I think the only downside of meeting up is that we all try to be anonymous on here and then obviously we would know each other's real names etc...

OTOH, we basically have an antenatal group running here and it's not really any different from the ones in irl. I guess if we each respect everyone else's need for privacy on here then it wouldn't be a problem. It would be very nice to meet you all! We seem to be in rough geographical groups anyway.

Thanks to everyone for your messages of support. Looks like I must have been having a down day when I last posted..Yesterday was better, I was amazed at watching dd as she is now more aware of her surroundings and it was a joy to listen to her cooing on her playmat & trying to kick the toys ! We also went shopping which sometimes helps take my mid of "issues"..She is currently in our room "shouting" to me, can't stay for to long as if I ignore her it turns into crying !!
Fisil, I will google the test now to try it on line if I can. My hv called yesterday to arrange the test on Mon, will let you all know how I get on.
Once again thanks, I appreciate it.

LittleB · 15/07/2005 15:23

Shhh, hope everything goes well for you, and Brighteyes i hope things imporove for you soon. Megan has just had her first jabs, and she screamed when she had them, but then fell asleep and seems fine now, did bleed on her dress though, poor thing (I gave her calpol just before). Don't like HV much either, she said shouldn't she be on her 2nd by now - well this was the one we were asked to and she's only 9wks + 1, she also accused megan of breath holding when we had a scary choking incident, doctor said she was choking on saliva (had a bit of a cold) but she would have been fine if we weren't there and has been fine since - just felt insulted that she though she would be silly enough to hold her breath! although I know babies do this sometimes!
had a lovely few days away, although it was a bit too hot at times - which was surprising for devon! and megan was harder to settle at night, but is better now we've come back going from 8/9 to about 4 then through to 8, thnk its the first time i've had over 5 hours solid sleep since christmas!
I'm happy to meet up sometime too.
take care

shhhh · 15/07/2005 16:31

Little b can't believe how your hv is being! It's probably the stress of the injections thats making her be like that, you'd have thought they would have supported you especially as I know it's stressful enough for the mum ! Well it is in my case!
It looks like Megan & our dd Freya are in the same sleep routine. She sleeps exactly the same as you described. Infact we haven't tried to get her into a routine...I bath her at about 5/6 and dh gives her a bottle when he gets in from work at about 6/7 and she goes to bed usually when she is starting to get dozey which is usually anytime between 7-9. She is usually done then for the night. Our hv commented on how well i'm doing given the fact that I haven't really tried to get into a routine..in fact I didn't know where to begin! I have just followed dd and listened to her demands.
I must admit though...after nearly a year of broken sleep it is nice to at least have unbroken sleep if only for 5-7 hours .
Glad your hol's were lovely..we are thinking of taking dd abroard in nov when she will be 6mth...Possibly to Dubai...Advice is welcome from anyone as to how to cope while abroard...
Hope everyone is well?

Preggars · 15/07/2005 18:43

Well, I've now stopped breast feeding , as on Thursday when I tried to give DD a bottle of expressed milk, she wasn't having any of it - so as I suspected, my kids are dead fussy. I cannot put this pressure on my DH as he needs her to accept a bottle once a week (as I am doing a course, which will enable me to become self-employed, and be around kids more), so the long and short, I felt horrible stopping and cried, but after half a day, she has finally accepted a bottle, and a day later (as in now)she is woofing her milk (7 oz last feed!). Now that she is once again happy, I feel good about it all, and am chuffed I managed 8 weeks, but I felt like a shit yesterday. How's everyone doing.. those that are bottle feeding, how much milk do your little ones take.. as I am new to this malarky (hands already getting dry and sore from additional soking and sterilising all the equipment!!).

Missblossom · 15/07/2005 20:00

Hi preggers,

Luca has 5 7oz feeds a day as he has now dropped the night time feed and sleeps right through

LittleB · 16/07/2005 10:19

shhh, i didn't try and get megan into a routine either, we just followed her too - seems to work ok though . preggers, megan has 6 5oz bottles per day but doesn't finish all of them, has 3-5 oz each time. think it depends on weight, she's about 10lb and if they are going through a growth spurt it will increase, somtimes megan has little and often especially in the afternoon when its hot, but i just try ang give her what she wants, although she only has water if its less than 3 hours between feeds. hope this helps.

ABow · 16/07/2005 21:12

OMG Have just watched Monty Pythons The Meaning of Life on DVD and the sketch about The Miracle of Birth is so spookily like my birth experience I left the room in a cold sweat! Stirrups, machines, loads of people watching. Shudder

shhhh · 16/07/2005 23:02

Preggers, I know how you feel about stopping bf....I'm still doing both but at the moment I am only managing 2 bf a day mainly due to time and also due to lack of milk...
The bf are about 9am and 5pm and I try and express during the day and at night but this isn't always the case...I dread though the day when this stops as I so love these bf's..Makes me feel close to her and in fact I hate the thought of anyone else other than dh giving her a bottle. Don't ask why.?
Anyway on top of the 2 bf dd is having x4 6oz bottle of formula a day. Sometimes this is 5oz OR 7oz. I do give water inbetween feeds but not often and only if it's v hot and she wants it.BTW dd is now 11lb 8oz.
Usually according to my hv the amount of formula per feed you should give is half the baby's weight..ie 7lb baby should have a 4oz bottle (coz you can't do half oz bottles),10lb baby should have 5oz bottle but these are only guidelines and I believe if baby wants more or less then do so...as long as they are putting on weight whats the issue??! HTH and welldone! You seem to be doing well.

18mumtobe · 17/07/2005 12:39

hi everyone

sorry to hear about those of you that are feeling down, hope things get sorted for you and you all start to feel better soon.

matthew is still doing well, he was 9lb 7oz at last hv visit so is putting on weight ok. he has 5, 5oz bottles a day now. he has started to only go 3 hrs between feeds now but i think thats due to the heat and he won't take to water although i try him with it all the time. although he is only going about 3 hrs inbetween he is still only having 5 bottles a day, he has his last bottle at about 8pm and then sleeps through till 5ish which is really good for me and dp.

dp has had two weeks holiday from work so has been getting up at 5 each morning which has been a great help and a good break for me. im dreading when he goes back and its all down to me again.

i can't remember if i told you all on my birth announcement but me and dp got engaged straight after matthew was born, it was a total surprise and it was so romantic having my new baby in my arms and dp getting down on one knee. i said yes as you've probley worked out but we haven't set a date yet. (need to wait till we can afford it lol)

take care everyone and hope all babies are well.

LittleB · 17/07/2005 22:07

Congratulations 18mumtobe , thats great news, you must be so excited, it sounds like Matthew is doing really well too.
Megan has had a bit of a grumpy and sleepy weekend, but I think thats down to her injections, one of them bled and has left quite a nasty bruise, I'm not looking forward to her having her others.
Megan has some water, but only a couple of oz each day, we were told its fine if they don't have any though, but she seems to enjoy hers. Shhh tahts a useful tip from your hv about weight and oz's, sounds like our babies are about right so far.
Must go and make some more milk up!

18mumtobe · 18/07/2005 14:21

thanx littleB

sorry to hear magan had a hard time with her injections, im not looking forward to matthews at all, i don't like them myself so im def gonna have to take dp with me, coz i know ill end up crying, coz i hate seeing him in pain.
hope her next ones aren't as bad for you and her.

matthewsmummy · 18/07/2005 14:24

matthewsmummy · 18/07/2005 14:26

logic · 18/07/2005 21:36

Took dd to the osteopath today and she has terrible colic apparently. In a way, it's a relief to know that there really is something wrong and that I'm not imagining it. She also has some birth trauma to some of the nerves in the back of her head. Now that she has started treatment, she should start to improve. We also have approval on our healthcare insurance policy to see a private consultant about her birthmark so there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hope everyone else is well.

Brighteyes · 19/07/2005 10:53

Logic glad to hear things are on the up. Please let me know how you get on with the oestopath regarding the colic. At the moment I'm using colief which seems to be working and dd is finally going to bed before 11pm. We've managed to get her into a routine of 9pm which is still rather late but a definate improvement.

matthewsmummy · 19/07/2005 15:39

glad you've got some good news logic, and i hope the colic starts to improve now you've got some advice to go on.

uwila · 19/07/2005 20:41

Hi everyone,
Remember me? I haven't been on in so long you've probably forgotten me. SORRY!

I'm still sort of breast feeding, so I relate to you Shhh. It's always been a mix due to lack of supply. I'm stuggling along with the assistance of domperidone. But as I'm due back at work in a few weeks anyway, I was thinking of giving itup completely when I return to work or maybe a couple of weeks before.

I'm doing okay with the two kids. But the thing that totally does my head in is when the toddler acts like a baby. Like, when DS cries, she decides to chime in. I can tolerate it from DS because I expect an 8 week old baby to communicate in this fashion. But, when the 2 1/2 year old decides to cry when she's perfectly capable of speaking... well... GRRRR!

Is it too soon to look forward to going back to work? (just kidding)

Also, we are talking about a post natal meet up for the June thread (here ). I wondered if some of the May mums might like to come too. I think it will be in Reading and maybe on Sept. 3.

logic · 19/07/2005 21:36

I can make it to the Reading meet-up. It would be nice to see some of you lot there too!

northstar · 20/07/2005 10:41

Have just spent half an hour reading this thread and catching up with everyone, actually have tears in my eyes. I didnt realise how much i missed this. Sorry to read about all the problems, but glad to be sharing them iykwim? And all the lovely may babies are now hopefully thriving. Shannon is an angel, she has completely fitted in to our family and brought us all so close together that sometimes I wonder how we were ever without her. We are completely on formula now, and it is so much easier. I exclusively bf ds, but it just wasnt going to happen this time.
We are getting loads of sleep, and just drifting through the summer. We live 2minutes walk from the beach and have spent lots of time there recently.
Biggest problem these days is horrendous cradle-cap. Havent come across a mention of it on our thread so will now go and search for a miracle. Lovely to be back, and would definately be up for a Reading meet-up, my mum lives in slough so I would fly over and stay with her. Any excuse to show off!

booge · 20/07/2005 14:34

Hi Logic,
Daniel has two hemangiomas, one on his knee and a new one developing above his eye. Please keep us posted on any treatment as I will be very interested to see what they do. How big is your dds? Daniels is tiny at the moment but I know it will grow.

logic · 20/07/2005 14:38

It would be lovely to see you at the meet Northstar!

Booge, dd's birthmark is small really, it's a triangular shape about 1 cm in length I think but the GP said that it will get much bigger. I'll keep you informed about her consultation. Have you asked for a referral about it?

Brighteyes · 20/07/2005 16:39

Northstar trying rubbing olive oil into the cradle cap before bed then washing it out in the morning. I did this for three days and the cradle cap is almost gone.

uwila · 20/07/2005 23:58

Northstar,
That's great if you can make the meet. It's looking more and more like 03 Sept. How much advance warning do you need?

It would be really nice if more people could come too (hint hint)
