asleep in her swing - long may it last.

DH called to say there are five people out of his office with swine flu now and one guy came back today after 5 days off sick with it. Apparently his main symptoms were bad diarrhea and a headache and high temperature but his gp diagnosed swine flu and gave him the anti virals. I'm not sure that they've actually got it myself, sounds more like some sort of stomach bug to me, but hey whadda I know?!

Our friends' little girl (age 5) has also been diagnosed (they live a loooong way away from us) and they can't get her to take the tamiflu pills. They've tried it in every food and drink they can think of and she just won't have it. Nowhere seems to be able to get hold of the liquid suspension, so kids are having to take the pills. They are tiny, but taste foul.

hi

rray - ye have found gf routines great followed them with dd1 and seem to be working with dd2 to

my friends daughter had a temp of 39.5 last night got prescribed tamiflu and wouldnt take it today seems abit better but feverish and sleepy

dog - wow

LenniEd · 16/07/2009 17:20

Yes - they will probably be too small Dog - and certainly won't get enough use to justfiy buying iyswim. Miserable here too.

Night away is tomorrow am panicking already. I just hope he settles (little if) and I cope with expressing (big if) and he takes back to bf when I get back on Saturday (total unknown). Am scared, and worried and feel like I am going to fret the whole time. If only I didn't have to go.

Sorry to miss everything and moan - am finishing uni work and DH pulling out all the stops to look after the kids for me so best not get comfy waste time on MN. Catch up on Sunday. Hope the SF has moved on by then.

stripeywoollenhat · 16/07/2009 17:29

dog - too small, i'd say - c is 15.5lbs (roughly) and is in medium now, grew out of the small ones a month ago so i think at about 14lbs. they got way too tight around her thighs.

elkiedee · 16/07/2009 17:44

Moose, sorry to read that your ds is ill but glad he seems to be getting better, it must all be quite scary. I hope you start feeling a bit better quickly. Glad you have a bf sympathetic GP. The NCT has put up some advice on their website which includes breastfeeding immunities. Might be worth a read if you have to deal with your HV or less sympathetic HCPs again.

Dog, I don't see that you have to start dead on 26 weeks. I'm waiting until then and doing BLW anyway, though I suspect when we're having meals with other relatives they'll want to get in on the act. The emphasis is on milk being still their main diet and food being fun/experimental.

tinkisback · 16/07/2009 18:17

shall i start blw

bracken is a slow weight gainer
have been giving her purees since 4mtnths?
assume she will eat less with blw

PatTheHammer · 16/07/2009 19:23

TINK Yes, DO IT! You will have so much fun and it will seem really easy because you can basically give her what you give DD1. Carry on giving puree alongside if you are worried about weight. She has teeth right? This should help and if she can sit unaided also good. I assumed Zach wouldn't eat much to start with, but boy has he proved me wrong.

moose Glad Ds feeling better, hope you feel beter soon and the rest of the herd don't suffer. Hope the wedges and broc went down well tonight!

Lenni Sure it will be fine and just think of the .......sleep

dog weather shocking here too. Sorry you had rough night with Isla, must be a shock to the system as she ws such an angel with sleep. Can't believe that Beth is that gorgeous honey colour naturally, she lokks like she has been having spray-tans! I'm sooooooo jealous of your daughter!
Wean when YOU feel she is ready, 26 weeks or 36 weeks....doesn't matter if she is not ready!

ray hope you are enjoying sunny sussex. Zach has 4 teeth soon to be 6 by the looks of it!

tree ROFL at huge hand....those leggy things look devine.

Had a lovely day today. Went round my friends this morning and DD had a good play with her boy-friend . Then met the lovely MissJackson and the gorgeous Nye this afternoon. Zach enjoyed giving Nye a crash course in BLW involving Lemon Cake . DD was overjoyed because the disney store now stocks Handy Manny toys and I got some new shoes for £10 in New Look........fab afternoons work!
Both forgot cameras though so no photos of the lovely, squishy boys together. next time!

stripeywoollenhat · 16/07/2009 19:25

elkie - that nct page is useful, and any plans i had to gradually stop breastfeeding are now definitely shelved. thanks for pointing it out.

tink - blw is messy but good fun and i guess can't do any harm to give it a go as well. i think it hasn't resulted in much actual eating yet here, so if you are worried about weight gain maybe do it as well as purees?

lenni - hope you get college stuff all done

EachPeachPearMum · 16/07/2009 19:33

moose glad ds is feeling better...

DH is feeling rotten tonight

tink dd never ate much until she was 9 or 10 months... she will get there.... agree puree and blw is a good idea.

missjackson · 16/07/2009 19:35

Pat We had a lovely day too! Both the little monsters were so chilled out and well behaved and your DD was lovely. Nye slept all the way home - must have been all the excitement!

tink You could always combine BLW with purees - I don't think they are mutually exclusive - but BLW looks like a lot more fun! We can't wait to get started, especially after seeing Zach today - he was loving it!

LenniEd Can imagine your mixed feelings at thought of night out. From the sounds of your DS, I am pretty certain he will have no problems getting back on the boob when you turn up again on Sunday so I really wouldn't worry. No baby is going to reject a warm snuggly booby in favour of a bottle for long... I hope you have a really wonderful time.

dog Nye is in large ittis, although perhaps they are still a little bit big for him - so Isla would def be too small for smalls. The cheapest place is babybots but I got mine at twinkle because they had everything in stock and they despatched the next day and I just couldn't wait- my Tiger print got despatched today so should arrive tomorrow, so I will let you know what it's like! Def get some spare booster sets too, because I find often the nappy itself isn't wet, so you can just use another booster instead of changing the whole thing - yey!

MM glad that DS is over the swine flu already. 55,000 new cases apparently! You are probably best getting it earlier rather than later, as I think viruses get stronger as they move through the population... but I might be making that up. My Mum went shopping today for tins of food, cat food and dog food, in case she and her OH go down with the flu! I thought that was a little over-reactionary...

missjackson · 16/07/2009 19:39

Didn't meant to press send already, was just checking links...

tree my friend swears by those wool leggings too - I don't think I am quite ready for that yet though, maybe next baby... for now, my fluffy cute ittis will keep me happy.

Can't remember what else I was going to type. Should unload my shopping anyway and tidy up and that kind of thing.

Nye still has a cough but no runny nose and seems much better - do you think I can still take him to waterbabies tomorrow?

Waves to everyone!
